  1. Really there arent many worse managers out there. Its gonna be scary if we start off slow next year and Melvin hands the team over to Sveum.
  2. So basically Melvin admitted that Yost is clueless on bullpen management yet is willing to assume that he will improve on that and other in game strategies after 5 clueless years. I used to think Melvin was amongst the top GMs in the game but I am left with less and less confidence by the day.
  3. DJ43, you completely hit the nail on the head. Yost may be fine for a rebuilding team where savvy (ingame decision making) isnt very important. The kids can make mistakes and so can he because there is little accountability on a day to day basis with a rebuilding team. Unfortunately when such a manager has a capable team looking to make the playoffs in game decision making can make the difference between playoffs and just missing out. Yosts in game decisions regarding bullpen and ridiculous lineup maneuvers easily cost us more than 2 games. There are no guarantees that this team wont be in the same position next year and Melvin is risking this teams immediate future if he keeps Ned around. Doug we all know that you like Ned but if you keep him you are likely risking your own job security in the process.
  4. Give me a break. No manager starts a season with a goal of breaking attendance records. This is just Ned's way of saying to the owner "look we had record attendance and I was a part of that" and you should keep me around. This guy is such a clown that its absolutely ridiculous that he might actually keep his job. Besides with all his comments about the fans he should prefer an empty ballpark with nobody watching the games so he isnt second guessed.
  5. The Brewers poor defense is largely a result of the organizations philosophy under Melvin. We always draft the big bat and completely ignore defense altogether. We did this in regards to Fielder, Braun, Weeks and especially LaPorta. The organization philosophy is draft the best bat available and worry about defense later. With regards to LaPorta it seems like we were the only organization that feels that he can play even an adequate left field. All we can do is hope our guys improve defensively because their bats are exceptional. I just hope that Braun, Weeks, and Fielder can eventually become average defensively though that seems unlikely.
  6. How exactly does Haudricourt write this article detailing all of the Brewers failings yet lets Yost escape any criticism whatsoever. Its unbelievable how Yost goes unscathed by the Milwaukee media.
  7. This whole idea of the Brewers having to get off to a good start in order for Yost to keep his job makes no sense at all. First of all its the second half of the year that is Yost's undoing not the first. Secondly I completely agree with FTJ about the whole interim thing. The last thing this team needs is to get off to a slow start and have Sveum as an interim manager. If Melvin is smart he wont take the chance that Ned finally learns how to manage a team since he has had 5 years to improve and hasnt done so. Now is the time where it is easy to find great managerial candidates while if you wait till next year you are stuck with an interim guy like Sveum. This "short lease" idea makes absolutely no sense. Come on Doug do the right thing and hire Kremblas to replace Ned.
  8. As far as I am concerned Turnbow should be traded. He will never be reliable and his salary is definitely moveable. If we can get something useful for him I would very happily accomodate his wishes. I would love to send him to somewhere like Boston or Philadelphia where Im sure he will never get booed when he cant throw a pitch anywhere near the plate.
  9. Hopefully we hear of a press conference tomorrow morning to announce that Ned has been fired. That would be the ultimate silver lining to a disappointing end to the season.
  10. You can phrase it any way you want but this team definitely underachieved. If Yost had a clue as to how to handle a bullpen we would easily be in the playoffs with a good chance of reaching the World Series. If Mark A and Melvin are smart they will rid the team of its biggest problem which is Yost. Nay Nay Nay!
  11. trwi, that was uncalled for. I just want to cry. Only firing Yost will make me happy.
  12. I have a fear that Ned's replacement is going to be Willie Randolph. I believe that Melvin might have played with Randolph in the Yankees organization (although im not certain of this) and Mark A grew up a Yankees fan and probably liked Randolph as a player. This would be another disaster in the making as Randolph has been part of a humongous collapse and he cant handle a bullpen either. The next manager needs to be either Frank Kremblas or Bobby Valentine. My vote is for Kremblas.
  13. There is absolutely no way to sugarcoat this situation. Yost has had 5 years to show that he is the right man for the job. Yet managing a team with a boatload of talent he cant get them to win the weakest division in baseball. This division was practically handed to us and we completely choked it away. The excuse "its a young team" doesnt fly whatsoever since it was the young players who completely carried the team down the stretch. Yost has continued to make the same mistakes game after game year after year. If you havent learned how to manage in 5 yrs its time to turn the page. Frank Kremblas and Bobby Valentine are two fantastic choices who I truly believe would lead this team to a playoff berth next season. If Melvin cant see that Ned has failed miserably he can go as well and be replaced by Jack Z. Its not like Melvin has done a good job the last year or so anyway. I believe that Melvin should return because overall he has done a good job but if he cant see that Ned is Lost he needs to go as well.
  14. If we get rid of Yost we will have accomplished something. If we dont this season is a complete and utter failure. 81-83 wins in the NL Central is like winning 75-78 in any of the other divisions. In other words we have to be considered a below average NL team. With the amount of talent on this team that in my opinion is completely unacceptable.
  15. Hey Ned its time to get Lost.
  16. Brewers Live has just been renamed Brewers Dead.
  17. sheethead, we can only hope. Maybe tonight Aquino can pitch in a high leverage situation. He cant be any worse than Spurling. I really hope that the Ned Lost era ends this weekend.
  18. Well I just wondered what some national writers thought on the Yost situation so I submitted this question on an espn.com chat JB NYC: Please tell me that Ned Yost will be fired at the end of the season Jerry Crasnick: (12:10 PM ET ) JB, Sorry, no can do. GM Doug Melvin has been unwavering in his support of Yost, and owner Mark Attanasio gave Ned his second vote of confidence this week. Plus, Yost is under contract one more year. It looks as if he'll be staying for 2008.
  19. Thats a great excuse for the team falling apart.
  20. brouhard, last time I checked this was the venting thread. I have vented on more things than just Ned Lost though. I put a lot of blame on Doug Melvin for this mess of a bullpen and think he has done a terrible job since last offseason. I also think even less of this Linebrink trade after watching Thatcher pitch against us. Yes there are many places to place blame but Ned Lost needs to lose his job.
  21. I find it funny how Yost and dopes like Haudricourt are constantly bringing up fan and internet criticism of his managing style as meaning nothing all while ignoring the fact that Yost has also been trashed by the national media time and time again. Yost acts like only the "manager wannabee" fans see issue with his managing when in fact it is the entire baseball community that knows the man is clueless. Please Mark A and Doug Melvin wake up and smell the coffee; its time to move forward and this team cant do that with Ned Lost as manager.
  22. With this choke job down the stretch I dont see any way that Attanasio and Melvin can justify bringing yost back next season. When you actually sit down and analyze the situation closely it is obvious that this team had a ridiculously good opportunity to win this lousy division and only ridiculously bad play in the second half has stopped that from happening. yost has shown time and time again that he is completely clueless so he really must go. Nay nay nay nay nay!
  23. So basically we have found out that Sveum is in fact just as bad as Yost or Yost was in the hall way making the decisions again tonight. Either way I cannot fathom how McClung and especially Spurling can continue to pitch with the season on the line. Spurling is basically the worst pitcher on the staff which is really saying something yet he continues to pitch important innings. A guy that we DFA'd and no other team wanted is pitching in crucial situations while our prized acquisition Linebrink sits in the bullpen waiting for the score to be completely out of hand before being used. Also nice to see Joe Thatcher pitch. Certainly looks more impressive than every pitcher in our bullpen with the possible exception of Cordero. Speaking of Cordero its a good thing we havent used him all week until tonight when he was brought in to help keep the deficit at 4 in the ninth inning. This entire coaching staff with the possible exception of Skaalen needs to be replaced on monday morning. I also hope that Melvin wakes up because he has been awful since last offseason.
  24. The bullpen is far and way the biggest weakness on this team. If we dont sign Cordero we will be losing the one reliable reliever that we have. As far as Linebrink is concerned he is way too spotty in my opinion to pay him the 6 million or so he will get as a free agent. So asuming we lose those two we will be in deep deep trouble. Turnbow is completely unreliable, Shouse was a fluke who is coming back down to earth, and guys like Spurling, Aquino, and McClung are falt out awful. As far as trading Thatcher and selling off Sarfate is concerned I would have to say that both were big mistakes by Melvin who has done a disastrous job in putting together a bullpen. This will clearly be Melvin's biggest offseason challenge as this part of the club could kill any chance of future success.
  25. Seriously besides Ned I put a lot of blame for this mess on the shoulders of Doug Melvin. I know its almost heresy to criticize Melvin but as I have pointed out several times before he has done a lousy job since last offseason. From giving mediocre pitchers huge contracts (Suppan), to keeping Mench, to trading Doug Davis for three stiffs (Estrada, Aquino, Vargas), and then giving three solid prospects including one in Thatcher that has pitched great down the stretch for Linebrink I would have to say that none of Melvin's moves have worked out very well at all. I blame him most of all for putting together a terrible bullpen that has choked away a ridiculous amount of games and keeping Yost who has done a ridiculously bad job in handling the bullpen.
