  1. Who? Well hes a 3b/1b util for the Dodgers. Age 28. Bats LH. Gotta hang with me for a moment. Statcast had him with the 38th hardest exit velo in 2019 for all of MLB. He's pre-arb and in Dodgers pecking order he's second fiddle with younger upside knocking at the ML doorsteps. He looks the type stat-wise as a late bloomer/gamer. Gets better as more experience gained. Under 20% Ks. Give him a Starting chance and see if he sticks with another 5years team control. Seems adequate as a defender for both 3b/1b. That high exit velo could result in a big breakout. Call this a Jesus Aguilar/Travis Shaw attempt at finding. Wouldn't expect Beaty to require a big prospect. Give LA a lotto type, maybe a catcher? Considering the lack of much corner inf trade or FA options, this is a lightning in a bottle attempt.
  2. Here's a wonder. I feel like in past 3 games Kirksey has been beaten on passes targeted to who he seems to be covering at least 2 if not 3 times during those games. Now defensively we're putting more pressure on the QB it feels in those 3 games. So, has anyone noticed Preston Smith covering receivers in the last 3 games? Or has his presence been felt more around the line of scrimmage? And this helping the QB pressuring? So a switch in scheme away from Smith to Kirksey is the thought on who's exposed.
  3. I'm unsure on Franco taking only a 1 year deal and on teams only offering 1 year. He had a good 60games in 2020 and is 28. That's an age you want for 2-3years. Though statcast he's not improved year 2 year. Looks on the decline. About 1 step faster per sec than Smoak. Seems teams played him in a shift more than he ever faced and he beat it more than when teams didn't have the shift. So kinda luck influenced improved stats. By the statcast, he doesn't fit the profile Stearns brought in last year. I was hopeful via statcast on Smoak and Garcia, even Gyorko. I wouldn't be as hopeful on Franco. Franco doesn't strike out as much but he's a low loft DP waiting to happen.
  4. I'd think Franco is one of those 4.5mil and 7.5mil option types with 500k buyout. So expect a 2/17 deal.
  5. This is the #1 take for the defense and against Pettine. Smart/good QBs can beat his pass defenses for large chunks simply because playing too soft. Good running teams Just beat the 3-4 model he uses because MiLBs aren't superior and the soft def zone schemes he uses with them. It's not a downhill attack the gaps its almost like man to man and watch for a receiving target cutting through the middle field. So they delay the downhill attack long enough to see if it's a run or pass. Also-LT or RT run blocking vs OLBs is a greater initial push than vs DEs. Now that does get negated by a number of holding penalties when LB look to shed that OL when chasing outside runs. Now revert back to problem one- soft belly def gets eaten up for large chunks of yards making that 10yard penalty almost feel like an Offensive Play caller's advantage. Predictable what you're going to see. 8-15yards downfield open underneath. Late releasing RB or TE open 2-5yards for a headstart yac potential. Missed tackles equal big play 1st downs. It's like Pettine's soft defense has a sweet spot. 1-2secs after snap but 2+secs it falls apart until 5+secs.
  6. I wonder how Native Americans feel about this. I say this with perspective that my daughter chose Denver Broncos as her favorite NFL team simply because horses. I realized her uncle on mother's side did that as well seeing he had no other ties to Colorado or Denver. (Originally from New Mexico) I would think numerous Native Americans then chose their favorite team because the name Indians or Chiefs. We take their land and now we're taking their sports team to root for. Because pc groups are offended by the belief that should be offensive to that culture.
  7. Going to pop out some names as I look in to them from Statcast of non tendered players. 1b a 29old Rangel Ravelo StL. He has under 200BA for ML career so you ask why this guy? Well, it's a total of 84PAs. The thing is in 2019 his exit velo for 39 balls in play was 93.8. 2HRs that statcast put would be 3 at Miller Park. His minors career is 499SO in 3515 PAs or 19.9% basically. triple splits: .299/.370/.440-810OPS. It's not clamoring to be Milw's 1b it's a sign with invite to Spring Training and see. He's obviously just be a pre-arb player and at least that potential BA/OB would be helpful. Wow, I mean I looked over position players and that was it. Ravelo is literally the only interesting guy that I think with more games played may approach similar stats of his Minor League numbers. Doesn't offer much in terms of power bat maybe 15HRs. This is sorta a Jesus Aguilar mold? How do you have a decent offseason, when virtually nobody you sign will be good? Probably explains why the team has 5 catchers on the 40man.
  8. Is this week when Tavon Austin debuts? Also the DL they added? Both were inactive I believe last week to give them acclimation chances. Can't forget Kingsley Keke creating some impact. Defensively, the players are improving(Gary included) Barnes returned. I'm taking more optimistic approach with defense heading towards playoffs. This will be a good game showing if that optimism is worthy. Det has been a tough win, Stafford is a better test on secondary. See how they hold up. Offensively, you can't ask for much more. MVS to catch those balls. Seriously it feels every drop of his is 3pts lost on the drive and maybe you could say 1pt lost based on field position cost. A 4point drop. Rodgers is still giving him opportunities- like Adams early in to his career- maybe on timeline it'll happen as playoffs begin he catching those balls. Pettine had what seemed like as many interior blitzes as he had combined for the entire season last week. I hope he can call them again this week. I expect GB to put up 40 and win 45-18 this week. I think Jones in a dome will have close to 160 total yards combined rushing/rec. 2TDs.
  9. Just going to put this here. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mlb.com/amp/news/josh-hader-loses-arbitration-case-with-brewers.html Probably use this as a time-line when any Hader dealings will start to take place. In google search I seen Jan 10th Hader and Suter hadn't come to terms on a deal. And here it is when Hader's arb hearing completed. So a month or 2 away. One would think this would then lead to the Brewers finally making any sort of FA deals that they aren't immediately comfortable doing now.
  10. This is a future bullpen guy at best. I really dislike the Cal Ripken-esque approach to pitching motions. After enough of them I almost wonder if these motions are actually telling the batter what pitch is thrown. Clearly the quick to the plate is a fastball. I forget the motion, but I think that was telling of changeup to screwball? I do like the movement and spin on that pitch. I'd have to watch a lot more and see if he was telegraphing but his 6step shuffle is hard to watch. Sorta like Sergio Garcia's re-grips back in the day. If they found a way to get rid of his gimmicks I could be a fan, but right now I find it annoying. Also lefties teed off on him twice in that short blip. It's a body maybe fills out the minors since we graduated our fair share. From Williams, Rasmussen, Topa, another name I can't think of(guy in simulation alternated with Rasmussen last year) Feyereisen before you say it.
  11. Now that this week is over, hopping over to Standings and there are a whopping 11! Teams at 8-4 or better with 4 games to play. That's unusual right? Always felt like it was 2-3 teams from a conference that had chances at 12wins or better to finish a season. Like 12-4 would be at least a 2seed on most occasions. Is there any historical feat by this year's 11 teams record 4games or more above .500 after week 13?
  12. Hendriks only threw 25 IP in 2018, so it doesn't really effect the rate stats all that much, though Hader closes the gap on the counting stats. Triple H relievers 2018-20... Hader | 176 IP | 62 ERA- | 64 FIP- | 5.8 runs WAR | 5.2 FIP WAR Hand | 151 IP | 65 ERA- | 65 FIP- | 3.2 runs WAR | 3.8 FIP WAR Hendriks | 123 IP | 49 ERA- | 48 FIP- | 5.3 runs WAR | 5.1 FIP WAR The projections take all that (& much more) into account & ZiPS has Hendriks at a 163 ERA+ in 2021 with Hand at 138. The Brewers haven't been released yet, but Hader was projected at a 176 ERA+ for 2020 & posted an actual 122 mark. I'd guess his projection slides some for 2021 & ends up a couple two tree points higher than Hendriks. Which is a lil bit garbage. Hader had 19IP in 2020. Would say 2 poor outings total. Hendriks had 25.1 IP in 2020 and gave up only 1HR. Hendriks had 24IP in 2018 giving up 3HRs and finished above 4ERA. Point here being Hader gave up 2HRs and 4runs in one outing raising his ERA upper 4s and finished this small sample size lowering his ERA after that to 3.79. Knowing his history he likely would have lowered that ERA further by the time he reached 24-25IP. All it takes is 1 normal Hader week and one game Hendriks allows a HR that same week and they look nearly identical. I dont know why I'm arguing cause I realize you still believe Hader will be rated higher than Hendriks. I guess it just gets upsetting to me people think Hader is losing it and expect him to become Turnblow and this he sounds almost like he has 0 trade value.
  13. There's a Brad Hand. Yup. Liam Hendriks too. 2019-20 stats for all three... Hader | 94 IP | 64 ERA- (33rd) | 73 FIP- (27th) | 3.2 runs WAR (4th) | 2.6 FIP WAR (5th) Hand | 79 IP | 62 ERA- (28th) | 53 FIP- (6th) | 2.1 runs WAR (27th) | 2.6 FIP WAR (5th) Hendriks | 108 IP | 38 ERA- (1st) | 38 FIP- (2nd) | 5.4 runs WAR (1st) | 5.2 FIP WAR (1st) What if you took this to a 3 year stat? Hader would win I imagine handedly. Hendriks didnt have a good 2018. I did overlook him on RPs and Hand being non-tendered. So there are options for 2 good late inning RPs. And I see a report the White Sox are in on Hendriks. That will be a reality in other words and removes the White Sox from a Hader need.
  14. Your point is 100% factually correct and noteworthy. But it's impossible not to also look at his stats and observe that this includes a fluky-looking outlier season at age 32 that accounted for 30% of his CAREER bWAR. Why can't it be that 2018 was the fluky season and Lynn is just a good pitcher? I think the Rangers got back a good return and as someone sentiments above, White Sox could be turning over a successful rebuild and ruin it as fast as they can.
  15. This year should have been the sweet spot to Trade Hader but Milw was screwed by the 1 day service time that made him a Super 2 and giving Hader Arbitration last year rather than this being his 1st of 3 only. It was like immediately turning a top 10 prospect like Lux as a headliner to maybe Dustin May prior to last season. (Think May outshines Hader value now) Brewers on a typical Super 2 cutoff should have been at least 1week safe. God Awful Luck. Peavy is probably right that holding on to him is to best gain value on timing to make a trade. Let's say LA loses Jansen early next season to TJ. They offer a higher return at July Deadline than the offer they give now. I do also wonder if the covid season of 2020 gives Hader more value because he remains a cheaper closer than...well that's just it, what closers are on the FA market asking for large summed contracts? Hader would present a cheaper option. Now I don't know of any, so that negates Hader being a cheaper option. Hader's value will be higher if multiple teams require a closer with no fantastic options out there. To me the competition is 3 teams. Dodgers, Yankees, and White Sox. White Sox making the trade for Lynn, do they continue and trade for a close? Dodgers simply because Jansen is a FA I believe after next season. Yankees because they had Rivera, Chapman, may as well get Hader. We're the little guys and a bag of balls should be enough.
  16. There's gotta be more to this deal than 2ML players(1 best RP B2B seasons) and a starter or late innings RP? For a 1B and a 3b prospect? There has to be 2 more prospects from the Mets at minimum. I like the headline and idea but theres Bust,Bust potential on return for Milwaukee. Statcast I will say shows Smith improving and he could be a steal like Yelich pre-breakout. Does have lower exit velocity so not a Yelich clone type of breakout.
  17. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/12/white-sox-to-acquire-lance-lynn.html Dane Dunning headlines return. MLB's #5 White Sox prospect and #98 on top 100 overall. Plus another player, CWS 6th rd pick in 2019 Avery Weems a LHP Surprised this isn't posted already.
  18. Upset alert Washing up 3 and with ball 2mins left. Imagine having Chase Young and Montez Sweat rushing the QB? Big Ben is a tackle dummy back there for them. Edit add- there was a blitz play some Washington LB up the middle and in like the slowest motioned spin I've seen by a QB Big Ben avoided it. Dude just went right on by. This literally was spinning a total of 3inches to the left of where he was in the pocket, and practically non-touched. You gotta see it because it's a razz about for life for any def teammate of that LB missed sack.
  19. So the Brewers can try and trade him. Maybe it's a low lottery prospect in return for Vogelbach plus cash(what it'd cost to waive him by 45days) some AL team with DH to use. A team that's not looking to compete or reducing salary. We can still go out and target a 1b to bring in via trade or FA.
  20. In regards to QBs entering the NFL today and succeeding, think about QB usage in colleges. Spread offenses everywhere, the amount of passing vs a grind it out running game. More reps in a NFL style offense will have you better prepared. I do think the recent talented QBs that are stepping in has changed a perception of QBs overall in the NFL. Let's also give QB success today in WRs, defense restrictions against hitting WRs and the way you tackle. 100 catches in a season not to long ago was unheard of. Was Sharpe the first? or the 2nd?
  21. And seeing as only the 1 seed gets a bye, I suppose HF throughout and bye beats out worrying about weather conditions at home.
  22. Wasn't one of his better games. Maybe they reined him back on presnap calling out his guess what the play was about to happen seeing the two packages on the field. I feel your sentiment for today's game. That or, what GB is running on offense with Rodgers' abilities, guessing is out of his league, while with Philly's QBs he may just be better to guess, this is going to be a sack because Wentz is playing at such a poor level.
  23. Let's just remember the Saints were without Michael Thomas while we were without Adams. I don't know what to think about the matchup. #2 seed currently gotta take it. Again I feel better about a game in NO than I do in GB under this covid season. Poor weather hurts GB more than it will other teams. Strength is passing, defense weakness is stopping the run from big plays. Add the Special Teams, I would want Crosby kicking it through the endzone vs allowing a return from the goal line to the 10yard line. This is actually good football to watch in December and heading in to playoffs. Sea and Rams play each other yet. Rams face Arizona. Minnesota faces Tampa and the Saints who will also face the Chiefs yet. Green Bay should take care of business to the tune of a guaranteed #2 seed with a very good chance of being the 1seed. Though 5,6,7,8 seeds are Tampa, Minnesota, Arizona, and San Fran at the moment. Great road environments but teams that I worry for matchup. I'd rather see Rams or Seattle, or even New Orleans.
  24. Perfect PA end the game. Spend the two previous drives making questionable play calls. Got it right there. Win #9.
