  1. also could've been windy out and the baggy jersey/pants + wind = a "fat" look.
  2. same as always. Our Diamond Mind baseball league tournament logo. Sometimes I feel like changing it to reflect all 30 of our team's logos but that's too much work for me (okay not really--I'm just lazy to change it).
  3. kids at school are always eating ramen raw (uncooked) for a snack and/or their lunch time meal. And they'll sprinkle the seasoning packet on top of the raw noodles and eat them that way.
  4. jason, nice job getting Saturn in your 2nd picture.
  5. yeah, they're made by the same company, too.
  6. I'm kind of partial to this one, but that's me: Take me out to the ballgame, Take me out with the crowd, Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack, I don't care if I ever get back, So, let's root, root, root for the home team, If they don't win it's a shame. For it's one, two, three strikes you're out at the old ballgame.
  7. Cajun Chicken flavor ramen noodles. Can't find them in stores too often but they make them.
  8. thermalnoise = Branyan's mom? or is he Russell, himself, talking in the 3rd person?
  9. maybe the Pirates should sign him. Heck, it "worked" for Milwaukee in '75 and '76.
  10. I thought about posting about the whole Greatest Highlight thing, too. Especially since they pretty much gave Berman the liberty to add his own "play-by-play." So the whole thing turns into the "Greatest Highlight that Chris Berman can Announce" contest instead. I wish they would have left all the original play-by-play calls in there. Would've been a lot better. Again, it's mostly because they're reaching for stuff to do that they have to have "contests" like this. Why didn't they just take all 100 nominated plays and put them on Sportsnation and have people log in and rank them 1-100 or 1-20 or something and just pick the "winner" that way? Or make a "basketball" bracket, a "football" bracket, a "baseball" bracket, and an "other sports" bracket? The whole thing is dumb, in my opinion.
  11. I'm starting to think this is going to turn into the Jets vs. the Sharks. Brian will be wearing his black leather jacket and pimp sunglasses, snapping his fingers so Russ and 19 can follow him as they jazz jump and electric slide across the pavement to the rally cry of "3TO!" West Side Story II: The Branyan Debate
  12. I may be the only one, but this thread seems to be turning into a grade-school classroom vote. You know, when somebody raises there hand for a vote and most of the class follows suit, only to change their mind when some other kid decides to vote differently. This thread started very, very, very pro Snows in October but has a sudden surge of the National Tour. I'm not saying this just because I voted for Snows in October (I could care less--I won last year's contest, if it even was a contest.) I'm just reading the thread and since I see this every day in my classroom that's what it felt like. I know that there was no "changing their minds" in this thread (that I noticed) but it did seem like the "follow the leader" method of voting. I guess what I'm saying is maybe a poll would have been better, since you can do those on Yuku. It's probably just me being pissy that I can't see the eclipse.
  13. shouldn't this be in the Trading Post forum?
  14. by the way, I won't be seeing it since it's been raining all afternoon and will be most of the evening. Yes, folks, winter is definitely back in NW Arizona.
  15. yeah, his "black-listing" is pretty evident, but can you blame the owners? It would be a complete public-relations disaster for your club to sign him. I know he still plays/hits at an outstanding rate and still has that killer eye at the plate for his age, but it's kind of like Rickey Henderson, who, I think, could have easily played in the majors until even today but teams pretty much "black-listed" him, not because of drugs or attitude, but because of his age. I'm surprised the same thing didn't happen to Julio Franco.
  16. Lunar eclipse story from history Here's something that I found that gives a little revelation to the past. Not a big surprise really. I guess I was talking about even further back than this--like 10 AD or 355 BC or something.
  17. yeah, should be pretty neat. And in prime time, too. It's not as cool as a solar eclipse but cool in it's own way. Gotta wonder how people from a many ages ago reacted for eclipses. If they even truly knew what it meant. I know there's some stuff out there about their thinking it was something to do with their gods but who knows. I would think a lunar eclipse would freak them out even more, since so many people back then worshiped the sun and not the moon. They probably wondered what was up.
  18. I would venture a guess that he'll have one of those "out" clauses if he's not on the MLB team by such-and-such date and/or if another MLB club contacts him for a big-league job. Otherwise, I'm kinda 50-50 on it. I like Branyan as a cult hero/icon but as a player he's not that good, 3TO or not.
  19. I read Simmons and TMQ every week (in season). page 2 is just supposed to be somewhat like ESPN's version of the Onion.
  20. you should read some of the comments to the article on ESPN.com. There are obviously many others that were not amused by it and/or didn't get it that it was a joke.
  21. if it's on Page 2, it's a joke. End of story. EVERYTHING on that page is written satirical, for the most part. I would agree that it's rankings to show you that rankings are meaningless in the pre-season. I'll have to check it out later on just to see.
  22. I'm a sucker for a-capella music (Nylons, Rockapella, etc.) and for movie scores (not necessarily soundtracks)
  23. Diamond Mind is real all the way.
  24. I miss the "smell" of County Stadium. You know the smell--years and years of spilled beer, cooked sausages, the green grass. Everything. I know that I can still smell it in my mind. The half-dozen to ten or so times I've been able to go to Miller Park (remember, I live in AZ so I don't get up there for games very often) I can start to smell it, but it's just not the same. Yeah, I remember the bleachers being better at County Stadium, too. I loved that they were on the field level. The barrel and slide? Yeah, I wish they had it, too, but where would they put it? They wouldn't totally scrap the Bernie's Dugout and yellow slide, I think. So the barrel would have to go somewhere else. And in order to do that, they'd have to eliminate some seating. Not to mention that it would look so tiny in relation to the size of the ballpark. (it actually fit in at County Stadium since it was a smaller sized ballpark (height). I want it too, but at what cost? I always thought those little mezzanine boxes that hung under the press box were like little egg cartons and I couldn't believe that people sat in them. They always looked unsafe to me as a kid. I also miss the netting behind home plate and watching foul balls scoot up there and, occasionally, getting stuck under the press box, only to become dislodged by another foul ball later in the game.
  25. Fantasy Snowblowing? It would be easy pickings this year. I'd just have to choose 5 of you guys and I'd easily win, according to the "Winter is Back" thread!
