  1. Cleveland makes a lot of sense as a team that could really us a RHB OF in the near term (as opposed to a pure prospect in a rebuild) and that has excess SP to trade. I don't totally understand why they would trade an ace pitcher like Salazar, and I'm not sure if Santana is enough of a return anyways (happy to be proved wrong), but something like Santana for Mike Clevinger would be nice enough.
  2. You're a Brewer! And you're a Brewer! You're all Brewers!
  3. The fact that the Brewers made a serious offer for Yelich and the fact that the trade went through were both broken elsewhere. Thus, I'm afraid to say, you must remain hatless. Thanks for the fun over the last few days though, whether any of it was true or not Alright HH, willing to chip in for your hat and pen now.
  4. If you trust fWAR and UZR, then over his career (3052 PA) Cain has been worth 5.0 fWAR per 162 games. I'd say that's worth a $16M/year contract!! He's already in his 30s so it might be an "overpay" by the end of the contract, but that's just how the free agency market works. It's certainly not an overpay based on market values.
  5. [sarcasm]So when is that Ellsbury trade finally going through?[/sarcasm]
  6. I would be stunned if they didn't add starting pitching. Well they already added a decent guy, Chacin. I guess the question is whether they sign one of the "big 4" free agents left (Darvis, Arreita, Lynn, Cobb), and since Darvish isn't coming here I hope the answer to the other three is no.
  7. Still don't think a big Cain contract is very wise, but a Yelich-Cain-Phillips defensive OF on days Braun sits would be fun.
  8. I don't think they're going to add a SP because I think for the first time in my living memory we have a competent GM who realizes a guy like Lance Lynn is not going to be good value. Yelich is a player who upgrades the team now in case the Brewers are competitive in 2018, and who also helps us 2-3 years from now when our top SP prospects (who were kept out of the trade package) start hitting their stride in the majors. 2020 Lineup C Pina 1B Braun 2B Hiura 3B Shaw SS Arcia LF Phillips CF Yelich RF Santana SP Nelson SP Hader SP Woodruff SP Burnes SP Ortiz SP Anderson SP Davies
  9. The fact that the Brewers made a serious offer for Yelich and the fact that the trade went through were both broken elsewhere. Thus, I'm afraid to say, you must remain hatless. Thanks for the fun over the last few days though, whether any of it was true or not
  10. Getting five years of a player like Yelich for just two top 100 prospects (#18 and #75) is incredible. I think we all are overly attached and thus overvalue prospects like Diaz or Harrison. Great deal. Marlins remain incompetent.
  11. He turns 32 in April and even at the end of a 4 year deal, he'll be younger than Mike Cameron was the day he put a Brewer uniform on the first time. Cain is a professional hitter and plus defender who can run. ,300 hitters who strike out under 100 times per year don't grow on trees. Yeah but Mike Cameron should be in the Hall of Fame. I don't see Cain as a wise investment and I wonder whether as many people on here would want him if he wasn't a former Brewer.
  12. Little interest in Cain from me. A speed-heavy skill set for a guy entering his mid-30s?
  13. He's overpaid but I would actually love to add Prado as a super utility guy.
  14. Realmuto too? Regardless of if you take on Chen's salary, you are probably adding two more premium prospects. He is 26, and on a minimum salary. I can't think of a motivation the marlins would have to move him, which means you are looking at a major overpay. At least Yelich has requested a trade, which takes away a little of the Marlins' leverage. Realmuto publicly requested a trade too, and while he's still cheap he's entering his arbitration years. It doesn't make rational sense for the Marlins to trade him, although it seems unlikely they are competitive by the time he's a FA, but never underestimate their willingness to unload quality players to save money (in this case Chen's remaining $50+M)
  15. How about we sweeten the prospect package and take on Wei-Yin Chen's full salary (overpaid but a serviceable rotation option when healthy) for Yelich and Realmuto?
  16. I would say no emphatically. Machado looked mediocre for most of last season. I would neither trade for him or give him $150M. I know how talented he is, he would be the best player on the Brewers, but Yelich could easily outperform him over the next 5 years.
  17. Some perspective: If you had a crystal ball and could guarantee that a prospect would turn into Yelich, that prospect would be #1 in all of baseball. Meanwhile Yelich is under team control for a full five seasons, only one less than a prospect.
  18. Which is more likely, Brinson becomes a 4+ WAR player, or Yelich (entering his age 26 season) takes another step forward and becomes a perennial MVP candidate? They're both plausible.
  19. Hiura and Harrison are the only two prospects that I would be really sad to see go. Brinson has great potential but I don't think he really has superstar potential.
  20. Have to say I was wrong about not wanting Yelich. I didn't realize he had 5 years left on a team-friendly contract. I would trade Brinson, no question. I'm actually a bit iffy on Brinson's value. My concern is it would take Brinson and a few of our other top-100 prospects who I don't want to part with.
  21. Thought HH said trade A is no longer happening? Missed that
  22. Yelich is very good but also overrated (and likely overpriced). Yes he's had three 4.5 fWAR seasons but that is in large part due to averaging 660+ PA (something it's hard to count on going forward). The Centerfield WAR positional adjustment is also broken, IMHO. Obviously he would be a huge add, but I'd much rather have Archer (or Kipnis and Salazar)
  23. Why are all these stories suddenly breaking (Darvish, Yelich), when the Brewers have been quiet all offseason? I suspect these are decoys leaked to the press for leverage in the real "Trade A" (which likely involves an AL team per HighHeat)
  24. Salazar/Kipnis would be a huge upgrade. 2017 xFIP leaders (100+ IP) 1. Kluber, 2.52 2. Sale, 2.65 3. Kershaw, 2.84 4. Severino, 3.04 5. Nelson, 3.15 6. McCullers, 3.17 7. Salazar, 3.21
