  1. During the last 3 years? Lucroy & Gomez improved tremendously. Khris Davis & Scooter Gennett exceeded any (or at least most) expectations that were had for them 3 years ago. Rickie Weeks' stats were far better in '14 than in '13 or '12 (admittedly due in large part to being platooned, but still Rickie hit .294 with a .351 OBP vs RHP last season). Jean Segura hit .271 with a .330 OBP in the 2nd half of 2014 I'd say Narron was just a fall guy, and in actuality is a very good hitting coach
  2. I'm really concerned that this was a wrong move by the Brewers. Granted it is just one more year and he did hit .285 last year with 15 HR's, but his OPS is going way down
  3. I seriously doubt even Melvin and/or Mark A think that simply acquiring Lind is enough to put us over the top to be a playoff team. Although I suppose maybe they are playing the "IF Game" to go along with that thinking: If Braun returns to the MVP caliber player. If Segura plays like he did in the first half of 2013. If everyone stays healthy. If Davis develops like they think he will. If Peralta becomes a Cy Young candidate etc etc Still scary
  4. That is a little scary to think that we may be essentially done
  5. Wow.... hadn't seen that yet..... amazing! Yes that is a big upgrade
  6. Luis Jimenez has played 1B in the minors, and has hit well at every level in the minors and is said to be a terrific defensive 3B. I could see him potentially being a platoon partner with Lind. In 117 games in AAA this season he slashed .286/.321/.505 with 21 home runs and had 12 stolen bases for good measure.
  7. True, maybe Ramon Santiago then.... the point I'm trying to make is that needing to platoon Lind isn't as big of a deal if the guy who platoons with Scooter can also play 3B/SS even OF (maybe Elian Herrera is already that guy)
  8. I could see the Brewers signing someone like an Asdrubal Cabrera or Jed Lowrie, a guy who can platoon with Gennett but also play multiple infield positions
  9. It does seem like it, doesn't it? My father-in-law is distraught over this trade because it means his favorite player, Lyle Overbay, likely won't be back. I tried to explain to him that Lyle will be 38, hit something like .232 last year etc etc, but he didn't want to hear about it. Lind, btw, does have experience playing OF.
  10. Thanks to the interleague schedule, Lind has faced NL pitchers before, albeit in small samples I'd be shocked if Melvin is done. There are still plenty of pieces to put in place.
  11. Doug Melvin's contract runs through 2015, correct? I would not at all be surprised if Melvin informed the Brewers that he plans on retiring after next season and Montgomery has come on board with the understanding that he will take over following the '15 season
  12. "Adam brings us a productive left-handed bat at a position of need with the ability to hit in the middle of the order," general manager Doug Melvin said. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/281184141.html
  13. I always respect & enjoy your insights, so I'm wondering why? Lind, if used correctly, has consistently mashed RHP
  14. This is a really great trade! I'm definitely excited for the Brewers to have a legit 1B in the lineup Huge career split differentials for Lind: vs RHP .293 .349 .510 .860 vs LHP .212 .257 .331 .588 Seriously? A career .331 SLG % vs LHP? Yes, this closes the door on Adam LaRoche rumors Great trade
  15. I would say that the Brewers are in bigtime trouble and 'stache's post illustrates why, quite well. Having said that I remain ever optimistic.
  16. Montgomery would be a very good signing and an excellent heir apparent to Melvin when Melvin retires
  17. Going by the pattern, they won't repeat but will win it again in 2016 I tend to think of "Dynasties" as teams that dominate, like the mid-70's Reds. The Giants aren't that, but they are an extremely impressive franchise, and I believe that Boche has earned his place as one of the All-Time great managers
  18. weird timing of this announcement for a franchise that seems (in the opinion of many) to be drifting without direction
  19. Arcia looks incredible. AA ball in 2015, AAA in 2016? Maybe in MLB at the age of 22 in 2017?
  20. They also aren't doing a bunch of other things that winning teams do either, like hitting grounders to the right side of the infield with a man on 3rd and less that 2 outs. They are up there hacking. And it isn't just those 3, it is practically the whole team besides Lucroy & Weeks.
  21. 2 games from a World Championship now, and every move Yost made tonight worked out great, from having Cain in RF to Gordon batting 2nd to the way the relief pitching was used. In my wildest dreams I wish Roenicke managed like Yost did tonight
  22. Random meaningless factoid: Coles' son-in-law is Zach Segovia. Segovia signed a minor league contract with the Brewers prior to the 2011 season and pitched for Nashville that year. He pitched in the Rangers organization last year
  23. Does anyone actually think that Ramirez could improve on his 1.4 WAR last season? He's going to be 37 years old. Giving $10+ million to a 1.4 WAR guy is the very definition of insanity.
  24. Yuni B! According to Baseball Reference Yuni B had a -0.5 WAR in 2011. That means you could have replaced him with any AAAA/replacement type player and it would have been an improvement!!! Melvin bringing him back in 2013 where he was worth -1.9 WAR (according to Fangraphs) is reason enough that Melvin should have been fired long ago
  25. hey if all we care about is career production, forget A-Ram, give me A-Rod. I'm sure the Yankees would be thrilled to deal his contract. Should we pencil A-Rod in for 40 HR's in 2015?
