  1. Market might not be right for the trade maybe? Or he isn't worth what some of us feel he is? Could be a lot of factors.
  2. Great read. Thanks (as usual!) for linking I was just about to post that; very glad you beat me to it. With all respect to the many fine regular commentators here, and to the excellent Adam McCalvy, Breen is writing the smartest, most interesting Brewers commentary I can remember reading. The BP Milwaukee site in general is a great addition to Brewers journalism, and some other guys there have written some good things, but Breen stands out even among that group. Offense taken.
  3. Makes you wonder why he wasn't included in the Krod deal? Or why he wasn't the player targeted. Maybe the Tigers aren't willing to move him yet or the Brewers have no interest? Seems like someone the Brewers should've been interested in looking through the stat lines.
  4. That's a great article, thanks for posting. I would imagine many of us (including myself), are overestimating the trade value of Lucroy Another case as to why he might need to paired with another player like Smith or Peralta.
  5. Agreed In regards to Santana. I'm just speculating. Read lots of Houston articles prior to the trade that suggested that players like Chris Carter and other players like him were wearing out their welcome in Houston because of the low BA/high strikeouts approach. And Domingo Santana was one of those mentioned. My speculation is that he was a throw-in. Again, hope I'm wrong, reading too much into it. I probably am At any rate, Phillips was clearly the center-piece of the trade. Comparing apples to oranges with these two players you mention. -Chris Carter is 29 years old that over the course of his MLB career (2000 PA's), he has not learned how to not strikeout nor hit for a higher average. -Domingo Santana is 23 with not even a full season in the majors (less than 200 PA's), and showed signs of a very good player in the MLB. Yes his average was on the low end but his OBP was not. It would be very silly to give up on such a player or to trade him for a bag of peanuts.
  6. A power arm and another left handed pitcher. Seems to be a trend going on there. And I like it!
  7. After getting this return for a 28 year old that really doesn't play any position well, I would sure hope to expect that if we were to trade Santana who is 23 and has shown some real pop in the majors and plays quality defense that we would receive more in return. I'm not sure trading him right now is a great move. Traded twice by the same guy in less than a year screams red flags to other teams. If he's not in our OF in the majors than put him in AAA and let his numbers inflate in Colorado.
  8. Yeah, the MLB roster is going to be brutal. Cubs and Astros pre 2015 brutal. I actually don't know if it will be as brutal as people are playing it out to be. We haven't even seen the finished product yet. We could have a brand new team that who knows what they can do. I'm not going to be pessimistic in December. Or January/February/March for that matter. People always fear change but maybe in this instance, it'll work. What we've had on the team the last few years (including Lucroy) hasn't worked.
  9. If Braun only brings back Cron, then what the heck are we doing? Might as well just play Braun at 1B if that's the case.
  10. I was thinking more along the lines of a trade for Freddie Freeman myself.
  11. Do we really have that better of a farm than the Pirates do? I would have thought they were pretty even or maybe even a slight edge to Pittsburgh.
  12. This deal also might be a sign that they'll play Lucroy more at 1B next year. Which will lose him a ton of value going forward. As a catcher, his value is super high. As a 1B, he is probably average to maybe above average. Seems like a bad move when trying to obtain the best pieces you can for a player.
  13. So Santana is not in the long term plans because Stearns traded him away but Maverick is a future all-star that he was happy to trade away? Not sure you can have it both ways. Not saying you will be wrong, just doesn't compute. Also a "brainthrust" sounds like it might hurt!
  14. Or chuckle when one of the players we received is a stud and Rogers is back in AAA. Or never remember this because none of the players are worth a darn. See what I did there? No one knows what this trade will bring. But what we can say is Stearns wants athletes and he obtained another one. Not only that but he got a higher upside pitcher for our organization to work with. People wanted a rebuild and this is what it looks like. Everyone is on the table. Even guys we really didn't expect to trade.
  15. Cross Rogers off the list.
  16. Don't take it personal man or you won't enjoy this board. It might've been a bad example of a trade but don't let that get in the way of posting more.
  17. I think they should wait out a guy like Justin Morneau and take a cheap 1 year shot with a guy like that. If he can be had for cheap, stays healthy and produces, then he is the guy to be had at the deadline meaning we can ship him for a piece or two. As much as Rogers can man 1st base and nothing really changes with the 2016 Brewers, adding a guy that can bring you value back can do more for this franchise.
  18. Could they be a match with us? Rays Get: C-Lucroy LF- Davis RP- Smith Brewers Get: SP- Blake Snell (#2 Rays prospect): Top end of the rotation pitcher. Ready later this year or next. SS- Adrian Rondon (#7 Rays prospect) Young. Really young international signing. ETA 2019 1B- Casey Gillaspie (#10 Rays prospect) Another possible impact bat at a position of need. ETA 2017
  19. Yeah, this is probably the statement that cements it. We just do not have the pitcher needed in order to do this trade. You're undervaluing Seager/Urias quite a bit. Yeah, I probably am. The Dodgers could probably just go forward and play Seager and Urias and those are their "free agent" pickups this offseason. Might have some growing pains but they could also just take the league by storm and the Dodgers save themselves some money for other areas.
  20. Yeah, this is probably the statement that cements it. We just do not have the pitcher needed in order to do this trade.
  21. I think there is a big difference in what you are saying and what a lot of people on this board are saying. People who are happy we took a shot on this guy are not getting their hopes up like you might be imagining but more so just happy we took a shot on a guy who plays a position of need for the Brewers, that obviously at one point, there was a gleam of hope that he could be a good player. And if somehow this guy figures it out, he's now figuring it out in a Brewers or Sky Sox uniform. It is really that simple.
