  1. Melvin does have a problem with the call ups. He knows he is in the minority, so He fights the unlimited roster by trying to get teams to have a set 30 players for each game. He believes that all season long teams play with a 25 man roster and it's absurd to have unlimited rosters. Basketball and football don't allow expanded rosters. I think his problem is now that he's in Milwaukee he has a budget to worry about and he can't afford to pay a bunch of guys to sit the bench for a month, get 1 ab a week, or pinch run. I do agree that it is silly that the roster size increases for the last month of the season. If anything, I think it should increase right after spring training since you have starters that can't go 7 innings yet and with rainouts you get multiple doubleheaders. I doubt theres a budget issue to worry about, its not like the september call ups are going to be earning big bucks or anything, its all a prorated amount, or 1/6th of the minimum salary of $507,500, or $85k for a full month, which some dont get. So they get a prorated amount of that prorated salary based on the number of days remaining in the season (which ends up being 34 going into October).
  2. Brauns slash for the month of august is .326/.576/.970 with 17 runs, 6 2B, 5 HR and 14 RBI's with 10 BB and 20 K's, all while the team went 11-15

  4. Wasnt it stated before that the brewers have had the fewest elbow procedures systemwide in the majors?
  5. But itd never be proven because of The Cardinal Way
  6. Thread is just going to turn into literally every other one, itll turn into a braun trade thread, discussing the insouts of his contract to make room for this guy in the OF
  7. Pittsburgh is very likely to make the playoffs for the third straight year. The Brewers have made the playoffs four times in 46 years. yeah, sure, you're right, but the point is to win the world series, which the Pirates haven't even won a series yet, just a 1-game play in, and 2 games after. Brewers have more wins in their last two playoff trips than the pirates have in theirs. My point is that the Pirates, with all their recent regular season success, have not pulled the trigger to bring in that game changing player like the Brewers have with CC and Greinke. Houston did this year getting Gomez/Fiers, KC has made moves in the off seasons... the biggest trade the Pirates made was getting an aging AJ Burnett as a salary dump for the Yankees a couple years ago.
  8. Rewind to 2008 and other teams would have been listing us as the examples. We'll see how long they sustain it and if they win anything. All everyone did by refuting the guys point by saying how we should get more prospects was prove his point. He was being a little facetious and taking it to the max to prove the point. Everyone knows a small market team needs to build through the draft to have cheap contracts, the difference is what to do once they hit on several at the same time. Many here say to trade them high and get more prospects, that's all he was saying he disagreed with. so far Pittsburgh hasnt won anything beyond a wild card playin game. Houston hasnt made the playoffs yet. Kansas City is the outlier, and if they make the world series again, they'll have definitely beaten the odds and some. Also, Pirates have yet to do any type of significant trade. They haven't traded any of their star prospects, they're holding everything TOO close to the chest.
  9. First complete game too, just amazing
  10. I'm not necessarily a replay guy, but if it had been in place in '08, that might be a different story. I was at that cc game, its a no hitter in my mind
  11. I mean, as sad as it was to lose Gomez... if this is a sign of whats to come, it was absolutely, unequivocally worth it, even knowings its just at AA ball.
  12. I have no idea... I mean I know he's old and all, and respect blahblahblah, but come on, its PAINFUL to listen to. Like, I can hear the pain in his voice as he tries to talk. I'd say he's basically got a week off, but since they're going to cleveland, I bet he calls those games. He needs some rest. and honey.
  13. I take that back, 4 of the 10 teams since 1969 have someone over 252 homers. those 4 teams are colorado, toronto, seattle, and kansas city
  14. so 3 of the 4 1969 expansion teams and every team since then havent had anyone over 252 HRs. that doesnt really surprise me for some reason.
  15. I got curious as to how many MLB franchises had a career HR leader with less HR than Milwaukee. In case you were wondering, it's the Rays, Marlins, Padres, Dbacks and Nats. One more for Braun and you can add the Mets to that list, as Strawberry hit 252 in his time with NYM. edit: forgot dbacks. rays - 1998 MArlins - 1993 DBacks - 1998 Nationals - 2004 (or does that include the Expos, too?) PAdres - 1969 so of the teams without a player who has hit 252 home runs, 4 of the five have only been around for less than 20 years... just to emphasize how much the brewers have struggled to keep a power hitter in town
  16. His voice is shot, he wasnt downplaying the feat
  17. KKKKKKKRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
  18. maybe you just shouldnt have brought up religion in the 13th post when no one else had prior. Just because you have a belief/opinion doesnt mean you have to share it, especially when you admit to knowing you're in the minority.
  19. Bad guy? No. Flawed as a manager? Clearly. Under Roenicke, the Brewers had their two worst months in franchise history which is amazing considering some of the rosters they've had through the years, and a collapse of historic proportions. Whether it was the atmosphere in his clubhouse, his laid back California demeanor and acceptance of repeated boneheaded plays, or whatever, players did not respond to him when things got a bit tight. In fact, the players under him tied themselves in knots pressing harder. Brewers also had their best months in franchise history under RRR
  20. He played and coached for the dodgers
  21. I disagree in so many ways, but I hope any sorts of discussion like this can be moved to the non-baseball thread. Agreed.
