Heres where Maldy goes to, and Brett Phillips for Solarte. What I think would be accepted by San Diego.

Is a trade for Trout out of the question?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HighHeat19's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
................... Computer voice: "your party is no longer on the line" 5 top 100 prospect. 2 that have produced now to that ranking in Thornburg and Villar. Near 7WAR in those 2. And thats with Villar losing Def WAR playing 3rd. Stays at 2b/SS hes 4.5+. Those are the lowest of the 5. Brinson/Hader are both top 40. Diaz is top 75 and Id believe top 30 by midseason. Click? How about you tell me the better offer proposed to you by another team? 20-25 has Demi O, Jake Gatewood, Brandon Woodruff, via MLB ranks. You know what League Angels play in? AL....position players must get on avg at least 75 more PAs over 140 game period. Thats why I put Villar over Arcia because to me Villar has higher Offensive tools. Vs Arcia's Defensive tools. Diaz is going to be so good offensively off all 5 I see him becoming AS and 5+WAR producing at 2b. Brian Dozier/Roughned Odor type of excitement with bat. Hader reportedly a legit TOR potential. That is 3AS 1 very good Late Inning tpye. And Brinson who I fear being a Leonys Martin type of disappointment. Still. Dont Like that offer? The ceilings are high in the prospects. Villar. Thronburg. Again, throw me better offers from other teams before saying just Click. -
I didn't think it was going to be so huge at the time, but when WI got the ball after stopping them on the 2nd 4th down(fumble recovery) At 28-7 lead, and ball receive in 2nd half, you call run(perfect) but then pass, pass of which both incomplete resulting in 1min removed of what was 3:25 in game clock. Punt and Penn St.'s ensuing TD before the half changed the entire game. I felt like McSorley was hit on pass plays 50% of the time prior to that drive. And then was never hit again pass plays the rest of the game. All because that 40yard completion for TD. The defense never recovered in how to attack. I also have to say the RBs. I think all 3 were injured during the game. It became 2 downs, rotate, 2downs, rotate, 2 downs rotate. Clement, Shaw, Shaw, Clement, Clement, Shaw, Ogunbowale, Shaw, Ogunbowale, Clement, Shaw, Clement to end game. Pretty much 2nd half usage. I think Clement is better used late 2nd quarter and 2nd half especially if he seems to only be able to run 2downs and need to catch his breath off the field a play or three. You'd see them gain 4, gain 8 with him and think great 1st down, we'll keep this up, and there he goes running to sideline huffing and puffing. Ogunbowale comes in and it was like Chryst called pass plays 60% of the time. This momentum gained with Clement is shot by pass play call that generally wasn't for more than 5yards if at all past the line of scrimmage. All the offensive plays just made Penn St. way to comfortable to just crowd in, no deep threats and certainly nothing beyond 12yards. The complete opposite on Penn St.'s end after the 40yard touchdown, the defense was on the heels rest of the way. Just upsetting because at 28-7 with the ball 3:25 remaining in 1st half the team and playcalling nailed it in as a win. The missed FG try gave Penn St. far more momentum and the next play TD even more. Yep all energy the Badgers had at 28-7 disappeared at 28-14.

Is a trade for Trout out of the question?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HighHeat19's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
So how much money are the Angels sending if we're giving them 6players? I understand including a Villar or Arcia, but not both, not with Hader&Thornburg. And of course you cant possibly take Trout w/o putting Brinson in the trade. Since the void in CF needs replacing. It'd probably go Villar, Thornburg, Brinson, Hader, Isan Diaz. +someont in the 20-25 ranking in Brewers system. For Trout and 5mil per year remaining on contract. -
Complete Pass. What can he even accomplish for the team we don't already have for Catcher?

Competitive Balance Lottery Changes in CBA
brewcrewdue80 replied to JDBrewCrew's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
I'm assuming the five picks after each round are ordered in inverse relation to prior year's record. Well that would remove the alternating equation. Maybe the "lottery" this year determines who gets the 5 1st pick comps and who gets the 5 2nd pick comps. And now you just alternate after. I'd assume if #11/10 change in terms of getting a comp or not with market size, #11 just takes the place of what #10 was receiving. Nothing has been mentioned in regards to changing markets or expansion. Should Mexico gain a franchise. You wonder on Tampa maybe losing a franchise. Obviously if Tampa was lost, where this new team lands and it's market. But maybe that all is more than 5years away and will come addressed in the next CBA. -
Brewers sign Scooter Gennett - 1 year/2.525M
brewcrewdue80 replied to adambr2's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
MLBtraderumors.com had Scooter projected at $3.0M for 2017. Perhaps the club figured it was a good figure - and teams would be more interested at the lower price. And the lower price will help keep his 2018 and 2019 salaries lower (assuming Scooter is deemed worthy of arbitration). I'm not worried about someone not wanting the guy. I think it's just a matter of finding the right fit on a deal. As I've said, I just don't think we'll get a lot for him. I suppose locking him in to near 500k less expectation price tag could be seen as relieving for a trading team. -
Why do you say that? The changes on the International signing where essentially small markets can spend 10mil. Vs. a Big Market 8.3mil. Luxury tax penalties? Confusing but seems pretty painful to exceed multiple seasons. Would put big markets most likely to keep payrolls towards the max and not go over. You get a 1st pick+500k international spend bonus, or a 2nd pick+1mil international bonus. How that's decided I wouldn't know but no more lotteries where St Louis gets a 1st round comp and the Brewers get nothing in unfortunate years. The QO penalties award small markets over big markets. Truthfully, this seems to me to restrict big markets quite massively. And the Players, I'm not sure why they'd want to hurt their earning potential so much. How likely is it Bryce Harper will get 10/500 in free agency if the big market team leaves 150mil roughly left to spend on the team? I guess if teams like New York are going from making 500million profit to 725million profit with these restrictions they aren't going to concern 100million in tax penalties if they decide to grow to 300million payroll. Returning them back to a 500million profit. The international part is really hurting. Hard Capped at 4.75mil for 20teams and the other 10, unsure again how determined if receive 1/500 or 2/1mil. If you split it adds 7.5mil. Means 102.5million hard capped. The Padres as that article states paid 80million this period alone in 40+40tax on the last signing period....you know supposedly the tax that induces MLB international funding to promote and develop in that area more... Now how does that money come to this supposed prior penalty receiver?

Brewers sign Scooter Gennett - 1 year/2.525M
brewcrewdue80 replied to adambr2's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I'm surprised this happened so early and before the Winter Meetings. I'd have waited til after the meetings if someone was going to trade for him. I don't see how he fits the team unless we move Perez or Villar -

Agree on account what good does it do to have Trout with absolutely no Pitching to speak of. -
What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I definitely chimed this thought when the Sept 1st deadline on playoff roster occurred. DeLeon was never called up until after. The Dodgers could have used him at least 3weeks earlier but stuck it out with Urias and swingman types. Starting his service time clock before September holding him back as well as the need for him with further SP injuries. -
Tough choice only because of his injury. Had a surgery for his shoulder, and I'm unsure when he'd be able to pitch for the season. MLBTR says no trades materialized with a 9.6Million price tag. Which seems to me that he's not expected to return any time soon to the beginning of 2017 season. Or in other words, no chances at 22starts or more.

Matt Garza - Significant Trade Asset??
brewcrewdue80 replied to Jose Cardenal1's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I've said from the beginning along with a few others here. His contract is Gold because of that option year. 5million or 1million regardless where he's at is desirable so long as he's healthy enough to pitch. Look at what Atlanta has done. Colon-12.5m, Dickey-8mil, even Jaime Garcia-12m. I'd take Garza over those 3 regardless of the numbers they've put up. The Cubs got paid for Garza's half season of AS pitching. We've got another year for him to represent that kind of skill for trade value rise outside of the dollar amount. -
What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
High Heat, I think I saved you before the storm of comments came. It was Laughable because I know how some feel towards the great Dodgers Prospects. Getting #2 and 3 is all well and good, but when you included Yadier Alvarez who cost what over 30million to the Dodgers and is likely catapulting to the Dodgers #1 prospect by the end of next season. Just too hopeful. Had been already hashed in the thread multiple times. Torts, yes the Brewers did sign Thames. 4,5,6million. The upset to that signing is that he isn't a known to produce. I'd think just a midseason of performance would make him desirable to trade for to many teams.(in the case that we trade for Bellinger) Thames originally was the OF and Bellinger played some OF which if the Braun trade happened would leave some Playing Time to fill for a number of OF prospects. Having Bellinger would create the case to trade Thames for something. But then again, you may also use him to trade for a SP yourself. Get the best talent possible over settling for lesser. Isan Diaz from Jean Segura is an example. Never bad to have insurance waiting at pretty much the weakest position in regards to prospects. -
What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Excellent points. The Dodgers would benefit themselves by performing a trade for Braun sooner than later. I personally don't think the trade is hinging on Bellinger. Stearns doesn't seem to place much emphasis on the first base position. Stearns also makes a living by mining what the opposing team devalues. Hence, the claim for Puig (at the time when he was struggling). Since the July deadline, Puig and Bellinger have improved their stock. I would look for Stearns to mine a little more risk now. I can still see McCarthy as the offset salary guy. And then I could see a trade for DeLeon "Risk- shoulder inflammation 2016", and Verdugo, Yadier Alvarez, and De Jong. The last 3 just because of their youth, all at 20 Y.O., which has an inherent risk as well. These 5 players straight up for Braun. Scooter if the pot needs to be sweetened. Oh boy. This oughta be good the comments forthcoming to that trade idea.... -
I'm all for that. There's you #26 man on the roster. Get somebody to help the team more. When sending someone on the DL, they can "Rehab" without the move to throw in the minors as an option? Say you put Anderson on the DL for 10days. and on day 5 or 6, you give him a 1IP or 2IP bullpen outing for the AAA or AA team? Figuring the guy you call up is Bullpen arm who gets in 2-4IP before being sent down? Could be a way to sorta Option a player who doesn't have options. Matt Garza?

What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
They just keep coming. Dexter Fowler has via MLBTR at least 3 suitors interested in him reportedly at 18mil per year. Another 2years younger than Braun but with this caveat. Never had a .900 OPS season. Braun has played 410games the last 3seasons, Fowler 397. Only his 156games in 2015 happen to be only season above in career above 143. For the most part Fowler is a mid .700s OPS bat attributed to being a higher OB%. Over slg. So tell me how Braun is expensive for his contract? -
What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Just throwing this number out there on Braun: At the Trade Deadline triple slash numbers were: .321/.383/.515/.898 When the season ended they were: .305/.365/.538/.903 Pretty much cements him as a .900OPS hitter. Something the NYM had just paid Cespedes 110million over 4years for. Ryan Braun is making 4/76. 8.5million per year difference. But for Braun his expense decreases while Cespedes' increases. Put simply, especially now with this CBA. Braun's 8.5million a year difference is more than the equivalent of what MLB's #1 pick slot is worth. As well as exceeding what a team can spend in the international signing period. Whereas draft picks in the 1st round are about 50/50 to even just make the Majors. Braun is a guarantee to what I'd suspect teams wish their 1st round choices even reach. A note on Yasiel Puig, he could have opted in to Arbitration, and didn't. 8.2 million is more than he values what he is worth in Arbitration. If Puig really believed he was a 5WAR ability player and could stand by that he'd certainly have opted in to Arbitration. I just cant fathom how Puig/McCarthy+2 prospects for Braun doesn't translate in to 1 of the big 3 Dodger Prospects mentioned not being included. It appears to me now, with this new CBA Braun should be of higher value to a team like the Dodgers. -
As I understand it, yes. So if the Brewers had a $6 million cap because of their market, they could either trade all of it away, or trade for additional cap space of up to $4.5 million, which would give them maximum available funds to spend of $10.5 million. Which means that signings like Moncada and Puig won't happen anymore. Players like that, and currently Shohei Otani, will have to wait until they have enough service time in foreign leagues to qualify as a major league free agent. That's a pretty awful system. So the team's that went haywire in spending in 2015/16 no longer have penalties? If so, I just knew something like this was going to happen, where the teams would overspend and aside from the taxes get away no penalties. I should have inquired, Do we have a reverse order of finish pool allotment like before? Say 5million down to 2.5million worst to 1st? Or is it just plain, the signing period happens and Teams A have 5million to spend. Teams B have 6million to spend? If all can spend to their hardcap would put 165million in spending possible. But if there's an allotment, from my suggestion 5mil to 2.5mil equally down is about $83,333 per slot and with 15teams allowed to 6mil would then put the spending possible to 147.5 million. How does those amounts compare to what was spent previously these last 3 years? Curious in regards to what the International side sees this as.
-
How is that any more fair. What if I am playing the AL East and you get to play the AL Central? Well, If you're playing for an AL team it's awesome system. They'd have had homefield advantage via end of year standings since 2004. And only 2002 and 2003 did the NL beat out the AL in interleague records in this century to date. On to the DL, Does that eliminate the 7day concussion usage? Don't fully understand the Internation Pool details. If there's a hard cap of either 5 or 6million depending on market, but at same time there's the ability to trade all of your International pool and gain 75% more, are we surpassing the 5/6million line then? QO system interesting. And confusing. So complicated overall, but for Milwaukee it's simple. 3rd choice forfeit, end of 1st rd compensation. I gotta say for most part it reads really like MLB and MLBPA are doing their best to make all 30teams competitive. With one or two exceptions. Which teams are #16/17 in Revenue? Which Teams are 15/14 in revenue? Quickly checking on Google 1.NYY:508 516 2.LAD:403 438 3.SFG:387 409 4.RDSX:370 398 5.LAA:304 312 6.CHC:302 340 7.STL:294 300 8.WSH:287 293 9.ATL:267 266-15 10.TEX:266 275 11.PHI:265 263-16 12.NYM:263 313 13.DET:254 268-14 14.SEA:250 271-12 15.BAL:245 239-22 16.KCR:231 273-11 17.PIT:229 244-18 18.TOR:227 241-19 19.Cin:227 237-23 20.CHW:227 240-21 21.Milw:226 234-24 22.SD:224 244-17 23.MN:223 240-20 23+Hou: 270-13 I'm sure majority won't understand this but simply: 2014 Houston wasn't top 15 in revenue. 2015 they were 13th. 2014 Kansas City wasn't top 15 in revenue. 2015 they were 11th 2014 Phillies were in top 15 at 11. 2015 they weren't at 16th. 2014 Baltimore were in top 15 at 15. 2015 they weren't at 22nd. 2014 15 and 16 were 14million apart. 2015 15 and 16 were 3million apart. Oddly Toronto and Chicago White Sox were both below 15 both seasons. Toronto had 10th highest payroll in 2015 White Sox 15th. Toronto had 10th highest payroll in 2014 White Sox 20th. Detroit at 13/14 in revenue those 2 seasons had the 4th and 5th highest payrolls. The Reds had 12 and 14th highest payrolls while being bottom 15 in revenue. The Mets had 22nd and 21st highest Payrolls while being in top 15 in revenue. What happens within the flip flops? And not only that, but when do team's revenues get computed? If you're near #15 you don't know where you stand this time of year so do you sign a QO? Offer one? You go from end of 1st to end of 2nd competitive balance in the compensation. And of course the 2/5 combo loss or just the 3rd choice lost? Forbes didn't come out with its Team Valuations until March 23rd of this year for 2015. This will come in to play watch. When a team signs or offers a QO and then their thoughts on what it was going to cost them being below 15 in revenue and turns out they are in top 15.

Brewers sign Eric Thames (3 years)
brewcrewdue80 replied to jerichoholicninja's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
You lost me. This is nothing more than trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Jose Abreu has talent...and a lot of it. That is why he was paid $50mil+ mil. I am guessing Stearns saw the barren wasteland in the minors and likes Thames as a guy who can be average at 1B. Even average 1B get really pricey so if Thames can be that guy we save a nice chunk of money. I don't think Stearns envisions Thames as a high ceiling guy, butmore of a role player or to atleast fill a black hole with something. Wow, i lost you? How does playing in the Cuban League make Abreu a 1b talent? But numbers by Thames in the KBO as good as Abreu posted (sans the walks) equate to lack pf talent? I suppose. If Milwaukee paid him 3/34 where do your feelings go in Abreu comp? Theyd have matched the dollar total then so he has equal talent as Abreu from the Cuban League? Cuban and International signees in South America are getting big dollars for production from their Leagues. Is Hector Olivera a bigger talent than Thames? Money suggests so. Mentioned in Rumors Kenta Maeda. 8yrs 25mil by Dodgers. He must not be much a talent...Oh wait the year he had in 2016 for the Dodgers is already worth the 25mil cost. As been mentioned, one thing Thames possesses that these other international signings didnt? Having gone through a MLB system, and already games in MLB experience. If Thames produces just 2/3rds to his Korean numbers hes outplaying his pay. As shown with Jung Ho Kang. A 33% drop did not happen. Thames comes with better batting numbers. Like I said, Stearns way of signing his own Jose Abreu, who plays 1b, what Thames will play. Who came with Video game Numbers in a foreign league, True on both. One just happened to sign for half the years and money per, vs the other. Who was 3years younger at the time. -
Brewers sign Eric Thames (3 years)
brewcrewdue80 replied to jerichoholicninja's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Consider this Milw's attempt at a Jose Abreu. Who's tallied 12WAR in 3seasons. .875OPS career for that great WAR return. Yes every one of his numbers dropped from what he did in the Cuban League. Still came away very productive as one of the best 1b bats in baseball. Abreu signed for an avg of 11.33mil a season. This is 15mil on 3 seasons. Can you imagine the impact potential if we get just Abreu's production in 2016? .820 OPS Not even a positive Def WAR but yet worth 2.8BWAR? That right there would fill off the cost involved. I'm not going to predict him being a SB threat. I see that he a monster year in 2015, but really the 11 and 13 the opposite two seasons would seem to fit in with what he'd done in his past. Still, if he can produce 10SBs guess who's that kind of 1b threat? Eric Hosmer. Who's career high is .822 OPS. 6 seasons Hosmer has produced 10.1BWAR with career .763OPS. Let's just put it out there Hosmer made 8.25million this season. And he'll make more in 2017, even though for his numbers, he's not really worth much more. We've managed to nab a guy who's a cross of these two both in stats within KBO. He won't make half of Abreu's salary, and likely even half of Hosmer's salary for 2017. -
Chris Carter designated for assignment
brewcrewdue80 replied to markedman5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
There is the fact that Santana dealt with shoulder injuries this season and elbow. Not throwing his 6'5" body in to walls or diving for catches may have had some to do with his defense this year, attempting not to injure himself more. There could also be attributed being a rookie basically in experience roaming the Outfield. I like the idea of getting Santana over to 1b the most. You can provide Perez with OF starts when not in the infield. But, there still is that Dodger/Braun trade to wonder on a certain 1b prospect. I wouldn't be surprised if Carter still ends up in Milwaukee and paying him 5-6million. Obviously depends if there are any teams with interest in signing him for what Milwaukee isn't willing to offer to him. -
Chris Carter designated for assignment
brewcrewdue80 replied to markedman5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Cant be upset. It was discussed here if this would happen. The money for a 1WAR 1b just wasnt worth it it appears. Remember Carter had to have this offense just to be 1WAR. MLBTR suggests 8.1mil but if it was higher? In a way, you can applaud the decision that Stearns will pass on overextending someone's pricetag in relation to performance. Look forward to the future in Stearns GM moves. -
What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Here's one idea to kick around. What if the Brewers sent Braun/Guerra but in Guerra they receive Kenta Maeda? swapping some money via those two. Still for Braun I'd hope to receive a SP especially when taking in Puig and McCarthy as well. But adding Cody Bellinger and some higher ceiling type w/o the ranking currently. Would be interesting. The fact that Maeda's payroll commitment never increases would be a plus for the Brewers. Cheap enough if there comes a point you much move him to bullpen. So while Guerra saves 2.5mil now for Dodgers each of next 2seasons, should he continue his stats, he'll be paid more than Maeda 3seasons from now. Not that the Dodgers at that point need to be as concerned with money. Let's get a little crazy and say Braun, Guerra, and Thornburg. Milwaukee gets, McCarthy, Adrian Gonzalez, Julio Urias, and maybe a Walker Buehler type Pitching prospect. I'd add 1more prospect that I just can't choose from currently. Say you get Jose DeLeon vs Urias. I'd want Verdugo back. Dodgers obviously have a lot in their system to get that present high ceilings, what with their International signings or 1st round/comp round picks that aren't in their top 4 prospect rankings
