  1. That works from the idea of playing in Chicago's Market. If he's traded to Milw Let's just assume the best price the Brewers can offer is in the 18-21mil per year for 5 or 6years. That's 5/90-5/105mil and 6/108-6/126 Meanwhile the Cubs can just sit and wait til the offseason offer him a 24-28mil per year for 6 or 7years. That's 6/144-6/168 or 7/168-7/196 There's just no way he's going to pass up 50+mil to take a WI discount over 92miles of travel distance. 2. Which team do you honestly think is better for him to pitch for after 2015? Cubs didn't get him in this scenario and still have top prospects to field around JZ. Meanwhile after 2015 Milw has become quite crippled in talent present and future. No shape and form can Milw extend Zimmermann. It doesn't make sense from Zimmermann's perspective vs. his FA signing and playing for the Cubs/WhiteSox/Detroit who can give him so much more money.
  2. Reed is not eligible for the draft. Neither is Lopez as they both signed at 18. So if they are College signings they are eligible but HS signings they are not? At what point does Reed and Lopez have to be protected from Rule 5?
  3. Goforth reads as having 95+mph FB touching 98 at times. Last season was his first full season used as a RP. I'm thinking safe to assume he'd be picked up on the FB velocity alone and worked as a Stashed RP like Wang was. While the numbers don't impress they also don't disappoint. Im guessing he's a AAA RP to begin 2015 and that isn't far away to being Big League ready. He has super low HR/9 Considering the Brewers RP situation of the future. He stands as being their best Closer Groomed to join the team after Broxton leaves. Really can't let that just pass on by. No one else in the Brewers top 20 reads as having that kind of velocity aside from Hellweg who's losing time as being a prospect to like.
  4. Right. He's going to be plenty expensive. And as far as a return I'd expect the demand being Nelson,Arcia +Taylor/or Coulter. Isn't Zimmermann 1 TJ in on that throwing elbow? Which would appear to be 2009/2010 season? Or am I wrong? If it indeed happened then he's ripe for TJ surgery #2 to occur if I recall it happens around years 4 or 5 after the first? Would have him for 1 season and then watch him leave most likely. Netting a QO(if that elbow holds up) No Doubt he helps a ton the team's rotation but it's for 1 year and losing 18years of 3 team controlled talent. One that in Arcia I see as Allstar ability at a position to envy having all-star ability on your roster. And that could potentially be a 10year+ roster strength. If you can acquire him and keep Arcia I'm all for it. I don't care if I lost Nelson/Taylor/Coulter. I don't see their ceilings anywhere near as high as Arcia's. And you get the QO pick when he leaves so you should think you're getting 1 of those three lost talents back in your system potentially being better. I've seen enough video from the Fall Leagues to feel safe in letting Taylor leave in trade. Coulter has the bat, but not the surefire defensive position to man so I'm fine with him going for a talent like Zimmermann. As for Nelson, it'd suck to lose him but 1year of having an Ace+draft pick vs. a #5 or RP on the team you envision being WS contenders before talent departs they just cant replace for 2016 to seriously consider themselves a Playoff caliber team. Yeah I can handle letting him go. He's looking at a wasted year for 2015 imo being used in the bullpen or sent back to AAA. Fiers owns the #5 Starter job at this point. The weakness the Brewers have had was a knock of top of the rotation talent to propel them in the playoffs. Zimmermann held the WS champs to 1Run on 3hit in 8.2ip...Something I believe was an inherited runner being scored so he didn't even allow the run to score. Being from WI also makes the move most appealing. Talk about a StoryBook ending to acquire him and he helped lead the team to the WS? Do it if you keep Arcia. If you can't the consideration is over.
  5. How do you know he's met with Brewers in recent weeks? Not mentioned in the article.
  6. Yes I believe I predicted them to win more than 82games. And Im not a fan of this 20-7 start was a fluke and at some points they had to play to 1-11+1-13 stetches to bring them back down to where "that poster" believed was an 82win Brewer Team. I can understand a 2-8 10 game stretch say or a 3-10 stretch if being on the road vs. Playoff caliber teams and losing tight close games. But the 1-13 stretch happened with 6games at home/ a 3game set on the road vs. the last place team in division. The 1-11 stretch happened with 7 of the games at home! With just 4 games vs. teams that wound up with a winning record. Experiencing a 4 game sweep at home vs a 73win Phillies team. You just can't tell me that due to them starting 20-7 they logically had to have two runs like that to even it out. 13games at home in that 2-24 stretch run. Facing a bunch of Losing record teams? They should have been expected to win at least 6games at home even with believing they were due to regress to the individual's "norm"
  7. Why does Jungmann require Protection? He shouldn't be eligible for Rule 5 drafted in 2011. almost all of these mentioned are 2011 picks. So a team has 3.5years after a draft to decide to place on their 40man roster? Just doesn't seem right. Between the ML 25man roster and then 15 more to make your 40man of which slow to develop draftees from 3years ago can become exposed to rule 5 selection? That reads as 8 of Milw's top 10 selections of which one of them Strong is on the 40man. So the team stands to potentially lose 4 of Jungmann,Bradley, Lopez, Gagnon, Ramirez, Reed, and Goforth? at a minimum if they added 3 of them to fill their 40man with those 7? I would have thought Milw controlled them from Rule 5 until next offseason. 5 of those names are currently ranked in the Brewers top 20 Bradley/Ramirez with Strong being the ones not in the team's top 20 ranks.
  8. first one appears to be John Ely on a minor league deal.
  9. The article was about Fall League players. Arcia has been playing in the Venezuelan Winter League. Oh So there's going to be a separate article for the VWL is it?
  10. How is it possible that Callis sees Taylor's slash line and tough player to strike out and place him as Brewers best prospect after the AFL showing Arcia is having? I don't get it. Again watching the Moore video of Taylor at the plate, I don't see it. All I see is a guy swinging for contact with no power to show due to it. .271BA .306Slg. There just isn't any drive in that swing, compared to Arcia's which looks flawless from the side view. I really could see Arcia making the Brewers 25man before the end of 2015 season especially if Segura doesn't get himself above a .700OPS this season. Arcia belongs in not only a top 100 prospect rankings but I believe could be deserving of a top 50 ranking. I don't get what is possibly the knock on him to keep him ranked out of the top 100? or top 50?
  11. Lynn imo trumped Kelly's and Miller's value. They have Wacha/Wainwright with Carlos Martinez+Marco Gonzales...and not to forget reading they are in the running for Lester. A AAA starter in Tim Cooney who reads like Gonzales. Yes not #2 upsides like Miller but more than likely Inning eating #3s/4s as Miller had been performing to. StL. has chunks of money tied in to basically 4/5 players over the next 4/5seasons. They still have many young team controlled prospects advancing and imo room to easily fill 2 more roster spots at 25mil total in FA money per year. They nabbed Heyward+Walden certainly a better combo of pros for Miller+prospect. I really feel the focus is being put too much on Heyward for Miller and ignoring just how great 2years of Walden is going to be for StL. Walden takes on the 8th or even 9th inning role and moves Martinez from it to the Starting rotation without concern of losing something with that 8th inning RP. Walden career numbers: 211ip 169hits 13HRs 254Ks 3.10ERA and a Fip of 2.8. 27years old 5years his Fip has ranged from 2.30-3.02. This isnt your typical year to year results RP. He's been money since the beginning. Again reminder that Carlos Martinez pitched in 2012 to a 2.9ERA in 14starts at AA and a 2.51ERA in 13 AAA starts in 2013. They aren't going to miss Shelby Miller vs. Heyward's fielding+batter potential+QO offer draft pick compensation forthcoming. (Jenkins replacement) StL is a better team with this deal and they haven't lost anything in making it.
  12. I'm a Butler fan. He's helped my Fantasy teams quite a bit prior to last season. Yes he didn't have a great season this year. But taking his worst previous 5 seasons triple slash line not including 2014 and you get: .289/.361/.412 that's the worst of his triple slash lines. A .773 OPS. Being a DH with a .289/.361/.412 slash is he a bad deal for 3/30? Looking at the A's OB players last season it would go D.Norris-.361, Josh Donaldson-.341, John Jaso-.337, Coco Crisp .336, Brandon Moss .334, Jed Lowrie .321, Josh Reddick-.316 Seems to me Oakland now has someone to fit in their Cleanup/#5 spot after Donaldson or Moss. Seems like a perfect A's player and deal to me. Oakland doesn't have to use him on the field just be a DH and his bat which is above average over his history. It's scary to think how good Oakland was with a bad DH this season and then upgrading that spot with Butler? Far less likely to falter late in the season with him.
  13. It's arb money which isn't just going based on last season's numbers. Gotta make it up to him for paying him 500k-ish for 3 seasons. Of course that's reading that statement in today's money. Yeah thinking what the general pay was 15years ago that is crazy.
  14. Boom Haas Great story find. Obviously a potential to look for now as a Brewer pick either as a 1st rd or a above slot top 7 rounds pick. Im reading that he's a 93MPH FB on a 6'3" frame so more projection left on the table. A Curve at 72-78 Change at 79-83 Slider at 78 Taken from PG: Kyle Molnar is a 2015 RHP/OF with a 6-3 205 lb. frame from Aliso Viejo, CA who attends Aliso Niguel HS. Very nice athletic build, filling in and physically maturing nicely. Easy balanced leg raise delivery, good pace and low effort, throws under control and repeats his mechanics very well, long loose whippy arm action. Selected for the Perfect Game All-American Classic. Steady low 90's fastball, topped out at 93 mph, outstanding fastball command, owned the outside corner to both side hitters. Advanced change up with big fading action. Shows feel for his curveball with good depth and command. Pitched like a big leaguer this outing, very mature use of pitches and location. Impressive performance. Good student, verbal commitment to UCLA. Drool. FB command+advanced change up?
  15. But they Traded AWAY the slot bonus. Meaning they have 850k Less to spend on international signings. Or, if they do go out spend a bunch in 2015, they are paying 850k more in penalty and have a lower cap to work with before losing their ability to sign during the period in 2016. Whats' weird is I don't recall the Cubs trading away money slots like this amount in 2014 when they obviously should with their limits. Yet now they do when they are free to spend again?
  16. Taking from MLBTR: Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria has confirmed the signing of Stanton to a 13-year deal, reports Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald. Loria called this a “landmark day” and noted, “It means everything to the franchise. We have a face of the franchise for the next 13 years.” Loria said he expects Stanton to be a Marlin for the next 13 seasons. “I did this for the city, the fans, for Giancarlo, our team, for myself and for baseball,” Loria told Navarro. SELLING POINTS. 13years face of the Franchise, for the city/fans/Stanton/Marlins/MYSELF+for Baseball. Forbes Valuation of the Franchise was 500mil March of 2014. 2011:360mil. with this blurb: The skinny The Marlins are scheduled to move into their new, $515 million ballpark by the beginning of the 2012 season. The team is contributing only $155 million of the domed ballpark's financing, with taxpayers funding the rest. Although the county will own the ballpark, the Marlins will get revenue from suites and advertising that they currently do not get at Sun Life Stadium, which is owned by Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. Forbes has been showing for years that the Marlins have been among the most profitable teams in baseball, but politicians who voted for the publicly financed stadium said they were surprised to learn that the team was making so much money after the Marlins' financial documents were leaked. Owner Jeffrey Luria had been lining his pockets with money he has gotten from the league's revenue-sharing system instead of signing good players. Politicians could have saved taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars with a little more due diligence. Watch Loria make 650mil selling the team after this year or the year after. Whenever he completes his next big extension of Fernandez or Yelich. Sorry I have such a hate for the guy and the stadium deal and how everything is playing out is so easy to predict. He kept team payroll under 60mil making 20+million yearly since 2006 Covers only 30% of his stadium cost which again 360mil-500mil valuation is his entire cost to get the stadium on his end to begin with. Free money...hundreds of Millions of $$ being given to this guy running the team strictly "For Myself"
  17. To think the Cubs were the front runners on signing Martin prior to Toronto stepping in and signing him. Solid Catcher but I don't believe he's special enough to get this kind of money. Anyway since the Cubs didn't waste 15mil for 4 years to sign him, it means they have 15mil to put elsewhere in to likely better money spent. A Yasmani Tomas. A Jon Lester. James Shields. Max Scherzer. As to Toronto and signing a Canadian Born Martin ie something to give fans to cheer about, Toronto could be looking at the Pitch Framing, getting better than expected numbers with Martin catching the likes of Burnett/Liriano and others. They have what Marcus Stroman/Sean Nolin/Daniel Norris/and Aaron Sanchez? Quartet of Young Starters that Martin's Leadership skills and ability behind the plate can make them excell to another level? It's likely better for them to groom those guys with a Catcher for 5years moving forward vs. Navarro next year and then someone new after that. Again, I don't like the 16+mil AAV involved for a Batter who hadn't batted above .250 prior to this season since 2008 when he was 25. You take away his 2 best offensive years and he's essentially an avg bat with plus Glove. I feel this deal is made with the Starters in mind. And the fact that Martin is Canadian, Toronto is banking on making up a few million on that contract in added Jersey Sales, Navarro or any other non-native Catcher wouldn't net.
  18. Probably a Solid deal for both teams. Though I think the Cardinals win this deal big time. Heyward+Walden+Comp Pick after 2015 for Miller and a coming off shoulder Surgery upside Pitching Prospect Jenkins. Look, Walden may be a cream of the crop RP acquisition this offseason after David Robertson signs with a team. Cardinals blew how many games late last year? They also get a high upside RF who they know will be QO'd after the season and receiving a draft pick. Which if I'm them, I'm assuming I'm turning that in to another Shelby Miller to begin with. Shelby Miller has the upside and team control but he's also very Yovani Gallardo. Struggles to make starts in to the 7th inning and often times is pulled in the 6th inning. It can be disappointing to watch all that talent just struggle to make through 6ip and turn it over early to your bullpen. Cards now have a better bullpen and can turn to someone who on paper with Miller can turn in the same kind of Starts 5+Ip. 1-3ERs. Atlanta to me gets a SP with upside that maybe pitching in the Pitcher's friendly NL East turns 5+IP to 6+IP/7IP consistently of equal 1-3ERs. It sounds like Atl is on the verge of either transitioning to selling too so there's always the Miller flip that can happen if he lives up to being a Front-Line Starter. Does Jenkins become a stud or a flame out dud? He throws hard enough you figure for Walden you at least get back you value lost in RP with the upside to be something as a Starter. This deal to me makes StL much, much more likely to be a 95-100 win team next season and in the process really handcuffs Milw's honest hopes to put together a run in the final seasons of Lohse/Gallardo/ARam/Lind before watching them leave with nothing to show for it. IE this trade should force Milw in to a Rebuild mode. Just wait for the Cubs to gain an Ace in the FA market+ another quality arm to rely on. Pittsburgh is loaded. Milwaukee may play lights out in 2015 just to make 74wins in a division they are just outgunned in. Best in all of Baseball.
  19. I feel as if Boston signs Sandoval. Keep Bogaerts. Cecchini is going to front line a trade for a better deal than the Brewers can give. Lohse/Gallardo to me aren't going to entice them from giving Cecchini away. I believe other teams can offer a better SP for 1year or 2years of team control for Cecchini that Milwaukee can't match(of course offering Peralta or Nelson would match up equally/better but what do you want? Pitching or a future 3b?) Brewers brass really has no where to go currently. They are either too Super in talent with Gomez/Lucroy/Peralta/Braun or not talented enough to warrant consideration. Davis/Gennett/Lohse/Gallardo. Segura can't be moved because there's no replacement. It looks like the team has to deal Gomez and net a SS/CF/3b/1b/SP 2 of those. Then Deal away Segura to gain another position. And proceed from there. Don't deal Gomez first theres not much to like about any kind of trade scenario. It's like 2013 nobody wants the players the team is willing to deal. They aren't worth the asking price.
  20. It's foolish to get behind the car drunk. At the same time, he's in the D-R driving around a 2014 Chevy Camaro new and likely paid for with one of his recent paychecks(he hasn't made the big money yet) So I can see in his mind depending on the area he's in, not wanting to leave behind a car of that magnitude to get a ride. Only to wake up the next morning to go get it and see it gone or stripped. Just a young sould who finished his 1st MLB season and let himself loose out on the town. Good chance he was showing off that new car as part of his night. The GF 18yrs old She's not going to be any smarter when it comes to alcohol and what her body can handle nor Oscar's. Everyone here has to have a relative/friend they know who's been in a wreck due to alcohol. I've had more than a handful that I can think of and somehow they managed not to die or kill someone. I learned by watching my brother attempt to reverse park a car in our driveway when I was 18 and watched him hit the side of our house/ the neighbor's fence and the side of the garage in the process. We're talking a matter of 30-35feet of distance. That was my wakeup call at how pathetic you can become at driving a car while being drunk. Some learn, Some Live and then learn. Others die in the process of their first learning experience.
  21. Great deal by Tampa Bay. 2 HS aged minor leaguers with upside for someone who just isn't putting it together while getting expensive. The Prize here is Williams. Who reads as a younger Lefty Khris Davis only better defensively. Likely a borderline future top 100 prospect just too raw to list at this point. What this trade does for me, is give me an idea on what Gallardo/Lohse would be worth in trade. Those 2 are certainly a better pitching option than Hellickson imo and give me hope that if a trade were to happen involving those 2, the team stands to pick up a nice Upside Player+ to groom the rest of the way to the Bigs. Williams a 52nd pick in 2013(MLB had him ranked 90th before the draft) pure power upside I'd think the team could latch on to a top 2 round pick from either 2013/2012 who has upside/shown some of their potential meaning ahead of Williams today.
  22. Seems like Quintana is the kind of player where some organizations might just really like him as a flier with upside. Maybe they think they can fix him. I think I read a BA article after this trade and what was said was Wren impressed the Brewers Scouts/brass when playing against Huntsville this year. So maybe Quintana impressed a single Braves Scout to suggest he has every bit of a chance to come out to Wren's value or higher. As to why not make it known he's available? Maybe they did. How would you feel as a Braves fan though if you made that public you're looking to trade Wren's son? This seems more like a downlow move. Maybe it came up with discussions of another trade? A Lohse or Gallardo trade and Wren was named as a player they want to move in such a deal. Remember, news broke of Quintana being traded but not for whom immediately. So again downlow it becomes the PTBNL Wren.
  23. That's pretty generous for a guy who hasn't even hit 40 HR in season yet. I just don't get the hype I guess (hype meaning Hall of Fame caliber talent as opposed to just a fantastic, top-10 OF that any team would kill to have). 37HRs two years ago in 123 games. 37Hrs this year in 145. His 162 game averages would list him at 39HRs. He hasn't hit the 40HRs Yet. They're coming. Don't forget he's resigned to playing in the big NL East ballparks not HR friendly. He's also had a nobody batting behind him generally for protection. Casey McGehee, Logan Morrison/Marcell Ozuna, Carlos Lee/LoMo/Ruggiano/Greg Dobbs, Dobbs/LoMo, 2010 had Helms/Ross/Paulino/Pitchers! It doesn't really look good in regards to having protection in the Minors pipelines. It's going to be McGehee/Ozuna for some time barring a FA signing at some point. Or via Trade. Still, this is a HR hitter in a Pitchers park with HR stats comparable to Braun who had Fielder/ARam as his protection. The 40HR seasons will come, I mean hell, Victor Martinez just hit 32HRs at the age of 35 after never hitting more than 25 in any season prior. He's going to have some crazy single season HR year where 50+ wouldn't be surprising. His avg true HR distance of all 37 were 415feet. 484, 470, 469, 466, 463, 457, and 450 foot+ HRs. 7 450plus HRs. Other names with multiple 450 plus in 2014: Justin Upton 477/457 Edwin Encarnacion 457/455 Hunter Pence 456/454 and Billy Butler 453/451 He had 7. Only 4 other batters had multiples and none of the reached higher than 2. That's the Hype about him as a hitter.
  24. My only concern in the contract is the fact that it is coming at a time he just sat shelved for the remainder of the season due to being hit in the face near his eyes. There has never been a bad word said about Stanton's Power/his ability to barrel a ball. Everyone ooohs and Ahhhs about the sound he makes when he hits a baseball. Personally you're looking at a guy who likely hits 50HRs a season if he played at Miller Park vs. where he does in Miami. Wouldn't you want to lock up a 50HR a year guy who's power is unquestioned long term while he's 24? I think it's safe to say he's going to hit 400+HRs through the next 13years....if there's nothing wrong with his vision. And I actually feel bad for just saying 400+ because I'm likely cheating on the easy side. Should gamble and say it's very likely he hits 475+HRs in 13years. If he were a Brewer I'd say 600HRs if not more. He has Legit HOF Power. BRef has his Age 24 comparison to include one Frank Robinson. Now I've said this since it happened but the rumor was put out there that Jose Fernandez hasn't been willing to come to an extension in the talks for one. He's likely in a year to year test FA. I believed that when the Stadium was built(funded mostly by the public) the rush up of Fernandez in 2013 that the Owner Loria was positioning himself in the exact manner Bud Selig did with the Brewers. To tank in to good draft picks, get the stadium, identify Franchise players and extend them and then proceed to Sell the team for max profit. Some new ownership group was staring at having this stadium, a Franchise Power Hitting OF+ Franchise Ace SP in Fernandez that are being attempted to have lengthy extensions such as Stanton's to market after buying. Throw in Yelich plus Kolek down the road? Meanwhile Loria made max profits spending $0 practically to run the Marlins since he sold off Reyes/Ramirez and the bunch. If Fernandez isn't extended before the end of next season, watch Yelich have a lengthy extension done before the end of next season. Anyway end rant, this kind of deal is the footwork to show Miami fans the organization is going to build it's payroll and position themselves to win....just the real FA spending won't happen until Loria has sold his 158.5mil investment/ownership to that new group likely in the 600-750mil range due to that stadium+Franchise player having. One of Bud's Guys getting filthy rich w/o having really done any good for the sport.
  25. I don't think theres a G.Stanton Topic about his rumored Miami Extension. I mean I get it look at what he's done at his age and so on and believe he's worth what? the 12year 300mil deal? What I don't get, is did they just ignore the fact that Mike Fiers beaned him in the face near his eyes? How dumb will it turn out if Stanton has eye issues or Batter Box issues and you give him this guaranteed contract and he's now a Mike Olt?
