Random MLB News And Discussion 2013
brewcrewdue80 replied to hawing's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
And now has a 4game hitting streak with a HR and 2 Dbls in it. Someone coming off an Oblique injury and having a rough start can be expected. He's warming up. I'd take a bet his WAR ends up above Replacement level by end of the season and wouldn't blink. -
Because the idea currently is that Gomez is untouchable, I think trading away Aoki can result in a good return. Segura turns to Leadoff, Gomez bats 2nd and the offense doesn't miss a beat down the road. I wanted Weeks and ARam traded badly last season and it hasn't changed this season. I like ARam don't get me wrong, it's just what his contract does to the team's payroll and knowing that we lack any kind of 3b Prospect. It'd thrill me to get a 3b prospect. Here's what I seen last season that I see playing out this season: KRod once again becomes closer and Henderson takes on 8th inning role. Both are expendable as closers this way in trade. It just seems destined Roenicke wants Henderson as his 8th inning guy now. Weeks gets everyday playing time. Like KRod and Wolf last season, every chance you get to show some glimmer of turning it around by these guys and hope some team takes notice and makes a trade offer. Yuni's time came and went and I wonder what Toronto may have sent our way for him in the midst of his run. Now, I see him being trotted out often and losing trade value with each appearance. I see the rest of the Bullpen remaining in tact. Gonzo/Gorzo/and Badenhop just don't see them having trade value. Figaro has become seemingly a go to guy and I cant see why trading him at the moment for a 2ip reliever on the roster. You just know Hart will be traded but it probably lands a bottom 100 prospect. I'd take it. He lost his value with the injury and this offseason/last season's trade deadline was the clubs time to trade him. Missed it.

Time to trade Gallardo?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
The only problem comparing Shields to Gallardo is the amount of CGs Shields has for his Career. Which offered a clear Cy Young consideration 2 years ago? I don't think Gallardo is in the same class as Shields. You're looking at Gallardo having more BBs than Shields in over 500IP less pitched! Sure he has higher K/Rate but still translates as you show a lower K/BB ratio. Another problem I'm seeing is that teams you can see trade for Yo kinda happened and went. With what Cleveland/KC/AZ/ have done to go with the moves of the higher payroll clubs. I think the market is a whole lot smaller making the return less. MLBTR had Baltimore in search of a top of the Rotation starter post today with the return potentially being Schoop and Eduardo Rodriquez. Maybe the Brewers get that and one of the low end SPs on Baltimore today? That's more in line what I think the club may be getting for him currently. -

What is the 2014 Bullpen looking like?
brewcrewdue80 replied to brewmann04's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
The Bullpen is looking more like last years bullpen come tomorrow....Welcome back the KRod and Axford show! Henderson to supply those letdowns in the untimely manner when warranted. How long of a leash does he get? 1 bad outing? or 20? as I'm expecting. 1Step forward to take 2Steps back. How is it Loe didn't get signed after the Cubs let him go? -
Random MLB News And Discussion 2013
brewcrewdue80 replied to hawing's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Because in 2010 they didn't have the money used to sign Aram or Lohse available. You can't claim money spent in 2012 and 2013 as money that should have been spent in 2010. The money for ARAM was available because they weren't paying Prince Fielder $10MM+ anymore and the money for Lohse was available because they weren't payinig Grienke, Marcum, and KRod money anymore. If you are going to get mad about not signing FA pitchers I suggest naming which FA pitchers you wanted and how they would have fit realistically in the budget. Drives me crazy when people lament not signing FA's or not trading for guys and then having no plausible deal they passed up or could have made, especially given the FA's are all known. Almost as bad as the rants on RR without offering up a better line up option with the given guys or some drastically better decision that isn't just splitting hairs or using hindsight. I have to look that up to know who was available and for what price. As for the money, I am talking about, if they have forward thinking, rather than sell a cheap asset like Lawrie for 2years of a mid cost SP and then letting them walk. Wait and spend the money on a FA next season. Or at least acquire a pitcher that isn't a 2year rental with what? #3 at best stuff? You say they weren't paying Fielder anymore, well, they could have taken that 10mil Extensions for Weeks or Hart off the books by trading them away to use money on a FA Pitcher if that is what they really wanted. It's just poor roster and money management. Weeks and Hart aren't "Braun" they aren't build your franchise around type guys and should have been expended when the time arose rather than extended for money that could have been used in a wiser fashion based upon the players they returned in trading away those two. That money available for ARam isn't an argument on having the money available to sign him. It's the argument that by trading away Lawrie, the team left itself open to a Gaping hole at 3b and thus the need to sign ARam for that money. Having Lawrie then, the 3b is there and the money is used towards a 1b or SP. Again it's all based on the needs on what the other's moves acquired in return. For all the hate towards Lawrie above he is making 492k I believe I seen this season? Saying Grienke is gone so can sign Lohse. Aram would be gone instead and 36mil would be used these 3 years differently. Again, I would have to look long and hard back at what was available and for what cost. I was pushing for Brandon McCarthy and Jeff Karstens in this offseason though for acquiring and combined they'd equal 1 Lohse in cost for 2 SPs. Yeah at this point it would look fairly bad with the output from McCarthy and Karstens on the DL but the team would still have their 17th pick and Younger Cheaper Pitchers under team control. -

Burnzy I know trwi7 is going off the fact that it was chimed in by at least one Owner or GM I believe, that he didn't even know Lawrie was available for trade talks and that he assumed Lawrie was off limits for trade considerations. You can base it on that, that potentially the majority of the League was under that same assumption...or maybe that was just the only owner/GM who had no idea Lawrie was available. Still it means Melvin didn't shop him to all teams and potentially missed out on a better return. -
Random MLB News And Discussion 2013
brewcrewdue80 replied to hawing's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Hmm like Cameron Maybin? Delmon Young? Youre right he's headed in a path similar to those two. Agreed, but on top of that the fact we gave up the 3b of the future for Marcum of which we had to sign ARam to a 36million contract or more with Option. I guess the club put too much faith in Casey McGehee being their long term option but the signs should have been there his numbers were fluky being so far higher than his minors numbers and the regression 2011 being more near normal expectation from him. It just bothers me the money that is thrown around to ARam/Lohse/Hart/Weeks that if that money is available how come it just wasn't used in the offseason 2010 to sign a FA SP rather than trade away a long term solution at a Corner Infield spot and then using money to fill the spot he would have filled a year later? -
Behold the Talents of Jean Segura
brewcrewdue80 replied to Eye Black's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I was a fan of Castro his first season. But ever since he rubbed me the wrong way as being less than 100% effort when he plays. I see him as being the type of player now that has a goal in mind of 15hrs and maybe 15-25SBs and has no want to exceed it using his talent every single PA. He seems to eat up poor pitchers but has mild PA vs. better ones. And Wow, he's worse this year looking at his numbers than expected! Segura's 3SBs a couple nights ago followed with HR last night and continual .350+Avg, he's just providing 100% effort and use of his talent. It's like a 2nd Gomez only more talented with less cockiness. Which is like Braun. It's almost like the club got a mixed clone between Gomez and Braun to play SS! Yikes! -
Then you don't send him home from 3b if theres a chance of a play at the plate. Again, his Run was only insurance he wasn't the go ahead run. And there's 2 outs. The move made no sense. It's like Roenicke drew up the automatic remove ARam idea late in the game when he gets on base but failed to recognize the use of it in a proper situation. Meaning, was he the lead run on base. With 1 out it makes sense since Braun could have been forced out and thus resulting in ARam being the lead run. But that wasn't the case. And being 2outs that also removes the factor of ARam having to maybe go in hard at 2nd base to maybe break up a double play. His force out ends the inning. So I see no injury risk with 2outs and ARam on the Base paths. It was actually the perfect scenario you could ask for, for the Brewers, in being able to leave him in the game. Roenicke didn't recognize it. You don't.
-
Aramis wasn't important on base. He wasn't the go-ahead run. With 2 outs, if he scores then obviously Braun scored the go ahead run and Aramis crossing the plate is just the insurance run. That's why I don't get the decision to pinch run him there. And saving him from extra inning injury risk? Really? Playing 2-3 more innings is that much of an injury risk? That's bull. This wasn't some 100 degree heat type day where hydration is a factor. Aramis should be good to go no matter how long that game lasted. Yes Figaro is young but thus far what he's done is pitch a whole lot better than Axford. It was 7/16 appearances by Axford giving up at least a run in them and last night made it 8/17. So thus far based on his season, Roenicke should have felt it was 50/50 Axford would blow the 1run lead and Roenicke was lucky he didn't just completely blow up losing the game entirely. As for Henderson vs Fiers. Considering you're going extra innings and taxing the bullpen, leaving Henderson in for another inning to save Fiers potentially for today's game as long relief would make sense no?
-
How many different decisions can we count in tonight's game? Axford for 8th? Dumb. Pinch running Bianchi removing ARam from game with 2outs when Braun is on base ahead? Taking Henderson out after 1ip(11pitches) to put Fiers in? Figaro goes 2ip 9/10. Why is he not the 8th inning guy at this point?

Axford to pitch the 8th? Roenicke? http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ng6zaHbRZ6Y/UOOK01SQ0XI/AAAAAAAAAOM/hkEKHyJ6_ec/s1600/dorothy+brain+had+one+gif.gif -
Especially given the PH possibilities. It's not like we have Matt Stairs ridin' the pine for just such an occasion. Jeff Bianchi and Alex Gonzalez vs. Rickie? That's like comparing a turd, to a turd on fire. Hey Bianchi got a hit the other day, and rather than reward him with some added ABs he rides the pine thus far.
-
:laughing :laughing :laughing :laughing You know in this day and age knowing how putrid Weeks does in High Leverage situations, wouldn't a sane decision be to pinch hit for him there? Bianchi then Maldanaldo, then if a scoring opportunity is there Lucroy?....I mean having under a .100 Avg in those moments seems very simple choice to make.
-
I do. This has to clear the path for KRod to join the team and Axford sent down. They have what? til the end of the week to make that decision? I said it, the only reason I would agree with KRod's signing is if when he is called up Axford is sent down. Let's hope it rings true. Such a Waste. See why I also put the idea of Axford closing in Roenicke's head being that Henderson gets through the 8th and then it's left to Axford in the 9th. Now RRR has to make a decision on what Pitchers to use out of the pen/pinch hitter. Life is thus more difficult for him now.

The call up Scooter Gennett thread
brewcrewdue80 replied to Bombers's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Alright a thread with a move I've been advocating. Few thoughts: One, Gennett not being a big difference maker. Well, then what is the entire point of keeping his service clock in tact? If what we have is a Bench/Platoon player then what the hell are we doing considering his service clock time? Two, Gennett is Lefty. Rickie is Righty. How much more do you need to see Rickie struggle vs Righties before just giving the Lefty Gennett his slap hitting chance? Three, Lefties pull the ball tendency would work wonders on hit and runs batting behind..Gomez. Done. Four, Rickie's struggles are flat out producing with the bat. 8 total Xtra Base hits so slap hitting Scooter? What is Rickie doing? 2HRs 9RBI. Taken from BREF: RBI Opportunities PA: 140 RBI: 9 Actual Runners on Base: 96 ML Avg. Player with PA: 140 RBI: 14 Avg. Runners on Base: 83 5RBI behind the ML Avg. Mind you this is with 13 more runners vs that avg or 16% more Runners LOB which under this stat means avg should be 16RBI. Five, For those that argue about Lucroy's struggles his stat line comparison to Rickie's above: Jonathan Lucroy -- PA: 111 RBI:16 Actual Runners on Base: 78 ML Avg. Player with PA:111 RBI:11 Avg. Runners on Base: 66 This is why I am tired of Rickie. He's sitting at -NEGATIVE -.9WAR right now That's lower than BJ Upton who's easily having a worse season(I Called it) And you know what? ATL has sat him down recently to address his struggles. Rickie not hitting HRs or driving in guys with his supposed Plus Bat Speed and Bat ability for a 2nd baseman at a rate even resembling just ML AVG has to be addressed! You look at the Gamelogs and 7 of Rickie's 9RBI came in the games the Brewers scored their Most thus far this season. 12 and in 1of the 2 where they scored 10. That scares me in that theres a strong chance his RBI days are really a part of terrible pitching performance and not his upside ability. Everyone on the team hit these guys Even the SPs had a hit in those two games. If you want me to jump on Rickie's bandwagon and say he can turn this around, then I would immediately look at his performance against good Pitchers. Good hitters hit good pitching. And if anyone can say Rickie doesn't look completely lost/outclassed vs. good pitching go ahead and speak up! On base is all well and good so long as he is mixing it in with some timely hitting....those 7RBIs he's behind from being ML avg would be a start.... This is why I'm advocating Gennett platoon for the time-being. All these Floor numbers .260 no HRs, lack of Walks/OB...the way I look at it is: If both Rickie and Lucroy are above the ML avg for Runners on base, what would be better? a .260 floor hitter? or a .175 with .300OB? We're still not getting HRs from Rickie. And again a Lefty slap hitting balls potential through hit and run holes leads me to thinking he can hit .280 as a floor with an added RBI or two over what Rickie can do reaching ML avg. Oh, and if it doesn't work? So be it. But this team is 4games under .500 with a near -1WAR 2b and as I recall, the team got a nice jump boost when Rickie gave way his Leadoff last season to an unproven Aoki. Just a few Timely hits by Gennett could really jump this team I believe and maybe the time off for Rickie jump starts his bat with the competition for playing time. One, he needs to win if he wants to see 11.5mil in 2015. -
Your right, I meant League average not minimum in Lucroy's pay. I seen the RISP with 2 outs for Lucroy but again, Low BABIP will correct some of that. He's over .300 overall with RISP. Weeks has no line whatsoever that indicates being unlucky in a certain situation. They all suck. It just sucks more the higher leverage the situation. Weeks BABIP while should improve, it's not far from average and this is with a decent FlyBall avg thus far. Something Lucroy has 0 hits on if they don't end as HRs. So that is lucky on Weeks part adding to the less likely of him drastically turning it around. Looking deeper in to Weeks career and how bleak it is to suggest he will turn it around: He's had 1 Calendar month batting above .300 since August of 2007. Which was June 2010 at .311. This isn't some white hot streaky hitter we're looking at. Meanwhile Lucroy batted a robust .388 in May last season and had a 2+month stretch batting .300+ August/Sept. He's still putting the ball in play. It's clear he's way more capable of turning things around than Weeks. The same could be said about Aoki who after being mentioned is struggling alongside of Weeks and sitting a game has responded going 10-23. Lucroy will correct back to a norm. If he doesn't so be it. Weeks suffered a season worth of struggles last year and is off to a worse start. Lucroy's struggles are new and way off from what he accomplished last season. So it's easy to remain on board with Lucroy especially when the typical struggles for batters are a result of striking out more often, something Lucroy isn't experiencing.
