  1. Yeah, the thing about high school (legit) shortstops with a decent hit tool, is that almost by definition their ceiling is incredibly high.
  2. Seems like a smarter bet to take a guy who has great skills and can play SS while hoping he develops power, as opposed to taking an elite athlete while hoping he learns how to play baseball.
  3. You mean like Jungmann and Bradley? This strategy has only worked with Sheets and--to a lesser extent-- Kyle Peterson for us Well the goal is to draft a pitcher who is actually good (Jungmann did give us some valuable innings, to be fair)
  4. The reports on McClanahan and Kowar both sound fairly impressive.
  5. I know the mantra is best available player, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Brewers go after a college pitcher who can help while Cain and Yelich are still under contract. The top three left on the MLB draft board would all qualify.
  6. As long as St. Louis doesn't get Singer, I'll be happy
  7. Not quite as on point as "Beer," but Nolan "Gorman" would be a pretty solid pick for the Brewers too if he's still available.
  8. Are they? Seems like they are/were extremely good at manipulating the prospect consensus into ranking their prospects very highly, few of whom ever panned out.
  9. It's going to make it all the more daring for Stearns to take Beer.
  10. I was hoping for Rodriguez to the Brewers, but if some of these other guys keep falling...
  11. Murray seems like a reckless pick to me. Bubba Starling 2.0?
  12. I was briefly imagining a scenario where Kelenic fell unexpectedly and everyone on here got excited, only for him to be snatched by the Cardinals just in front of us.
  13. Corey Ray is finally putting things together and looks like a pretty solid prospect, it's not like it was Eric Arnett or something (or Medeiros/Gatewood )
  14. Based on numerous mocks, seems like a good bet then Kellenic goes here to the Mets with India off the board.
  15. I feel like the Brewers front office is among the most guarded in baseball. Have mock drafts gotten the Brewers right in recent years, without looking I don't think they have.
  16. Last post before the draft, Seth Beer is still my pick!
  17. I'm baffled by the persistent undervaluing of Thames on here. Since returning from Korea he basically has a full season at the point (160 G) and he's hit .248/.358/.531 with 38 HR. And he's signed to a team-friendly contract for 2-3 more years (cheaper than McHugh). Even with mediocre defense and even if you platoon him, that's an extremely valuable player. Big upgrade for Houston at 1B/DH
  18. I really like the report on Grayson Rodriguez, high school RHP linked to us in Jim Callis's latest mock. Power fastball with an "array of promising secondary pitches" and he's 6'5"
  19. He made the Fangraphs top 30 (barely) for Atlanta before the 2017 season, so there's at least some scouting precedent for him being a possible utility guy. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-32-prospects-atlanta-braves/ I don't see how he should get a call up before Orf though?
  20. Joint letter signed by Kelenic (R1) and Seth Beer (R2): "There is only one team for us."
  21. I suspect many of Archer's conflicting peripherals are an artifact of pitching in the AL East. I don't have the exact stats, but just eyeballing based on individual teams, the team ERAs in the AL East significantly underperform the team FIPs, while the team ERAs in the NL Central significantly overperform the team FIPs.
