  1. Jamie, again the wife and I were talking about that, too. So many guys have hit their 3000 strikeout milestone in the last 20 years (since Carlton and Ryan beat Walter Johnson's then-record in the '80s). Amazing stuff.
  2. I shudder to think how it'll play out nearer September when it's gut-check time.ugh, I still have nightmarish thoughts about last September and what it was like around here at times.
  3. some of that would be changing leagues and the hitters aren't accustomed to seeing his arsenal. It will change, you are right, as he is a lifetime innings eater but not much else except for the late 1990s.
  4. the wife and I were talking today about how cool it would be for Smoltz, Glavine, and Maddux to all retire in the same season so they could, potentially, all go into the HOF at the same time. Please note that I said "potentially." I don't think it would happen, but it'd be pretty neat.
  5. I half expected to see Counsell put on the DL after seeing that picture. Awesome!
  6. I'll take Bill Hall's occasional sweet stroke for his pretty regularly good defense at third base. After 3/4 of a year watching Braun (and Counselino the other 1/4) last year, it's kind of nice to have a more dependable glove at the hot corner again. (Koskie was good in 2006 for 1/3 of the year). Bill Hall will get hot. C'mon, Mother's Day is a bit over 2 weeks away.
  7. quite the shock to hear the XM guys talk about the Brewers win on the car ride home with a post-script of, "Afterward, Gross was traded to Tampa Bay." I nearly slammed the brakes on when I heard it. I wanted Gabe to succeed here but it wasn't meant to be, I guess. I mean, he succeeded here, don't get me wrong, but I thought maybe this would be his place and his time to shine for a full season when we first got him. Just never happened. Oh, well. He was decent in the corner OF spots and shaky in CF, but the guy had a gun for an arm, in my opinion. His eye was pretty good for getting walks. He'll be missed. The Curse of #14 continues for the Brewers, I guess (but I don't count Dave Nilsson completely. He was darn good when healthy.)
  8. No, less extra outs for the pitchers means less pitches thrown, not necessarily less innings
  9. boy, oh, boy. I go to lunch duty and the score is 4-3. I come back 45 minutes later and it's 8-7! At least the bats showed up today!
  10. wow! we've go 9 hits in 5 innings! What in Wild World of Sports is a'goin' on around here?
  11. Can't watch the game today from work (except for Gameday or something) AND I forgot to program the tivo before I left, too! So, as it goes in my life, this will likely be a 2-hit CG shutout win for Parra with Prince going yard 3 times and the Crew wins 15-0 or something along those lines. Hope I'm right! Go Brewers!
  12. how the heck he got out of that jumbled mess is beyond me! Let's go to work, boys!
  13. well, looking forward to completing my day off from work with some 'dogs on the grill and a Brewer win. Trying to decide on a beer or not, since I go back to work tomorrow again. Wainwright has held us in check throughout his career. Here's to maybe "figuring things out" a bit tonight. Hopefully, it's the good Carlos on the mound and the bats come to life.
  14. I'm too upset to go back and re-read, but, as much as I was opposed to using Gagne for the fourth day in a row (I even mentioned it to my wife on the wife home from church this morning, "I doubt Gagne will be available for a fourth day in a row, especially with the 'high' pitch counts, excluding yesterday."), the two pitches that were hit for home runs were actually pretty good pitches. Encarnacion hits a changeup that is starting to dive low in the zone (I'll admit, it hung a bit, but still a good pitch) and Encarnacion didn't really put a great swing on the ball but managed to get some lift. Bako hits what looks like a low inside curveball/slider combo that had great location, to me. Eh, a winning road trip I will take ANY time I can. C'mon, I haven't been able to expect a road sweep in 4 years, why start now? Have a good day, Brewer fans! Welcome home the team tomorrow!
  15. Don't know if anybody else caught this, but I just heard about it on XM radio this morning. Holden Cushner (sp?) was going through Saturday highlights in their XM preview show and he played a clip from the Brewers/Reds game from yesterday. It had Brennaman calling a pitch a "ball" and his co-hort in the booth (not sure who it was but it may have been Jeff Brantley, since he does Reds games) interjected with "strike." Next thing you know, you hear Marty cussing out the other guy about stepping on his toes and "challenging" him and his calls. Marty was a bit muffled because he, obviously, had pushed his cough button but still came out over the air on the other guys microphone. Did anybody else catch this? Made me kind of giggle that an announcer is that worried about his ego because maybe he got a call wrong. He could have laughed it off and made a joke of it, which I would have expected because Marty is actually pretty funny. But no, he burned a bridge instead.
  16. I think it's been more than 3 years. I've got recordings of Uecker singing it at Wrigley from the early 2000s. He's done it every year, pretty much. But, yeah, he did, change his lyrics to try to appease Cubs fans.
  17. I'll agree with the "thrown too many pitches" stance. I'm guessing he's "out" for tomorrow's game. Hoping that it doesn't matter.
  18. it doesn't sound all that serious but reading the quotes makes me think of Eric Lindros (NHL player for those that don't know) and his propensity for sitting out with the smallest of injuries rather than "toughing it out" like most NHL players. I'm not saying Sheets is a wuss. I think he is very tough. But with his injury history, I sense that the training staff took him out of tonight's game with the slightest of injuries to ensure that he will be okay and not "taking a game off due to a hangnail," kind of a thing. I hope Benny will be fine. And judging by the post-game stuff, I'd guess he'll be fine--miss one start at the most.
  19. WOOHOO!!! There's still just a "hair" over 90% of the season remaining!!!!
  20. the season is just a "hair" under 10% complete. WHERE DOES THE TIME GO???
  21. I turned it on in the 13th inning as we were going to bed (10 pm PDT), watched a few innings, dozed on and off, and woke up at 11:45 pm PDT to realize they were headed to the 18th. Needless to say, I rolled over and went to sleep for good, even though I wanted to watch the game. I couldn't believe it this morning watching the highlights. I'd have been up another hour plus if I stayed up. Today would've been murder at work. I'm glad I went to bed.
  22. I have never seen the Brewers replay aired on DTV here in Arizona. I would imagine if FSN-WI is your "local FOX affiliate" that you would get the replays. My "local FOX affiliate" is FSN-AZ so I don't get any replays but D-Backs replays.
  23. hawing, yeah, I think you've got it right. If you wish to get this person an mlb.tv subscription, he'd have to "order" it himself I believe. I wonder if you contacted mlb.tv (mlb.com?) about this they'd be able to help you. You can't be the only person that wants to order a "gift subscription" of their service.
  24. I won't be there tomorrow night, but I will be at Chili's in Kingman, AZ tomorrow night drinking some beers and watching the bottom line on ESPN for Brewers updates. So, I'm doing my best to join you folks.
  25. this may be a "silly" question, but could both players' struggles be because of the contract negotiations? perhaps things are kind of stressful with the talks and they are pressing on the field and in their minds. I know I've read many interviews with players saying that they wished they'd get the negotiations done because it's affecting their play. Or players stating after they signed the deal that they wished they got it done during the off-season so they could have concentrated better during the season. Just a thought.
