  1. I pull out my Saturn every summer for a week and play each of my 20 games once before putting it away for the year. Good memories.
  2. I think I'd get in trouble with anybody that I know that reads this board if I posted my letter. So I'll pass for now. I would seriously have to think about what I'd write, though. Cool topic!
  3. we pretty much have 2 or 3 choices here in AZ: Johnsonville, Store Brand, or Deli/Meat Dept. I like to put my brats simmering in beer and onions for a while and then put them on the grill for a few minutes per side. Of course, I also like grilling them completely and then simmering them in beer and onions. And then there are the times that I do both ways simultaneously. Three brats on the grill, three in the beer/onion simmer bath. And then I switch them. Of course, I can never remember which one I like better. But the few times that I do remember that, "hey, I like this one better!" I can't remember if it was grill first then bath, or bath first, then grill. Drives me nuts that I can't get it straight. Probably has something to do with either (a) paying too much attention to the ball game, (b) too much beer drank while the brats were cooking, or © both a & b.
  4. MJLiveRock is on the right track. Many HOF caliber players were so good at the game that it drives them nuts trying to teach "imperfect" players who are no where close to their talent. Eddie Murray (Orioles 1b dude, not the former Lions kicker) was that way when he was the hitting coach for the Indians many years back. He ended up quitting because he would go home every night so frustrated that the players couldn't do things that were automatic for him (i.e. picking up the pitch based on the ball rotation--from the bench.) Some people just get frustrated because they don't understand why another person can't do something that comes so easy for them. The "want to get out of the limelight" argument has wheels, too, I think. I know that I'd want a break from all that publicity--as a teacher, summer time is a great time to be an "anonymous" person, rather than being a "celebrity" all the time with students and their hugging, saying hi, asking questions, etc. Being "on" all the time gets to be a drag after a while.
  5. I can't even begin to imagine what they will be charging for playoff and World Series tickets for those prime $2500 seats. $10k? 20k? GULP! AJAY, I agree. I noticed this during the Mets series, too. At Shea, when they played the Brewers (or anybody, probably) and they made a big comeback/rally late in the game, they would crank that music from those outfield speakers so loud to rattle the opponents. And it sure seemed to work. I got no such vibe this weekend at CitiField when watching on TV/listening on radio. It seemed like a very quiet, sterile park. On topic, 20 home runs were the most for a 4-game series to open a park. I believe MLB Tonight had a graphic up about this and then Matty V. or somebody made a quick comment that the 3-game record was something . . and then I stopped listening. But they did have a separate record. It will be interesting when they demolish the old building (which I STILL have a hard time believing that they're going to do. Can't they leave SOMETHING up as a museum-piece?) I would expect wind currents will change. But maybe it'll be for the worse. Who knows? I'm sure they did plenty of testing but tests are sometimes wrong.
  6. Yeah, "Jackass" is a pretty stupid show. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I still don't know why the Klement's people don't have the Sausage Races televised. I know that they sometimes show the races coming out of a commercial break but they should sponsor the minute of air time like Budweiser does the 7th inning stretch in Chicago. Otherwise, I don't mind the sausage races at all. I really don't like that other teams (PITT, WASH, probably others that I don't know about) have copied it, more or less.
  7. as a music teacher, I would say definitely check each and every key to make sure it works properly (i.e. not sticking keys or knocking sounds due to the hammer and arms being mis-aligned). Tuning is relatively easy and cheap, depending on who you know. Pedals aren't all that important for a beginner but you may want to check to make sure they work properly. The pictures look great. Much better condition than my classroom piano ever was.
  8. that's what I thought, DHonks. Pretty good game, thus far. Gallardo getting out of trouble is nice, but Santana sounds like he's throwing peas. And, yes, it seems like CitiField is playing like Petco, thus far. Probably need to wait until it gets warmer out to see how it really plays, although I know they've said that it's pretty nice in NY this weekend.
  9. not here in AZ. I'm still getting the "program not available in your area" black screen. Or is it on a different channel for 669?
  10. yep, the game just went, "buh-bye" on me. Sigh. Oh, well. Uecker and Powell Provus it is, I guess.
  11. uh, the most obvious one is Bob Betts, if you're going to Brewers employees. Man, that guy was great. And the beer vendor back in the 80s that would bellow out, "Pabst, MillerMillerLite, Old Styyyyyllllllleeeeeee!" would have to be in there. (that's not a typo: he said it as one word--MillerMillerLite)
  12. bah! You stole my thunder with your P.S. That's what I was going to ask you. Very enjoyable read and a great experience for you. That'd be pretty cool to sit next to somebody like that the whole game.
  13. at the same time, though, so many of us enjoy "The Office." Now, we have 2 shows of "The Office"--one set in a business office and another set in a government office. We're basically getting a double dose of "The Office" now. As long as it stays pretty funny, I've got nothing to complain about. Well, except for my aforementioned Amy Poehler dislike. By the way, Tom (is that his name? Aziz Ansari's character) was absolutely fantastic in this episode.
  14. this is kind of a Brett Favre situation. I'll believe it when I see it. It's kind of like Keith Jackson retiring about 10 years ago. But he's still doing games anyways.
  15. finally watched it tonight on hulu. It was okay. I laughed a few times but nothing like "The Office." I will keep watching in hopes that it gets better. Only problem I had with it is that Amy Poehler is just too annoying for my tastes. She's Michael Scott on caffeine. I hope I don't get burned out by her.
  16. I can't believe we won a game, and won it in one of those "man, can't we ever just win a game without any late inning opposition dramatics/easy win" situations, and then there's only 50 posts in the IGT. Wow. I thought it was a good game to watch. Hall's shot was off the glove of Dickerson in left; couldn't tell why he didn't catch it--Cincy camera work not on the ball tonight. Cameron pounded the ball all night and Weeks did his job. Also nice to see Kendall get a big hit. And correct me if I'm wrong, but did the pitching staff walk only one guy?
  17. Pursue the Pennant for me. I played that game since it's inception in 1984 or so. I know that I replayed the 1987 season. And then, the PITCH League, our gaming league, exists because of PTP since 1989. We don't use the board games any more, not since about 2001. It just became too difficult to play the games and tabulate all the statistics. I loved doing it--the stats--but it just became too weary and took too long to complete a season. Now we use Diamond Mind Baseball computer simulation, which is based on the PTP game. We love it and can play our season with ease. We do still order a card set, from Triple Play Baseball, to have tangible "cards" to use during play. It helps to keep records of players with limitations (i.e. at-bats vs. Left-handed pitchers, etc.) The only "problem" is our league members are starting to have families and it pushes back the seasons more and more. For instance, right now we are playing our "PITCH League Tournament" to determine our champion. Unfortunately, it's for the 2008 season. Hopefully, I'll be changing my signature again in a few weeks.
  18. they showed a stat during pre-game, I believe, that showed how scoring and walks are WAY up throughout the majors thus far. It's one week of twenty-six. Things will balance out. The hitters are always way ahead of the pitchers every April, and this year they had an extra week of hitting to prepare. I don't think Castro has anything to do with it. Or else, they might as well be going after every pitching coach in the league.
  19. somebody predicted that Prince would get to hit a meaningless homer in the ninth of a 7-1 game. This is his chance, although it's only 6-1. Go Brewers!
  20. kind of sad to see some fans booing Laynce Nix. Yeah, he's a former Brewer. But just barely. Kind of classless if you ask me. Still only down two, but Cordero likely in will make it tough.
  21. why would you buy a gallon of water, though? Just finish a gallon of milk a couple of days before the game, save the carton and fill it with water. But, otherwise, you are right on the money. This is exactly what I do.
  22. kind of depressing to see Gallardo have the walk problems that Mr. Suppan had last night. Add to the fact that it ALL came after 2 outs and a nice 6-1 "win" turns into a loss. And, yeah, I was real thrilled with Directv turning off the game and going to Best Darn Sports show in the middle of the bottom of the 9th.
  23. Cheetos and Mt. Dew. Or, even better, Cheetos and Mt. Dew and Quarter Pounders w/Cheese
  24. holy cow! The MLB audio is actually in sync with the video on the television! Did they fix this finally? If so, hooray! No more pausing the tivo until the Uecker catches up some 20-30 seconds later than real time!
  25. I am resolving to sit and watch the post-game show--win or lose--for as many Brewer broadcasts as I can. I just need to be able to simmer down and get the blood pressure down a bit before I come here to post or read other people's posts. Plus, there's tons of unintentional comedy, as I found out tonight during their on-field demo following the game. Not that I have a blood pressure problem, but I do get pretty worked up during tight close games and I just need to simmer down and enjoy the moments, win or lose. Now in blowouts (especially on the losing side) I may just put it on in the background while I surf the net, but at least I'm not blowing it off completely.
