  1. A monkey would definitely be an improvement but I would go with either Bobby Valentine, Frank Kremblas, or Davey Johnson.
  2. I cant believe they are letting this clown still manage this team. I am really starting to lose faith in Melvin.
  3. Here is another thing I notice with this team every night: poor fundamentals in every way. I have the MLB extra innings package so I get to watch a lot of baseball. Lately I have been watching the Cardinals play. Let me tell you this team does everything right. They play good defense they run the bases well and they hit to all fields. This is a team that just gets it. You can watch a team like this and just see that they know how to play the game right. When watching the Brewers it looks like the team has not been taught how to play. They run the bases terribly, they are always swinging for the fences and they basically refuse to hit the ball the other way or take walks. If this team had a guy like Larussa managing and Duncan as pitching coach we would be the ones in first place because we defintely have better talent than St Louis. Yost needs to be fired now because these players are just not improving in any way.
  4. Maybe we all just had higher expectations than what this team really is. If you look objectivity at this team you will see many weaknesses. Without Gallardo we have one ace starter and 4 avg to below average guys. We havent had a quality start from anyone not named Sheets or Gallardo in weeks. Add to that the fact that these guys are constantly pitching 5 innings or less and you can see that the bullpen will be toast by June or July. Doug Melvin has not shown any ability whasoever to put together a quality pitching staff. He needs to start taking some heat for this teams awful pitching staff.
  5. Is that what its coming to where we point to what we can get for middle relievers if we drop out of the race. Thats very sad.
  6. What are the alternatives to signing Sheets long term? Sign another Suppan type like Derek Lowe for 13 mil plus per year or go into next season with a rotation of Yo, Suppan, Villy, Parra, and Bush. Im sorry but neither of these alternatives sound very good to me. Sometimes you just have to take a chance and Ben Sheets is the type of guy worth taking a chance on. I would rather pay big money on greatness (Sheets) versus paying for mediocrity like Suppan and Gagne. The best chance this team has of winning in the future is with a 1-2 punch of Ben and Yo which could equal any 1-2 punch in the league.
  7. Brewer Fever hit the nail on the head. This team is completely undisciplined and has not improved in this area at all. How many times are we going to watch the Brewers score early and absolutely shut down there offense for the remaining 5 plus innings. Nothing has changed with this team and nothing will until Yost gets fired.
  8. Why do I get the feeling that this thread is going to be longer than last years. Somehow someway this team finds ways to lose. Time to cut the chord with Yost and Sveum and start over.
  9. He might have some value if Ned actually listened because its obvious that nothing has changed with Ned.
  10. I would find it a little disturbing if the Brewers took a kid with injury concerns that high in the draft. I would be more willing to take risks with a supplemental or second round pick than the 16th pick. With that said where would this guy have been projected to go if he were injury free this season.
  11. Bottom line is this regarding pee wee gwynn; if his name was Smith and not Gwynn we wouldnt be having this conversation because he would be in the minors and either Branyan or Nelson would be a bench option. Its time we trade gwynn before the rest of baseball relaizes he isnt capable of hitting the ball out of the infield. Melvin needs to look in the mirror and make some changes because its obvious that the clueless one cant handle a bench correctly.
  12. TLB, I am one of Melvins biggest fans and overall really like what he has done, most notably having the foresight to keep Jack Z on board but he does have his weaknesses. He has never shown the ability to put together a strong pitching staff and letting Sheets leave as a FA is not going to help that cause.
  13. If this team goes into next season with a rotation of Gallardo, Suppan, Villy, Parra, and Bush they are basically giving themselves no shot of being a playoff team. You cant win with a number 1 and 4 4th and 5th starters in your rotation. We need to resign Sheets because we have absolutely no viable way of replacing him unless we want to overpay with a Suppan type FA. Melvin has always been good about putting together an everyday lineup back to his Texas days but he has never put together a top flight rotation. I still remember his Texas teams starting John Burkett in game one of the playoffs. Somebody needs to tell this guy that pitching wins championships and guys like Ben Sheets dont grow on trees. Yes resigning Sheets is risky but the alternatives are far far riskier in my opinion.
  14. The sky basically has fallen in regards to the Brewers playoff chances this season. I will continue to watch since I love the team but this is a crushing blow no doubt.
  15. May as well trade Sheets now and prepare for 2009. Hopefully that will be our year with a new manager and a healthy Yo leading our staff. This completely sucks.
  16. This is a crushing blow that cannot be overcome. Seriously this season is finished. We have one top flight starter in Sheets who will probably not stay healthy all year and 4 avg to below avg starters. Does anyone have total confidence in any starting pitchers not named Sheets? I felt very confident every time Gallardo pitched that the Brewers would win the game and the guy was a pure joy to watch. Hopefully we will have better luck in 2009 because 2008 is as good as over. Good luck in your recovery Yo, we all look forward to seeing you next season.
  17. Keith Law mentions in his blog today that the Brewers have shown a lot of interest in this guy. "Teammate Adrian Nieto didn't get a chance to show off his arm in the game, but his BP session was impressive. A switch-hitter, Nieto looks more comfortable from his natural (left) side, and doesn't let the ball travel enough when hitting from the right side. As a left-handed hitter, he has a funky stance, starting with a wide base and his back knee already slightly collapsed, but he gets the bat to the ball quickly and projects to have plus raw power down the road. Some teams still are concerned about an elbow problem that bothered him during his junior year. That will probably keep him out of the first round, but he's a candidate to go in the sandwich round, with the Brewers showing a lot of interest."
  18. For those that thought Yost might learn a lesson and not pitch Gagne 4 days in a row how do you feel now knowing that he was gonna use Gagne for a 5th straight day if the Brewers had scored to take the lead in the eighth. Face it a dope like Yost will never learn.
  19. Only Yost can go from pitching a guy in mop up spots only to pitching him in the 9th inning of a tie game whithout that pitcher having shown any ability whatsoever to get guys out.
  20. Turnbow is just not a major league pitcher at this point and if this team is serious about winning they will just release him already. Enough is enough.
  21. I think Yost is brilliant for having gagne warming up again tonight. Then to make matters worse he brings in Turnbow who has not pitched a meaningful inning all season and who looks completely lost into a tie game when he has a rested Riske ready to go. This manager just seems to get dumber by the day. We look like a below average team offensively and that is flat out sad. How many guys can one lineup have that are hitting below 200. This season which I expected to be full of promise is looking more and more like another disappointment. Really why should I even vent at this point, I am so used to losing that it shouldnt be so painful.
  22. I think this deal buys out 3 years of free agency. It is potentially a 9 yr deal. I would definitely give Braun this same exact deal.
  23. I heard the deal is 6 yrs 17 mil with the potential of 9 yrs 44 mil. If he turns out as good as expected the Rays will have a steal. I would definitely give Braun a deal like that.
  24. Can the guy at least prove himself a little bit. Geez this is ridiculous and incredibly stupid if they didnt buy out 2 years minimum of freeagency.
