  1. Watching Maker this last game, I know I didn't see all of his minutes, but the time I did see, offensively he always ran to top corner/Right of the basket due to TV angle. Sat there as a kick out, made the good pass to Brogdon late for a huge 3. Defensively, he ran all around basically chasing the ball. At first I thought great because he helped defend a play under the basket, but then after 3 more possessions just noticed his running at the ball, left SA with an open player. Lucked in to SA missing shots. All-in-all if they are going to use him that style defensively, I'd think his best minutes would be closing out the 1st quarter, Middle of 3rd quarter, and start of 4th quarter. His floor energy with this style has gotta tire him.
  2. Not a chance. 11years-17WAR has been a negative defensively for 5years running. The bat isn't anything special. He'll want far more than he's worth to play here. At his age/talents Id think he'd want to play for a team with Playoff potential...even though he has WS titles with the Giants... Just what keeps up his motivation if he's signed to a rebuilding team? Especially becoming a 4th OF or 5th on that team? Just don't buy in to either side wanting a deal.
  3. What if you could get creative? Doubt a deal's ever been this way before, but 1yr, 2option years, but Holland could opt out that option? so something like. guaranteed -6.5mil this year option 1-10.5mil option 2-13mil. But Holland can opt out from.
  4. What a great trade by Seattle, to get Smyly. Gohara is a loss certainly but at same time not someone you have to play on the ML team for the next 2 seasons maybe longer. Smith for whatever reason entices Tampa for someone possessing such a soft bat. Speed is great and all but the offensive cost? Think a line like .260/.325/.355 makes up for that? Not to mention their OF seems full on starters so as a 4th OF? I guess looking at the other two names the Rays are looking for Lottery tickets and they may be the more value to them in this trade. With this deal, it would appear Tampa has passed Milwaukee for lower payroll to start 2017. Gotta say Tampa doesn't look all that great at the ML level and in the Minors. I dunno when they'd come up with a 90win team again certainly not before Milwaukee does. Snell and Honeywell are going to have to reach their ceilings to be taken serious as a .500+ team.
  5. Not to be a downer, but Taylor Williams much like Devin Williams, has 174.2 Professional IP total going back to 2013....4 seasons' time. Devin has 287.1 IP in same timeframe but never more than 100IP in a season. These guys are not ML callups soon for all of 2017 easily and very little if any for 2018 unless put in the bullpen.
  6. Still a tie to Greg Holland who would be playing post TJ surgery that sat him out all of 2016. 2years that provides an opt out. One would probably guess something like 2/12million 5.5/6.5. And obviously if he pitched to his lights out prior to 2015 season would opt out and seek the 12mil+FA type of deals these types are getting. Now, you wonder if he opts out, can you QO him? Problem being he'll be 31 turning 32 for the 2018 season. Of any reliever available on FA market, he easily presents the highest ceiling. Of the teams tied in to him, Milwaukee would present the most leeway in salary. He earned 8.25mil in 2016 in what appears to be his 2nd year Arb? maybe his 1st but odd he made 4.6mil in 2014 w/o it being an arb season. If he were to come out and be lights out clearly paving the expectation of opting out, you trade him in July and likely get a great piece back. If he's at his 2015 self which is still fairly good to expect a bounceback more in 2018 you've got a closer experienced on the cheaper side for 2 years. His Fip has pretty much always been lower than ERA and was just 3.27 in 2015 and career sits at 2.23. That's pretty stellar. I think the risk is worth the reward in this instance to pay an extra million or 2 per year than what he's being offered by other teams to entice him to sign with Milwaukee.
  7. Searching Perez's name on site and you are on to something. The only mention for Perez on the Brewers was when they claimed him and designated Elian Herrera.
  8. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/01/latest-on-jae-gyun-hwang.html Speculating still some interest from Milwaukee, though I wonder if that is just from old news before Shaw trade occured. Now of teams listed in the article, One would think Milwaukee presented the most chance of regular play.
  9. wow surprised just 170 of these situations in 64 games. This has to be limited to only 3rd and 4th down situations, or maybe just 3rd downs? Oh edit, I see this is from 2015. Makes more sense.
  10. I'd imagine if you rushed 5 or 6 there's 1 receiver(likely RB) who is probably 20-35yards downfield depending how quick the incoming rush. Which more than likely is wide open but has to now run past 5 or 6 defenders awaiting near the goal line. You would have that lateral potential if you ran towards one OB side and one of the WRs who ran in to endzone ran towards other sideline, or of course a tailing Lineman hustling down field not that you expect much, but he'd extend the play with more laterals. I personally would call 3man rush with a spy linebacker to blitz after 2 or 3 secs. because typically the QB always runs out the pocket. So rather than on the snap just wait to see where he heads and beat him there.
  11. Well I'm sure it does as there was Reggie Bush who I believe needed 7 yards in final game in order to not have Negative yards rushing across I dunno how many attempts. I'm guessing 50 or 75 attempts minimum. Well just looked at his stats 12 rushes -3 yards. Maybe it's on being over 5,000 career yards? to have a season in negative rushing.
  12. If that happened this is a 60 win team. Far too many under 300OB bats and little power. So Thames is best hitter on the team? Obviously a number of players missing from your list but based on what im seeing above. Not going to be a season to watch.
  13. I can agree on this notion. It is more like Vegas o/u season win totals. It could change though after this year depending on the play of certain players. The young ones as well as any future SP staff like Hader, Davies. I'd think a range for this team is 65-86wins. That's different to Pittsburgh's, St Louis', and Cubs who likely range from 81-102wins. In two years maybe that range to be a real .500 team becomes where those 3 teams are now. I like to think of this team's range like Minnesota Twins, how they had a great 20 15 but terrible 2016. It relies on Pitching. We dont have that reliable staff. We're not a real .500 team til that begins showing up more.
  14. It took the 6th possession before McCarthy called a 3step pass, Adams big gain down the sidelines. I find it crazy how little those quick pass plays are called. 1 that presents an up-tempo for the ensuing hurryup offense. 2 You have a GOAT at QB who can thread the ball in spaces very few ever could. Like that 1st completion to Cook in game. But no, the next two plays, long developing pass plays which being a GOAT led to a TD. There was that earlier play call, after the PI set Pack at 30yd. Genius play design. But calling it 1st and 10 at Giants 30 is about as bad as the reverse order of calls that should have been when stuffed on 4th/inches. Of couse the line is stacked as your likely 3yards from true in-game FG range. And he calls the genius long developing short pass play easily blew up with any defense play called at that exact situation. Followed next by a coverage sack and sadly another season ender for Nelson on 3rd 21. Its bad how McCarthy chooses these plays and especially bad how long he takes to playcall to the Offense's strength. Rodgers escapes so many would be sacks and it's like McCarthy just expects the 9 step dropbacks to work out because Rodgers finds a way for him.
  15. You do realize that being a 5 and being a post-player are not necessarily the same things, right? No one has said that he need to be a post-up player. Maker could easily grow to the 240-250lb range that would allow him the bulk to manage defending the opposing center. IF he can handle the defensive side of the Center position, imagine a lineup of Giannis, Middleton, Parker, Maker and Dellavedova (or whomever) where no one is clogging the middle offensively (hello Anthony Mason), thus allowing for plenty of room to drive to the hoop. Or driving and kicking it out to any of the other 4 players that have 3pt range. When you have a player that breaks the traditional molds, it doesn't mean you have to force him back into that mold (i.e. a center being a post-up player). See, I envision his 5 differently. Because he's long, lean and athletic. He'll cause problems to bigger #5s not being able to shoot over him, dribble a few times more and with how the Bucks Athletically are appearing on paper mean long arms like Giannis to steal the bowl or catch poor passouts. You can't teach height. He's over 7' tall. This is not like he is facing Shaq's every game out. I see him average defensively with what he'd bring as a 3pt threat offensively, just making 1-1 for Giannis childs play and wreck defenses. Brogdon, Parker, Middleton, Maker on 1 side of the court or 3/1 stretching the defense.... I mean Giannis is already attempting behind the back passes. Get a guy like Maker or Parker diving in behind Giannis on his drive to the basket which he clears out for easy layins and dunks.
  16. No it's not. Unless you can convince me they will somehow have a rotation that can compete in 1 or 2 years. Thames is a place holder, because Mark A does not want to see a 50 win season. He wants to field a team that can at least be decent, and whether I agree with that or not, I get why he feels that way. I don't believe Thames will be a part of the next truly competitive team, so yea I'm open to flipping him for the right prospect/s. He's also holding up a potential logjam in the OF, where ideally Braun or Santana move to 1B within the next couple years. So you expect Mark A to die before September?
  17. Is that good or bad? Maybe the question is, what is the added value of his bat every five days (and occasionally as a PH) compared to the other pitchers on the board? If he profiles as a #3, and another guy profiles as a #2 but hits like Ben Sheets, which one do you go with? Its good. And that answer is easy. I take the #2 who hits like Sheets every time. If starters get 33 starts. #2s would be shy or near 6.2IP avg. #3s at 6IP. You get maybe 2.9Abs with #3 and 3.1 with #2s. So lets put a 100-110. #2 to me is 3.25-.55ERA #3 is a 3.6-.85ERA. I dont think the rare bat ability exceeds the pitching ability. That bat gets less use due to the more runs/less IP. So part of its positive is counteracted by the negative of runs allowed. Meanwhile the #2 who lasts to 6.2IP with weaker bat. It's easier to make decision of PH, allow to pitch longer and bat. The game outcome pct. Is later so those later/extra Abs, they come with less effect on game impact.
  18. Not suggesting he become the starter. Just take over what minutes Plumlee would be getting. And the minutes from Monroe, when he's obviously too slow to defend. Looking at Plumlee's game log he's avg just 4.6min in a total of 7games played since start of December. So his benchworthy time has been pretty much addressed.
  19. Nope! As I posted a few pages back they've had a least a half a dozen games where they've had like 12-15 point leads either at half or in the 3rd quarter and blown it. That one Cavs game where Giannis went mental was a great showcase for how good this team can be, but so far we haven't been able to sustain it. So I take that response as a Yep?! Many blown 12-15pt leads leading to poor record. So they should have a better record. To some bits above. Re-5. Monroe is clearly to slog-ish. Plumlee I dunno what value he brings. Id rid of him now and play Maker, regardless of being ready. The reps will accelerate his advancement. And with his shooting ability, help spread out the floor for Giannis to just Freak like only he can. Because if Maker's defender comes down to help on a Giannis drive, you know Giannis will kick it out to him wide open 3pt shot. I don't care his pct. In this developmental year. The more frequent he gets these attempts, the more confidence he'll gain down the line with continued encouragement. And if Maker's defender stays tight, Giannis will own the poor sap attempting to guard him. Giannis is nearing a point I think he could score 40 every game if he Kobe'd his shot attempts and wanted.
  20. I dunno. With the expected game temperatures and Lambeau Field. I think will help lead to poor game Eli Manning vs. Great game Eli Manning. Btw, I recall the pregame of Det. Mentioning 0 Titles since 1993. Which I recall was a division clincher over GB, only to begin Favre's Legacy with the Sterling Sharpe TD heave across the football field some 70yards to beat the Lions. Talk about dominating a franchise for 25+years.
  21. That is what I mean by depth. 4 players who have played in the majors only. Not counting Reed's 1weeks worth of AB, who If I recall had them in 2015? You get caught in the rookie 5th OF who doesnt play but once a week with PH abs. And stunting his development vs. Giving everyday play in minors. Something's bound to happen and fix this concern.
  22. Based on how the 40man rosters sits now. I've gotta believe Perez is our #4 OF and Kirk N, our backup CF/Platoon if/when needed. I wasn't aware the OF was this thin on the 40man. There is far less reason to trade Braun and just keep him. I think a Gennett trade happens for a 5th OF type more-so now than previous. Or is Brinson a fast callup? I'll wait on more predicting because there are 25man roster concerns likely to be addressed
  23. Of posters here, Louisely, you're one of maybe 3 Id think would have answer to that. Alex Verdugo i know I loved back in the 2014 predraft mention Id take him with Brewers 2nd pick, keep him as pitcher and turn him to another Yovani with the bat ability. Dodgers from day one drafted him as a position player. I think the two-way player is just not feasible in a developmental mind. The injury risk increases if a better batter and as pitcher gets TJ required. The opposite would be breaking a bone in the field of play, or hamstring issues. I'd be thrilled to hear a two way prospect develope and reach ML level. Just seems you go one route, and when that stalls try to go back to the other. Ramirez being that latest Milw example.
  24. I don't know if you could really say overvalued at the time. Pittsburgh traded for him before they acquired John Jaso. Broxton is/was a below .800 OPS OF stuck behind the stars of McCutchen, Marte, and Polanco, with Austin Meadows on the rising ranks. Josh Bell was on the cusp, appearing to become a long-term 1b that I'd assume they didn't want to bring up for either loss of team control year, nor the Super 2 cutoff. Allowing them to use Rogers at 1b for near half season, while Bell's status became what they wanted. But then they added Jaso. I dunno maybe they believed he wasn't going to sign with them prior to the trade. But his veteran signing resulted in Rogers losing his playing time. I don't Rogers was ever believed to become a 1st team type 1b starter. Just a solid 2nd teamer who gets you by. You go to 2nd team's and Min. has Mauer. Cincy has Votto. Tampa has a use for him. SD has Wil Myers. Atl-Freddie Freeman. Oak Yonder Alonso better being lefty. Arz-Goldschmidt Philly-finally moved on from Howard. Seen success with a Tommy Joseph. Angels-CJ Cron. Finally the Rockies, who could use him. That's only 2 teams plus only some invites with insurance behind current 1b. It was not like Keon Broxton was a shining star in the minors and most certainly not with his start for 2016. We got lucky to this point. Now you hope Broxton continues his breakout. I could see Milw reacquiring Rogers because we are one of few 2nd teams who could use a 1b fillin.
  25. I'd find it really hard to see Ortiz in 2018 even part time. But Hader I understand. Guerra is doubtful just due to history and age. Now there's Woodruff as the potential Ortiz replacement in that projection. His breakout year last year, and with this July trade deadline, I think seeing him is possible in 2017 and then 2018 realistic to perform that way....At least believing his breakout is real and moving forward. I believe we're at a point where Nelson or Peralta are removed from starting and put in the bullpen. Jorge Lopez fits that potential if he doesn't regain form as a Starter by the trade deadline. This is why I'm not that concerned with the bullpen as made-up currently. Visually the depth truth to me is that you aren't going to sit on these types like Nelson, Peralta, Lopez, Jungmann on future development as Starters. There is a backload of SP prospects who are coming and forcing them to wait just won't happen. That concern of Mark A. waiting for this rebuild to flourish on the ML field. You combat that by advancing the better talented pitching and move on from the ones no longer holding down a spot with starting. I'm sure there is a bullpen pickup coming before the season starts, just not that FA variety, but by waiver claim as Stearns has shown the ability to find talent that way. And I'll be honest. As 2017 season plays out and prospect talent or ML talent is sorted through. The depth in the OF sees a major piece moved such as Santana, Broxton or Brinson along with other types and acquire someone the team needs to attain 2018 competitiveness. There is no way this rebuild takes to 2020. And I'd be very surprised that it takes in to 2019. This is happening in 2018 and there are moves to be made that could make the rebuild a reality before the end of 2017, it just comes too late in the season to say they are winning in 2017.
