  1. Well Eye Black Ortiz was "injured" missed a few starts and that scared people away. Early in the year he was around 10-14 in rankings. And I just knew when his injury concerns happened my favorite SP for the Brewers to select was going to go later. At least it wasn't to Pitts/Cincy/StL. Edit add: and to think King Felix was attached as what he resembles at HS...maybe a little ahead of Felix at this point in his career. Like Really? How can any team pass up a King Felix compared SP? That's like #1 pick and I'm telling you this guy will be a top 6 out of this draft overall in WAR when it's all said and done. Fun time 1min selections! Yes let's get to 41 that much faster!
  2. Crap, Crap, there goes Ortiz. Texas. makes sense. Nate Davidson was the 10th best available in between the top 5 and in my scenario best 12 selected he would be gone. One more below next 11 best available and he falls in to that available for Milw @41 for @36 value.
  3. Okay 12 picks to go to get to 41. Top 5 remaining via rank are Foley@18 Gatewood@22 Harrison@23 Ortiz@24 Fisher@26 If all 12 best available are picked the next 2 available are Justus Sheffield@39 Jaxson Reetz@40
  4. Haha he said in predraft he compares himself to Jered Weaver/wants to model his pitching after him. Then said he'd love for them to be bruhs when asked if they were related and the answer was no.
  5. There goes Chavis. 16 value is 467k below 12 17 value is 605k below 12 21 is almost 800 k below 12. Would you as Kodi really say no to 2mil or 2.1mil gambling that the draft works to where you get selected better than 21 in order to even command 2mil+? There's only 8 teams to select you in that scenario and again he's ranked 25-30. Not 15-25 where he can figure he's guaranteed 1.8-2.1mil Cards Select Weaver! Yes. I'm not impressed as said earlier this is a pick by them I think won't pan out! Not Luis Ortiz!
  6. So let's face it now. Luis Ortiz will land with StL. And turn in to a complete Adam Wainwright clone.
  7. Brewers didn't pick Medeiros because they were trying to save money for #41, at least not that we know of. Whatever happens with the next two picks is irrelevant. To them it may have been Kodi was top 10-15 on their board. He was ranked around 25-30th end of 1st rd in rankings. I'm going to guess there was a talk about what he'd sign for and it had to be below the #12 slot value. There's no way with who was available the Brewers selected Kodi to sign at 2.8mil. Like I said in his ranking area that projects at 1.8mil. How could Milw not go to Kodi say hey we like you would like 2mil to go 12th to us or take your chances with the rest of the teams in the draft? 2mil tied to having to go 21st. This when he's considered 25-30 in rankings. The Brewers will sign him below slot. Trust me.
  8. Well Holmes is gone at 22nd pick. 19picks to 41 And now, you don't see falling in the draft currently. Next 5 on the board are Foley@18 Hill@20 Chavis@21 Gatewood@22 and Harrison@23 For the Kodi pick to work out the Crew need to get a top 27 on the board player. There's 8 left that qualify and 19 picks to go.
  9. We're at #20 in the picks halfway to 41. Holmes is still there. So is Zimmer. So is Foley and my favorite Ortiz. There's money saved with Medeiros and I'm waiting for the top 30 guy who falls to them they end up selecting at 41(hoping of course)
  10. Explains why I'm not upset with the pick. We got a ML pitcher hopefully as a Starter, at the very least we have a helluva LH Reliever. There's zero bust in this pick which I couldn't say about the majority of the College guys there on the board and Toussaint too. Holmes I believe makes the Majors but is he anything but a #3 guy?
  11. Here's the general ranking on Kodi 25-30. Money slot value there is 1.76-1.9mil So the Brewers must, must save at least 600k signing Kodi if not 750k. How much that impacts the 2nd/3rd pick will depend on who falls in the draft. This could be like 2 # 20s in this draft and hopefully its both HS players with upside when doing this.
  12. Sigh. I'm actually not very disappointed because Kodi was kinda the guy I liked that was just in that 15-25 meaning we wouldn't pick him and I didn't like the 10-18 area of guys not expecting Schwarber/Conforto/Pentecost getting selected leaving the trio of Newcombe/Toussaint/Holmes I did say in video I didn't like toussaint/holmes due to pitcher precense/flatter FB+control issues for both. I'm okay with this pick. It's a LH HS pitcher something we can use and you know what? He or Foster Griffin were the best available for that distinguishment.
  13. If we go with Kodi then we better be getting nearly a 1mil discount on his signing to do so.
  14. Yes!!!...but who do you pick now? Newcombe at 6' 5" Toussaint at 6' 2" or Holmes at 6' 2" Can't miss here can we?
  15. So 2 of Newcombe/Toussaint/Holmes will be available when Milw picks. How do you rank them? Just like that?
  16. Hoffman can't command top 12 money. You gotta realize he's out for a year+. So he returns just in time for next year's draft without having anything to show for drafters. And he'll be a senior so he doesn't have any kind of argument for money offered. He could go 1-1 and only get offered 1mil. What's he going to do say no? He's out of professional baseball if he does. Conforto! Toussaint or Holmes will be the Brewers Pick! at least one of them
  17. Yes!! Hoffman didn't fall to the Brewers pick! This really improves the chance on Holmes/Toussaint picks HS arm we need to select.
  18. All I know is that with Schwarber gone it increases the Brewers chances of getting Holmes/Toussaint currently. Maybe even tabbing Freeland or Newcombe.
  19. Wow, wow Schwarber 4? If he's going to play 1b doesn't his size concern you defensively? 240lbs? What happens when he comes in to camp at 275? DH spot that doesn't matter. But to me I would worry he adds too much weight.
  20. SRB, that had to be some kind of spoof smoke and mirrors on some troll's end. Kolek to me with Aiken either or were 1A/1B meaning the other was going second. I'm surprised the Sox just took Rodon at 3. The hype on Jackson made me think they would select him as the first position player in talent. not the 3rd Pitcher(rank-wise) in talent.
  21. It's not just bad the Brewers chose Overbay over Francisco. It's that the Brewers failed to trade Francisco to a team for any kind of prospect. And I've been harsh about Juan. I don't think the Crew planned on playing Overbay very much and he just has with ARam's injuries. How good would Juan be as basically a bench hitter? Toronto has played Juan more at 3b, Remember we would play him at 1b where he has to physically go out and catch balls thrown his way. Not really a case at 3b. 203innings at 3b 60 chances. 25innings at 1b 24 chances. That translates to oh 136 less chances at 3b to 1b in 200 innings. The bigger issue is the Crew should be mad they didn't keep Juan for 3b/1b backup and just sign Reynolds at 1b fulltime. They approached it as Juan 1b option only with Reynolds likely 1b/first in line 3b when ARam went down. This will be fixed tonight when Milw sign Morales and waives Overbay the moment Kendry is ready to play on the ML roster.
  22. Just posted in the IGT on Estrada. You don't replace Estrada until his ERA climbs above 4.5 on the season. Though Estrada is allowing more BBs recently so that trend could also dictate giving Nelson the call. I think Milwaukee keeps Estrada up until he's traded later on. Philly or San Diego appear to be fits currently with their records/home parks. I could see swapping Estrada for a Bench player+C prospect given that Estrada can start for those two teams next season.
  23. This game is lost because Khris Davis wasn't in the lineup. Why would you not bat him 6th behind ARam's return? Then Reynolds, Weeks and lastly Overbay. The righty vs. Lefty situation? Come on! This is a stretch Milwaukee needs to win games. They're playing the weaker teams and StL is struggling. Really need to take advantage and increase the Division lead. It could have been 10games after this stretch of opponents below .500 record. Now that kind of lead you can give a day off here and there when you see players need them w/o question. Davis has had such a hot bat, to take that out of the lineup for matchup situation? And this in a game where you have a DH! Sigh why do managers do something that you and I could easilty spot as being wrong! About Estrada, 3Run HR doesn't happen to often on him. Happened after an open the inning Walk which at 2.8BB/9 doesn't happen often. He went 6ip gave up just 4Runs. What's the problem here? What kind of line is Estrada supposed to put up? I know 7ip and 1ER right? no 2ER is better. Nobody should have a problem with Estrada so long as Gallardo goes out there with 5IP 4-5ER starts. That's the pitcher who Nelson should replace first not Estrada. The Brewers are getting everything you expect from Estrada. That 3Run HR almost wasn't a HR. We'll give a run for that inning and it's 6ip 2ER if that ball ends up foul. Everything else Estrada has looks good in the stats just the HRs given up is a glaring problem. I just have more faith that HRs is something a little easier to see reduced vs. what Gallardo's struggles are. And Nelson isn't a sure thing. Maybe to post Estrada/Gallardo's line for the season, but then where's the upgrade? Nobody here can honestly say Nelson will allow under a 3.5ERA being inserted in to the rotation the remainder of the season. Why ruin the potential value Gallardo/Estrada can give themselves for trade value any time from now through the offseason for a 3.6ERA maybe 6IP SP Nelson over the 4ERA approx 6ip Starters in Gallardo/Estrada?
  24. Yep PoP, We lost the TieBreaker to the Mets,Toronto, and Colorado and with Toronto's non signing of Bickford last draft their 10 pick became 11 this draft taking Milw's 11 down to 12. I just posted my predictions 1-12 in the other thread. I went with Hoffman. When you look at 10-25 on the draft board you really get questionable prospects. Hoffman wasn't a questionable prospect. He falls to Milw and they take him. Now I mentioned way back his throwing motion looks elbow hurting and there's TJ #1 now to it. It's not a matter of question on his ability to pitch just stay healthy. I think there's a small discount on his signing. Hoffman was a 4-7 type pick which valued was 3.3-4.6mil. The Brewers get 2.8 to work with and I think Hoffman can't pass up on a 2mil signing since he won't get to showcase much prior to the next draft to really increase his value. The Crew has just under 2.5mil allotted for their next two picks. Another 800k gives them 3.3mil Which avg out to 1.65~34th pick money. Or you can go 2mil/1.3mil ~21st money/our 41st money. There has to be a few guys who fall in this draft in the 10-25 range that become signability problems for teams. Picking Hoffman not only adds talent but gives Milw that ability to sign a 2nd 1st rd talent(17? 2.2mil) Which you can sell as We liked the fact we got Hoffman a top 10 prospect on our draft boards at 12 while the money we saved signing him gave us the ability to go get another 1st rd ability kid. So Hoffman has potential outside his injury but if the injury holds him back, we feel we still got a 1st rd pick to work with out of this draft. We'll take 2 for 1 on the ability to work out, and if both work out this is a complete HR for this draft. Let's just say Hoffman plus any of these HS kids that if they fall you wind up selecting who felt value-wise as they fell College was going to be better: Derek Hill, Chavis, Monte Harrison, Luis Ortiz, Jacob Gatewood, Spencer Adams, Kodi Medeiros, Foster Griffin, and maybe Marcos Wilson. Can you add J. Bukaukus/Gettys two guys who appear College bound that at 2mil. you sign away from that idea? That scenario playing out there's a lot of HR potential with this draft. The Batters:Hill,Chavis,Harrison falling would definitely give the Brewers the best of both worlds. A top 10 SP and a top 12-20 Position player drafted. Of course my dream scenario would be Hoffman-Ortiz tandem. But Miami/KC/even Pitts as mentioned earlier give me the feeling they'll get him since they can make money moves as well with their picks to give Ortiz what he commands.
