  1. One of the early possibilities for 1-1 in 2016 is high school RHP Riley Pint, who obviously has an 80 name for a potential Milwaukee Brewer.
  2. I was concerned that Arcia was cooling off after his scorching start to the season, glad to see him ranked so highly (even it's Keith Law)!
  3. I could see Mark A intervening and telling them to pick Aiken in order to make the biggest splash possible.
  4. I don't if I would. Segura could be a decent 2B, while Sardinas is too much of a light hitter. He really needs that SS defensive value to be valuable to a team. Though I guess something at 2B is better than nothing. So maybe Sardinas and his more years of control become a factor. Because come 2016/2017 whoever is sitting at SS is moving regardless. Seems pretty obvious Arcia is hitting the bigs over at SS. Segura can not hit well enough to play anywhere but SS.
  5. Clay Aiken was drafted by the Cardinals last year and converted to a starting pitcher. He's currently leading the minor leagues in ERA and WHIP.
  6. I was hoping Arcia or Coulter were going to catapult themselves into top-50/top-25 discussion this season, but they've cooled off considerably. Arcia having a solid season but showing very little power is not a breakout to me. The kids in Wisconsin are off to horrendous starts. I used the word "all" because I'm referring to our handful of potentially-elite prospects. Lesser guys like Michael Reed are having great seasons, obviously.
  7. Hadn't checked the minor league stat lines in a while, glad to see all our prospects plummeting back to earth after their hot starts. Arcia still having a nice season, but not the breakout it had looked like.
  8. Wow! Latest BA mock draft now has Tyler Jay going #1 overall: http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mlb-mock-draft-2015-version-3-0/ What's the highest a guy who was used as a reliever in college has ever been drafted? They have us taking Funkhouser again, though Allard gets a mention in the blurb.
  9. Only recounting this secondhand because I don't pay for Insider, but Keith Law has us taking HS SS Kevin Newman, and also mentions HS SP Tristan Beck and HS 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes as potential targets. Last month Law ranked Newman as the #2 overall draft prospect.
  10. After our all-upside draft last season and the state of the major league roster right now, I just do not understand anyone projecting the Brewers to pick a safe, high-floor college player (e.g., Funkhouser, arguably). It's about as clear as you can get that we should be using our top picks on guys who will contribute 4+ years from now.
  11. Is that why teams routinely sign dirtbags like Francisco Rodriguez and far worse individuals? K-Rod is a far worse person than Barry Bonds, it's not even close. I also think it needs to be emphasized that he (allegedly) offered to play for the league minimum. If that's true then collusion is obvious. You would have to be a Nazi war criminal for teams' fear of the "distraction" you would bring to outweigh the obvious benefit of having one of the best sluggers in the game for the league minimum.
  12. That's not nearly enough coming to Milwaukee, in my opinion. Lucroy and Gomez and a pitcher in a single trade you are talking like Addison Russell + Jorge Soler + Javier Baez + others territory. (The kind of mega-deal that would never happen).
  13. We're trading Lucroy, Gennett and Gatewood, and not getting a single top-100 prospect or major league player in return??? Blair's a very good catching prospect from Oakland posting a .976 OPS at AA (http://www.baseball-reference.com/route.cgi?player=1&mlb_ID=542942), and Walsh (http://www.baseball-reference.com/route.cgi?player=1&mlb_ID=595023) is a switch-hitting second-baseman who's posting an OPS of .842, Correa's (http://www.baseball-reference.com/route.cgi?player=1&mlb_ID=621043) delivering huge offensive performance at age 20 in AA (I misspelled the name), Atherton (http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=athert001tim) and Hader (http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=hader-000jos) are posing good numbers so far, and Hader's 21 at AA. Phillips (http://www.baseball-reference.com/route.cgi?player=1&mlb_ID=621433) is putting up some huge numbers as well, and he's 21 at A+. My mistake, should have noticed. Correa would be great, but that's still a light return for Lucroy and two other nice pieces (Gennett/Gatewood). I think the even bigger flaw though is that Houston would never do that. Why would they give up one of the best prospects in baseball (plus other pieces?) for Jacob Gatewood and a marginal 1B like Ike Davis?
  14. If they try this defense it will sound pretty nonsensically. As businesses, team could not care less about steroids (much less the alleged "PR nightmare" Bonds would bring, whatever that means). I doubt there is a shred of evidence that steroid-users negatively affect ticket sales, actually it's probably the opposite. Especially with a guy where every HR he hits is setting a new all-time record. Bonds was still one of the best players in the game and he undoubtedly would have boosted revenues wherever he went, no matter how hard baseball writers cried about it. I'll be fascinated to see MLB's defense in court.
  15. We're trading Lucroy, Gennett and Gatewood, and not getting a single top-100 prospect or major league player in return???
  16. MLBTR's "editorial" content is generally very shoddy. I'm not saying Lohse or Garza are amazing trade chips, but if a team pursues them it's going to be because of their talent and not their first handful of starts in 2015. I think both could return decent B-level prospects.
  17. I have a relatively-uninformed hunch that the Brewers will go with Chris Betts.
  18. For me as a fan it is much more fun to watch an amusingly bad team coast to the worst record in baseball while maybe calling up a couple of interesting rookies whose development I can watch. Mediocre, roughly .500 baseball, #15 pick in the draft, etc., is beyond tiresome at this point. Even if you got rid of every other team in the NL Central and the Brewers somehow made the playoffs this season, does anyone think this roster could win a World Series? It's not going to happen. Fans who only want to go to a Brewers game when the Brewers are winning are holding back the franchise. We need to blow things up.
  19. I would be disappointed in that return for Gomez. Andrew Susac is not very exciting and he's the only top prospect they have, not sure there's a good fit.
  20. Guess the author is a Mets fan, that return is laughable. All three of Matz, Montero, and Molina would be a more realistic asking price for Segura.
  21. Before we even traded for him the stats made clear that Lind was one of the best hitters vs RHP in the game, I don't think that's a knock on our players.
  22. Except for the fact Coulter was drafted as a catcher and intended to be used that way. He had enormous value as a possible .270 and 20+ homer Catcher...as an iffy defense corner OFer...not so much. Yeah, somebody like Hunter Pence has no value. [sarcasm]Wish we could get that Coulter pick back![/sarcasm]
  23. Coulter is a first round pick who put up a .930 OPS season followed now by a 1.034 OPS season so far, that's all I need to know to know he's a legit prospect. As fans we need to try to piece together different clues to figure out how the actual professional scouting departments value him (i.e. not just fan-oriented publications), and in that respect the fact that Coulter is a first-round pick and someone like Khris Davis was a seventh-round pick makes a huge difference. Every single team passed on Davis 6+ times, so even if he tears up minor league pitching that says something about his tools and ultimate ceiling.
  24. http://i.ytimg.com/vi/FpoyshqB8-o/0.jpg "We'll always have that Braun infield single, Craig."
  25. Thank you Dave Cameron for finally writing a sensible article!!! Here's another fanciful suggestion: C Jonathan Lucroy RHP Matt Garza (and all or most of Garza's remaining contract in $$$) for C Blake Swihart 2B/SS Yoan Moncada 3B Garin Ceccihini Swihart fills an immediate need as Lucroy's replacement and our catcher of the future, and Milwaukee finally gets the guy they really wanted in Moncada. Eating all or most of Garza's salary offsets most of Boston's financial commitment in Moncada and essentially just lets us "win" the bidding on him like we wanted to in the first place. I think you would actually still need a piece like Cecchini to balance the trade, and he fills another big need for Milwaukee as a possible starter at 3B, but if Boston loves him then we could ask for a lesser third piece instead.
