  1. how on earth could the Twins get away with playing their regular season games in their new downtown ballpark and then be allowed to play their post-season games in the Metrodome? What kind of deal is that? I think that is pretty poor, if it's true. The Twins should have to play with what they've got, just like the rest of the teams. Otherwise, why don't they just move the entire post-season to Southern California or Florida (or any nice-weather city) like they do for the Super Bowl? As for the roof on Miller, I've only been there 10 times (maybe not even that many) and I appreciate having it, too. I'm not traveling all the way up from Arizona to see a rainout(s). I do remember being a bit uncomfortable this summer seeing the Brewers-Astros in the upper deck (Estrada grand slam night) but it was nothing some cold glasses of water/lemonaid/Pepsi/beer couldn't help with. I wonder if they could install some electric fans or something to circulate more air.
  2. yeah, I saw this on ESPN this afternoon. Just nasty! Thank goodness for the walls and the other safety devices. Dale Sr. might still be alive if Daytona had these safety precautions back then (as well as MANY other drivers).
  3. ugh, game starts at 10 am here in AZ. After a night of rum & cokes and watching a movie or two, it's going to be brutal. Then, a Final Four party at BW3 in the afternoon/evening. This is going to be a long (but fun) Saturday. I'm not looking forward to Sunday already.
  4. anybody help out with what inning Uecker and Powell were discussing the batteries for the pocket doppler? Jeez, was this even this game? I don't remember which IGT I was reading--thought it was this one. I don't feel like listening to the archives without having a clue to which game Uecker was hilarious (as opposed to just really funny)
  5. my sister-in-law (Hi, Suzanne, you lurker!) said something in an email that it appeared that the guy ran through the glass door/window as if on a "dare" that he could/couldn't do it. Not sure if this happened in front of her or behind her. But that's what she said. I hated not going online or anything all day, but it was worth it coming home after a day at school and downing some rum & cokes (sorry, outta beer--besides, hitting BW3 tomorrow for Final Four action will bring enough beer) and watching the game. Great stuff! edit: by the way, don't know how many others noticed (or were even in the park) but Robb Edwards totally butchered the starting lineup by announcing "Batting 2nd, the center fielder, #33, Gabe Kaplan. #33 Kaplan" I almost bust a gut laughing!
  6. I'm almost positive LaRussa has done that before with the Cardinals.
  7. I don't know about HDTV yet as I agree with someone else that I'd need to compare it to my current television, side-by-side, to see the difference. However, a few weeks ago I was stuck at a Best Buy for a good 2 hours waiting for a friend to pick me up so I wasted time looking and trying out everything. The things about HDTV at Best Buy is that although the signal you are watching in the store is probably HD, the cabling they use on their demos are not HDMI; they just plug everything in via coax cable! So it looks goods, but it could be so much better in the store. I did learn the difference between regular DVD and Blu-ray, though. You really can see the difference. I was impressed. Doesn't mean I'm replacing my current DVD library any time soon, though.
  8. maybe it's because I was wearing my tuxedo for the past two nights for our big school musical, but I just snickered and giggled out loud when I read about the "casual get-togethers" vs. the (apparently) more formal FanFests. Can't wait to see Russ in his jacket and tie!
  9. am I not cool enough because I don't read blogs? I barely have enough time to read the sites that I visit regularly as it is! I've thought about starting a blog regarding our Diamond Mind baseball league but I figured who would want to read about imaginary games and imaginary interviews conducted by some guys you have never heard of.
  10. just a couple of issues ago, the ESPN magazine had a small Bartman article. In it, the great RYNE SANDBERG even admitted that the Cubs and their fans needed to drop and (get this) even HE would have gone for the ball if he was in those seats. Can you imagine if it really was Sandberg instead of Mr. Bartman? Wow! It just blows my mind.
  11. I still have my Sidd Finch issue with Dwight Gooden on the cover of their baseball preview issue. Excellent read. I still remember being simply mesmerized as a 12-year old reading it.
  12. I'm actually very surprised that it wasn't a BOC. and the next item is pretty much the same thing. Maybe the April Fool's joke is to just run the same product all day in Woot-off format (sell 200 of them, mark it "sold out" and then put up another 200 of them)
  13. if this was built last year, the Brewers would strand that runner at 2nd.
  14. Ryan Braun has played flawless perfect defense during the 2008 season. Aside from the definite sarcastic slant of the above statement, hard to believe that not one ball was hit out to him the entire game, unless I missed something. The most running in the field that he had was probably "backing up" Gwynn in the 4th inning in case he missed the catch and it took some screwy bounce off the ivy.
  15. I heard them say on XM yesterday that due to the Boston-Oakland series being bumped to Japan and earlier than other games, they asked many teams if they could take one game off of a later series and play it on Sunday night. With the stadium set to be finished on time, the Nationals responded the quickest and were "awarded" the game. Or something like that.
  16. The only real time I boo is when I am driving. I'll boo slow drivers or bad moves by drivers. Yeah, I'm the only one that hears them and it's more for fun than out of frustration or anything. But it makes me feel better to boo some dumb driver who's just asking to be in an accident. The slow driver boo is more from frustration that all the lanes of traffic are going so slow due to construction or somebody not paying attention at a red light that just turned green.
  17. as for the Willie Hayes in CF issue, I have no problem with it except for the deep drive by the Yankee hitter in the 6th inning that Hayes scales the wall to rob him of a homer. On the swing, the ball appears to be pulled to right or right-centerfield, but Hayes goes back over his right shoulder to scale the wall. So, for that hitter he was either playing right field or the Indians had an extreme shift with Cerrano playing right on the RF line and Hayes in right field (or it's another error with the movie). Hayes appears to catch the ball at about the bullpen area or so. But again went back to his right to scale the wall. I also love the fat guy that comes out of the stands by the dugout twice and the beer vendor cheering for the Indians after the final out. Not sure which is funnier though--the fact that the beer vendor is still selling beer in the 9th inning (especially since the Indians had a near riot in the 70s with 10-Cent Beer Night) or that no fans are trying to steal one from the completely oblivious vendor.
  18. I wonder if they are going to be playing it before every game now or just the retro games. Heck, are they even still doing retro Sundays/Fridays/Somedays? I don't remember hearing/reading about it.
  19. YES! It's about time. I had wondered why they didn't at least have 175 online when I signed up for online (finally) last month.
  20. that's what I mean, sgt. I remember the same video with two significantly different audio tracks. There may have been more for all we know. For Brewer fans, this is our JFK film conspiracy.
  21. well, the season is finally upon us. Unfortunately, I have to do the "go to work and totally ignore the internet/television/radio/other blabber mouth co-workers until I get home" dance again. And then I get to repeat it on Friday! Good times! Hopefully, Directv won't be screwing me like last year. Although, thus far, the sports pack channels are working and the game is on my guide. Plus, ESPN2 is my backup plan for the other tuner.
  22. I know that I stated this last year in that long lost thread, but I remember two versions of the video. One with Bob Betts reading the script and one with the "younger sounding" guy that was probably played this weekend. (obviously, duh, since Betts is 6 feet under--I'm such a moron sometimes). I distinctly remember Mr. Betts saying "Slobber" but the other guy saying "Slopper." So does my wife. So we may never really know which one it "truly" is. Maybe it was originally "Slobber" and after Betts died, they re-recorded it and changed it to "slopper"? Who knows? when I see Mr. Betts at the pearly gates someday, I'll have to ask him.
  23. oh, man, 19. If the fans boo Overbay and/or Jenkins, I think I may have to disown the fans for a good week. Can I boo the fans, then?
  24. does that old thread still exist? I couldn't find it when I "searched".
  25. I can't say how I use mine, since mine is still being in the process of being shipped, etc. However, the thing that I am most excited about is the fact that I can watch my television from wherever I want with an internet connection. Say, I'm in Tucamcari, NM at a hotel for the night. As long as I'm at a hotel with an internet connection, I can watch my Phoenix television stations, the Brewer game on the Extra Innings package or even something recorded on my tivo that is in my house all the way IN MY HOTEL ROOM on my laptop. I can't wait! No more crappy hotel television programming. To answer your question, this means that, yes, you should be able to watch something on your desktop computer instead of having to sit in front of the actual television.
