  1. Local stations are using names too? I assumed this was just a Weather channel thing. What local stations are doing this (are you in Milwaukee?)? I guess I"m not as down on this idea as others are. Why is this any more ridiculous that naming hurricanes? Also, why have local stations decided to come up with their own set of names, when they don't do that for hurricanes? I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that it's the Weather Channel doing the naming of snow storms and not a government agency, so local network news affiliates do not want to appear like they have some sort of connection with the Weather Channel. I dont know why they name hurricanes, but at least hurricanes have a set of parameters that need to be met to be called hurricanes. Any time it snows more than a few inches are we supposed to call it a name? I am in Oshkosh so I get Green Bay weather. Fox11 is calling this Winter Storm Brianna. They have been doing this for a while. It is completely stupid.
  2. Here is the ridiculous thing about naming Winter storms. When a hurricane hits, it has a name, Sandy, for example and the entire nation knows it by that name. When a snow storm hits, like the one upon us, we have the National Weather guys calling it Draco and we have the local guys calling it Brianna. Why cant they all see how pathetic it is that they are forcing these ridiculous names upon us. Just call it what it is, the Dec. 20th snow event, or whatever. This is ridiculous. Do the local and national guys even know the others are calling it something different>? So when I tell my grandkids about how I lived through this storm, will it be known as Draco or Brianna?
  3. This thread can be used for any talk on sports jerseys, but I am starting it for a specific reason. http://www.milwaukeehockey.com/brewers.html In January 2008 the Milwaukee Admirals wore a version of the 1982 Brewers powder blue jerseys. I would like to find a replica of this sold somewhere. Does anyone know if any were ever made. Pics in the link above. Thanks.
  4. Very important question for OWBC or any other weather fan. nd This is my second year of building a backyard ice rink. Due to the mild winter so far, I have not been able to lay down my liner and fill my 25x50 rink yet. Finally the temps will be right for making ice beginning Thursday night, through Sunday. Herr is my dilemma/plan. I wish to avoid having 6-12 inches of snow in my rink BEFORE I fill it/lay down my liner. It would make for a lot of shoveling and snowblowing. What I would like to do is lay the liner tomorrow (tuesday) and begin the 12 hour fill Wednesday morning. My goal would be that the water would not have time to freeze as the temps should remain near freezing Wednesday night and all of the snow that comes down will hit the water and not accumulate as snow. Then, the storm moves out and the cold weather moves in and my rink is ready to freeze. Will this or should this work?
  5. The only player they gave up that had any real value was Josh Johnson and he didnt even look like himself last year. Reyes is overpaid, but productive, Buehrle is overpaid and probably not productive. Bonifacio isnt good and Buck is one dimensional. They got back a lot of young talent. I think they will finish with a better record next year than they did this year. Does this stink for Marlins fans who went out and bought Jose Reyes jerseys? yes. Was this a terrible baseball move? Not as terrible as signing Reyes, Buehrle and Bell last off season was.
  6. How is Sonny doing? I really liked him as well, being a Sheets fan, he reminded me a lot of Ben.
  7. My favorite Brewer pitcher.
  8. Dont know where else to put this. I like to listen to the D-List on AM 540. I guess Dan Needles was arrested for Domestic Disorderly Conduct over the Labor Day weekend. Does anyone know if either WISN or ESPN Milwaukee have made an announcement about how it will affect him professionally i.e. when will he be back on the air?? Listened to the Dlist yesterday, missed the first 15 minutes, but didnt hear any mention of it.
  9. Is it the hitting coach? Encarnacion has been a consistent .780 OPS guy most of his career, and now he is OPSing .950, and almost +200 increase. Bautista was also stuck in the .750 OPS range until exploding to 1.000 OPS. First let me say this isnt meant to implicate anyone in PEDs, I am seriously wondering if Toronto is doing something with their hitters to help these guys breakthrough. They are both Dominican and sometimes those guys dont have a lot of patience at the plate or arent as selective (the 'ole you cant walk your way off the island mentality) and I am wondering if Toronto has found a way to get through to these guys to get the best results possible.
  10. Gallardo Marcum Fiers Estrada Rogers
  11. High Cholesterol maybe.
  12. I can barely see this thread the irony is so thick. A last gasp push to get Melky into the All Star Game starting outfield by Giants fan, knocking out the MVP outfielder who was wrongfully accused of doping, and it turns out the guy the Giant fans push into the game is only relevant because he was doping. Wow.
  13. Ask Prince Fielder if he's upset he didn't sign before becoming a free agent. I am not putting forth the position that NOT signing a contract extension is always a bad thing. I am refuting the position someone said earlier that foregoing the extension (at 112 million) was NOT risky at all. My position is that it is always risky, sometimes the risk pays off (Fielder) other times it doesnt. But either way, it is a risk.
  14. Ask Casey Mcgehee or John Axford if they took a risk by not signing when they had the chance. Ask Bill Hall if he would have rather gone year-to-year.
  15. I think there is a very real chance given Greinke's perceived psychological history (warranted or not) that if he gets traded into a pennant race and melts down that it WILL affect his leverage and contract in the offseason. If the Brewers really did offer him 5yrs and 112.5 million and he performs poorly in a large market down the stretch or in the post season that he would be lucky to get a contract at 20mil plus per year. Now, I think he will be just fine statistically speaking and this will be a moot issue, but it is a real possibility, therefore, it is absolutely a risk. People like to justify a player turning down 112.5 million by saying that we would do the same if there were a chance we could get 140 million. I dont think there is a human being alive that is making a living wage that would turn down 112 million for a chance at 140 million. For a pitcher to do that when one pitch could put them out for a year and torpedo a long term contract to turn down something like what was offered by the Brewers is a huge risk.
  16. I wish they would stop jerking Thornburg around.
  17. Gomez is hot right now, he should be traded in the next 24 hours as his value will never be higher.
  18. What a cop-out.
  19. Drew Olson on the DList, 540 seems to be the most level headed and sane radio guy. He isnt over the top or overly reactionary and I never get the feeling that he is taking a ridiculous position just to fan the flames. I remember back in the day Sparky on 1250 would rant about how awful Ben Sheets was and it really irked me.
  20. I would love, LOVE to see a new Power 50. Whaddya say guys?
  21. I had written Mark Rogers off years ago. I tossed him onto the heap of the Mike Jones, JM Gold types and If we can get anything out of him at the major league level it is gravy as far as I am concerned. Here is hoping/wishing that he has a major league career as successful as Homer Bailey's, who I will always compare him to.
  22. I am happy with what we got back, I think it is a nice package, but I really think TEX was dumb for not anteing up for Greinke. I would love to see Anaheim or Oakland or both pass the Rangers, and with their suddenly pathetic pitching, it is possible for Texas to lose ground and lose ground fast.
  23. I buy sports games on an every-other-year basis, which means I will probably get NHL 13 this year.
  24. For my tastes I stream AM 540 (ESPN Milwaukee) or Green and Gold Today, The D-List and Homer/Thunder Show. Man-for-man the radio hosts on 540 are more knowledgeable and less inflamatory than those guys on 1250.
  25. Gamel's days as a Brewer are done. I dont see him in the plans going forward with Corey Hart seemingly entrenched as the new 1b.
