  1. Today I filled in for an owner in an auction league who was traveling back from Hawaii. Holy cow, it kind of takes the fun out of things when half the league is taking the stars & scrubs approach! Every player in the first two hours was way overpriced. the guy I filled in for asked if I want to go halfsies with him for the season. I’m contemplating it but, if I do, ill be more prepared for next season and adjust accordingly, knowing ahead of time that I won’t be getting any of the big guns unless I want to do stars and scrubs, too.
  2. Well, that was an ugly half. gonna have to hit some shots or it’s “goodnight, Irene”
  3. I think 87 is a pretty good guess, so that will be my official guess. I do believe there is potential for 91, though. And, worst case, I think we'd be at 79 wins.
  4. Looks interesting. Is this free? Is it just for bragging rights?
  5. I was going off what Jeff said on the air yesterday and this tweet from earlier. maybe they had some technical issues and scrapped it. Or it was always planned as a reds feed and someone was misinformed. like I said, not the end of the world. Just disappointing.
  6. Nice job, DIRECTV And MLB.tv on my Roku super excited all day to watch a game finally and it’s the Reds broadcast only. Even 669 on DIRECTV (the Wisconsin channel) has the Reds feed. Grrr. on my phone, I can at least get brewers radio. oh well. Still, a bit disappointed
  7. Surprised that there was no Oscars thread this year. Not that I have seen many of the nominated films (I haven’t; only a few). I will admit that it’s difficult listening to Nick Offerman as the announcer and impatiently waiting for some sort of Ron Swanson-type of commentary.
  8. my first thought was Carlos Gomez before he bulked up a bit.
  9. Just call it Duncan (I was originally gonna say Whamm-o but they never made yo-yos)
  10. I don’t understand. OP writes a several paragraph post about the whole injuries in practice and then, when someone calls him out about it being typical throughout all of baseball, the OP brings out the “I guess you guys don’t have any sense of humor” token? i may not be the prototypical poster here on the site, so maybe this is just me. But usually when I would want to post a funny take on things, I wouldn’t use six lengthy paragraphs to tell said joke.
  11. There is Brewers baseball today!!!! The days are getting better!
  12. I'm actually waiting for a defensive player to just say, "Screw it" and just level a quarterback who is clearly now a RUNNER. Especially when many quarterbacks now do a semi-fake dive and run past the defender who pulled up and gains an extra 5-10 yards (or way more, in some cases).
  13. It’s been in the teens here iN NW Arizona the last few mornings. Everybody else is saying how freezing it is. It’s been chilly. But that’s about it. Winter coat? Yep. Zipped up? Nah. i do understand, though. You spend enough time in a climate and your body adapts. So people here think 40° is cold. I think it’s great. I guess I have too many memories of being in that -40° wind chill crap that these Arizona “winters” still are mild as heck. (similarly, summers are blisteringly hot, but it’s so dry that it’s really not all that bad to me. The humidity kills me so I’m glad we only get that during monsoon season.) EDIT: Have to share . . . we are under a winter weather advisory for Sunday/Monday. The school district is already mulling over cancelling school. Seriously. We'll probably get an inch if we're lucky. It definitely will not be another Snowmageddon (we got 13" in one 12-hour period back in 2019! It was amazing!)
  14. There was this tiny part of me that thought, "well, maybe Ueck didn't tell him about the cancer! And now Robin is upset that he wasn't in the inner circle for that information." And then I said, "yeah, right . . . "
  15. I also find it strange that I haven't seen any comment from Robin Yount on Uecker's passing. Did I just miss it?
  16. I gotta be honest. This season has been great! I say this because I have hardly watched any of the games. Those few times I did tune in, they lost. Badly. So now the wife and I decided no more watching the games and they’ve done really well! Coincidence? Yeah, probably. But less stress and more “free time” for us not watching the games! I suppose when it comes to tournament time, I’ll tune in just on principle.
  17. Ha! That didn't take long! Didn't they just make those "Aaron Judge-proof" moves of the wall just a couple of years ago? Too funny!
  18. Redraft leagues can be awesome if you have the same type of guys you describe. I’m the commissioner of a league that’s been going for almost 30 years with many of the current members being there from the start. Great camaraderie and friendships!!! It CAN happen in redraft leagues too. The dynasty league I’m in (ironically, it’s the one started up on the LambeauLeap site years ago) just doesn’t have the same camaraderie to me, mostly because everyone in the league is basically just an anonymous name on the internet, we never really just talk about anything, rule changes/improvements are only made with some ridiculous tooth-pulling, and sometimes it’s just not fun. But I still enjoy the building of my franchise and retooling when necessary. Fantasy football is just awesome, though.
  19. Based on the book? I read that in grade school!
  20. Yup, but I still find it amusing that they took the maximum number of games to get that streak snapped.
  21. He did but decided he missed it and wanted one more playoff run. I guess he will be done done after the post-season.
  22. That is your opinion, of course, but to me, it's not close to a true statement. Brian has gone nuts plenty of times for Brewers home runs. These dingers by the Yankees are just that much more astounding due to playoffs, 8th inning, come-from-behind, against an absolute beast of a dominant closer. I can think of several Ryan Braun bombs that BA sounded like he was ready to jump out of the press box to join the team on the field. Regardless, if you feel that this was more nuts than normal . . . well, you might be right, but don't say that he was never nuts for the Brewers.
  23. Keep in mind that Costas is a Yankee fan but trying to keep it as neutral as he can. Which he didn't do very well on that triple compared to the Stanton HR, for example.
  24. I seriously believe that in the next decade or so MLB will copy the NBA and have a mid-season tournament just for kicks. It would be best-of-one all the way til the end. And it would be a cash cow. Especially if they play the whole tournament over one week, in various locations like the WBC. Heck, they could rotate the “title game” so every MLB city gets to host it once every 30 years. Okay, maybe this wouldn’t happen. But I wouldn’t be shocked at all. What does this have to do with this thread? Well, maybe this would be our best chance to “win it all.” LOL
  25. Huh, I literally though that I was that guy. It happened at least five times in my younger/collegiate years.
