  1. Gomez is one of the elite players in all of baseball. It would take 5/100 to even start the conversation, and I don't think I'd be comfortable with those numbers. It's too hard to predict what kind of player he would be then with diminished speed and defense. Let's just enjoy getting one great deal and see where things lead.
  2. To bad for Tyler, but I'm really excited for Fiers. Hopefully he can be a shot in the arm for the pen, because they need it right now.
  3. Morris has a 97 wRC+ in the PCL. He's the third worst first baseman in that league. He's not a major league player and probably never will be. The only thing he's an answer for is 'how can the brewers strike out more and walk less.' Morales is only going to want a single year most likely. 8-10 million pro rated sounds fair and if thee money is there i would make the deal. http://www.fangraphs.com/minorleaders.aspx?pos=1b&stats=bat&lg=4&qual=y&type=1&season=2014&team=0&players=0&sort=18,d
  4. TC07 what do you think of tonights picks? It certainly looks like they've gone after upside and didn't shy away from some risk.
  5. Wow Gatewood at 41. He feel big time didn't he. I remember hearing the brewers connected to him at #12. Is he going to be an overslot guy? Hopefully they save a little pool money with Medeiros.
  6. I love that lineup. It's going look even better when we get back to the NL and shift ARam to third and Reynolds to first.
  7. Matt Carpenter was never listed on a top 100 list despite .400+ OBP two years straight in AA and AAA, which blows anything Scooter ever did out of the water Matt Adams was ranked #69 on the Baseball Prospectus list in 2012 after hitting 300/357/566 with 32HR as a 22 year old in AA. When Khris Davis was 22 he hit 22 HRs in low A Trever Rosenthal was ranked between 39 and 45 when he was 22 years old. He spent the last two seasons striking out a batter an inning with a high nineties fastball and a killer changeup. When Mike Fiers was 22 he was a Junior at Nova Southeastern University. Mike Fiers throws his fastball at the same speed as Rosenthal's changeup There is no grand conspiracy against the Brewers and their minor leaguers, they just haven't had many high upside players in the past 5 years. Congratulations to the Brewers for scrapping together a few decent ball players from guys without a pedigree, but none of those guys were prospects, and none of them deserved to be ranked highly before they reached the bigs. Jimmy Nelson is a legit prospect and he's been recognized as such. Wily Peralta was a legit prospect and he was recognized.
  8. I'll stick up for the MLBPA a little bit here. One day of MLB service time gets you lifetime health coverage and this extends back retroactively to anyone who ever played. 43 days gets you a $34,000 annual pension. Compared to other pro sports they've done well giving marginal guys a safety net. When you look at the NFL that generates so much money and so much violence, I think it's downright disgraceful that they haven't found a way to give every retired player a health plan. I would like to see MLBPA stick their necks out a bit more for minor leaguers and amateur's, but it's simply the nature of all organized labor that they reward seniority and don't want to spend their power on non-members. MLBPA is still head and shoulders above any other players union when it comes to bringing home the bacon.
  9. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=2b&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=1&season=2014&month=37&season1=2014&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=16,d They've combined for the 7th highest wRC+ in baseball so far. Not too bad for a position that was a huge question mark in my eyes coming into the season.
  10. Darn, I saw the tittle I actually thought he might be doing well. I will always love Yuni for reasons I can't really put into words. If Yuni is on a roster he will inexplicably find a way to take the field. He possesses some mysterious force that causes managers to act irrationally.
  11. I like Scookie, I vote for that.
  12. He's on the 40 man roster now, so he doesn't have to worry about marijuana tests anymore. The majors don't test for it, and no one has ever been suspended for it as far as i know. What those struggles say about maturity issues is something else entirely. Back when the 'stros were trying to do this with Springer, someone used a poker analogy that I liked. If a ten dollar bet has a 25% chance at returning a $50 dollar payout then you make the bet every time. These pre-arb deals are still so cheap, and skewing so team friendly that hitting on one can pay for the cost of several misses. A ten million dollar investment is nothing compared to how much the prime years of a middle of the order bat are worth.
  13. Let's ease up on the hyperbole here. Despite sporadic playing time Weeks is hitting pretty well. Better than Segura and Davis at least. Gennett is atrocious against left handers, and Weeks isn't hurting us by playing second against lefties. Take a look at what's being run out every night by Toronto, St. Louis, or Atlanta, and you'll see Rickie is still capable of being a starter in this league. Not for 11 million dollars, but if the Brewers cut him loose right now he would quickly have another job in the majors. Gennett still needs a platoon mate, and Weeks is a more valuable bench bat than Schafer or Bianchi, so I don't really see what the rush to get rid of him is. You pay his salary either way. There's not really any situation where it makes sense to play Rickie in the outfield either, so I don't see why everyone is so upset about this. So much irrational hatred of Weeks, not just on this board, but among Brewers fans in general.
  14. Thank you Rickie for stopping RRR from doing something really really stupid like playing you in the outfield.
  15. Over at Fangraphs Michael Reed was included in this weeks 'Fringe Five' list of overlooked prospects. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-fringe-five-baseballs-most-compelling-fringe-prospects-24/ Not much, but nice to see one of our guys get a little love from a national writer.
  16. Cinci and Pittsburgh are the only places I've noticed it and it's awful.
  17. I was all right with pulling Smith for Kintzler, although it's probably not the choice I would have made. If Smith gives up a hit then people will go for his head for ignoring the platoon advantage. As a guy who in the past has (sometimes rightly) been criticized for not playing matchups well, I think he's done a pretty good job managing the pen, although I suppose it's not hard with the way they've been throwing. The bunt choice was awful, and I guess that's just one of those Roenicke things we have to live with. When I saw Bianchi I was thinking 'Hey, don't they have Reynolds?' and then a sinking feeling set in as I realized what was happening. It was an even worse decision because Jean 'pound everything into the ground' Segura was batting next. He's probably one of the least likely guys to give you a sac fly.
  18. Well. It could have been a lot worse, considering how bad Yo looked/how locked in the Reds were. One nice thing about the new sinkerballer strikethrowing Yo is that he got hit around with liners and ground balls and not home runs.
  19. Coming into this series I was going to be more than happy stealing one. At some point we're just going to have to accept that this team is magic and that the rules no longer apply to them. Whatever happens the rest of the year, it's been fun to watch at the very least.
  20. Lohse continues to rack up the K's. At what point does this stop being an early season fluke and start being another dimension he's added to his game.
  21. I pretty much like everyone on TV and Radio during the game. Joe Block took a little getting used to, but he knows the game. My biggest issue with the broadcasts are Davie Nelson and Jerry Augustine are awful. Neither have anything insightful to say and they are awful on camera. Sophia Minnaert does a good job and Coshun is all right as a host I just wish they had a decent analyst. I can't even watch the pregame most days.
