  1. I thought Bayou would've been a top 5 selection. That's where my vote would've went.
  2. Didn't realize a quality start was an actual stat... Nice game by Haniger. Worst field conditions of any minor league team. Resodding of a field in the last few days made it the nearly unplayable. Hopefully the collision doesn't sidetrack anyone for an extended period of time. Guarantee first half clinch this series!!!
  3. I agree with you on the Garza signing. I didn't like it. It was a waste of money in my opinion and the money could of been spent better. Thornburg can start. Nelson can start. Fiers can start. Obviously they didn't know Fiers would be having a great year, but why spend on Garza when you have two better options for a lower cost? I'm stumped at the reasoning for signing him.
  4. I'll do a top 10 too... 1. Jimmy Nelson 2. Tyrone Taylor 3. Tyler Cravy 4. Jason Rogers 5. Mitch Haniger 6. Brent Suter 7. Drew Gagnon 8. Clint Coulter 9. Michael Reed 10. Taylor Jungmann
  5. Wang is just another example of what happens when you take a small sample size and act upon it. The Brewers have done the same with 40 man roster guys. Is he a major league pitcher? No, but we are past the point of returning him. He is going to be a Brewer whether we like it or not. How many years is he going to be a Brewer? Well that depends on Wang. I think they will put him on the DL at some point. People talk about wins and losses with Wang. No, he hasn't given up a game yet that we were leading in and probably won't, but how does him being on the 25 man team affecting overall team morale, especially if the other players don't think he belongs. Being from the Bay Area and seeing the Giants win two world series without the greatest roster makes you think a little bit more about team chemistry.
  6. Just throwing it out there...The Brewers will try and make him a sidearm lefty, like they did with a couple other minor league guys and he will be out of baseball in 1 to 2 years.
  7. I agree with everything your saying...I just hope the short sightedness doesn't result in one of our guys going somewhere else to play. I am still frustrated by the Garza signing because it held Thornburg or Nelson back from starting.
  8. The AFL does have players with Major League experience, so it's a good test for pitchers. How have the Brewers top prospect pitchers fared over the last 5 years in the AFL?
  9. 6 errors by the Sounds...Is that a record?
  10. If it was the interview on Bill Michaels show, not exactly. Luc was asked if he would pitch Wang in a close game, to which he said - to his credit - 'no.' Lucroy noted that Wang's fastball velocity is great, and that his delivery makes it "sneaky fast" because it gets on the hitter so quickly; Wang's secondary pitches aren't major league ready yet, which makes it difficult to use him in high-leverage situations. (I don't usually listen to the show, but I happened to catch the interview on a drive back from the Courthouse.) I just read part of it the other day and Lucroy said they had better options than Wang...not sure what situation they were talking about.
  11. Lucroy had some comments about Wang the other day...He made it sound like Wang has average stuff.
  12. I got a Gomez bobblehead during a spring training game at Maryvale this year. They were gone pretty quickly.
  13. He doesn't need to be. He just needs to be on the roster for 90 days, then can go on the 60-day DL and be returned to the minors next year all without hurting the Brewers playoff chances 1 iota. As somebody else said, would the Brewers be 19-4 with Figaro instead of Wang? Can we please, please, please stop saying we can simply work out a trade with Pittsburg to circumvent the Rule 5 process, That is making me crazy. It's simply untruthful and causing lots of problems about the process of what CAN be done with one's Wang. If Wang is to be off our 25man roster, he HAS to be waived or DL'd. Being DL'd would require 90 days of service time on the 25man (over 2 years) to fulfill the obligations of the Rule 5 draft. The Brewers can definitely wait out the 90 days. I do like the idea of putting him on the 60 day DL...phantom injury...and sticking him in the minors next year. A possible future starter needs innings and he's not going to get it this year. I don't really think you can look at comparing Figaro vs. Wang for the simple fact that they don't come in to pitch under the same circumstances. Wang isn't going to be given the opportunity to hold or save a game. If you have Figaro coming into the same situation as Wang then he wouldn't be hurting the team. The way Nelson and Fiers are pitching at AAA A gives me hope this season. Even the pitchers at AA are putting up good numbers.
  14. if he's put back into the brewers' minor league system in 2015, he's obviously not on the 25-man roster. if they want to keep him on the 40-man roster in 2015, but in the minor leagues, they'd have to option him (burning his first option). if they want to keep him in the organization at the conclusion of the 2014 season, but remove him from the 40-man roster, wang could be claimed by any other team with a 40-man spot open, and would enter 2015 spring training with three minor league options remaining. if no other team claims him, he remains brewers' property, but could be subject to the rule 5 draft again. one would think that if a team truly wanted wang in 2015, they'd claim him as a waiver claim (can be optioned) and not a rule 5 pick (cannot be optioned). Thanks for clearing that up.
  15. Wang could have a 10.00 era and pitch 50 innings and it wouldn't matter as to decision to select him in the Rule 5 draft. He wasn't selected to shine in 2014 at the big league level. He was selected because his upside is better than what they have currently at the same age in the minor league levels. Whether he ever spends a day on the 40man or 25man or gets back to the big leagues after 2014 still isn't a reason to not select him in the Rule 5 draft. Somebody "who's earned it" (the 25th man) isn't going to help the Brewers MORE in 2014 than Wang. Quite frankly, there isn't anybody in AAA that's earned it, in my opinion beyond the word longevity. The gamble of giving away the 25th spot on the active roster to a left hander with tremendous upside, isn't that great of a gamble in my opinion. Unfortunately, since you decided to reshow in this thread after a bad outing looking to call it his career, I think it's going to take 4-5 years before one can truly determine the merit of his selection. At the Major League level it's about winning games not developing pitching. Bottom line...It's a wasted position spot that could go to someone who could actually help us get wins. Your way off in your thinking that someone else couldn't help the Brewers more than Wang. Granted he is going to get his 20-30 innings this year and next year we will see how he does in A ball. I have heard way too many people quote tremendous upside for a player only to have the player gone in 2-3 years.
  16. I'm not going to say I called it with numerous previous posts....but I'm leaning towards it. Wang has only had a couple of outings...lets give it a couple months and see where he's at before I go off again. It's defeating to have a possible prospect go in for mop up roles only and get rocked. The brewers put themselves in this situation by taking him in the Rule 5. He will be with the team the whole year now. My question is, after year one when Wang gets put back into the brewers minor system, will he still remain on the 25 man roster? or 40 man? or not at all?
  17. Winning games should be first and foremost at the MLB level. If it's going to take bunting against the shift to get guys on, then it should be done. The shift is based on statistical data on each hitter. Until the hitter starts shifting the data in a different direction they will forever be using a shift on them.
  18. I was wondering about Mark Williams...haven't seen him on any lineups this spring.
  19. This is where I look at a roster and think "oh no"... you have 2 SSs who project as MLB players defensively, but neither one hit particularly well last season. I have no problem with Arcia getting bumped up nor Rivera repeating A+ again based on their career arcs, but if this becomes one of those deals where one guy is sitting while the other plays I'll be pissed. Rodriguez is a nice utility guy, I like "Fredo" as Mehring referred to him, but if he plays any SS outside of an injury, someone needs a punch in the eye. I not opposed to the idea of Rivera and Arcia splitting time between SS and 2B increasing their positional flexibility, but I feel much better about Orlando's long-term prospects than I do Yadiel at this point. So if push came to shove and they were going to choose 1 or the other, they'd better make the correct choice about which prospect ends up playing SS. Does this mean McFarland heads back to WI? I'll also echo MH, how are none of those relievers promoted to AA? Tommy Toledo especially, he put up 1.1 WHIP, 2.11 ERA, 7H/9, 2.9BB/9, and 7.2K/9 last year, he now almost has a full 1.5 years in A+. What more would he need to do? Jed Bradley returns to A+ for the 3rd straight year... I don't have the words... hopefully he earns a quick bump. Toledo and a couple other pitchers definitely deserve to be in Double A. I could see this happening with the logjam at AAA and AA. Most of the starters back at Double A didn't have very good seasons last year. Leon is in his 10th year and still at Double A???
  20. From what I have heard...Rogers will be at 3rd base...not exactly excited about that. I don't think Double A is a good place to experiment with a new position. Guess that's what happens when there's a log jam at one position.
  21. It should be 162 games 1st offense, Lifetime ban 2nd offense.
  22. I wish all these guys good luck in finding somewhere to play...keeping the dream alive.
  23. When do the actual rosters become available?
