  1. I think it's a pretty sure thing there isn't an answer out there at 1b. Clark/Rogers it should be in 2015. Why pay Millions to get .650-.710OPS from the available 1b out there in FA when you have two from your minors that can do that? 1b in MLB are terrible for whatever reason right now. Prospects are flaming out barely able to bat .200. Since that is the case go with Clark and Rogers. Put in perspective via MLB.com top 10 rated 1b prospects: 1.Dominick Smith- .683OPS in Afull 2.Matt Olsen-117BBs .262BA .947OPS in A Adv. 3.Casey Gillepsie- .774OPS 20th pick in this year's draft! Ranked 3rd in 1b prospects 4.Dan Vogelbach-.268BA/ .787OPS in A Adv drafted in 2011! 5.AJ Reed-.289BA/.898OPS 2nd rd! selection this year! 6.Christian Walker-.288BA/.846OPS 7.Peter O'Brien-.271/.910OPS 8.Travis Shaw-.278/.826OPS 9.Max Muncy-.264/.764OPS 10.Jesus Aquilar-.304/.905OPS Of those 10 hit tools ranked Above 50 are: Smith,Gillepsie,Vogelbach,Reed, and Muncy. Smith and Muncy have 40grade Run tools. Everyone else is 20 or 30! Smith is only one to have above 50grade Field Tool. So Smith is the only worthwhile prospect via Grades yet he's the worst of the entire bunch with a .683OPS. Yeah it's bad. I'll look up the ML 1b situation in alittle bit.
  2. Christian Yelich was one of the ten best pure hitting prospects in the minor leagues before this season. If Clark reminds us of Yelich at all next year, I'd be really happy. I don't see it, though. We're just excited to have somebody who's not pushing 40 who's not completely inept at first base. I hope Clark gets a fair look in spring training next year, because we need an improvement there. We can't go three seasons and not have that position at least tied down for the next few years. Bring in somebody who we know can play first, and provide some good offense. No more Lyle Overbays please. That signing smacked of desperation. If Clark gets the chance next year, have a real contingency plan in place if he gets hurt, or if he's ineffective. Well I do. But again it was based of one game's ABs. I saw a lot of Yelich early in the year while I was living in Miami and just thoroughly enjoy his swing and approach. Yelich has a Batting Title in his future. Just saying that Clark reminded me of Yelich in swing and approach (going to any field where the pitch needed to be hit) Now, I'm not saying Clark will have Yelich's success, as how good is his eye vs. Yelich's? But I feel he can approach some Yelich-like numbers with that swing of his.
  3. Turning this franchise around is simple. You have to draft and/or trade and acquire a Front of the Rotation SP. The Carlos Gomez for Archie Bradley thread/idea being an example. Then you also have to have an Elite Bat in your #3 or #4 in the lineup. We had it in Braun with PEDs. Now? I don't know. Lucroy is as close as we can claim. For all that's being dissed on the Franchise's state, the way to turn this franchise around, the pieces we need we seemed to have drafted/signed what it takes. The hopes are in Kodi Medeiros, Monte Harrison, Gilbert Lara, and maybe Jacob Gatewood. How would I go about doing it? First I'd fire all the managers and Melvin and start fresh. I don't have an answer to who becomes GM or manager. Then my first moves would be to trade Carlos Gomez(hoping to get say a Front end SP prospect in return...Astros anyone?) I'd run out Parra in CF next season then. Can probably pick up some serviceable RH CF somewhere to be #4. I'd try really hard to trade Lohse or Gallardo(if picking up his option) Save some Payroll and use it towards a Cuddyer/Morse type 1b signing. I'd have my ears open to trade offers for Jean Segura. Orlando Arcia's time is approaching. Bandaids for SS til that time happens in the meantime. Keep in mind you're trying to sell high on his 2013 season/young age still. His 3+WAR year in 2013 is going to end up being his BEST ever season in his life. Replacement level SSs aren't dropping the team longterm when trading Segura. That's about it for Player decisions this offseason. ARam holds the 3b decision and I can't make it for him. Then the new GM that's hired is one who takes a win with Draft approach. He's going to be good at putting together a new scouting department. Big emphasis goes in to HS scouting and Latin Scouting. Almost exclusively. The College players I'd have scouting would be the HS kids the Scouting department liked while watching them in HS who either chose College or weren't signable. Otherwise, it's a HS building philosphy with the draft. (I know I'm going to get blasted on this) But. Drafting and signing HS players and hitting on even 1 every draft would go a long way. As their Youth being 3-4years younger than the College aged players would provide longer net rewards for that successful pick. Also, Hiring the best Scouts possible and reducing the workload for them from Best of College and High School to just a focus on best of HS. I feel like you're then using your resources more efficiently with just that focus. For example, rather than say 100 scouts split 50/50 HS/College It's 85-90/10-15 split HS to College. Heck, maybe instead of having 100scouts it's 65scouts covering HS and only 10 in College. Your staff is only 75 large saving money on personnel and/or being able to put more personnel in to the Latin scouting. What this does too is rather than pouring over Say 5000 players to choose from and argue over who to select. You reduce the number to say 3000 to choose from and argue over to select. And maybe with all the HS scouting you really just have a draftboard of 100-200 players. It's easy to stick to your plan, you get the HS players you like and never get caught up in a College player who falls down to your picks and making the mistake of selecting them vs. the HS kid you were ready to select. (Victor Roache/Jed Bradley being recent examples) Then I just sit back and wait for the rewards to come in.(I know someone will say well Then there's no Ryan Braun selected you're missing on someone like that. Well guess who's in the 2005 Draft with Braun out of HS? Andrew McCutchen 2nd HS'r selected after Braun's pick(Cameron Maybin1st) with Jay Bruce being the 3rd.)
  4. No one mentioned, but why in the World did they Start Overbay vs. Clark? Vance Worley with an 82pitch 8inning outing? This the pitcher who couldn't pitch 5+ his last two outings with 90+ pitches? Worley is a pitcher this team should just crush and we are Maddux'd instead. Embarrassing.
  5. brewcrewdue80 said: 2010- Good. Nelson/Thornburg make it successful. And The majority of players picked after Covey haven't had a single impact to date. A little bit of a contradiction here based on your previous remarks from the previous draft. No it's not. Failing to hit on Arnett/Davis while surrounded by hit picks. Those were 1/2 in draft picks. 2010 They hit on 2/3. I look at the draft as how well did you do with your early picks rds 1-5 vs. the competition. That's where the majority of ML players are coming from. The Brewers had a 0% chance of signing Fernandez as the only teams that had a chance to sign Fernandez in that draft were the Marlins and the Rays. Fernandez didn't want to play for any team besides a team that played in Florida. Cj Cron is a DH as I am not impressed with his defense at 1B think Prince but worse defensively at 1B. Gray is probably the only player that I would have picked over Jungmann/Bradley on your list. The Brewers did try and sign Abreu and were just outbid by the White Sox and the money that went to Garza would have been going to Abreu. The Brewers more than likely thought the risk of Abreu being a bust was higher than what they were willing to pay him. I am going to assume the Brewers offer capped out around $10m a year which was slightly over the amount I would have been comfortable with compared to the risk of Abreu being a bust. You also stated this when Abreu was signed by the White Sox: Source on the Fernandez claim? If Milw picks him and offers him the same money or more. He's refusing that? Because that is such a risky move. Now he has to go to College/Juco throw for 1yr-3years then go back in the draft and what? Wait for TB/Mia to pick him. When he's selected by a different team then what? Pretty sure he'd take the money and play. As for Abreu, yeah I hate the amount of money being tossed to these international players. The writing was based on that with Richards/Fernandez/Gray and no Gallardo/Lohse/Garza heading in 2014 the team would have had more payroll to throw at Abreu fixing a 1b hole they have. The Pitching talent the team would have had, I think the risk on Abreu being that of 60mil to offering 66-70mil, Would be none in MA's mind. Again, no Gallardo/Lohse/Garza= 34.75mil this year and 36.5mil next year to make their 10mil/year offer upped to 11/12mil. The team would have been ahead 20+mil this year/next than they stand currently. +their 17th pick(Tim Anderson#83 prospect/Chris Anderson Promising/Marco Gonzales-Already ML action/Jonathon Crawford-Promising as 4 picked/likely selections) Look at it like this with my to 5 rounds as a determination of quality of a draft and not so dependent on the later rounds. How often do Prospects from after the 5th round make a dominant rise through the Minors to the ML team in 1-2.5 seasons? Enjoying the Gennett/Davis picks are nice but that was 2009 and 4years later making appearance on the ML team. And yes Gennett/Davis are positives of that draft, but it's only with the bats. As been stated in IGTs Davis might have the worst arm in MLB for an everyday OF! How long will his Shelf-life be? He may be a Bench player in a year or two if his bat doesn't keep him viable as an everyday OF. I like Gennett, but say let him face a Lefty, and Squashed! He's an under .300 OPS hitter! So we got ML players, but we aren't dealing with ML AS-types. They will never have a season in WAR like Carlos Gomez or Braun have had. Ever.
  6. The Brewers drafted Roache and Coulter in 2012. In 2013 they selected Devin Williams in the 2nd round and they were without a 1st round pick due to Kyle Lohse. Yes dumb late night writing, I am off a year on most of my post. Will edit it later...
  7. 2009:Fail. I don't believe you give a passing grade on that draft class with Fiers/Gennett/Davis being late round finds. Players available instead of Arnett/Kentrail Davis: SS-Nick Franklin,Chris Owings RHP-Rex Brothers,Garrett Richards,Brad Boxberger,Tanner Scheppers 3b-Matt Davidson LHP-James Paxton,Tyler Skaggs That's a lot of Talent missed on. Right in the area where they picked. 2010- Good. Nelson/Thornburg make it successful. And The majority of players picked after Covey haven't had a single impact to date. 2011-Disgusting Failure. Not Starting for your Milwaukee Brewers, Jose Fernandez and Sonny Gray. How about CJ Cron a 1b pick? Where was the plan ahead of 1b future? And it's early there are a lot of talented players to come whom the Brewers could have taken. At this point we appear to be ending up with a bust and #5 SP/Spot Starter/RP When there are top of the Rotation arms already pitching, and better talent to come than the ceilings of both Jungmann/Bradley. What if the team drafted Richards,Fernandez, and Gray in 2009/2011? Gallardo would be gone(traded in 2013) Garza/Lohse not signed and the money instead used for Jose Abreu. 2012- At this point too early to factor. 2013-A bust just because of 2009/2011 failures in SPs, we had to give up the 1st rd pick to acquire Lohse. Roache doesn't appear to have either his power or hit tool to make it at this point. Coulter Minor League POY. 61games at C/64games as DH. The word out there is he won't stick at Catcher/ 61/125games only caught? Makes me feel that will be true, and/or say he should stick at Catcher, how well is his bat when he catching Daily over a full season? .287 becomes .245 and .930OPS become .775...maybe? Can't believe with 64games as DH he didn't get used in the IF at 3b/1b At All! 2014-Calling it a success but we secretly know it was due to Greg Vaughn going Rogue and selecting Gatewood/Harrison on his own! I get that many teams miss on draft picks. I just look at 2009/11 seeing the picks and who was available/selected the next few names and it just boggles me how they absolutely found 0ML players in Arnett/Davis/Bradley/Jungmann vs. the AS types that were there and/or the everyday Starters emerging if not already secured at positions.
  8. I really like his swing from the 3 ABs I've seen 1HR. He actually reminds me of Christian Yelich in the box who's having a very solid year at the plate. Really just appears to be a bigger stronger Scooter. Since I like Gennett, I like this guy. Feel like he can grind out some abs and at least put the ball in play in any direction. Looks far better than Overbay at the Plate.
  9. That is weird. Any mention by Roenicke of this after the game? I'm guessing not, but it seems curious. Holmberg =Lefty so they played Maldonado at Catcher Lucroy at 1b. But I'm sure the comment was intended vs. a RH RP. Anyway, this RH Filled lineup full of sluggers should have destroyed a soft 88-90MPH tossing LHP! 2hits?!! Pathetic! We had a LHSP that should have had a 4ip line of 6ERs, this was one of the easiest matchups they will face in all of September a AAA callup who is just getting a show due to injuries. This game should have been won by the Brewers on paper if they would actually take a few pitches vs. swinging at every offering. Gomez! OMG, Corkscrew swing after Corkscrew swing, then a laughing at K by being so far ahead of a 73mph curveball. The team's batting approach makes them look like Single A guys that have no chance of ever making it to the Majors. Just swing for HRs! Get the game over with as quickly as possible so we can hop on the bus to the next town. Can every single Manager! All of them. Then don't even bother hiring a manager for 2015 let the Players manage themselves. Can't be any worse results.
  10. I think I may ignore the posters who argue against Gennett facing Lefties. Ya'lls story is late, tiring and pretty poorly backed up. Keep acting like 1AB vs LOOGYs on a weekly basis means he's worthless vs. LHP. Ignore his much better numbers vs. LH SP the I dunno 2 games he's faced against them. My God, Lets Platoon the Entire 8man Position players!
  11. Jean Segura will play SS for Milw in 2015. 100% positive of that. When the Hitting coach/Manager are canned soon, maybe a fresh voice/approach will do him some good. Don't see the team giving up on him in preArb still.
  12. No I'm serious, I would immediately think the Brewers had a 10game lead on the division if Abreu was starting at 1b in the 3/4hold of the Brewers Lineup. Via Bref: Abreu has been worth 44! more runs than expected avg with the Bat. Overbay/Reynolds are a combined -6Runs with the bat in the category. 50runs better with his bat. .325 RISP on the season. If I made the lineup having Abreu It'd be Gomez,Lucroy,Abreu,ARam,Braun,Davis,2b,Segura,SP Rather than hide your 1b down in the order you're having a monster bat slugging away #3 with ARam/Braun to then follow? Lucroy+ARam have been the only Brewers who display clutch tendencies this year. As it stands today were talking 10games up to 6games back. Know what that means? 8Losses that are instead wins on the season. So yes I believe in what I stated. Abreu would have won 8games we lost instead because of having Overbay/Reynolds bat at 1b. Edit Ok looking at the standings today, having forgotten how hot the Cards have been 10games isn't feasible today. But with that 8game turnover we're at 82-63 and I'm going to give 1 of those 8games Lost to being vs. the Cards dropping them a game down. We'd be up 3.5games at the moment then.
  13. Fixed that for you. An AL GM that signs Weeks to be their DH deserves to walked off a cliff. Nothing about him gives the DH impression. I'm not sure Weeks plays Baseball next season.
  14. Hold on. That comparison is of the halfway point in a football season 4-4 and you're looking at that being of use to the Brewers Current situation? GB finished 11-5! Hell beating Dallas the very next week most likely squashed any and all Fire TT/McCarthy just because the team beat Dallas. The Brewers are Desperate now. Trading for Broxton shown that Aug 31st. Putting in countless numbers of RP claims in Aug was desperate. They've gone from virtual Playoff lock(97%+) I believe in a predictor before this collapse began. To now being as close to picking 12th again as they are winning the division. The Brewers are dangerously close, now, after this epic collapse, to taking a huge step backwards with the fan base. If they bring back this same roster, essentially, with the same GM & same manager, it is going to be an extremely difficult sell to the fans. The Brewers could lose a significant amount of money next year. I see Mark A as having 2 choices: wholesale changes in the player roster including unprecedented dips into free agency, or cleaning house with the front office. The fans need to see that the 2015 Brewers won't be the "same old Brewers" What 3&2 said is absolutely correct. For the same reason in 2013 I was optimistic in 2014 this Brewer team can compete is going to be the exact reason why I have zero faith they'll compete in 2015. It's the Same team, that finished with the 11th worst record in 2013 and is heading for the 12-14th worst record in 2014 by adding just Matt Garza/Davis/Gennett The only way this team succeeds next season is to be rid of 2 of the Swinging 1st pitch hitters Gomez,Braun,ARam, and Segura. 2 of them must be gone to start 2015. Now the Fan's answer is easy, get rid of Braun/Segura as they are by far the biggest disappointments of the 4. But the GM in me says, Gomez/ARam are the ones that can be traded/ that will be wanted. Or MA makes the cleaning house of the FO decision. Now I look at the FA landscape and this becomes my prediction. Gallardo's option isn't picked up. ARam's is. No FO changes. Mike Morse is given a 1year 10-14mil contract solving 1b for next season. Braun is forced to have surgery. The team adds a RP with Closing experience to be the 8th in guy behind Broxton as Closer. The team either wins early like this season to then make a major addition trade to win in 2015 or is completely torn apart before July 31st taking with it Roenicke then, and Melvin at the end of the season. Say bye-bye in that scenario to Gomez,Braun,Aram,Lohse, Garza, Broxton, Morse. The team gives Lucroy an extension then with it's newfound payroll along with Peralta. Waives Segura after the season. And 2016 we see Taylor/Arcia/Lara/Davis/Gennett with 1b remaining a black hole. As being the core to build upon awaiting Harrison/Medeiros/Gatewood to arrive.
  15. http://www.baseball-reference.com/games/standings.cgi?year=2014&month=6&day=27&submit=Submit+Date To put it in perspective. 4th worst record in Baseball since 50wins.(Texas,Colorado,+Minnesota) But while we won .387 win pct the Pythagorean only has the team at .412 in that span. which amounts to 1 single more win and 2 less losses or 1.5games difference. The pythagorean numbers also list the team as the 3rd worst team since 50wins. (Texas + Cubs, with Colorado/White Sox a close 4/5) 2nd best record in baseball to 4th worst. Via Pythagorean 5th best record to 3rd worst. And we actually maintained a division lead from June 27th to Aug 31st! Just 9days ago.
  16. Worst Collapse Ever. This year's collapse has the 2nd wild card to fall back on to make the Playoffs. We've gone and not only blown the Division/first WC/ but now the 2nd WC spot. That is all that's left for a glimmer of hope to regain it. Never, ever did I imagine we'd lose a WC position a few weeks ago. We had the Cubs games to count on(swept outscored 17-5 that have lost 4 straight since being outscored 28-7!) plus Cincy/Cubs to finish the season. A bunch of winable games that now? I'm banking on the Team to lose most of them. On Aug 19th the team was 71-55. 5th best record in Baseball. 2.5games ahead of StL and 4.5games ahead of SF for 2nd wild card spot. Even the 25th at 73-58 they had the 6th best record in Baseball, 1.5 ahead of StL, and still 4games ahead of SF for 2nd WC. 1-12....16th best record in baseball today! 10teams have jumped us in win pct in 13 games. 6games behind StL/4.5 behind SF and 1.5 behind Pitts for 2nd WC. 6 vs. Cincy 3 vs Mia, StL, Pitts, and Cubs remain. The team won't finish finish last but a real chance to finish 4th under .500 record and an ironic 12th pick in the Draft for 2015. First to 50wins on that date we were 12.5games ahead of 12th worst record in Baseball. No doubt we are on the way to having the Worst record in Baseball since June 27th as Tampa had 33wins at .402 win pct on that date 82games in to the season. if we win 32games from that point 32-48 we at least attain 82wins on the season. Can Milw even get to 80?
  17. 4 days, 4 games with 2 runs or less Scored. Yep. We have a great Hitting Approach!
  18. Every Loss in a row here adds 10% probability of him getting fired. I'd say we're at 30% after that sweeping of the Cubs. The only pitching matchup that appears in our favor vs STL is the Fiers vs. Lackey matchup. Can easily be swept vs. the Cardinals and be 7games behind them after Sunday. And Miami isn't a cakewalk team having Yelich and Stanton to mash against our pitching. If the losses pile up and we're not selling out every game of the Reds series because the team is out of the Playoff picture....It's over. Johnny Narron will be the first to go here if the team doesn't put together some 4 or more run scoring games vs. StL. It's embarrassing to have scored 2runs or less for a week straight now. And StL has the Pitching to put up 0s on that scoreboard. IF I'm right and Narron is canned here shortly, then Roenicke/Melvin's jobs are on a very Hott seat.
  19. So I looked at the standings in the middle of the game. The Cards have taken over the Division lead this past week, While having a Negative Runs Scored differential! And as it stands now. Is this historic in that Pittsburgh leads the Divisison with +8 run scored differential? That potentially(Real potential) the ENTIRE division will finish with a Negative Run Differential? That right there makes this all the more horrifying! We had a major lead on the division and are Blowing it to Mediocre teams?
  20. The Pirates lost 7 in a row in early or mid August I believe and the Pirates again just lost 3 straight to the Cardinals. So your first statement is false. Roenicke has about a .001% chance of being fired even if the team loses every game this month. Nate the day he posted that it was true. No other team had more than 2 Losses in a row. Still the worst team playing in Baseball in the past 15days.
  21. Can we hire Manny Ramirez away from the Cubs in season?
  22. So, out of curiosity, can someone post the 1b stats on the season(with link to come back to) and then post last year's 1b stats? Failing miserably to get a 1b the offseason was bad, but then not finding one at the trade deadlines was worse. The fail was not signing Morneau or Morse for that matter(who's WAR would likely be nearing 3 by not playing in the OF) It's maddening to think what might have been by winning the Abreu lottery signing. 33HRs 99RBI .983OPS.... :'( Would we be oh say 10games ahead in the standings at this point?
  23. 2 Days. 2 runs or less games.
  24. Putrid. Inexcusable run by this team. Do they even have a clue they are in the Playoff race? Hey Why doesn't somebody tell them they are in the race for a top 5 Draft pick. Then we'll play .545 ball!
  25. This is the time Weeks goes Yard in games.
