  1. This isnt the case at all. I have given up on this season and I do not care if they play or if they do not play. I am not saying that I would not care for baseball, I would watch and follow every game, but at this point, I have no expectation for a season and I do not care if they play or dont play.
  2. 50 games is better than 0 games. However, anything less than 82 just sort of feels forced and I would defintely not be in to it as much. A 50 game season could theoretically start on August 1 and finish by September 30 I suppose. No reason to have 50 game season start on July 15 and end it earlier than normal, right? So I can only assume that a 50 game season means an August 1 start at the earliest.
  3. I didnt know about the off days and two time zone thing. If they need to cram games into a schedule, that makes sense.
  4. Regional play. What am I missing here? Once you are on a plane and headed to new location, who cares if you land in Pittsburgh or Philadelphia? St. Louis or Texas?
  5. The more games they play without fans, the more money they lose. That seems like a dubious statement. By that rationale they lose the least money by playing zero games. If it’s about money for the owners, then this should be their stance. Apparently more games on TV with a sports starved captive audience produces little to no profit. Fine. Cancel the season then. I’m sick of this.
  6. Didn’t the owners just propose an 82 game season? Now it’s 50? Who are they? My Dad? Son, you can play for 30 more minutes. No, I want to play for 60 more minutes! Nope, 30 minutes. “60!” Oh you want to argue? Now it’s 15 more minutes! Huh? Try me again and it will be 10.
  7. It's encouraging that the Players Association came back with an actual offer. With all of the tragic news in the headlines over the past few days, neither side of the baseball negotiation is likely to garner much in the way of public support. Caring about baseball seems like a luxury. The two sides will either work it out or they won't. But doing their negotiating in public seems petulant. We have more important stuff in the public consciousness right now. I feel like a lot of people have checked out of this. I think I'm there. They could never say another word about MLB this year and I've moved on. The fact that I can't go to any games really sucks a lot of it out for me. Personally, I think all the makeshift season ideas for all the leagues just make it illegitimate. If the Bucks go on and win their pick-up tournament with no fans at Disney World, it will be pretty hard for me to consider that a championship. At this point I'd be unaffected by a white flag and a commitment to make this work in March. With fans, like normal, as it should be. When something drags out this long people adjust. Probably a lot of people that have realized going for walks with their families is a better use of time than 3.5 hours with FSN every night. Just feels like it's past the point of giving people some hope - most of us have adjusted to how things are now. This is a pretty good take. I miss sports. I miss going to sporting events, the anticipation of taking my family, but I have adjusted. From time to time I remember that I miss sporting events, but as with anything, other things have taken the place of sports in my life. For one a lot more exercise. Cooking. A lot of projects around the house. I am entirely sick of the hang ups on play or not play. I dont care anymore. I want a decision one way or another sooner rather than later.
  8. Just so I know what to look out for, what exactly is the definition of “junk science”? Is it any science? Science I agree with? Science I disagree with? science by someone who is not a scientist? Science by many people who are scientists?
  9. First, I am pro player, 100%. But we are at a point now that one side or the other simply needs to say it gets done by June 1 or no season. Done by June 1, Spring training part II by June 10th and Season by July 1 or just call it off. Nobody wants a 60 game season. July-Aug-September allows for almost 100 games if you go to early October. Have playoffs in a southern state and all teams at same location so they can go well into November if needed. This pandemic is developing very, very slowly. Nothing much will change between now and June 15th for example in regards to knowing more about the pandemic. Just figure it out, or call it off. enough with the unknowns.
  10. That would be quite the troll job if true, as the GOP, who fought to end this stay at home order without offering a real alternative to control the virus is completely punting on leadership and is now saying that local officials should just figure it out on their own. https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/politics/2020/05/14/tony-evers-gop-lawmakers-meet-after-supreme-court-ruling-on-coronavirus-orders/5189390002/
  11. This is that I am saying. I’m not playing along of I am Bucks owner or GM. He doesn’t get the Supermax, the signing team doesn’t get the luxury of dumping some bad contracts on me, make him take less. It’s 100% proven in NBA you cannot win a title without a superstar, so getting a bunch of picks is a complete non starter. We don’t need more DJ Wilson’s or TJ Fords. Hopefully it never comes to this.
  12. Im still long ATHX. My portfolio is up 186% since March 1. The CEO just did an interview on Fox News today. We will see double digits soon. Bought into ATHX after you initially mentioned it in here a few weeks ago. Couldn’t be happier with the investment so far! Very promising company that could be a real player in the Covid fight. That’s awesome that you got in. Go long. If Multistem works for Stroke or ARDS is could mean life changing money. That might be 5 years away yet, but if it hits $20, it will eventually hit 50, 100 and who knows. I’m still long 18k shares at $1.49 average.
  13. There is no scenario in which Giannis leaving the Bucks leaves them in a good situation...BUT if it does indeed come to that, as crippling as it'd be for the organization, they still have an obligation to try and do what they can to build for the future. If Giannis decides to leave getting something for him is obviously better than NOT getting something for him. Refusing to trade him at that point would just be petty on their behalf. If you can get a couple 1st round picks and as you say, get rid of some bad contracts, what else should they do? Refuse so that Giannis leaves but can't go to the team he wants? You're losing him anyway and as you pointed out, either way, they're going to be bad immediately following that. That said...I'm actually pretty confident he's going to stay in Milwaukee and I understand where you're coming from. Him leaving would be absolutely brutal. And him going to Golden State with Curry and Klay in their latter years would be hard to watch. I disagree, maybe out of spite, but I disagree. If your girlfriend announced she was leaving you for another guy - and maybe for whatever reason he wasn’t as financially secure as you were, whatever, if you were upset by her leaving and he came to you and said “bro, help us out, we’d really like to move on together but if you just send us over that convertible she likes and maybe a few other things to make our lives more enjoyable that would be great, in return, I can give you a phone number to a girl I used to date back in the day” I don’t think I would go for that. If he leaves, why help his salary and their cap situation? For what, some crappy picks? No thanks.
  14. As someone that is plugged in to the UW System state schools and their issues, but I am not an employee (Im an attorney) I can tell you that from what I know (my wife is an English Professor for 15 years), I agree with most everything that SoCalBrewFan has stated. In regards to paying faculty too much. At schools like UW-eau claire, La Crosse, Oshkosh and the like I can advise that this doesnt seem to be the case. My example may be only anecdotal, but my wife certainly isnt an exception and she isnt "overpaid" considering her length of employment (15 years), her terminal degree level institution - University of Michigan was second nationally for her expertise, and her commitment to professional development - a nationally published author from a NYC publishing house. She has barely been above 50k per year for almost her entire career. Since she started, she has also lost take home pay first from Act 10, then had class load recently increased from 6 classes per year to 7 (so a 16% increase in the amount of work they want her to do - combined with the 5-7% decrease in take home pay from Act 10) and now will be furloughed a few days per month, however, there is the expectation that she will teach, publish and cover admininstrative duties all the same. Pay increases that she has had have barely kept up with cost of living. Additionally, she has taught many successful students whom upon graduation or sometime afterwards reach out to her to let her know that her classes (Creative Writing, Lit classes, etc) were some of the most important and influential classes these students had - and these students arent all English Majors. They are nurses, secondary ed students, Tv/radio/film students...and I dont think my wife is some sort of anamoly. I think these professors in these areas change peoples lives and the direction of their brains for whichever field they chose. I started my college career as a business major and it was awful and depressing to a level of wanting to drop out of school. I switched to liberal arts, political science/public admininstration and the professors I had made a huge difference in my life and catapulted me to law school and running my own law practice. I guess what I am trying to say is, these majors are hugely important. SoCalBrewFan said: "But even with all that, the bulk of the employees at a regional state university are not making anything close to six figures, and I know staff including instructors who almost qualify for food stamps. Faculty and non-instructional staff at small state institutions are working harder than ever, often for salaries that don't keep up with inflation, and that's my lens I guess. Tuition at most state schools doesn't come anywhere close to covering the costs of the degree, and I know that here at least tuition increases are never taken lightly." and this is true, the UW System is losing tons of professors to other states and in my wifes department they were looking to hire for a vacant position, had many applicants, made an offer to the best one - it was declined. Made an offer to the second best one - it was declined...made a last ditch effort the the third place guy - and it was declined. And I dont think the third place guy had other options - as it was well past the regular hiring period nationally speaking. To come full circle to COVID related changes and my initial comment. This state is simply NOT funding higher ed (or any public ed) the way it did when Wisconsin earned a reputation for great education. There has been and will continue to be fallout. This pandemic WILL be, mark my words, used by those who are not wild about public education, to cripple and or end many liberal arts programs. One last thing. It will be brought up by many, but traditional students - and they make up the bulk of 4 year higher ed students - DO NOT WANT ONLINE CLASSES. I do not care what the higher ups say. Yes it will reduce costs, however, students absolutely do not want these classes. In my opinion this is a tricky BS way to reduce costs and to quite frankly find people to "teach" these online classes at much, much lower pay (think annual pay in the 20s or 30k range). I know many high school seniors who are real go-getters and ready for college and not a single one has said they will enroll in 20-21 if it is online. And I agree with them completely.
  15. It’s been the goal of some to end higher education or at least make it far less accessible. And any class or study focus that might increase critical thinking and questioning stuff (English, history, sociology, psychology and political science) will be quickly eliminated and colleges will become glorified tech schools there simply to churn out workers who don’t think for themselves.
  16. Lots of articles floating around that Golden State, who I guess still has the God given right to just acquire whoever they want, has somehow spent like the last 10 years budgeting and making moves in order to acquire Giannis. I’m sick of hearing it. I know if he wants to leave, he leaves. I get it. However, there is NO scenario where the bucks trade him that doesn’t result in the Bucks becoming the Atlanta hawks in 2 years. If they “sign and trade” and help both GSW and Giannis maximize his money and their cap situation while taking crap players and glorified second round draft picks I’m return I will never watch another game. The way it is, I went to one game - one - in about 1994 and it was so depressing and boring I didn’t come back to another game until 2017-2018 season because of Giannis. Now this year I droppped hundreds on tickets for one game to see the bucks because of him. If they are complicit with allowing him to leave, I won’t be back.
  17. I meant how would playoffs work.
  18. How in the world does 3 divisions work?
  19. Help me understand the implications of this headline: “World Health Organization says getting COVID-19 May not prevent second infection.“ I understand all the “this is speculation, this isn’t peer reviewed, this isn’t this or that.” But if you take it for what it says - that one can continue to get the virus...doesn’t that imply that as a human race we are more or less screwed? If true, I presume a second infection wouldn’t prevent a third and so on and so forth. Eventually we all will have it all the time non stop if it is contagious as it seems and we can’t become immune...no? Until we are all dead or eventually Kill ourselves out of the misery of constantly being sick. What am I missing here?
  20. With proper measures taken - chartered planes, no fans, limited staff, hotels that have been prescreened, etc. why couldn’t they just play in regular stadiums and live “at home” as they normally would when not on the road?
  21. Do you guys understand that if there is a season, with all big league players and the Brewers happen to win the World Series, that it doesnt preclude them from winning another one at some other point in time in the near future. Baseball will be played. Someone will be crowned champion. It isnt like the All-Star game location where once you hold it at your park you have to wait 20-30 years to get it again. For goodness sakes, it would totally count. You mean to tell me that the Brewers win this Cactus "Nortwest Dvision" and beat the Dodgers in the Championship Series and then the Yankees in the World Series you will seriously not want that to happen? Get a grip.
  22. Brewers division looks weak. They could win that division. Its a super interesting concept. I dont think it happens though due to the day time heat in AZ unless all games outside of Chase field are at night? But Im not an Arizona weather expert so correct me if I am wrong. Also, can fans come to the games? If Brewer fans are traveling to AZ to watch baseball and then spread the virus doesnt this defeat the purpose?
  23. This is my concern. I keep seeing this charts with the flattened curve. Those are great, but, if on the backside of the curve, may 15 looks the same as March 15, and March 15 required us to basically go in to house arrest to prevent the spread, now in the heck is May 15 any different I believe this shutdown has been effective and necessary. I also am worried that if we end it while there are still some cases out there that it will be all for not and cases will spike as feared in early March.
  24. If Fiers was quite terrible up to that point, then Woodruff/Houser are more so quite terrible. Fiers had a 3.66ERA and 3.61Fip for Milw in 341IP. A 2.8 BB/9 and 9.2 K/9 He's only pitched "terrible" for the Astros. During that stretch after trade Fiers did better for Houston than he was doing for Milw that season. That's a winning trade in respect to a season push in the playoffs. He's pitched to a 6.9BWar the last 2 seasons. Gomez was the worst trade for them. Fiers stated what the problem was in regards to the jerking around Gomez in starting lineups. Gomez netted Milw Hader and Santana. Fiers Phillips and Houser. Huge win on the Fiers part of that trade for Houston. I’ve never seen a report where it was broken down in to two trades like that. That’s interesting, I never knew it was actually two separate trades. Of course one could say it was Gomez for Santana and Phillips and the other side Fiers for Hader and Houser. Wonder if that’s a huge win for Houston on the Fiers side of things still. Or maybe it’s a huge win for Houston on both sides? Thoughts?
