  1. 1-1 (HOU) =Brady Aiken. No Brainer here that delivery is spot on consistent and Of any pick in this draft, he's by far the safest with the high upside 1-2 (MIA) =Tyler Kolek Don't believe the falling stock. This guy has too good a delivery with his size and the FB at 100? This is a pitchers league, batters aren't good vs. velocity. Sure-Fire Ace is what that means 1-3 (CHW) =Alex Jackson Missing out on Kolek/Aiken the Sox take the best position bat to boost their system 1-4 (CHC) =Carlos Rodon Best available pick here. Cubs wanted Kolek wanted Jackson. They'll sell Rodon as the hyped former #1-1 projected pick as a great value to get at 4 and they are lucky But Rodon's future is one that likely doesn't turn out as being top 12 from this draft. 1-5 (MIN) =Nick Gordon Area of need in the organization and Gordon is the perfect fit falls right at his value on the board. Twins luck out 1-6 (SEA) =Aaron Nola This is a fast track pick for Seattle. They are in a win now process and adding Nola to their rotation possibly by the end of 2015 only helps that 1-7 (PHI) =Touki Toussaint High Upside talent here. There's excitement with this pick and Phi goes for that vs. the safer College pitchers on the board 1-8 (COL) =Kyle Freeland His pitching has that suits Coors field feel to it. Thus Colorado goes for it with the pick 1-9 (TOR) =Grant Holmes High upside pick here with Beede/Newcombe/Zimmer yet to be picked it means they wil get to choose from 2 of those 3 for sure. Holmes may not have made it back to them 1-10 (NYM) =Sean Newcombe Best available pick you follow your board this early. No position player?!! How will the Mets ever score runs. The Dickey trade showed how. Harvey,Gee,Niese,Wheeler Two of these guys will be traded before Newcombe climbs to the Staff so there will be a need for his arm 1-11 (TOR) =Bradley Zimmer The comparison I recently heard is of Christian Yelich. That's a top of the Order bat with solid tools all around. And a pick Toronto is sure to sign easily 1-12 (MIL) =Jeff Hoffman The talent at 10 on down is tough to differentiate. What wasn't tough was that Hoffman was above 10 prior to his TJ. No Holmes, No Toussaint, The Brewers as in 2012 in drafting Roache, take the guy who never had a chance being there for their selection had he not gotten injured prior to the draft delaying their progress. The bigger part in this selection is that Milwaukee can potentially save a little money while drafting a top 6 talented player. It feels like a no brainer with two picks at 41&50 to try taking that savings and draft a player later with 1st rd talent (but a deep draft causes them to fall) on their 2nd/3rd picks and are capable of signing them. This is a fairly down the line to rankings draft no real surprises. With the draft pool and money allotment I don't think teams get tricky with their selections, at least in the top 12. It's not like KC last year where they had a top 10 pick and then 34th to play with.(seeing Manaea fall) Just not happening this year. KC has the best ability to do something weird again with their later selections but that's after 12. If Toronto had a QO comp pick or a competitive balance 1st rd selection they get crazy but it's 9/11 then 49. Not 9,11 and 30-38.
  2. I am leaning towards a Chavis pick if we can't nab Toussaint or Holmes. (I know I've dogged them, but I don't want another College Pitcher at 12. There is more bust than boom potential in them) Maybe by selecting Chavis the team saves some money and gets another guy who falls with either of the next 2 picks, or both! What you start wondering is does a guy fall due to signability and then with money saved on Chavis the team can go get that guy. The Crew could easily take a guy who falls big and pick him at 41. And then take a College guy at 50 and sign him below slot as well. There is a problem though trying this in this draft. Kansas City has 3 picks before the Brewers pick at 41 so they can easily do this plan and ruin it for Milwaukee. The Marlins have 4 selections, 3 before Milw picks and the 4th at 43 another blocking team. It really looks like Milw will have to draft the best player available on the draft board and on that draft board now, in the 10-18 range in rankings, I feel like 6 of them are going to be busts or just Replacement level players. Wow how sad is this. This really blows that we won 1 more game to go from 8th to 12 in the draft order because you look at the draft order and with Toronto having 2 picks right ahead of Milw and then KC having the 17th,28th,40th and Miami having 2,36,39 It just really squeezes Milw's potential to try anything creative. It's probably a 100% lock their picks will wind up as: Beede,Hoffman, and/or Finnegan. 3 College Pitchers. Or Turner, Conforto, Schwarber,Pentecost 3 College Hitters. All of them have warts one way or another and when you add the warts with their age, I just see bust or age 25/26 of reaching the Brewers. We just wind up picking where the draft board is nothing but College guys. The HS guys Foley,Hill,Chavis,Gatewood,Harrison,Ortiz(sigh my favorite) run in the 17-25 range. and the kicker why I mention KC/Mia squeeze Milw Picks the other HS guys Griffin,Medeiros,Wilson,Davidson,Gettys,Sheffield,Kopech,Wall, and Gatto fall in the 30-40 range which is where KC/Mia will squeeze us with their creativity. We'll probably end up with Luke Weaver at 41 and finally get our HS guy at 50.... This whole draft we wind up so unlucky because the Hoffman/Feede injuries drop them from being picked ahead and Ortiz's injury concern drops him to in between our picks. My thinking is Chavis paired with Lara means for a 2b/3b of the future tandem. Since we won't pick down to a HS pitcher like Ortiz or Foley. Man I really don't know who I want based on projections I just like guys in the 20ish range more than the 8-17range.

I see this graph and it honestly tells me Estrada is better than Gallardo. His numbers are trending awfully in the wrong direction. Swinging Strike rate at 6%? Overall Strike rate at 59%. I said it last year and it's showing to me again this year. Gallardo's future is in the Bullpen. He now doesn't even average 6IP a start So he's requiring the Bullpen to get 10outs on average. It's one thing if he's inefficient with his pitches but has an ERA near 3 or lower. It's another to be inefficient and have an ERA above 4 as he does now. No way do I pick up his option barring a return to 3 in his ERA or lower and THAT IS NOT happening. He's a #4 SP scouts know this the whole Baseball world know this. You don't pay a #4 13.5mil.
  4. Well that's true now. The last post was back at the start of this 17-4 run by Toronto? I think they were near last prior to it. Why limit ourselves to Bautista? Why not just go after Edwin Encarnacion? Let's get a 1b who has 40hr+ power With .275+ba ability.. Anyway moving to reality. If Toronto is in the East division running my guess is they trade for winning pieces now vs selling. You have to if you're them don't you? After that Marlins trade and Dickey trade. Make it all worth it with a WS win so trade Stroman(who's getting showtime to increase value) to a team for what they need. Maybe its a SP or a 2B. What else does Toronto need? I mention Stroman because he reads as a future RP more than a future Starter ala Thornburg. And Aaron Sanchez is the prospect they need to save.
  5. Thanks I knew it wasn't the 1st rd, but just pointing out, if you're comparing Pentecost to Lucroy pre-draft in projections moving forward, how does Lucroy last past the first round and Pentecost is a top 15pick in this draft class? To me that reads Pentecost isn't a first round selection at all but comparing him to Lucroy and Lucroy's success has risen his draft stock to top 15 because he's riding Lucroy's success as outcome in selection. Not his own tools projecting as a non-first rd selection. How many prospects with Lucroy's tools never even reached the Majors? I don't want a Catcher selected in this draft at #12. I'm sorry they just aren't overly valuable to me in a draft selection. You can find mediocre catchers yearly via FA. You It's too high a draft pick to take a Catcher. If you take Pentecost @12 he better project 100% to be a perennial All-Star. Nothing less. A 2-3WAR annually by him instead I'd call the pick a failure. Pass.
  6. That would essentially be making the argument against him at 12. Lucroy was a 2nd rd pick. In a draft regarded high on potential why take a 2nd rd pick talent with the 12th pick?
  7. Oh, I wasn't aware it was 2years now. I thought it was just one obviously.
  8. For as bad as Wang has been this season, he hadn't allowed 8 runs in a single inning. So again how idiotic is it that he warmed up and pitched Thornburg in this game? This really is a problem to have Roenicke manage a bullpen with decisions like oh say 75% of everything he makes regarding it.
  9. What Roenicke will say. Well I warmed him up, I didn't want to waste Thorny warming up and not use him. Guess he figures with Peralta and Lohse to pitch the next two games, the bullpen won't be needed when one throws a CG and the other throws 8ip Right?
  10. add to the list of stupid things RRR does. He makes a double switch to obviously allow Wang to pitch multiple innings. Then he warms up Thornburg after first batter faced? I'd give Wang 4runs before I warmed someone else up...Maybe even 5. going to add: I'm following Gamecast's location and he's worked from belt high or lower this entire outing thus far.
  11. Let's Go Marco K,K for a QS! Ok a Flyout and then a K works.... Alright I'll take the Flyout and Line out. QS by Marco yip.
  12. Wow this Khris Davis guy is pretty good. edit add: approaching .800OPS for the season. Soon to be above .800 OPS.
  13. Burnitz had an 8-game streak in 2001, but I don't know if that's the record. I can't find the Brewers record but apparently the ML record is 14. He's halfway there. Maldonado with 2hits! Boy will I ever take that! He's doing far better than expected with the bat this year.
  14. I can't figure out how SF is doing so well. Their extremely marginal hitters have to come down to earth at some point. They have more homers than us... I agree on the hitting. But that 5-0 score doesn't surprise me when Bumgarner is pitching for SF. It's nice to see Stl face an Ace because they avoided Tanaka in that Yankees series. Oh plus I rolled with Wainwright in Baseball Challenge. He has I'd estimate a .2 ERA when I don't use him and a 7ERA when I use him
  15. How does a runner score from second on an infield single according to Gamecast?
  16. Ok. With another double by Davis that is 7 straight games with an XBH. What would be the Brewers' Franchise record for consecutive games with XBHs?
  17. Garza's contract is still a very good contract imo. It's 4years with a 5th option. What pitchers remain 2 years from now on our staff? The only one for sure is Peralta. Nelson you hope. Jungmann you hope. But Lohse, Gallardo, and our topic man Estrada will be gone barring extensions. The results haven't been fantastic by Garza but maybe the manager doesn't know how to take the ball away from Garza seeing signs Garza is spent. Garza's last two starts he was cruising through 6 vs. Atl, and had pitched very well through 6 vs Bal. The Atlanta fiasco happened in a game I would have rather seen Garza get himself out of it and instead he had 2 inherited runs allowed tacked on to his line. The Baltimore game signs to me he was wearing out, struggling making his pitches, Roenicke instead left him in and he gave up a 3run HR. I honestly think Garza is close to being what we paid for. He'll clean up some of his mistakes/ be managed better and settle in to an under 4ERA give you 6+ip pitcher. As for the bolded part in the previous reply, Paul, you feel Garza will hamstring the Rotation options? I don't. I think Garza opens up the Rotation options. Now Gallardo/Estrada or maybe even Lohse are tradeable. Garza has pitched in the 7th inning (with one in the 8th) 6 of 11 starts. You need pitchers who can go more than 18outs on your staff. Gallardo has pitched in to the 7th inning 4 times but only once did he complete that 7th inning. If we can pick up Gallardo's option then trade him? I'm not going be disappointed with that move because we have Garza. Also the concern of it being one or two years, Garza has had injury issues of late, you sign that 2 year deal, Garza misses 25 starts you really wind up with a deal that you paid too much for. At least with these 4years plus the injury option, Garza can go through an injury and you still get your money's worth if not more in production. Nelson needed more time in AAA vs. getting the rotation spot. Gallardo/Estrada/Garza all had injuries last season. Looking how our pitching has performed vs. Garza's line and how well Nelson has developed it's easy to claim the Garza signing hamstrings our rotation options. But if Nelson was wild in AAA, Estrada failed/got injured along with Gallardo/Thornburg and Smith doing badly with rotation spots, we'd be standing here saying all it would have taken was signing Garza to a 4year 50mil deal to avoid that predictable outcome! I'll take what we have currently. A solid 5man rotation with a 6th in waiting. And 2 starters who are in the Bullpen whose stuff plays up to being quite dominant bullpen cogs. We're 32-22 and I don't see this team's weakness if healthy to worry about one phase of the team failing to see through to a 90win season. The pitching is there, the hitting is there, the bullpen is there. It's awesome to not stress out about the bullpen or the lack of pitching finally.
  18. Come on Splitter, you can do better than that. It's like you took all the ties to clubs in recent mocks and decided to go against them all. Jackson to Miami? Trea Turner/Touki picks to Toronto. Has to be flip flopped because Toronto must sign that 11th selection or lose that pick. They also previously drafted Beede and Nola. I find it hard to see Beede slipping by them especially with that 11th selection. I get Pentecost to Milwaukee if Holmes isn't left available. But he is so Milw will take him, Holmes has to be higher on the draft board than Pentecost you can't deviate from that. After Hoffman and Beede's selections I can't really argue for or against those picks. I don't think Hoffman falls that far I cant believe Anaheim or Arizona would pass the chance to grab someone portrayed previously as a potential #1 selection. And Beede already said, Toronto will take him, having been on him before. I liked your previous versioned mocks. I know you have one more mock yet in you...the 1-12 thread!
  19. That's remarkable trade. So I've been reaping the benefits of picking up George Springer. I generally kept him on the bench early then played him as soon as he hit his first HR. He's hit 9more in 20games with 20+ Rbi. In one League I dumped top hitting prospect last year, Wil Myers. He's just been awful. Myers promptly hit a HR for the first time in 21games the very first ab he's no longer on my team...lol
  20. Who's going to give up a pick or bonus pool and keep him on the roster? That's the problem with any potential trade. First you have to find a team that likes him enough to give that much up and they have to be willing to keep him in the majors. We're better off just keeping him because chances are your offers aren't happening. The Cubs. They have 3.96mil in international pool money to spend. But after their over-spending last season they can only spend a max of 250k per player. Based on that limit Chicago would need to sign 15.8 international players at their max allowed to achieve usage of their allotment. So no doubt in my mind the Cubs will most likely be where Milwaukee trades to get the bonus allotment they need to sign Lara without penalty. They can attain 50% of their 2.611mil allotment so that comes to 1,305,500. Remember Wang is considered by the Brewers to be valued about the tail end of a 1st rd. draft pick. Now going in to this year's draft you're talking approximate value of 1.3mil being tied to Miami's 2nd rd pick this year. #43. Quite simply it works out perfectly for Milwaukee and the Cubs. Who if they can stomach Carlos Marmol for half a season, I'm sure can stomach Wang to finish this half a season while picking up a more advanced pitching prospect than what they can buy with International slot money. Edit add: I surprise myself sometimes when I come up with a smart solution that is just like, whoa! of course, how did we not figure this out already? Now Maybe this kind of deal was already planned out behind the scenes. It's been known/rumored now for how long on Lara? What if Epstein approached Melvin with this idea way back in the winter meetings? The Cubs didn't select anyone in the Rule 5 draft(likely had a full 40man) And knowing their international spending limitations, offered Milwaukee the max 1.3mil Milw could get in pool money if they selected and held on to Wang for the 90 days limit(doing all the work for Chc) and then they make the trade. At 90days the Cubs as we all know are far out of the playoff picture. They could easily make roster space for Wang then (when Samardzija is traded for one) that they couldn't do in the offseason to protect their own farm system in the rule 5 draft. I think its it pretty good theory lol
  21. Wang has never come in to the game with the score tied. He relieved Garza in the 4th inning one game down 1 giving up 4runs(5 if I recall an inherited runner plated) And then he came in down 1 in the Braves game with the team staring at Kimbrel set to close out the game. Kimbrel the man who had faced the team twice to begin the season to the tune of 2ip 0hits 4ks. Now Kimbrel wasn't used that game but then two games later he closed out a 1run game vs Milw to the tune of 18pitches to K all 3 hitters. So his line now sits at 3ip 0hits 0BBs and 7Ks vs. Milw this year. Just goes to show you Pitching Wang that day down 1 wasn't affecting the outcome. Now one could argue he affected the outcome of that game he replaced Garza in by giving up 4more runs vs. shutting that team down, but really it's on Garza for giving up 5 Runs in an ineffective 3+ip start. I do feel Wang is costing this team gas money on the bullpen. He's pitched twice this month. A better RP would have likely seen 8-11 appearances I guess at minimum. So that's 6-9 extra appearances our bullpen has spent on gas money. This for the supposed "long man" who should give the bullpen multiple innings of relief when used. So potentially 6-9 appearances could cover 10-15ip. Wang isn't the one who's going to go on the DL with Dead Arm. It's going to be KRod/Smith/Thornburg who does down the road. Now you can begin adding the Wins Wang cost us on the season. Even though he won't be responsible for costing us a win in any single game he appears in.
  22. Alright Crew, I didn't mean to attack our prospects that way by saying disposable like I would just dump in the trash. My point was that if we were to make a trade in July this team does have prospects that some other teams would want. Our farm system isn't completely devoid of prospects that make us completely unable to make a trade come July. I thought that was what Bnowell was suggesting and I was just listing prospects that I believe are at our disposal to make a significant trade if Melvin&Co. wanted to work out one. Suggesting the draft selection was also showing that Melvin&Co.'s mind could work in a manner to justify trading away any of my suggested disposable trade pieces. Didn't have to write up that big to do about our team's mass overpay for Pitching in trades....We have pitching. The biggest need if reading through this thread was for an offensive upgrade, either for Davis, at 1b, and at 3b. Pitching like Grienke, like Garza last year they are what teams overpay in prospects for over and over. For the Brewers they have their starting 5 with #6 just roasting in AAA til a spot is opened for him. Since we have pitching covered, I don't expect the Brewers to need to use top 50prospects to make a significant trade. Since their significant trade will be for a position player. Alex Rios was a significant traded player last season and he's one having been mentioned to target. I'd certainly believe Jungmann could get Rios in an instant because Texas is so Pitcher starved. I'll throw a name out there. Daniel Murphy. Does Murphy portend to be a player the Mets would require a top 50 prospect to get? If say 2 just past 100 prospects were offered in return? They're an OF hungry team and I'd imagine Taylor or Roache could land Murphy a LH hitting Utility 1b/2b with team control through 2015. Now to me Murphy would be a significant trade come July. The Brewers could send Gennett(Weeks?) and Taylor or Roache in the deal. Murphy takes over everyday 2b duties Replaces Overbay as the LH bat platoon at 1b(if we kept Gennett) Getting Murphy and sending away one of Gennett or Weeks while disposing Overbay would open up another roster spot for either the Bullpen and/or a better offensive bench bat. Meanwhile you also have either your everyday 2b or 1b next season depending on if Gennett is included in trade. Oh, I didn't even consider Estrada as a potential pitcher to send the Mets way whom, as mentioned elsewhere would be a nice fit to pitch in the Mets Homepark. Could you part with Roache and Estrada for Murphy?
  23. Disposable prospects to have traded away could be:Taylor/Arcia/Roache/Coulter and Jungmann. Now as fans following our team we are sick at the idea to trade away this future talent. Coulter and Jungmann seem the easiest to tab in trade due to their success thus far this season. Taylor/Arcia are projects with potential to pay bigger dividends if you take the chance on them at Prime (CF/SS) positions. With Roache I was wondering if his numbers were of Platoon usage but thus far he's doing better vs Righties than Lefties. He is having a respectable May thus far in 18games a .261/.292/.536/.828 line with 5HRs A trend in a better direction that continued in June in to July likely increases his trade warrants. Who knows how the Draft board goes? We could select Max Pentecost a seemingly better overall Catcher prospect. Draft a Conforto/Zimmer OF Or a Chavis/Gatewood making any one of our OF/MI prospects expendable. We get Holmes/Touissaint, Jungmann is expendable. I don't know overall how any of those names rank compared to our own current prospects but MLB has every one of the draft prospects an overall 55 rating while none of Milwaukee's prospects that are expendable are over a 50 overall rating. So it would seem whomever the Brewers take at 12 this year will immediately be the Team's #1 rated prospect. Now I guess this is in response to any high profile trades meaning Sabathia like. Just remember LaPorta didn't pan out, Rob Bryson never made the Majors, Zach Jackson was terrible in his stint in the Majors. It was the PTBNL Michael Brantley who's provided any value in return to Cleveland in that trade. Laporta was a #30ish ranked prospect at the time. That's it. that's the only top 100 prospect involved in that trade. Visiting Scouting Book current ranks are: Taylor #154, Roache #161, Jungmann #188 Arcia #268 Coulter #317. Now, it's pretty safe to say there will be around 30-40 in the ranks graduating off Scouting Book by the Trade Deadline. Which makes Taylor/Roache/Jungmann near consideration around top 100. And Arcia/Coulter imo will climb here especially if the Brewers move them up a level. So, to me I see prospects that can be on another team's radar that could garner a decent Rental for the run. Certainly not Stanton ability but he's an elite guy where 20 of them exist. After those 20 you never know. You combine all three of Taylor,Roache,+Jungmann in a trade? You certainly have the means to attain the 2nd tier elite.
  24. Done Pitchers seem to bottom out around 87-89 when they lose their original FB velocity? So Estrada has gone from 91 to 88. Will he continue on to 85-86 in a year or two? Or am I right that the drop in velocity settles at the 87-89 range?
  25. Agreed on the HR concern that it's not as big a thing as it appears. His last start with 4HRs he was spotted a 7-1 lead to begin his 5IP. I've always been upset when I watch pitchers run up 3-2 full counts when they have leads like that. Just pitch to contact. Jones Golfed the 4th HR on a pitch low and in off the plate. It wasn't a down broadway pitch. Batters win sometimes. Estrada pitched in to the 7th inning. FWIW, this is a guy who is harped about his 120ish inning limitations as a Starter for a season He's halfway there on a 186IP pace overall. Team is 6-4 in his starts. And like I said previously, every one of his starts he kept the team in the game/competitive. The numbers I like is he avg less than a Hit per inning given up and he's almost avg a K per inning. To me with those two statlines, he will continue keeping the team in ballgames he starts. That's far better than most #5s on a team. Some NL team has to want Marco after this season. I'm going to sit back enjoy him improving his trade value with each Start he gets. With each IP over his previous season high and grin ear to ear knowing a fine prospect is coming our way.
