  1. well, I was ready to pack it in five minutes into the 2nd half; started reading my paper and paying less attention to the game. Glad they didn't pack it in like I did. That was a fun game to watch.
  2. love the missing middle mustache due to "friction"!! too funny!
  3. I like that a lot of the St. Louis concepts from the 50s appear to have been used in their new stadium. Not exactly, but some very close similarities.
  4. I'm pretty sure Portland lost their AAA farm team because they are getting an MLS team instead to play in their park. I've read that many Portland baseball fans are not happy with the decision.
  5. just under 4 million for Marcum is a steal, assuming he stays healthy. And there's no reason why he shouldn't be. I really thought that he'd get more. Maybe this was one of those, "Okay, I'll sign now and let's work hard on an extension this spring/summer."
  6. maybe he requested that he didn't want one. Always possible, I guess.
  7. A couple of things: 1) Would the NFL consider Springsteen again in 2014 when the SB is in New Jersey? Seems a bit soon to have a repeat act but he's, obviously, a shoo-in for most obvious performer for that SB. 2) If not Springsteen, what performing group is willingly going to WANT to perform in New Jersey, where it could, potentially be freezing cold, snowing/sleeting, and not really all that much fun. Not to mention the dangers of slipping and falling while "dancing" or moving around a wet, slick, frozen stage? 3) What about "Up With People"? It worked for most of the first 10 or so Super Bowls.
  8. Page 2 has a whole article about why it's hard to sing.[/url] Please note that I wrote my first post in this topic over an hour ago and did not know of this Page 2 article.
  9. Back in college, one of my vocal coaches told us that "The Star Spangled Banner" is one of the toughest songs to sing in the history of music because of the vocal range that is required of it. If you start too low, the high parts completely lose any bravado and "umph" (please note, not a technical term) creating a pretty boring song that should be exciting. If you start to high, your voice will likely crack or worse on the really high parts (see Carl Lewis.) In order to perform the song in public, he said, one really needs to research the song with your voice to find the right key to sing it in. As for the idiots in Chicago (or anywhere, really) that yell or scream or whatever during the anthem, I wouldn't have a problem with it if they were actually singing along. It would probably reek with a little bit of patriotism if they did that. Watch if you want to get some goosebumps.
  10. third base and behind the plate are the shade sides.
  11. I've steered clear of this thread except for checking it out once a day to read the updated posts. It kind of surprised me that nobody has jumped on this "small sample" as well. Based on all the arguing that he hit .315 in his career as a PH and members were at each other's throats, it seemed, about how the size of the sample makes it meaningless. So doesn't an 0-for-25 small sample also get people fired up that it has nothing to do with anything? BTW, I'm totally a small sample size follower, but I'm only posting this as I thought it was so interesting that nobody made comment about this sample size in reverse. Carry on.
  12. they just used the Jedi Mind tricks (good term, by the way) to help establish that Holly was slowly realizing herself that Michael is her soul mate, just like he said. To be honest, I didn't really laugh at any of the shows from last night--Community, Office, Parks and Rec. They just weren't all that funny, to me. Kind of bummed me out.
  13. I finally got my tube at Christmas time with my print inside. I'll be framing it and matting it at some time as well. Okay, my wife will probably do it (she's good at framing stuff.)
  14. considering it's the end of January and you're only on post 125 or so in this thread, I'd think you'd all be doing cartwheels over the winter you've had. Of course, it IS only January 29th. You still have the annual State Basketball Tournament Winter Storm to go at the minimum.
  15. where are the tickets for the opposing team? Are they all prime seats? Why not put them in the upper deck? After all, they are the visiting team.
  16. I like the plan, TracyThom, but to be honest, you really can't appreciate the HOF in just one day. A true baseball fan would need to spend about 3 days there to take it ALL in.
  17. I loved Ron's grill in the office. A full size Weber grill. Just crack the window and he's a-grilling! Awesome!
  18. I was pleasantly surprised with Gervais' cameo, as well. I'm not one for spoilers so I had no idea that this was coming.
  19. I got a phone message from my ticket rep today. I was sooooo sure that I won something, but, alas, he just needed an address. Darn it.
  20. I don't think I ever knew that about the old Orange Bowl site. For those that have been to Maryvale for Spring Training, this Miami situation sounds just like what Maryvale would be like if they put Chase Field there. No easy highway access; in the middle of a "semi-questionable" area of town; nothing to do there; hardly any parking. Just a mess. I, personally, love Maryvale and have no issue with it for the many times I've been there. But I couldn't imagine putting a big-league park there.
  21. Has he dragged their World Series trophies around the parking lot yet? That seemed to have worked for Mr. Costanza.
  22. With Billy Martin, this is not hard to imagine at all. He was the kind of guy that would intimidate you on the field and if he was still not satisfied, he'd find out what hotel you were staying at and continue the "conversation" at the hotel bar later that night. The guy was never afraid of repercussions of getting into fights with people, including in bars.
  23. Yes, but Escobar was traded by the Braves because of his attitude and the way he was treating teammates in the clubhouse. Bobby Cox hated the guy.
  24. after thinking about it, I do remember one thing about Parks & Rec last night that I didn't like. The fact that they are now airing episodes in January/February that should have aired in the fall when a "Pawnee Harvest Festival" would have made a whole heck of a lot more sense.
