  1. You go on the 500k/550k/600k/750k salary since he wasn't going to earn a year service this year so the estimate before he reaches arb. He instead will have 7.5mil in his pocket by the time he gets to his 1st year arb. Which let's just guess is at 4mil(vs. 2.5mil) Then 8mil(vs 5mil) and 13mil(vs. 13mil) his final arb year. I honestly don't see a huge savings by Houston. Why would the MLBPA complain on this deal? Now, if Singleton took this deal to begin this season then there's complaints but he was just weeks away from the added year of team control/non-super 2. He pretty much secured himself money that he likely would get going through arb. The only difference is Houston saved a few mil on Arb years 1+2 to pay a little more this year. Deal seems legit to me, Singleton got to come up right away and begin his career while earning 1mil more than he would otherwise.
  2. H&T You seem to think trading "for" Estrada is a move to win. It's not a move to win for either Philly/SD. They're losers. The idea is to provide depth under both current team's situation at the cost of a FA to be Bench player(ie selling) or a C prospect that may or may never make the Majors. Trading that prospect for 1+seasons of Estrada. This entire discussion is about Nelson taking over Estrada's spot. Rather than just put Estrada in the bullpen you trade him to make the roster spot for Nelson. If it's adding a bench player that player likely means waiving one of our weak bench players. I did suggest he can net a decent 1b/3b prospect but his recent starts aren't helping his value. The HRs are fine so long as he's not walking guys like he has done lately. The whole point in trading Estrada is you're just not trading him to a winning a team. He's going to be a move to a losing team that has use for him next season at the back end of their staff and also to get through this season w/o burning in to Prospects service time who aren't ready.
  3. So far so good I guess. ChaChing,Chaching money being added to spending pocket for the big 3.
  4. Sneed/Stokes aren't seniors so there has to be enough money thrown at them to get them to sign. There's 1,091,000 of money on their slots at stake. Sneed being previously drafted in the 11th rd and the 140 rank? would mean he should be able to command something like 350-400k at minimum of the 641k the pick allotment is. I was hoping more the Stokes type pick where 50-100k would get it done potentially and saving like 500k to use elsewhere.
  5. There's no doubt Medeiros will get signed. But if they don't sign Gatewood and Harrison both then I think Seid's job is over. Now just a wait and see how this all plays out. I can't fathom getting all 3 signed if they all seek 2mil. Gatewood at 2mil and Medeiros/Harrison at 1.7mil maybe. would be a sorta guess by me at this point. Remember if they don't sign one they can't take that money and use it to sign the other. Missing on Gatewood would be 1.4mil? I think in signing money. Missing on Harrison would be 1.1mil? I think. And think, the strategy here on out has to be drafting players to sign under slot to get them all signed. Failing on both Gatewood/Harrison and then having a draft class filled with underslot picks ie nobodys you're left with your #12 pick of Medeiros and nothing else to show for it. (I can safely assume somewhere they'll draft 1 more upside guy to fall back on with the underslot money but that won't happen til some time after the 10th rd. This is the slot money by Brewers picks left through the 10th rd: 85:641,800-can't go upside 116:449,300-can't go upside 146:336,400-can't go upside 176:251,900-can't go upside 206:188,800-maybe can go upside 236:159,100-can probably consider upside 266:148,700-can probably consider upside 296:138,700-can probably consider upside The next 4 rounds have about 1.68mil in slot money to find savings w/o losing that money to sign your collective. 7-10 it's 635,300 in slot money to get savings. All told you take the first 6rds of money you have around 6.95mil total to get the three signed with a 6mil target(guess) that 950k doesn't include what money you use to sign those 4 rounds of picks.
  6. 4.5 is just an arbitrary figure. If you believe Nelson is better, does it really matter if he manages to hold is ERA at 4.3 as opposed to 4.5? And I just don't see why either Philly or SD would want Estrada. Philly plays in a sandbox and is 9 games under .500 in a tough division. There doesn't seem to be any match there. SD plays in a hitters park, but why would they want a 31 year old back of the rotation starting pitcher? I think you can get either the bench player OR the C prospect for Estrada, maybe a little more(C+ prospect) from a team like the Yankees who might need a guy for a month because of injuries. SD is a notorious Pitchers ballpark. And they have what? Like 4 of their young SPs on the DL with TJ? Again Estrada becomes an arm(perfectly suited for 1year) to get them through these injuries and at the worst he winds up in their bullpen or traded away again. About Philly and wanting Estrada? Well they can certainly pick up Burnett's option with Lee/Hamels that gives them a 3man rotation. Their #4/5 starters Kendrick and Roberto Hernandez are Free Agents after this season. Seems to me Philly could use filling out a rotation for next season. Heck maybe even just to get through this season. When your teams not in contention a back end guy like Estrada who you can have for insurance for next year as well has to be valuable. Like I said before he goes 6ip(in these pitcher's parks maybe 6.1-6.2ip) Gives up 3-4runs so keeps the team in the ballgame. He has to be a better option than what Philly and SD are tossing out for their #5s today. What's Estrada going to cost next season? 6mil? 7mil? So the back end price is right too. That's why he's a good fit for both ballclubs. Now, I don't know who we can grab from them in return. It appears pretty bleak looking for the C prospect or the bench player. San Diego is the best fit. Between Carlos Quentin/Yonder Alonso/Seth Smith bench guys or maybe a Jesse Hahn or Cory Spangenberg.
  7. All Arcias are hot. Lil brother Orlando had 4 hits for Brevard tonight. I wanted to throw in there if he Played Milwaukee everyday he's on a 81Hr 324RBI pace! I then look up his numbers and find out he's now played 15games on the season. didn't know he's been on the DL this season figured he had 5RBI in like 30 games played this year and just about tripled that in the 4games vs. Milw. Davis. I said at the end of yesterday's IGT thread him missing yesterday cost us that game. davis@6spot in this lineup currently? Just a omg potent lineup!
  8. At this point Brwrsfan I don't think there needs to be another ML potential pick. Milw picked 3 1st rd talent. Do whatever it takes to get these three signed. What's the minimum required per signing? 20k? 38 more rounds so there's 760k of the 7.6mil pool. Leaving 6.85mil to sign these 3. There's just not going to any more exciting picks after these 3. And I don't care. You want to draft players who will make the Majors and not just make it but also have impact. these 3 do that. Don't give me 1 impact guy 3 potential ML guys, 3 if everything goes right bench/RP guys and then 33 never heard ofs. for a draft. if you can get 3 Impact guys and 37 never heard ofs to do so.
  9. If you go with MLB's rankings overall All three slot in behind Nelson with Gatewood now #2, Harrison #3 and Medeiros #4.
  10. There goes Verdugo my other pick I had for Brewers at 41/50 with Varga. Of course that wasn't with a little draft strategy magic to get Gatewood/Harrison+Medeiros.
  11. LOL Texas with Tiquan Forbes Hey you're a great talent. Take a seat you're #9 on our team's SS depth chart. There goes Varga to TB. Great Pick I promise you! Amazing looking delivery imo.
  12. There's a thread devoted to him probably 6 threads below this one. You'll find out. 10 topics down to be exact from the pinned thread.
  13. Wow and Whoooooooooooo!!! 3 HS upside guys. I'm telling you Kodi pick gives the Brewers around 600-800k to work with on signing these guys. And they can just go get more money here with crap picks here on down. These 3 are HR picks imo. Finally this group gets it how to draft for the future!
  14. Wait, so a GS by Arcia and the 3run HR yesterday? +1 more RBI. He has 8RBI in 2games 13 for the season! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Toronto has to love Foley there with Hoffman in the future. Going to be exciting for their fan base. Edit:AHHHH Commercial break!
  16. I don't think there's going to be enough money to sign either. 2mil guys at 1.1mil slot. I feel the Cubs will get one of them based on their first two selections. They will have a lot of money to go out and give 2mil to one of them.
  17. My original call at 41/50 Cameron Varga...He's still available
  18. Wow Justin Twine. I just seen the swing. :O That reminds me of Braun.
  19. Gatewood wants to model himself after Troy Tulowitzki. That's why we're thrilled with this pick!
  20. With pick 50 if it's an upside guy then you know Gatewood could be had for around 2mil. If it's a wth? pick then obviously Gatewood is commanding 2.5+mil and they are taking the savings from both 12/50 to get Gatewood at 41.
  21. Greg Vaughn went rogue, vetoed Seid's pick. LOL'd at this
  22. Yeaaaah!!!! Gatewood!! How's that for Upside? TY Kodi!
  23. Wow so Foley, Gatewood, Harrison are available HS best availables. Gotta be excited if we get any of those 3
  24. Okay here's where Kodi's pick can be advantageous. Next best 5 available are now: Foley@18, Gatewood@22, Harrison@23, Fisher@26, and Adams@27 Adams@27(ahead of Kodi@29) now falls at best available at 41 for Milw!
