  1. Yeah but if that were you, you would have had a different life. Most likely you didn’t go to Homecoming or Prom or party with the boys in high school, too busy training or playing ball. There would have been no “typical college experience”, you would have been too busy working year round. Or riding a bus in the minor leagues. Competing against players older and stronger than you. Seeing your friends have their careers end because they didn’t produce or because of injuries, and knowing every day that could be you. Playing in pain most days of the season. Your body breaking down and people offering you Roids but knowing that could end your career too, if caught, or hurt your health. Meanwhile your wife is calling, asking about the bills. You are hoping she’s still being faithful to you even though she’s young and hot looking and you are away for months at a time. Then you finally make it to the Majors and you need to be able to hit 95 mph pitches with crazy movement, preferably for power, or get sent home. Yeah, Baseball players lives aren’t as easy as it seems.
  2. I put it at 0.001% of a chance that there will be fans in the stands.
  3. Yes. Woodmans West in Madison. A couple of weeks ago. They might be out again.
  4. Languishing in Boston, yes. Also: Cooper’s zero World Series rings, and non flashy persona cost him, too. Not “Famous” enough. HOF voters like flash & stardom, unless you are too flashy. If you are too flashy or controversial you have to be one of the best. Also: You can break some rules as long as you don’t break others. And, it’s very important to not break certain rules that weren’t actually rules when you played, but some people think they should have been rules so then you are out.
  5. I think that sending kids back to school in the Fall is completely insane. The longterm effects for those who survive Covid are not known...
  6. Wait. What?! Of course they are safer at home, and socially distancing. How is that not obvious? And most of them have enough money for fantastic health care at home
  7. How would such a thing come out?! We all knew Mark was a greedy owner anyways, right up until that moment when he gave Yelich $200 million+ !
  8. It’s entirely possible that MLB would be a better overall product with 50-70 game seasons. Less arm injuries. Less superstars being worn down by August let alone October... fresher bodies means more exciting plays... every game means something
  9. So far 0.0003% of the United States population has died from Covid-19. I hope that number remains low!
  10. No sports for 3 months has already done enough damage to society as a whole. Sure if you're 25 years it's not such a big deal, but when you are a senior you cherish every healthy year you have left or if you have a terminal illness, every possible distraction from your suffering is meaningful and not having daily sports to watch/follow IS a BIG DEAL. Especially when the alternative is constant bombardment of turmoil in our streets. Athletes, owners, sports media, politicians. There's plenty of blame to go around. Sports has been a fabric of American society for generations and a unifying thread. But like most American institutions, it too seems to be under attack. Well said, sir! Well said. I certainly hope there’ll be be sports to watch as the season progresses. I remain optimistic about it. So far 0.0003% of the United States population has died from Covid-19. I hope that number remains low! Looking forward to watching Yelich and the Brew Crew again soon!
  11. If they rated the players they’ve gotten so far higher than any pitchers available at that time, it certainly makes sense to me...
  12. Usually when you are suspended for “skipping class”, there are some underlying attitude issues and the skipping class suspension is just an excuse the coaches use to get you out of the practice field etc... he had a knee injury going on at the same time... I have no doubt that the Brewers did plenty of background work on Zamora. I think it was a great pick... and I think it’s a pick that sends a message to Turang, to a degree, to step it up with the bat...
  13. Zamora is a fantastic roll of the dice in Round 2, in my opinion. Plus plus defensive Shortstops are valuable, always.
  14. I’ll be happy with 50 games. Doesn’t matter to me, I’ll just be thrilled to have Baseball back... I like the Brewers chances of potential success in a shorter season... the way the Brewers utilize “out getters” and bullpenning, as well as platoon advantages on offense, could really work in the Brewers favor... although it might be tough for Counsell to get all 162 double switches in, in just 50 games...
  15. Wow, just wow. When the owners ganged up, threw out Fay Vincent for siding with the players and gave Selig the commissioner spot, that moment right there is the most defining moment of owners being only interested in profit and having no regard for the good of the game. That and turning a blind eye to Steroids, even though they knew steroids were rampant. McGwire & Sosa gave the owners huge profits in bringing Baseball back to popularity after the 94 strike, and then they turn around and vilify the steroid guys. Selig in the Hall of Fame, but Bonds and McGwire are not. That to me illustrates everything wrong with Baseball.
  16. I think the likelihood of Football in the Fall is very very low. Baseball can employ some degree of social distancing. Football? None. And many football players are higher risk because of their weight/borderline obesity.
  17. Bowling Green University (D1) shutdown their Baseball program a few days ago, due to financial problems because of Covid-19. I’m concerned that many many more college programs will do the same. Non-revenue sports like College Baseball are always financially vulnerable anyways, and this could push it over the edge.
  18. Bill Hall with a Pink Bat is the Greatest of All Time.
  19. The reason the draft is so long is because the bigtime prospects need teams and leagues to compete against while developing in the minors.
  20. Interesting thread. I appreciate the good reading. In terms of Baseball, much will change. Many Junior Colleges will go out of business, and/or drop athletics. The same can be said for many public D3’s and D2’s, especially in terms of “non revenue sports” like Baseball. If we don’t return to normal in terms of crowds at games, I could see a lot of lower level minor league teams and summer college teams going out of business. Those teams rely on crowds to make ends meet. Taken to an extreme, we could even see contraction in major sports leagues, with the lowest revenue teams bowing out.
  21. I will put in a vote for Mark Loretta. I recognize that he played a few different positions with the Brewers, but he did play quite a bit of 2B. From 1996-2001 he put up a .292 batting average with a .357 OBP
  22. I would replace Surhoff with Simmons.
  23. Here’s another article on the same topic https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-04-21/autopsies-reveal-first-confirmed-u-s-coronavirus-deaths-occurred-in-bay-area-in-early-february?fbclid=IwAR3zKTl5u4IxCsEKDaUoUeqTOozo5IG3i1wPr7fxv1z34TPvfqpHZtY4F8U I’m fairly sure that a first round of this virus swept through Madison in late February. If so: My entire family got it. At some point the results of widespread testing will be fascinating
  24. Oldschoolsnapper: my sympathies for your loss
  25. Thanks. That’s good to hear
