  1. The Royals have a really weird roster.
  2. Sogard is on a guaranteed deal? I did not know this. Thought he had to make the team out of ST.
  3. Stearns on adding anymore: Obviously, there is GM speak and all that jazz but this sounds about right for where the Brewers are. They don't want to financially hamstring themselves for future moves down the road. Signing Jake Arrieta would do just that most likely. Cobb, maybe. Lynn... no thanks anyways. More interesting tidbit from Stearns: He reads rumors? Interesting. Also, is he calling out one of our very own? Even more interesting.
  4. Eh, Villar has to get on base (and get starts) to use that speed so overall don't really care plus "speed" is a little overrated in todays game (IMO) in terms of base stealing just have to be a good baserunner. Plus Yelich and Cain help make up for any "speed" lost if/when Villar goes. Old legs die fast. Walker would join that group of Cain, Sogard, Braun, Thames of oldies as well as Santana, Aguilar, Pina, and whoever our backup catcher is that doesn't run well.
  5. I just checked the NBA standings for the first time in like three weeks. Whoa. 8th place? This team is too talented to be doing this crap. A team with the Greek Freak has no business possibly missing the playoffs. Terrible.
  6. I've wanted Walker pretty much this entire offseason but I do find another negative with this type of signing. We lose speed on the base paths which we do not have a ton of. But maybe it is made up of the fact that he is so consistently on base.
  7. Capuano Hangs Them Up Brewers Stats: Record: 45-49 ERA: 4.33 WHIP: 1.373
  8. Yeah, you could sign Arrietta to his demands and our playoff chances have increased for this year. But our playoff chances have more than likely decreased for 2020 and 2021. Why do you say this?
  9. lol, and just created our short stop problem unless... [sarcasm]OF, 1B, 2B, SS - ryan braun[/sarcasm] Braun or Perez can fit that role. I suppose Segura could just play both SS and 2B.
  10. Getting paid 162 times a year?
  11. Arcia & Broxton for Jean Segura or Broxton for Robinson Cano Either way, I just solved our second base problems. Man, I should be GM.
  12. Yeah, kind of a crazy thought. I suppose it's possible that Cobb has conditionally accepted an offer, but is waiting to see if there are any big-name pitching injuries that would increase his market. But not a lot in this offseason has made sense, so I guess this is just throwing another odd log on fire. This would be one of the craziest conditions for a possible contract that I can think of. I know you're just thinking of scenarios but I really hope Stearns and co. are not doing this. Either he wants to be with us or against us at some point here. Piss or get off the pot already.
  13. I don’t want to give up Suter. Am I actually saying that? Okay, back on point.. Suter is going to be very valuable to us in that pen and with his presence.
  14. Why is Williams too good again? Had a good k-rate in AA but other numbers are just alright. And he was equal to the age of the league so it’s not like he was playing up. He was a great story a year ago and I’m hoping he’s a stud but it might be kind of early to anoint him too good to use his options.
  15. What is the budget limit then if you know? Spending money on the Sogards, Gallardos, Mileys of the world is a really Milwaukee Bucks way to do things. Apples to oranges. Brewers spent money to build depth. Very minimal money to do it too. You just don’t like the players and want to see the youth play first. It just may not happen that way.
  16. Sure but signing a Morton or Miley doesn't preclude you from relying on young controllable players. When Jeremy Jeffress was starting a game in a playoff race last September, it's because the Brewers ran out of youth and control. To add on, youth and control are very nice things but it doesn't always get you where you need to go either. Say we don't sign any vets and we rely on all the youth we have with control and they burn out right away. Now, where do you go? With guys pitching fewer and fewer innings every year, it is good that we are looking at other outside options to come in and get us through the 900 or so inning we are going to need from our starting pitching.
  17. And they might go to those guys either to start the season or after one or both of Gallardo/Miley flame out like a lot are predicting. He's building depth and creating opportunities for cheap production from guys who have done it before. If either of those guys come through, it is a win for the Milwaukee Brewers. They have shown to have a short leash with some of these guys and those two will most likely be on that short leash if they earn the opportunity on this team. I don't think this has to be a one or the other situation.
  18. In that case, we still need to add a pitcher because Chacin hasn't been very good.
  19. I know Guerra had a disappointing season last year but I don't know why he can't come back to be a very serviceable pitcher for us. Not every pitcher takes the same path to the majors, we should all realize that by now. Junior is a great bounce-back candidate and as much as ST stats are meaningless, he's throwing the ball well after doing well in Winter Ball. If he can resemble anything like he was in 2016, he would be a huge bump to this rotation. And this very well what Stearns could be thinking and why we haven't gone crazy on one of the free agents out there right now.
  20. If Miley does jump those other guys, doesn't that tell us a bit about these other guys we are clamoring for to be in our rotation?
  21. The whole point of the post wasn't to see who you would take over Miley. I don't really care to be honest with you because we all have different opinions of what a #4 and #5 starter really is in this league. Too messy to even dive into. It was to show that most rotation have turds in it and they can still win. There are just so many factors involved in winning. Heck, no one saw us have a top 5-10 starting staff last season and hey, look what occurred. This whole the "sky is falling" bit is just not the case for our situation at all.
  22. Maybe we have our pitching coach guru in Johnson like the Cards had for a while. Maybe we get to be that frustration organization for others for a while. We definitely are due.
  23. It's sad to me that you feel the need to make these sort of comments towards people who have a different line of thinking than yourself. Nationals: -Tanner Roark made 30 starts for the Nationals and posted a mid 4 era with a 1.3+ WHIP. -Joe Ross and Edwin Jackson combined for 26 starts for the Nationals over a 5 ERA and a 1.4+ WHIP. Twins: -Kyle Gibson made 29 starts for the Twins with an ERA above 5 and a 1.5+ WHIP. -Bartolo Colon and Hector Santiago made a combined 29 starts for the Twins to post a mid 5 ERA and a 1.4+ WHIP. Yankees: -Marishiro Tanaka made 30 starts and posted a high 4 ERA which a WHIP above 1.3 -They also had a collection of other pitchers, including Jamie Garcia, who was just flat out not good. Cubs: -Lester and Lackey a season ago were not great. High 4 ERA's and WHIPS around 1.3. They were considered their #1 and #3 pitchers going into the season. Wade Miley(31) and Gallardo(32) were not good the past two seasons but they have shown throughout their careers to be good pitchers. If Johnson feels as though there is a correction to be had with them and he can get them more towards their career stat lines, they will do just fine for us. Another reason it would be great for these guys to do well is that it shoves our depth of pitchers down a peg. It allows us to bring up quality guys if/when injuries do happen. Another poster stated that the Astros go in knowing they will use 9-10 starters during the season. Hopefully, that is something Stearns brought over with him because we will need it most likely. 1. Anderson 2. Davies 3. Chacin 4. Guerra 5. Miley and then a mix of Woodruff, Gallardo, Suter, Burnes, Nelson(when healthy), Wilkerson all ready to go if/when injury strikes to our rotation or some guy just flat out stinks. It's a solid list of 10-11 pitchers ready to go. And we haven't even got to roster cutdown day yet where there may be an arm or two out there for the pickings.
  24. I really hope Stearns isn't looking at ST results as a way to fill in our roster. They can be considered, sure. But it should be a very small metric used.
