  1. well, Braun is scratched for tonight with an "upper respiratory infection." I had an "upper respiratory infection" in February and it wasn't pleasant. It was basically pneumonia. Knocked me out for the count for several days. Plus, you can die from it. So, yeah, karma can certainly be nasty if it wanted to be.
  2. hmm, me thinks it won't be a "piece of cake." Niemann, Hellickson, and Price go for the Rays--that's tough just right there. And then the Twins have turned on their Twin-ness and gone 14-2 in June thus far. Sorry, this is no cake walk. But .500 or better is still expected.
  3. I thought that Harry Doyle recaps the post-season on his radio show at the beginning of Major League 2 during the opening credits. I only saw it once, though, and it was a while ago so my memory might be a bit fuzzy on the details.
  4. You do if you are lucky enough to have a wife that is as big a baseball nut as you are. I am so lucky! Thanks hammytime!!!!!
  5. I thought the same thing as I watched this. Or it looked like one of the Saturday Night Live spoofs. I kept waiting for a laugh track. Either way, it should be interesting to see. I wouldn't say I'm looking forward to seeing it, and there is absolutely no way that I will pay to see it in a theater. But off Netflix or something? Sure, why not.
  6. Pacific time can be equally annoying. It sounds good in theory, but I get off work at 5pm and the Brewers game starts right away. I'd like a couple of hours to decompress, maybe run a few errands or go to the gym. (Before anyone suggests DVR/joining the game late...it just isn't the same. Klosterman wrote an article this week for Grantland about this - I have to watch games live or it isn't fun.) Plus you have the 9am/10am starts during football season. I think we all can agree that Central time is the best time. now, see, this is where I disagree. Pacific time for sports--especially football (college or pro)--is strictly awesome. Get up, turn on football. And then football is over by 5 pm for an entire evening to do whatever. Sure there are some evening games that you might want to watch, but they are over by 9 pm so you do get to see the entire game no questions asked, rather than the internal debate with your conscience about needing to go to bed. As for baseball, I can understand if you have a 9-to-5 job about the 5 pm starts but I would rather see the end of the game than the beginning so a game ending at 8 pm still gives me joy or woe and then 2 hours to celebrate/get over it before bed rather than hitting the sack the second the game is over. That said, having lived there for 25 years . . . Central time is still the best. Pacific Time is a VERY close second. Mountain time . . . who gives a you know what. And Eastern time completely blows.
  7. funny how baseball works sometimes . . . Brewers lose 3 of 4 to the Cubs, and still managed to GAIN a half game in the standings! Oh, and another balk off tonight, this time the Braves win on a DJ Carrasco balk.
  8. I don't think he threw his cutter back then either, but I could be wrong. That pitch is filthy.
  9. that is pretty amazing. Doubtful that would happen with the majority of other owners in any other sport. It sounds like he soaked it all in. Great experience!
  10. LaRussa coming out to "argue" three times tonight kind of let me "see the light" about the Cards. I've always respected them as a team (except in '82, and '85 and '87 out of spite) due to good coaching. But tonight was fairly ridiculous. I understand the "standing up for your players" logic but TLR came out of the dugout not in a storming "what are you talking about, ya' blind ump?" kind of way, but rather a whiny "that's not fair" way.
  11. Mark A. just needs to buy some powerball tickets, win, and give it all to Prince. I'm half serious.
  12. I decided to resurrect this thread as I had a cancer-related question. My dad is going in for prostate surgery on Monday down in Phoenix. I believe it's the robotic surgery so the hospital stay should be "minimal." But my question is about transporting him home. It's a 3-hour car ride from the hospital to our town and I'll be driving my wife, my mom and my dad down to PHX and then back after the surgery. Is this safe for my dad to be sitting for 3 hours a day or two after he had surgery on his prostate? It seems to me that he'd be rather uncomfortable, especially with a catheter to travel with as well. Anybody have any experience with traveling with someone who just had prostate surgery? I know that I'm grasping for answers here but I couldn't find much about this online. Not sure if I should just try to call the hospital (who would I even ask to talk to?)
  13. I don't think anybody is arguing that his defense doesn't stink. I think the poster that you quoted meant that Betancourt has embarrassed at SS to the point of 3 errors every other game and about 30-40 errors total like so many people (posters and professional writers) made it sound like he was going to do. (of course, this is hyperbole as nobody actually said that.) Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I had read his comment.
  14. yeah, I knew that about Howell and Money, but I put them on my list since half the time they were each "on the bench."
  15. Funny. I expected them to turn around their season with sweeping the Brewers, not before. That's the way it seems to happen. Rockies in '09. Giants in '10.
  16. Just was curious . . . our bench of Rob Picciolo, Ned Yost, Ed Romero, Roy Howell, Marshall Edwards, Bob Skube, Mark Brouhard, and Don Money in '82 wasn't all that impressive either. Someone else said the same type of thing with the Cards, Phils and Yanks. You just won't really be getting those "better" bench guys until the trading deadline, if at all.
  17. His BABIP is .098. That's epic. It's like a perfect storm of suck for Colvin this season. Why must they suck so much? STL and CIN are both 4-1 against the Cubs. as long as we, too, can whip up on the Cubs I won't complain.
  18. a bit off topic but did anyone notice how hollow sounding (for lack of a better word) the bat on ball sound is on the broadcast every time we visit Cincinnati? It doesn't sound like hitting a ball with a wood bat. There is no "crack" sound. Instead, it sounds like you are hitting one of those plastic pitching machine balls and has more of a "slap" sound. It bugs me.
  19. whoever is in love with Foxtrax and has it on the screen with every pitch of the Brewers' games this season, it's annoying and distracting. No other team's broadcast has it up for anywhere near as often. They'll use it for individual pitches on replay and that's it. It bugs me. The only good thing is when they show how a pitcher is pitching a batter late in an at-bat by showing all pitches thrown at once.
  20. well, I was pretty pessimistic about May and it turned out to be a decent month, so I'll go the same route again. 13-14 record for the month of June sounds about right.
  21. No more students, no more crooks, No more writing in text books! School's out for summer! YEAH! (of course, my teacher recert. courses start on June 1st so "bah!" for that .. . . )
  22. my initial thought was Van Halen "1984" but that was before the 70s album cover thing on the bottom of the photo. So, never mind.
  23. I'm guessing that it got better since the pilot, as that's the only episode that I watched. It had it's "moments" but I didn't think it was all that funny overall. Glad you are enjoying it, though.
  24. I'm hoping for 6-3 or better, but it will probably be more of a 5-4 or 4-5 homestand. A 3-9 or worse record on the homestand would be pathetic.
  25. I'm not very big into wrestling at all. It's not a sport--it's just entertainment. But I did enjoy watching Randy and his charisma. It was fun to watch him wrestle, too. I may have to break out my Wrestlemania ROM for my SNES emulator tonight in tribute. RIP Mr. Savage. I wish I had a Slim Jim to snap into right now.
