  1. AAA and be the 3rd catcher in the wings. Possibly 4th behind Freitas, but Nottingham is still just 24 (young for a catcher) and hasn't exactly forced his way on to the roster at AAA. How long do we have Nottingham until he becomes a minor league FA?
  2. Stealin' Stearns is at it again!!! That's a light return if I ever saw one.
  3. That could be why it is taking so long to get details on this, as the teams are working on a larger package. I could see Rosenthal's source being the agent of a Brewers prospect told he's getting traded to Seattle for Narvaez, but the front offices are hammering out more as we speak.
  4. If the Brewers really believe in Narvaez's bat they could even make him a 1B/C to pair with a lefty masher like C.J. Cron. Gives you a solid 1B platoon with added roster felixibilty because Narvaez could also be the backup to Pina.
  5. Pretty good combo at C. Three year (2017-19) splits: vs RHP Narvaez - .347 wOBA Pina - .308 wOBA vs LHP Pina - .320 wOBA Narvaez - .306 wOBA
  6. Waiting for the return to be announced, this is the rare instance of me being thankful we have a poor farm I have my personal favorites as a Brewers homer (Turang, Rasmussen, etc), but does it really matter who gets traded? We don't have a single prospect that would be unfair to include in a trade for Narvaez. Do we even have one in the top 100 anymore?
  7. I don't see the makings of a Bundy breakout. His biggest problem has always been his almost comical tendency to give up hard contact and HRs. How exactly do you fix that?
  8. Trading for Moustakas got in his head and he never shook it. I wouldn't be surprised if Shaw puts up another 3.0 fWAR season for somebody like the Marlins. But so it goes, he didn't necessarily make sense for a competitive Brewers club at that price.
  9. Why would the Mets trade a top prospect for us to take a one-year contract that is not even an overpay if Lowrie was a free agent again? Familia maybe, but Lowrie? Seems like wishful thinking. I would take Lowrie's contract for nothing and bet on the upside.
  10. How about 1B Roberto Ramos (Colorado)? He's done nothing but hit throughout the minor leagues, including last season when he hit .309/.400/.580/.980 with 30 HR and a .406 wOBA at AAA. Prospect evaluators thinks he is a Quad-A player, but heck, we have a black hole at 1B and maybe he's the next Russell Branyan (or, perhaps more aptly, Khris Davis)?
  11. Even aside from Pederson's righty mashing ways, it would also be cool to have a potential lockdown defensive alignment for late in games: C - Manny Pina (plus defender) 1B - C.J. Cron (-0.7 UZR/150 in career) 2B - Luis Urias (+8.0 UZR/150 in career) SS - Orlando Arcia (-2.7 UZR/150 in career; ok actually not that great, what the heck Orlando) 3B - ??? LF - Joc Pederson (+10.5 UZR/150 in career) CF - Lorenzo Cain (+10.0 UZR/150 in career) RF - Christian Yelich (+3.6 UZR/150 in career)
  12. The Dodgers are apparently making Pederson available in trades and have already spoken to the White Sox. He's an owed an estimated $8.5 million in the last year of team control. Really not sure what Pederson would cost since he is very good but also a clear platoon bat. Pederson crushes RHP and is an excellent defender in LF. He is also really bad against LHP. Meanwhile, Ryan Braun hits LHP quite well and is a declining defender in the outfield. What about moving Braun to a 1B/OF role, trading for Pederson, and signing CJ Cron for a couple million dollars to be the weak side of a platoon. (Alternatively, Pederson played about 20 games for the Dodgers at 1B last season, but the defensive metrics were very bad, albeit in a meaningless sample size.) Over the last two seasons, Pederson has a .376 wOBA (138 wRC+) vs RHP, and Cron has a .400 wOBA (156 wRC+) vs LHP. Pederson has a career +10.5 UZR/150 in LF (elite defense) and Cron has an average -0.7 UZR/150 at 1B. vs. RHP C - Manny Pina 1B - Ryan Braun 2B - Keston Hiura SS - Luis Urias/Orlando Arcia 3B - ??? LF - Joc Pederson CF - Lorenzo Cain RF - Christian Yelich vs. LHP C - Manny Pina 1B - C.J. Cron 2B - Keston Hiura SS - Luis Urias 3B - ??? LF - Ryan Braun CF - Lorenzo Cain RF - Christian Yelich
  13. Not sure why MLBTR is suggesting that getting a taker for Lowrie would require adding quality prospects like Smith. I would take Lowrie straightup, depending on what the medical reports say. One year deal with the upside of a 5.0 fWAR player, who can also be our everyday 3B? He's only making like double what tendering Travis Shaw would have cost
  14. Cain was visibly injured all through 2019 and still put up a passable season. He was an MVP candidate in 2018. I'd wait to see what he does this year before declaring him an albatross.
  15. Who spiked Wisconsin's drinking water with all this Mets Kool-Aid? We have to add prospects to Hader for that weak package of Mets nobodies and Casey McNeil McGehee 2.0 (non-prospect who had a hot 600 PA)?
  16. I wanted them to nab Kyle Seager even before his 2019 rebound. Sign me up! Very underrated player, though he is already 32.
  17. Propose: Josh Hader for Jonathan Villar *Trade Accepted*
  18. People are talking about "blowing up" the team because we let Shaw and Guerra go?? We made the playoffs last season and still have the True MVP in his prime. The only player non-tendered who even had positive fWAR last season was Guerra at a whopping +0.3 fWAR. We are better off just by slotting in replacement level players!
  19. Agreed, but I also think that justifiably or not Shaw was rattled by them bringing in Moustakas in 2018 and never really regained his confidence.
  20. [sarcasm]"...Claudia? ...Salad-dino? ...Nelson from The Simpsons? Who?"[/sarcasm]
  21. It was bad at the time and there was no hindsight because a lot of posters said it was bad when it happened. Yes, those who undervalue FIP/xFIP or overvalue draft picks. I don't think anyone was predicting that Claudio would revert to a 3.5 BB/9, which ended up being the problem.
  22. So they are cutting payroll then, right?? Cutting payroll, is cutting payroll. Instead in Yelich's prime you should be increasing it substantially. They arguably stretched the payroll to an unsustainable high for one season because the opportunities to sign Grandal and Moustakas came about late. Given the normal connotations of "cutting payroll" I don't think if's fair to say that's what they are doing if they open 2020 below that mark (even assuming that's what they are doing).
  23. I keep a running spreadsheet of the Brewers 26-man based on who is on the 40-man. We are currently rolling with Mark Mathias at 3B and David Freitas as the everyday 1B (Technically you could move Braun to 1B and let Gamel start in RF)
  24. Claudio had a poor 2019 season. That doesn't mean it was a bad trade at the time. Hindsight is 20/20...
