  1. Brewers dumped Durbin right after getting Jett Williams. When asked why they were willing to let go of Durbin, Arnold said at the time that its because they dont want to block their prospects. Both the Brewers and the Red Sox could have gotten Rengifro beforehand if they thought he was an upgrade. But he was always intended as a fill-in. Durbin's got a sub-500 OPS. What about that says he is an upgrade even over Rengifro, much less Williams? Durbin's 2025 season is looking like a flash in the pan and they dont need him (Pratt + Williams).
  2. Sproat has a healthy line first time through the order against good competiton. There is plenty of room for that in the pen
  3. We arent going to have those 7-9 hitters come playoffs, while their replacements are sitting at AAA. Not to say they wont hunt for a bigger player if they can find a bargain, but Dodgers also can trade away prospects if they want to. A few of these guys were temporary filler to start the season and Arnold said as much when they traded away Durbin. LF Leonard 980 OPS CF Lara 949 3B Williams 768 SS Pratt 733
  4. Feels they trotted out the "Sunday lineups" with the staff this weekend (Henderson/Gasser/Sproat). Cooling the exuberance. Not giving the Dodgers any new film to work with on our starters, like they did to us last year. Gasser pitching to Sanchez doesnt strike fear in the opponents right now. If we eek out one or two, great. Come back down to earth and get back to work and youre not as good as you think.
  5. with the surge of Harrison, its a bit less critical but it would be nice to get a veteran arm if neither of Priester and Woodruff are convincing by trade deadline. While the youth and longevity is a concern, one thing i like about the construction of the pitching staff is that so many can come in and dominate for stretches. We dont have the typical innings eater pitchers of the past like Quintana who offer nothing for us in the playoffs, where dominant pitching in short bursts is ideal. There are a lot of guys on the roster who could dominate for 2-3-4 innings, which is going to be fun in the postseason.
  6. I dont see any chance of optioning Sproat. His first few innings each appearance prove he can beat good offenses. That makes him valuable to the pen, regardless of whether or not he is the odd man odd soon
  7. Well, you gotta make the call. I feel like there is some kind of moral obligation to take his wallet if he just leaves it sitting there.
  8. brewers are in great shape but there's just no reason to sacrifice for one shot in a year you cant say you're better than the Dodgers. The Dodgers not only have the allstar lineup, but they also have 7 top 100 prospects according to MLB pipeline. So they are also in great position to upgrade if necessary and healthy for their future.
  9. i dont think it helps him or the club to be up here looking lost at the plate. he needs to recalibrate in the minors and give someone else (Lara/Black) some ABs
  10. honestly im encouraged that QP was able to get through a number of batters and strike a couple guys out and has decent velocity right now. those are green flags for me that he will probably figure it out, when you consider how bad his other starts have been
  11. If MLB were even, I think the Brewers would dominate. The scouting and development remains critical, but now they would also be able to compete on player price and hold onto their talent longer. Unless teams started throwing silly money at gutting our system. Imagine having the tradeable pipeline of talent, plus being able to hold onto Turang, Miz and Contreras for longer into their prime.
  12. "PCA looks like he needs a hug" https://x.com/breedelio/status/2057289754152997333?s=20
  13. yeah i cant understand why he isnt at least in the conversation. He's only 25, plays a position we need some power from and is really hitting the ball well.
  14. in other words, they faced they Yankees, Padres and Cubs pitching. Really its the weak players that have struggled even more during this stretch.
  15. I think Sproat is the ideal candidate for this type of role at this point in his career. Completely dominates through 3-4 innings and then falls of a cliff with his command. Not sure he can be stretched out any time soon.
  16. my thoughts as well. seems its Hamilton next. Hamilton's primary value is as a pinch runner right now. They arent likely to walk away as quickly from a $3.5m investment in Rengifro until one proves clearly better than the other.
  17. i fell for that last year, but never again, they way they erased the big Cubs lead like it was nothing and never stopped after that. Just was a matter of time this year to get some guys healthy. The real scare yet for the league is they arent quite at full strength (Woody/Yelich/Priester/Koenig) and they have a number of very upgradable bats in their lineup.
  18. Black (.838 OPS), Lara (.948) and Leonard (1.002) are done with AAA. Payne and Adamczewski also look promising. Lockridge comes back. In the sense there are too many guys right now who should be at the next level in some capacity, there is a logjam, even though Buxton is an immediate upgrade.
  19. flipping him for prospects might make sense, but they are still in playoff contention right now. unloading your best player with 2 years on the contract will piss off fans unless they get a haul in return, and no reason to expect that won't happen. Would the Brewers be a good suitor? sure, they have prospects to deal and could use some more pop for playoffs and they have some struggles in the OF this year. But they have somewhat of a logjam with Chourio/Yelich/Bauers/Lockridge/Mitchell/Frelick/Perkins and their most-ready hitters at AAA in Leonard/Lara/Black. Seems the real opportunity is replacing from within, but Id be all for packing some of these guys and a couple arms to get a bat like that.
  20. zerpa in the WBC looked like he could be special so hard to know where the problems really started. You cant win every trade but they gave up Siegler/Collins/Durbin/Monasterio/Comp and got Harrison/Sproat/Drohan/Hamilton/Zerpa. Thats an amazing pitching haul. The pieces they gave up were placeholders for the waves of upper level talent in the minors right now. If Collins stays, what chances do you get for Bauers & Lockridge, not to mention Lara & Black? Collins .685 OPS Lockridge .710 Bauers .847 Durbin .491 Hamilton .570 Monasterio .698 The brewers flipped redundant filler for prospects with real upside once again
  21. that's not necessary for Perkins, unless they need to remove him from the 40 man altogether. He can be optioned. Rengifro cant be optioned, but Ortiz or Hamilton can.
  22. Leonard crushed 20 HRs at age 24 last year in AAA but that seemed like a fluke when you look at his career. Looks instead like the brewers found something.
  23. question: since Pratt is signed long term, his clock is already ticking, whereas Williams isnt, correct? pratt seems the better fielder and they are both about equal right now as RH hitters, so i dont know why choose Williams over Pratt.
