  1. I used to be this way but I do find myself DVR'ing games and starting them later and catching up to the game by the 6th-8th inning and then watching it live. Saves me a little time when I have things going on.
  2. Huge for what, at best a 75 win team? He's not getting any younger and skills will diminish rapidly every day over 30. Pair that with concussions and now is the time to move him if we want to get a good return. Even waiting 1/2 way through the season could be a bust if he's not hitting well again (I know what his last couple months stats were).
  3. God I hope not.... That is a bad return in my eyes. Smith & Davis have good trade value. On the relief market today, Smith has ton of value. Khris Davis is older but more valuable than Arcia. Only reason to trade Davis is to make room for Santana....why bring in Arcia then? Smith/Davis should be a nice haul not add 1 more player to get a good SP prospect & underachieving OF who is oft injuried I'm not huge on Arcia. He was just a player discussed by others. Plus it'd be cool to have brothers on the team. I could see Arcia being a quality 4th OF in the future. I guess I figured Berrios is as close to a sure thing as there is out there any only being 21 you have to give up a bit to get him. That was my rationale anyways.
  4. It has been tough to watch a guy like Diamond Stone play well against a Badgers team that could use him.
  5. My wife and I may make the journey to MKE as well to be first timers.
  6. And RBI's are so hard to predict. It could be 60 but it could also be 80+
  7. Smith/Davis and someone else(Daives?- big park could help him) for Berrios/Arcia return.
  8. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/nationals-blue-jays-to-swap-drew-storen-ben-revere.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook One less team to trade Davis to (Nationals) or even more of an opening in Toronto?
  9. Why do people keep including Perez? Not bashing on him but there's a reason he's not on the 40 man roster anymore. Lots of guys for him to pass up to be even considered.
  10. Originally from Wisconsin but moved to New Mexico for a job last year and now I am in Iowa. Already miss the weather and golfing in January.
  11. They have a simple job. Vote the players who are most deserving in. That includes Griffey. If they didn't vote for him, they didn't do their jobs correctly. The rest is a bunch of hooey.
  12. Maryville is a dump but it's hard not to go to the Brewers park when going. I really enjoyed where the Cubs now play at Sloan Park in Mesa, AZ and where the Padres play in Peoria, AZ. Very nice areas with a lot of place to eat (drink), and shop.
  13. I want Stallone to win an Oscar badly. Rocky movies are my favorites!
  14. Wouldn't it make more sense to have them back to back then? Increase your odds of popping one out of the park with guys on base? Maybe I'm mis-thinking this one but if you put one towards the bottom of the order, that's where there are guys who don't get on base as much as the top of your order.
  15. You should care to at least somewhat get along here. Again, I've supported your other views quite a bit because I like to hear different thinking but some of the time it feels as though you write things for shock value. Even if Villar wasn't on the MLB team, do you think he would be released? It just doesn't seem like it would be a very smart move for any team to do. Maybe you meant released down to the AAA team but it didn't read that way to me. And I didn't mean to convince you to have him in your lineup, just that Stearns wouldn't give up on a guy he just traded a solid pitcher for.
  16. This is the stuff people will be calling you out about. It's okay to have different opinions but really? They are going to flat out release a 24 year old switch hitting utility player who can actually somewhat hit?
  17. They could've very easily walked off set so there is a chance.
  18. Walsh will supplant Scooter and get on base at a .400 clip Pair that with Villar getting on base 35% of the time and we might have something cooking!
  19. Our starting shortstop carries a career .301 OBP and our starting second basemen has a career .318... I think Carter will fit in fine. At least he'll stroke one to the seats often and set off some fireworks.
  20. I honestly would've loved to hear people's better options that a guy like Chris Carter. Production isn't going to fall off very much from Lind to him, he's cheaper and we've obtained multiples pieces from Lind and Rogers. How is this not a great way to do business?
  21. Cecchini, Villar, Gennett, Peterson, Flores, Walsh, Wilkins, Nieuwenhuis are all on the 40 man roster and could be left handed options in the lineup. I think you're being dramatic to the situation considering it is January and there hasn't even been spring training game. Either way, there might be 2-3 guys in the lineup vs. right handed pitching next season.
  22. The only team that would trade for either of them would be looking for short term help. So age doesn't really figure onto it. Ramirez got us something because he always starts slow and has a record of finishing well. Carter has a reputation of not being very good period. Knowing a player usually starts slow and has monster second halves is bound to get you more than someone who usually blows but had a hot half season. If he produces this season and into next things change. I just don't think flipping him for anything of value will happen this July. That's not a bad thing. We need someone there for at least one season anyway and he can build much more value by being good for a couple seasons than he ever could in half of one season 1. Because of the reason you stated, age is one of the reasons they are comparable. Both were/are lightning in a bottle acquisitions that aren't necessarily looked as longterm solutions. The only difference was that ARam got us what he got us KNOWING he could ONLY be for the remainder of the one season and Carter still has the potential to help someone for a couple additional seasons as well. 2. I think you're overrating where Ramirez was in his career and/or underestimating what Carter has shown: [pre]2013-2015 Overall ----------------- Ramirez: .328/.434/.762 1273 AB, 44 HR, 88 BB Carter: .312/.459/.771 1404 AB, 90 HR, 183 BB 2013-2015 Pre All-Star ---------------------- Ramirez: .321/.431/.752 699 AB, 26 HR, 49 BB Carter: .303/.438/.741 848 AB, 52 HR, 109 BB 2013-2015 Post All-Star ----------------------- Ramirez: .335/.437/.772 574 AB, 18 HR, 39 BB Carter: .326/.491/.817 556 AB, 38 HR, 74 BB[/pre] So while I'm not saying Carter's not without his warts, I think it's perfectly reasonable to compare him to Ramirez and suggest he could even bring a better return than ARam did. Throw in the fact that if a team does trade for Carter they get him for more than just the rest of the season if they so choose meaning they can also play him more on their team or flip him for a return as well.
  23. How he is doing at the break will affect his trade value. If he's on a hot streak and somehow managing a 900 OPS, teams are not going to make offers like he's a career 900 OPS guy, but the will likely offer more than if he is at last year's 734. Even if he is just at his career averages, there's likely to be some contender willing to offer a legit prospect. A-Ram brought one back last year, so Carter can too. You aren't seriously comparing Ramirez to Carter are you? I am not saying he cannot get hot for a couple months and get us something at the trade deadline. I just think he is the type that gets you a bag of balls than a legit prospect. I think if he had a couple good months his return would be that of a salary dump. Which is probably more than his value is now but not something that can actually help us down the road. I guess since the term lottery ticket is in vogue he could get us that. But the odds of getting anyone who could sniff the majors is literally about the same as a lottery ticket. I think he could gain trade value in a year or two but not in half a season. i just wouldn't look at him bringing anything back next July even if he has a good first half. Nothing wrong with that. We get our stop gap to get us to someone good and maybe he builds some value to get us something extra a couple years from now. Ramirez was 37 and on his last legs and told everyone he was retiring after the season. Also he was OPS'ing .725, was often injured and playing very suspect defense. He returned us a player that might be a valuable piece to our bullpen. You really don't think that in a half season that a 29 year old guy who swats home runs like he's playing in the 1990's can't net us a valuable piece moving forward? I think that's very nearsighted thinking.
  24. It's just hard to imagine moving a pitcher for an area where we actually have depth. Deshields would be nice to add to the mix but giving up an arm, an arm we need, is just not a great move on my part.
  25. You wouldn't let 26 year old Jungmann go for a 23 year old CF with speed, and enough on base skills (53 BB as a rookie) to be your leadoff hitter for the next 5 years? I'd make that deal in a heartbeat. Jungmann is at best a number 3 and more likely a number 4 starter. I just don't get the thinking that every deal has to be a veteran for multiple prospects with questionable futures. Where did I say that Jungmann should be traded for prospects with questionable futures? I was just stating that it would take Deshields and another prospect for me to pull the trigger on that deal. It's not like Deshields has lit the world on fire in his minor league career and he was just pretty good last season. I get that he is young as well and can improve, but there is also the chance that this is all he is and maybe even declines. While you downgrade Jungmann to a 3-4 pitcher, I think he could be a 2 type pitcher. He was a first round pick for a reason and sometimes these guys take until 25-26 or ever later to figure it out. I don't think that is something really to hard to wrap your head around.
