  1. We could trade Yelich for Gavin Lux
  2. I love it when fans think they know which relief pitcher should be brought in when..when in reality they have zero inside info as to how each pitcher's arm is feeling on a given day...
  3. I like Counsell. He'd look more like a top flight manager if he had an elite pitching staff. Counsell seems like a great mix between old school & new school. He can relate to the players as well as the front office. In a lot of ways I think Counsell is the perfect manager for the Brewers. He just needs more talent to manage. Any reason to fire Counsell, to me, would be stuff that fans aren't privy to. For instance, if Counsell was 99% of the reason that Derek Johnson left, or if he refused to do what the front office told him to do etc etc
  4. Oh the pessimism is running deep now!!! They'll get hot and stay in it through the end of the season. I'm actually finding this season fun to watch lately. Hiura & Yelich are tremendous talents, the types you can build around. Braun has been better than I thought he would be. Arcia seems like he's figured a few things out with his swing. I think the future is still bright. They've had some pitching disappointments & pitching injuries. It happens. They'll figure it out. If not this year then in 2020...
  5. I don't think you can extend Yelich without a change in the method of operations by our owner. If our budget is maxed out now, and we cannot sign pitchers to top level contracts, we certainly cannot afford to extend a great player like Yelich.
  6. Since the farm isn't "that deep" how are we going to be able to get impact pieces back?
  7. Still closer to title contention than a full on rebuild, however they definitely need a change in the way they do things. This team needs more pitching.
  8. I'm thinking Dubon might be part of a trade package being worked out, and they don't want to risk having him go to the show and struggle & lower his trade value
  9. The Hamilton pick has some signability risk. There is talk that he might return to Texas to raise his draft stock for 2020.
  10. My initial reaction was one of disappointment & anger, that the move was all about Keston's service time. I suppose, though, as someone else said, that he was likely told when he came up "this is just while Travis is rehabbing his injury and then you are going back down." Keston is quickly becoming my favorite player, but he could improve some defensively, and he was striking out at a higher rate in MLB than he ever did in the minors, so there are certainly things he can work on while back in San Antonio. He does look like he can be a very special player. He can really hit. I would imagine if Shaw continues to struggle we'll see Hiura back up sooner rather than later....
  11. Dominating the SEC is not exactly easy. I like the pick. It's a roll of the dice picking this late...
  12. I predict the Brewers will take 2 college pitchers in their first 3 picks. They need pitching that can potentially rise quickly through the system. Personally, I like Aaron Schunk at 28 if he's there.
  13. Most pitchers are volatile year to year. Selling high on Hader would have been a genius move too. The guesswork as to which pitchers will produce year to year is somewhat akin to picking stocks, the goal is to win more than you lose.
  14. [ Fine. Harold Baines is rolling over in his grave at all these game winning RBI opportunities. He's still alive too. LOL! Literally How bout Ty Cobb? He might be rolling over in his grave. Although old Ty was kinda tired of hitters trying for the HR ball by the early 1920's
  15. Just 4 innings out of Chase tonight. It is good to have him back though. If he keeps pitching as he has, he really helps solidify our rotation
  16. Nope! I wasn't sure if he'd still be able to hit. At some point every ballplayer gets to a point where they cannot even hit .200 --- early on, Braun kinda looked at times like he might be done. He's "only" 35 though. Hard to predict. I hope he keeps hitting. Willie Mays had his best season at age 34. Mays was a once in a generation type talent though. I tend to think of Braun as a HOF talent who couldn't stay healthy enough to put up HOF career numbers. As I said I hope he keeps hitting!
  17. I missed the game. How did Hiura look at the plate tonight? I know he went 0 for 4
  18. I don't see that at all. He looks fine physically. I think his issues are on the mental side. I suspect he's been dealing with injuries off & on much of the year. For competitive reasons, teams don't disclose all the minor injuries that players grind through week to week. When you see Shaw up close in person, he is gigantic human. Very very strong. I don't doubt that he worked hard all off season.
  19. Makes sense. I appreciate the detailed reply. I get it that hindsight is 20/20 etc I suppose when they signed Moustakas I thought "wow, Keuchel or Kimbrel must be coming next", and the disappointment that they didn't add pitching has colored my thinking.
  20. Strongly agree. Relief pitchers are just so unpredictable. Hader is already showing signs that he might not be as good this year as he was last year. There is no guarantee that he is even going to be good at all in 2020, or healthy... If you can get a haul for Hader this July that can really help in future years, absolutely I'd do that I suspect Mark might meddle and put the kibosh on dealing Hader though. Just a guess
  21. Moose has nice numbers so far and has won them some games. When he was out of the lineup, the lineup was quite stagnant. Also, what difference making pitcher takes a one year deal like Grandal or Moose? I still am thankful for the move in bringing him back. I like Moustakas, however Keston Hiura has a .680 SLG in AAA right now. Granted I'm just an armchair GM but it seems glaringly obvious that there is a bigger need for pitching than a 2B.
