  1. Can't wait to see how much he signed for. Brewers have better options at AAA.
  2. Williams should be in the pen. He is one of the best 25 players in the organization. I hate it when a team plays the option game for another year of control. Sign him pre-arby and control him for as long as the contract. He could be an impact arm this year, plus he needs to get MLB innings.
  3. From what I heard, the Brewers offered him 3 million on a 1 year deal, that's kind of insulting considering the year he had with the crew. Obviously Stearns thinks he will have an extreme regression and has other guys on the radar.
  4. Feliz got 5 million and was awful. Swarzak at 7 million a year is peanuts. If he has another good year, they could have traded him for a prospect or two. Stearns is going to pick up a couple guys from the scrap heap. One or two guys he thinks are going to have a bounce back year. Knebel is going to get over 10 million a year easily if he keeps putting up great numbers.
  5. There is a downside, especially if you have a team contending. Sure no one thought the Brewers were going to be contending last year but take Feliz for instance, the downside was more blown saves and losses than expected and maybe it kept them out of the playoffs.
  6. I'm all for Reed, offer 2 years 20 million and see if he laughs.
  7. Don't understand the move. It's not like the pitching coach saw something in Peralta that he was going to tweak because the Royals recently fired their pitching coach. KC star article mentioned them transitioning to younger players.
  8. Oh totally forgot Yost was still in KC. Buddy signing.
  9. Royals looking for a tank year. Must have a great agent.
  10. Interesting that his longest outing last year of 3 innings was against the Rangers. 3 ip, 0 hits, 1 bb, 2 so.
  11. He turned down a one year 10 million dollar option, so I'm sure it's above that.
  12. Might want to add him to the 40 man before he picks up his 3rd suspension. He won't be tested for his drug of choice if he's on it. If I recall correctly, Jeffress was down to his last strike when the Brewers put him on the 40 man.
  13. I thought Hughes was great at getting out of sticky situations last year. Jeffress wasn't forced into too many of those situations. I hope he does perform but I am betting against it.
  14. I use FIP/xFIP a lot, and they are very good predictive stats. But the one thing FIP doesn't say anything about is quality of contact and groundball rate. Hughes has, in (parts of) 7 seasons and almost 400 innings consistently outperformed his FIP (As in comparing ERA and FIP) by >1. At some point you just have to accept that the way he pitches, with a ton of groundballs, will see a lower ERA than FIP and that it isn't luck or a sign that he's due regression. Like him or not, prefer him over Jeffres/Williams/whoever or not, but I don't think using FIP against him is really fair. Well said. FIP and xFIP don't tell the whole story as do a lot of stats.
  15. Ohtani won't be.on roster.
  16. If you look at career numbers, Hughes has a lower career era, whip and 100 more innings. Jeffress was only a closer for 1 year. YES, Jeffress throws harder but its about getting outs. Maybe he can have sucess as the 6th or 7th inning guy. Can't wait for Jeffress to prove me wrong next year.
  17. I am tired of them signing relief guys for 1 to 5 million looking for a bounce back year. Open the wallet and sign a quality proven reliever, its not like can't afford to do that. I think the Brewers just love certain guys and I wont be surprised if Drake makes the 25 man.
  18. You're boggling your mind over 2 million in INCENTIVES when the Brewers are a 35 million dollar payroll operation? I'd hate to see your thoughts on a reliever signed for 10 mil a year guaranteed. Stearns low ball offers Hughes around a million then signs Jeffress for 1.75 and 2.2 in extra incentives. It's truly is an insult to Hughes when he was arguably one of the best relievers on the team. Look at the track record with him and Jeffress, Hughes is better. And he pitched in a lot more high leverage and difficult situations than Jeffress did last year. You are correct 5 million is pennies to a team and 10 million is around a buck. Jeffress will have a nice 4.5 era with a whip of 1.40 so I guess that's worth just over 2 million.
  19. And to find out that he has another potential 2+ million in incentives per year is mind boggling.
  20. You don’t understand why Brewers fans would like a player who has put up good numbers over multiple years as a Brewer? Seems odd. All of his off season incidents make him a great role model that deserves to be rewarded...Not. I dont care about the past, i care about going forward with the rebuild. Jeffress wasnt that spectacular last year and will probably continue to decline. I would like to see a better player at AAA be put on the roster at league minimum and see if a better value can be created. If Williams is at AAA and Jeffress is on roster, I will definately be upset.
  21. Huh. They don't have $3m for the guy with a 2.85 career e.r.a. but they can pay Jeffress, a guy who's lost the velocity he relies on so heavily and has behavioral issues to go with nearly a 1.5 career WHIP? I get the Jeffress theoretically has a little better "stuff", but this surprises and disappoints me (though I admit it's probably not of much consequence). I agree 100%. I watched Jeffress enough last year with Texas and he was horrible. A little better with Brewers. I would have offered a deal to Hughes before Jeffress. They spent 5 million on Feliz last year and wont give hughes a deal. I guess it may be a good year to tank for no. 1 or 2 draft pick.
  22. Rather have hughes than jeffress. I don't understand the love fest with Jeffress.
  23. I hope Pina gets a majority of the playing time. Pina finished 20th on this list. Vogt didn't make it. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2731242-mlb-position-power-rankings-brs-final-top-20-catchers-of-2017
  24. A guy at AAA is making around $2150 a month before taxes for 6 months, I've heard of players getting 4 to 5 thousand a month playing there. Not everyone playing in the winter leagues is playing for their country. Ask Tristan Archer why he is playing there. I'm sure it's for the money and not for his country.
  25. Taking bus rides to games with armed guards isn't the greatest situation. Problem is that these guys make more in 2 months playing down there than they did playing all year here. MLB needs to step up and pay the minor league guys a decent wage to make a living. I have always wondered if MLB continues drug testing of players in the Winter Leagues.
