Brewers Have Considered Trading Hart

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/the-qualifying-offer-and-you/ Quick link to the QO. It is based on the avg for top 125players. I said it's crap and shouldn't include the top 20 paid in the equation rather numbers 126-145. With last year's salaries an offer would make that player at the 49th highest paid player. So figure on if you are extending an QO that player should be around top 75players in all of baseball. My suggested way the QO would have decreased to 10.988mil on the offer. Still a high price but one I think deserving of a team to extend to a player they'd like to keep. Obviously in some ways there's players out there who are headed for a top 30payday and that offer seems quite low but I am looking at keeping players at a market expense. 10.988mil would rank 74th in pay last season. So, 11mil. The point is that if QO is 13.3mil it is setting the market for what a FA should be signing for thus all these 13mil+ 3year signings. Like I said for small market teams and this is only going to rise, extending an offer of 14mil to receive a pick is dicey as the player just may take it to play another year with you, Then next season your offer will be even higher! I think its to blame why players like Shoo,Shields,Hanrahan and such are being traded. Teams like Clev,TB,Pit cant afford to plan ahead on their payroll with the possibility of a 1year contract at 13+mil potentially being added to their books. It's partly why I wonder on trading away Hart and Gomez, eventually Ramirez and Weeks. It's not the 1st year of extending the QO that may hurt the team it's the second year upon that player's acceptance for guys like Hart and Ramirez who are at decline years and that offer is continually increasing. Currently the offer stands at 11.56mil from my calculations but 125 is Gallardo's 7.75mil and this is before this site added the FA signing of Hamilton/Grienke and all the top tier FA. 49th as it stands on this site is 14mil and you can figure it will fall around where 40 is which is 15mil. Taking from what last year's QO falling on 49th highest paid you are looking around 15mil for 2013/2014 QO FA. Do you want the Brewers to offer 15mil to Hart and or Gomez to end the next season? Think about how that affects 2014 payroll should Brewers do extend QO and both accept. My point in this is this. Teams that can afford 150+mil payrolls will never have a problem extending QOs and getting draft picks. Yes they're likely to sign FA QO players and lose their top pick but lets face it, if a team has 150+mil payroll they are likely drafting near bottom of 1st rd. They lose a 22-30pick and gain a 36-50 pick/picks for those that leave. In that regards I feel in the next ten years you will see big market teams not only have elite players signed but also have a solid farm system. while small market teams are constantly playing the "window of opportunity" game where they have prospects that produce for them from drafting well. You figure it's a 5-6year span of good drafting that nets a 2year window before the 1st wave of those good draft picks leave. Milwaukee it was Prince, now it will be Hart then Weeks. Along the way they lost Odorizzi,Lawrie,Cain,Escobar,Brantley to acquire the experienced necessary pieces to make that window work for them. Should the Brewers Farm system of arms fail you are looking at a troubling next 4years unless of course the team finds trade suitors of the players soon to hit FA with enough talent to keep the team afloat. -

I kind of looked over there ML team and Tillman did stand out. But, it wouldn't make sense to deal one of your Pitching Staff who was key to your playoff run to add a 1year player. I would think Baltimore has Tillman in mind as one of their key players building around. Hart doesn't strike me as a player you build around approaching his declining years. Other pitchers Baltimore has: Hunter,Hammel,Arrieta,Johnson,Gonzalez,Chen,Britton, and Matusz Johnson and Gonzalez don't have much experience like who is on Brewers now. Chen after last season would be nice to have but is he a player who'd be on trading block? Leaves all of Hunter,Arrieta,Britton,Matusz all of whom have experience pitching 5+eras and players I wouldn't want to acquire long term Then there's Hammel and after the season he pitched for Baltimore like Chen and Tillman just don't see him on the trading block. Though he has 2years left before FA and 1yr of Hart for 2yrs of Hammel may be the kind of deal that makes sense for both teams. Bal can throw in another of their 3-10 prospects above. -

In Texas, it would seem like a decent fit now that Swisher is gone. Do the Brewers obtain Olt? Here's a scenario, send both Gomez and Hart for Olt,Perez and something like Martin or Gentry to cover CF with Schafer? and added prospects? This is in regards to not signing Bourn for Texas taking a cheaper Gomez maybe throw him an extension worth 10-12mm for 3-5years? figuring saving value? Baltimore, who do you get from them? TOP TEN PROSPECTS vis Baseball America 1.Dylan Bundy, rhp 2.Kevin Gausman, rhp 3.Jonathan Schoop, 2b/ss 4.Nicky Delmonico, 1b/2b 5.Eduardo Rodriguez, lhp 6.L.J. Hoes, of 7.Xavier Avery, of 8.Mike Wright, rhp 9.Branden Kline, rhp 10.Adrian Marin, ss Nothing really jumps out at you. And none of them really seem ready to join a MLB team. Bundy of course shouldn't be listed as he's a for sure untradeable. Looking at their Minors stats only Rodriquez hints at maybe turning in to a legit player. The rest appear more of AAAA types. Again assuming Gausman is not on the market either. I haven't looked below top 10 but you figure you will have to ask for at least one of these players. With all that in place I don't see a deal Baltimore would put together worthy of Hart. Gausman is their projected '17 #2 starter Likely not tradeable for Orioles Hoes as their '17 LF who is best hitter for avg/arm rated Schoop would be a power hitting 2b Delmonico at 1b? Edit adding: Looking over top 20prospects please give me some Rangers prospects! Wow does that Farm system sound stacked! -

My question is who is out there left that would want Hart for a season? -
So, Hanrahan to Red Sox. That leaves Dodgers holding on to Cappy. Don't know who the Dodgers would take off Brewers for him but since the topic was written this makes him still available.

Jeff Karstens as a SP pickup? non-tendered by Pirates due to make almost 4mil. He's kept his era under 4 and does pitch half his games in to the 7th inning historically. He minimizes pitch counts as well to get there. For the expected price sans injury risk 4mil a year seems like a no brainer signing by any team for him. Pirates let him go because of his price and wanting to bring up the young arms. I just feel like he's a pitcher whom can instill some veteran knowledge about how he goes about pitching a game with "stuff" that grades probably around what the Brewers young arms have. The key being is in that he can get to the 7th inning around 80pitches. Having someone like that to watch and learn from has to be more valuable than listening to a pitching coach try explaining/pounding it over conversation/video. Seeing is believing to me and he could show the arms how it's done. Add that should Karstens remain healthy pitching below 4era over 30starts at 4mil a year? How brilliant of a signing does that look end of 2013 season? I was one who wanted a pursue of Brandon McCarthy who got 8mil/yr. Karstens wouldn't be much less of a pitcher for half the price. So what am I missing? in that Karstens hasn't been pursued much by way of rumors? And I mention Karstens since of the FA Arms out there this one seems like one of the best options when it comes to a small market keeping payroll reduced team like the Brewers. Oh not mention this is a mid level guy who is being mentioned as a potential suitor for the Angels with their loss of pitchers. If he's good enough to be linked to the Angels, why not add him to the Brewers?

I predicted the moment the Cards offered him the QO he would end up back with the Cards. I believe take Molina out of the Catchers box and Lohse is a 4.5ERA pitcher waiting to happen. I'd rather keep my pick draft a pitcher, and insert him in the Opening day 5th Starter than Lohse and expect near same results only more fun to watch that young kid develop rather than a sad decline with Lohse tied to 13mil on a team's payroll. I don't know why Lohse has succeeded the last two seasons, if Molina just calls an absolute helluva game at catcher, or if Molina being who he is gets a slightly wider strike zone. But, I seriously believe any team without an amazing arm/pitch calling will watch Lohse implode that season. Take away any year with Stl and he's never pitched below 4era. 3years with Stl under 4era across 96starts but 40 starts over 2seasons of Closer to 6ERA! I wouldn't think losing my #1 draft pick is worth Lohse alone. Not even for 1mil a season. But around the 13+ hes likely seeking for age 34 and beyond seasons? I hope he goes back to Stl on a 8mil contract and he loses money for not taking their QO just to shove it in Lohse and Boras's Face!

I've been on the fence on this. I would trade Hart, but, I'm in the thought that the teams that would use Hart have been getting less and less. Mariners signing Ibanez, Indians with Swisher, then you have the Angels and DBacks with better OFs looking to be traded in terms of either talent and or/ current contract. The reasoning behind trading Hart is you have a Platoon type 1b with Gamel/Green depending who's hitting to replace Hart with. That's the only move I see where it's not tearing the team down to being rebuilt. Gomez, I don't know if trading him now or at deadline matters. I feel should he be anything like 2012 by the deadline, a team would overpay on a playoff run/ key cf injured, that would also likely be in position to just extend his contract. So the draft pick compensation doesn't bother them, the Brewers though should get a better return though since they are losing the pick compensation Ramirez. I think he falls under the same above with Gomez. Trade Deadline for a playoff run team who has an injured 3b/or huge need for a 3b bat. Weeks, I just don't see being traded. You have him for 3more years(most likely) I don't think Gennet will be a decent replacement over Weeks bat. I could see Gennett being traded away this year as a key cog in a deal for a team with 2b needs for say a 2b in the minors who is 3years away from being ML ready with a higher upside than Scooter. As much as I kinda hate Weeks role in the lineup, only one who thinks 8th suits him well ahead of the pitcher, he does provide a solid bat at reasonable enough price. The issue at hand with every trade away of any of these players is your taking apart a #1 NL offense in 2012. An offense that I believe should be a lil bit better with Segura,Weeks back around .265BA, Lucroy not missing time, Hart at 1b, Aoki at RF. That's 5batters that should equal or increase their production from their position. Leaves Braun,Gomez,Ramirez as the only 3 who could decline. Wouldn't you want to see a full year's of this lineup and what they can do? Side note then there's the QO draft pick compensation. I can see Brewers doing it to both Gomez and Hart. Keeping payroll down this year to compensate for that next year should both take it on. Then you have a Season's worth of evaluation on the SP staff and maybe they are set, maybe there's only a player to be added. Add that player for 2014 and you are in a full playoff run with all these pieces together. Otherwise those two walk, you get 2 added picks for 2014 you can sell Ramirez/Weeks and go forward from there.

Cody Ross to AZ (3yrs/$26M)
brewcrewdue80 replied to jerichoholicninja's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I don't get this signing either. The only thing that I can think of is theres a heck of an offer for Kubel on the table and they wanted to secure his replacement before doing so? Otherwise you're looking at downgrade imo compared to Kubel. There would need to be an upgrade coming elsewhere on the team. And then again there's still Upton, but who plays CF when he leaves? Parra? Either way Ross is a downgrade of whomever leaves. There would need to be a heck of an upgrade to justify trading either. I don't like them commiting 3yrs and 26mil? I will say that if Kubel gets traded to me would give a fresh idea on what Hart's value is in trade as Hart is about the same to slightly better than Kubel. Rumor has Rays interested in Kubel. At which pitcher? I wouldn't like the deal for the Rays to lose another pitcher after Shields and Davis and picking up Kubel's contract to lose likely a pitcher who they'd have had control on cheap side doesn't follow to me. -
Jose Veras signs with Astros
brewcrewdue80 replied to PrinceEatMeat's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Let's see Veras as their closer at 2mil? Is that really a bad idea? For a team probably not going to win north of 60games this year? How many times is it they will call on Veras to close? Doubt it's any higher than 30 times for full season and that could be reaching. As bad as his Whip was he maintained a 3.63 era. Should he fall back to his avg whip the prior 3 years, I would expect another year of 3.8era or less which I'm sure the Astros will take for a season or two. As someone put above, there's always teams on the lookout for closers, something Veras never been given the role as. He could easily have a 12/13 saves in by deadline and at under 2mil would be a simple target for a team on the lookout for a closer could go for. A borderline ML IF/OF prospect/utility player in return could then be had likely for a team obviously in need of players. Really, I was excited when Brewers got Veras and for whatever reason that awful bullpen mojo spread throughout the Brewers hit him as well. For his awful year he did lower his HR/9 and increase his K/9. He brings his Hits/9 and BB/9 back down to normal he should be a guaranteed succesful signing for Hou. -
Over 30 Starts who do you think pitches better this year for Cubs Villanueva or Jackson? I feel Carlos could finish the season with at least a lower ERA. Likely not as many innings. but maybe as many Ks. at half the price or less over Jackson. I think any team willing to give Carlos his starting chance will get a good return on the money they give him so the signing would be a good one for the Cubs.

Brewers Have Considered Trading Hart
brewcrewdue80 replied to torts's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Late sept pregame scouting on him on Rangers blog. Remember he's 21 pitching in the ML SCOUTING THE STARTERS Rangers starter LHP Martin Perez (1-1, 3.38 ERA) will be making his first start since holding Boston to a run on July 24. After three appearances to get his feet wet in the first half, Perez has pitched extremely well in a limited role for the Rangers. Since the All-Star break, he has allowed just three runs in 17 1/3 innings (1.56 ERA). The last time out, he pitched 4 1/3 no-hit innings in relief against Seattle in relief of Scott Feldman. Matchup of note: Counting a one-inning mid-July relief appearance, Perez has not allowed a hit in 5 1/3 innings to Seattle, a total of 15 at-bats. He’s allowed two walks and has hit a batter. There's your idea on his flashes of brilliance that can be had. And I always believe in many prospects in improving in the 21-27age he's at. If I were the Rangers owning Perez I'd think Hart for Perez straightup wasn't enough from the Brewers! 6years of a high end prospect vs. 1FA year of an aging Hart? But on a winning now team it makes sense to take Hart on. I could envision Perez being more Valuable than Hart though by 2014 already if he can pitch sub 3.8era and 170+inn on 30starts. which is why trading Hart vs. extending him seems like a legit idea. -
Brewers Have Considered Trading Hart
brewcrewdue80 replied to torts's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Minor League Baseball ranks him 3rd best Lefty Starter Prospect behind Hultzen and Skaggs. Scouting is he has 3 Plus pitches rated for Major League Level. Cant let a spotty showing on Rangers when hes taken from Starter role in AAA to a Spot Start/bullpen/oh here's another couple spot starts results as how well you project he's capable of pitching. The idea of trading for him is he wont be FA eligible until 2019 and isn't arb eligible until 2016! Think about that for a second. 6years of a potentially solid starter. And in those combined 6years he wont earn as much as Hart will earn in 2013 alone. If Perez lives up to his hype you are probably looking at near 1000innings pitched sub 4era for 6years service under 11mil locked down on the team's starting rotation ages 22-27. This is the type of deal that can make or break a small market club. If you see a guy with control issues that may never live up to his true potential then if Rangers feel the same way they don't fret dealing him away. But if Perez does get better control and becomes a #2-3 pitcher for at least 4 years giving 2years to develop That is a huge gain by the Brewers at a value cost. The biggest hype I read was a potential Johan Santana comparison but he has to control those 3pitches he has. If he were to live to the Santana hype those final 3-4years before hitting FA plain and simple this would be a move that when Brewers make playoffs in those years will be looked at as a big key to their success by taking on the belief in Perez's peripherals and not getting stuck on his control issues. Add on is if he will be 27 heading to 28 FA year, I would expect should Perez show an ability to perform by 2016/17 a long term extension say to 2021/22 meaning owning him through all of his prime pitching years. 1year of Hart or up to say 10years of owning a lefty starter who's ceiling is a #1/strong2 and floor as a solid 4. When I look at it with the fan forum's projections of Brewers not winning more than 85 games/ likely missing playoffs then, whats the point in 1 more solid year with Hart when it's going to be wasted when you can gain many solid years of a starter to match up well with all of years of remaining owning Braun? Lock up a piece like Braun that can net the team wins long term is where I'm at. -
Brewers Have Considered Trading Hart
brewcrewdue80 replied to torts's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
My trade value of Hart to Texas for Brewers would be Perez plus a mid level prospect/probably a bullpen type that Brewers could look at using. Lefty Starter the Brewers could use on their payroll. He may not be any better than Narveson in performance this year but upside beyond seems much higher and Brewers could easily run Perez out there for 20+starts this year whereas Texas may only get him 7-12. That to me makes having Hart a better proposition for Texas for this year than developing Perez -
Kendrys Morales
brewcrewdue80 replied to princeginterhallhelms04's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Dont really understand this idea of trading Hart for Morales. Obviously mute at this point but youre looking at the same kind of player levels in Hart/Morales. Hart a lil better but his salary being higher takes away a lil bit of his value. This deal is good on both ends. Seattle found the OF they needed instead of Swisher or Hamilton. and on avg I'd expect Morales to perform to expectations. Swisher/Hamilton can really underperform at way more price. In Vargas Angels get a guy that seems to just always keep you in the game covering 6ip. With That offense in LAA That should be plenty to win him 14games again or more. -
Well, I don't know exactly why, I can presume that statistically speaking maybe the history is profound to break down around year 6 after a TJ. But if it doesn't break down beyond 7,8 years then it's okay? Speaking of 1year deals, 1year deals make sense on just about every free agent. But that's not what the asking is likely for. In regards to Marcum after last season's injuries, 1year could be disastrous to his value with a return of said TJ, or injuries, or lack of performance. He has to be looking at his value being higher to ask for 2 or more years of guaranteed money over the risk of 1year. Brewers front office just not looking to commit. I can imagine his asking price being 8mil-10mil/yr currently. That too has to be weighing in making him an offer or not. On Marcum's side I've got to believe he can just wait it out for the 2 or more years deal all the way up to beginning of Spring Training. He will easily be signed by somebody for 1year by then at his asking price. It's just better on him to seek longer and maybe someone does it.
-
The hard part is that we already have 10-11 relievers on the 40 man roster (and only one spot open at this time). I just wonder about some of our existing players. Like Josh Stinson. The guy walked 71 and struck out 91 in 145 innings at AA. He had a 1.638 WHIP. Those numbers are kind of crappy. Perhaps the team thinks a lot of the guy, but you have to wonder if a guy like Storey doens't have more upside than Stinson. Well, if Stinson reached 145innings he obviously started quite a few games versus bullpen. Many times high whip guys as starters improve out of the bullpen because typically their K/9 rates rise because theyre throwing harder throughout 1inning versus conserving for a 5+in outing. So gotta guess Stinson showed Brewers something coming out of the Bullpen vs as a Starter. Think Wade Davis of Tampa as recent example. He doubled his K rate % from about 15-30+% That may be what Brewers are looking at in keeping Stinson on roster for Bullpen use.

Disciples of Uecker had a blog post after Marcum's comments. In it, it talks about the Brewers having the best Health/medical history in MLB dealing with Pitchers. Something they came out with was that TJ surgery recipients tend to blow out their arm again at year 6. With Capuano/Wolf as being examples. It appears Marcum had TJ in 2008? which indicates to our staff that He's due for a blow out. Add the elbow issues of 2012 and aside from a 1year deal, he's beyond risky. Case closed on Marcum!

Now that its official: Toronto wins in this deal for next 2years. It's like the KC-TB deal The ACE Pitcher has Immediate Impact. Dickey isn't a fluke, he's done it 3years running and has improved every year. Let's toss this in, you know the story, he wasn't a Knuckleballer in the Bigs to start and was mashed out of the Bigs as a plain pitcher. He had only dabbled with Knuckleballs but then it caught on and he's risen every year since. Toronto also gets Thole who at least had caught some of these Knucklers. An added aspect to what makes me think Dickey will continue to pitch well is he's been at it for 3years and I'm sure its slowly come together for him what gets him outs. He probably threw too many of the PRE Knuckleballer pitches to mix it up and was getting hit. Now he's established his own pitch to pitch system(Thole) on how to manage his games to efficiency. He can make the Knuckle ball move how he wants,,,,Sink/rise. That's why he Ks so many. He'll be around for awhile and while not a sub-2.5 era in AL East, I see 3.3-3.6 to be expected. Oh, and Toronto has to be East Favorites. How's that rotation? Dickey,Johnson,Buerle,Morrow, and Romero? if of 2011 vs 2012? All of them could be sub 3.6era at season's end. Now, Mets: They make a Monster win on this trade on their end. They weren't going to extend Dickey for his price. They got a Prime Catcher in the making for years to come. It's what they wanted. Add the prospect of another Great Arm potential is icing on the cake. Let's face it, Mets weren't going to compete for this division in next 2years barring the whole everything comes together type season. You go to year 3 and Dickey is 40 at 12-13mil a year and has no where near the value he has now. This trade sures up at a high level, a position that often isn't counted on for offense. I really love a Great Catcher on the cheap. Theyre hard to come by, just look at Buck making 6mil./yr. TDA is making pennies to that contract and will outperform him by a mile. Anyway rambling. Good deal on both sides but Mets really made the best of their situation work for them. Something the Brewers may want to replicate.

Marlins fans complaining, we gave up Reyes,Buck,Buerle, and Johnson and we didn't get D'Arnaud?! While one RA Dickey for 1year gets him? LMAO Exactly explains why there shouldn't be a Marlins Franchise anymore

So, what are the Brewers doing....besides nothing...
brewcrewdue80 replied to The stache's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Okay, the whole 85win prediction? Team won 83games last season. Worst bullpen. Worst Weeks/Morgan combo first half of season. No Grienke in final half which is how it stands now. To say this team is only at 80wins and then say basically everyone has to play at 100% their capability to win 85-90? I think if everyone plays to 100%capability Brewers win 115games. No team gets 100% capability from all 25 on their roster throughout a season though. I just don't see why this team is listed at 80wins when the Entire #1 in NL Offense is back? And in what should be a set lineup from day 1. Your ACE is there. And all the other young pitchers who helped spark a season ending run are there that took a team from 12under .500 to 4 above? in final 66games. Any projection right now with a pitching staff the Brewers have should be in a +/- of 18games! so if the Cairo projects to 78 that means 62-96wins. There is no way to determine Peralta's pitching forthcoming. Fiers? Is he that under 2era stretch pitching or that 5+era stretch? How many Wins +/- is that on a under 3era vs a 5+era? Then you put the 5th which is who at this point? The fact its a question mark has folks wanting a FA pitcher like Dempster/Jackson. Adding a pitcher like that probably changes that +/- from 18-13. Just remember 11wins blown after the 8th inning this season. Convert them all and you have 94wins. -
Brewers Have Considered Trading Hart
brewcrewdue80 replied to torts's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I think he was saying that to state that Hart's trade value would be improved because the team who trades for Hart could also get the comp pick if the trade is done this offseason. I do agree that the Choo deal helps the Brewers if they are looking to trade Hart. I'd be really happy with a Top 10 prospect in return for Hart, so I would hope that Melvin uses the Choo deal as leverage and lands someone who can be a core player for Milwaukee for a long time. Comparing Bauer for Choo when Arizona wanted Bauer Out is a huge difference to Milwaukee and Hart. Milwaukee has discussed keeping Hart. Bauer was a bad apple in ARZ and they took a deal to get rid of him. Hart will not bring back the same return you are hoping for. And the QO system blows. It makes it even worse for small market clubs to make QOs as the risk of taking a 1yr deal of the player when they dont really want to pay that player the "Required amount" gives that club all the more reason not to make that QO. It explains why Marcum wasn't QO. The idea was to help small market clubs with compensation for losing players to FA to Big Markets. But its the Big Markets who can afford to QO any FA while a small market has to choose whether or not to risk the offer and thus when they don't lose a pick. Down the road the Big Markets are not only going to be signing FAs but building their farm system with the added draft pick compensation small markets are no longer getting. The idea of it being based on avg pay of top 125players is absurd and the top 20 should at least be removed from that equation as then the value on the QOs would be somewhat more reasonable when you take top 20 vs #s126-145 Edit: adding That also the QO was at 13mil this year. Which seems to have added what the going rate is now on FA market all over the place. Signing a player for one year and the QO would become 13mil+ the next makes it all the easier to just ask for 13mil now and next year/3rd since both will be less than a QO come 2014/2015 -
Mike Adams to Phillies, 2 yrs/$12 million
brewcrewdue80 replied to JohnBriggs12's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
What a bunch of good moves. Rather than sign Upton/Bourne they acquire Revere. Toss away Worley and enable themselves to acquire Lannan and Adams in the process. And all this for less than signing Bourne or Upton combined they have 3-1 and I would have to assume the rumor of adding Ross would make addressing 4spots at cost of 1. Well, addressing 3 since Worley/Lannan are equal. -
So, what are the Brewers doing....besides nothing...
brewcrewdue80 replied to The stache's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
He threw his hat in the Dempster pool. Was outbid. I read they had also bid on Burnett and was outbid. I think the long term solution is sitting on the pitchers coming up from the minors. There's a lot of faith and value saved with holding on to them vs. shipping them away. Should they proceed to be okay to decent the money is likely around to keep the other players they want. Maybe extending Gallardo. Maybe they are holding back because they are working on a deal with Hart or Gomez. All three will be making 10+mil/yr on any extension added to Braun/Aramis/Weeks. With any of that being the case the club has to be cheaper elsewhere or let Hart/Gomez go. Now, if you haven't noticed all these trades lately there are a lot of surplus of arms on some teams. Something that these teams will likely part away with near/at the end of ST. Which could be better options than what is out there for the price. Now, if Brewers sign Jackson to another 1yr deal he's accustomed to, are you still behind the Brewers having done nothing. Dickey sounds ripe to being traded away, Hamilton signing leaves Angels with an OFer to trade away. After those moves their may be something to gain. I've been feeling a Seattle trade with the Angels for their OF for one of those pitchers, since Seattle has been linked to pursuing Hamilton/Swisher. Who knows what's going to happen but every move is changing the landscape for what can be done. -
Ben Revere to Phillies for Vance Worley and prospect

It's another Phillies Big Spender vs Small Market Twins deal. Both Span/Revere are gone. but they both didn't offer much beyond speed. Getting Pitching in return under control and likely to be used now/within end of next season is a great deal for Min. Let's face it. Bourne-Span-Revere. Do you see much difference in the three? The biggest is price. So it's a good deal for Philly too. Now would I let go Gomez for Worley/May? Considering how our pitching stands and having Aoki/Schafer. Yes I'd do it in a heartbeat. For 1yr of Gomez though Philly wouldn't throw in May, and May just may have been the only piece to take Gomez away no Worley. It's a scary thought of Gomez going on FA next year and like above said having 13-15mil thrown at him. I really hope the Brewers can trade him by the deadline. I fear a QO may get accepted by Gomez and the money spent then on him would be devastating to the payroll. These trades by Minnesota obviously make a Gomez deal less likely before ST so I don't see my hopes being fulfilled. I don't know what it is but Gomez just rubs me the wrong way.
