So biggest ticket Venezuelan names right now to watch for this season prior to this new class are in my opinion OF Carlos Rodriquez, SS Eddy Garcia, 3B Jesus Parra, C Jhonny Cabrera, SS Luis Medina, OF Hedbert Perez, C Jeferson Quero. All could appear in A ball at some point this season. If I had to guess: A+ Wisconsin:Rodriquez A Carolina: Perez, Garcia, Quero... maybe Parra R Arizona ( however they are doing it with no R+) Cabrera and Medina

Maybe we should find a new monopoly, it hasn’t produced much MLB talent. Hard to say it hasn't produced MLB talent. before Stearns, Brewers had for most part stopped being really involved in International market. You can't also fault a new regime for mistakes and the inabilities of Melvin and earlier in the international market. Pablo Abreu and Jean Carlos Carmona (both from DR though) were DS first big international signings as GM. Both just turned 21 like in the last month and both made it to A ball by 19. Camona was used as a trade piece. Abreu looked good before injury and then lost covid season. So if the oldest big international prospects they have brought were last able to play ball at 19 maybe 20, tough to judge if they are mlb talent. Lets look at Venezuela in particular under Stearns: 2016 Most big money went to the two DR players above but their were a couple Venezuelan signings (before the more recent purge starting in 2019) OF, Anderson Melendez, Venezuela, $400k Will turn 21 in lat May Has struggled all three years combining for a slash of .215/.263/.283/.546 SS Antonio Pinero (actually a 2015 signing with Boston but contract was voided as punishment) $375,000 Brewers paid. Turning 22 to start season. At 20 He roasted ball in Helena in 37 games and 165 PA's .316/ .341/.449/.791 causing promotion to Wisconsin. Like many 20 year olds, struggled in his first MWL debut in 78 games. Interesting is he made it Helena at 18. Missed all year 19 expect 5 games due to injury. So Brewers were aggressive with him. RHP Brayan Salaya, Venezuela, Not sure bonus, turns 21 next month Hasn't shown much in his 3 seasons. Age 19 season repeating Arizona his ERA is misleading with an FIP of 4.29 (ERA 7.26) He did cut BB's in half as well as bump his K's to 9.68 (nearly doubling what he did his 1st two seasons). An insane .445 BABIP ( 1st two years average 2.77ish) really killed him. Important though, he was improving and trending right direction in development 2017 Carlos Rodriguez, OF, Venezuela, $1,355,000 (turned 20 in December) #13 on MLB Top Prospect List Has good hype and Brewers and scouts like him. Was a top 30 signing and can be found on most Top 25 Prospect lists. Hit .331/.350 .774 BA/OBP/OPS in Helena at 18 with 3 HRs. In 104 games has hit .327/.356/.770 5 HRs 13/42 BB/K in 431 PA's Daniel Castillo, SS, Venezuela, $140,000 (turning 20 in few weeks) Hasn't impressed in DSL or Arizona hitting only .212 with .305 OBP and OPS .557 not on many lists C Andres Melendez - Venezuela- $325,000 - (19 until May) .290/.374/.399/ .773 at 17 in DSL .250/.340/.352/.692 at 18 in Arizona *traded for Mark Mathias straight up No Bonus Found (Usually not big bonus if you can't find Oswal Leones - Venezuela - no Bonus Listed- (20 years old) Great DSL debut, maybe top offensive player on that team at 17. Struggles in Arizona at 18. C Jesus Chirinos - Venezuela - no Bonus Listed- (19 years old until almost August) .254/.394/.387/.782 at 16 in DSL Had struggles at 17 in Arizona with only a .203/.266/.271/.537 2018 Eduardo Garcia, SS, Venezuela, $1.1 million, 18 until July, #8 on MLB Top Prospect List Ranked #20 international prospect and already #8 in Brewers system. Injury and COVID has slowed him but in 10 games before injury at 16 hit .313/.450/.469/.919 Jesus Parra, 3B, Venezuela, $800,000? 18 until almost September He hit six homers and 15 doubles in 65 games in the 2019 DSL season. .247/.361/.410/.770 slash. Appears in many to most Top 30 list currently Rafael Martinez, CF, Venezuela $435,000, 19 all 2021 season .247/.302/.349/.652 slash at 17 in DSL had solid ISO of .103 a 8% BB% 12 SBs 9XBH including 4 triples Carlos Roa, SS, Venezuela $385,000 19 all 2021 season Only 52 PA's in 2019 with DSL Combo team but looked good! ISO of .20 thanks to 7XBH. Had wRC+ of 177. Slashed .417/.423/.625/ 1.048 in that small sample. Jhonny Cabrera, C, Venezuela -- $300,000, 18 until June One of the most impressive debuts with a good sample size! In 217 PA's he slashed .274/.396 /.402/.799 while cranking out 16 XBH for an ISO of of nearly .130. Walked 13.5% with wRC+ of 129 2019 Due to COVID non got to debut in real minor league action but a l of hype on some of these kids! 11 of their top 12 signings were Venezuelan kids. SS Luis Mendez #13 rank signing and $1.3 million bonus. Ranked #12 in system. One of 50 players at Fall Instructional League OF Hedbert Perez #49 ranked signing and $700,000 bonus. Ranked #9 in system and at 17 spent much of summer competing in Appleton verse the best in system. One of 50 players at Fall Instructional League C Jeferson Quero only signed for $200k but has flew up Brewer system rankings (#16) with great reviews. One of 50 players at Fall Instructional League Others with less mention so far: SS Jheremy Vargas $650,000 One of 50 players at Fall Instructional League. SS Alexander Perez $600,000 SS Beyker Pastran $300,000

2021 MLB Draft Thread (Pre-Draft Discussion)
Jenkins5 replied to Eye Black's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Exactly, we need to reload the system with young talent and grow them. #15, #32, and #50 is a great opportunity to continue to shot the system back in the arm. Think the combination of the core you mentioned, CC's coaching that seems to usually get more out of a team than people expect, and Stearns little moves such as waiver pick ups will keep team at least competitive and watchable. Don't think we need a fire sale rebuild but there are pieces and cost that could be moved to get our system strong. We need to get back to a place where we have talent coming up and producing and having options to trade for pieces when needed. Right now, we don't really have either option. Brewers have little money to spend, limited minor league trade bait that won't cripple system, and lack of impact players knocking on door. Tough to sustain success living like that in baseball. I think the recent drafts and international signings are starting to build some promising talent. Don't be throwing away picks. We need every lottery ticket we can get! -
2020 July 2 Signing Rumors
Jenkins5 replied to Spencer Michaelis's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
I enjoy that the moved signing date gives these kids the ability to start playing games right away in this season in DSL over them signing then having to wait rest of summer. Excited to see which of these guys names start to pop from both scouts and the Brewers themselves! Nothing better than signing a young kid like Perez and the team just gushing over him and challenging him! -
i hate teams that don't end in an S. for example Green Bay Booyah. Miami heat. least favorite of the 5 is moo. Always thought if a team was named Moose , that would be most frustrating name ever. Can't say Mooses or Meese. So dumb that there is no plural for Moose. It's not really relate but the word annoys me

Badgers line recruiting has been outstanding (if they land all of these guys). All these guys will be Redshirt Junior, sophomores, and Freshman together. How sure how they will all fit in on the line but a lot of versatility & depth! These are all 247 rankings. 2022 Class (no commitments but all very possible) Joe Brunner ......6’5 265 #3 .#42 ..4 Star Carson Hinzman 6’4 270 #4 .#116 4 Star Billy Schrauth ...6’5 285 #17 #152 4 Star 2021 Class Nolan Rucci ......6’8 295.#5.....#14....5 Star JP Benzschawel 6’7 260 #16...#131 ..4 Star Riley Mahlman .6’7 270 #17 ..#134 ..4 Star 2020 Class Trey Wedig....6’8 320...#7. ..#83.. 4 Star Jack Nelson ..6’7 273...#10..#104. 4 Star 2019 Class Logan Brown .6’6 305 .#4 .#15 ..5 Star Joe Tippmann 6’6 283 #26 #325 4 Star

I love me some Stearn lottery tickets! Really I had no emotional connection to Phelps. He gave us a good month and we have a handful of rising young bullpen arms. Some act like Phelps was a major piece for us to compete & now we are lost cause. We traded from a strength. If we separate this trade from disappointment about not adding a bat. It is a good trade. You never know if these guys will amount to much but what if they do? SoCal had great post above. It was first thing I thought reading through the negative posts. Fans complain about system and then complain about bringing promising young kids into the system. Don’t feel this trade will impact our MLB club that much & was great quick flip for DS! Phelps was doing well but the rise of Williams & Rasmussen makes me think we will be fine in back end. Peralta had back to back not very good outings but he is very capable & talented. Knebel will bounce back once his arm is 100%

Three years of control for guy who has been awarded top RP in 18, 19, and soon 20? If any team gets desperate and bites that bullet.... it is really going to hurt. You want elite plus a lot of control, you are going to have to offer the biggest package for RP to date. Padres.... pull that trigger & hand over LHP Gore (1), C Campusano (4), LHP Weathers (9), and OF Head (15). Won’t happen but still has to be deal that blows you away.

Has anyone lost confidence in Stearns
Jenkins5 replied to brewers888's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
This is the weirdest season in baseball history. We are 20 games into season. I’m traditionally anti doomsday/sky is fall so this just makes me laugh. We are writing guys off and hasn’t even been a month. Omar blasted the ball every game in blue/gold scrimmage but has struggled last 35 ABs so now he sucks & is useless. That kind of stuff is annoying to me. Yeah it’d be great if all these guys started hot, time is limited and I get that but you can’t make real judgement on any player this soon and with how this season/year has went. It’s like saying Yeli got his contract & now is checked out, doesn’t care, and is now garbage because he has had rough go so far. I have lost zero confidence in Stearns. People complain about farm system but we literally just traded off & graduated all our high level guys. We have ton of very high ceiling guys in system they are just mostly under AA. National publications tend to only rate high draft picks or huge international signing babies very highly before AA. Stearns has been very aggressive in international signings but the oldest kid so far is only 21 I think. Takes time to reap some/any benefits of signing all these 16 years. The fact national publications still give no love to Feliciano blows mind. Missed year 19 mostly with injuries but comes back at 20 to win league MVP in one of toughest hitter leagues. At 18, he spent half the season as one of top players in MWL before 1st full season fatigue kicked in. But again, like I said, below AA & not bonus baby or high first round pick. I have a feeling come September this Brewer team will start rolling & be a tough out in playoffs. Don’t think they will win a World Series this year but competitive enough to make a run. 20 games just isn’t enough to get worried about. -
Peralta, Williams, Hader, Phelps, and Suter are absolutely locked in coming out of pen & putting up huge K% K% Peralta 46%, Williams 44%, Hader 43%, Phelps 36% FIP Peralta .97, Phelps 1.31, Suter 2.39, Hader 2.57, & Williams 2.88 Burnes & Woodruff have been racking up Ks but few. Been walking a few to many but been tough to hit. Houser has been solid. Arcia & Urias are looking good. Yelich is finding it. Pina 7 game hit streak Back to .500 & just won 3 verse top team so far in NL. 64% chance at making playoffs.

Being the absolutely huge Burnes homer that I am, there is just a smile from ear to year that he is going #2 vs Cubs! His string of CY Young’s restarts now!

Summer Camp (aka Spring Training 2.0)
Jenkins5 replied to A Swing and A Drive's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I read this morning that J.P. Feyereisen dropped 30 pounds during the lockdown period. That seems pretty crazy. That cannot be healthy Typically healthy weight loss should be about 2-3 pounds a week. It’s been about 16 weeks so 30 pounds sounds about where he should be if caloric deficit is around 600-800 calories. I don’t really know what his size was before but in order to loss that much, he must have had a good amount of extra weight to him. Sidenote, has anyone seen CC Sabathia currently? He is looking fantastic! Has cut off all the fat & looking pretty muscular. Similar to Joe Thomas post retirement transformation. -
Kelley & Dillard are exciting surprises! Must be real high on the two! The rest were all guys I figured would make cut. Erceg is easily the biggest loser. There were such high hopes for him but being in AAA and not even considered for top 60 is rough
-
Well Arizona is mostly in lockdown again until late July. Not sure how that impacts the facility & his ability there. Appleton will have many of the coaches & instructors there working with them. He will be around higher talent, face better pitchers, and all with no pressure of stats like he would with an advance placement during a normal season to face similar competition. You invest in a talented college OF who you’d hope to move fast... why not. There’s a good amount of other OFs who would need to go down for him to have to move up. He’d literally be 60th man. A lot has to go wrong for him to be forced up.
-
Now with Mitchell signing, does anyone see him being put on 60 man roster? Head to Appleton and get in some work?
-
Bickford, Sanchez, OTC are a few names I missed before. All could very well make it
-
Brown's on the list. Was hoping we'd see File this year, but I didn't think he was within two months of making it. More realistically, I thought Perdomo was on now or never time and would have made it. Good catch, missed that. Glad he made it.

Last 15 spots will be interesting. Do they take some bigger name prospects like Turang/ Lutz even though they still aren’t very close? Think it’s still good experience for them to be at Wisconsin with more advanced players. My best guess: Pitchers C. Andrews Z. Brown T. Supek E. Small A. Bettinger A. Ashby C. Mario Feliciano P. Henry C. Hummel IF L. Erceg B. Turang J. Gatewood OF T. Taylor C. Ray T. Lutz Probably missed some better options but this is just my guess. Brown, Andrews, Erceg, Ray, and Taylor were definitely the biggest losers of the 45 man imo. All guys I felt would get a look for it.

Wisconsin Basketball Thread 2019 - 20: BIG TEN CHAMPS & BPI NCAA Champs!
Jenkins5 replied to homer's topic in Other Sports
Probably should just take time away to deal with whatever personal reasons caused him to leave UW & back out on Nebraska. I won’t pretend to know his story or what is going on with him but until whatever it is behind him.... wherever he could end same way. Wish him best wherever he ends up. -
2020 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 1-5
Jenkins5 replied to Eye Black's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Great to see! They seem much higher on Brewers than listening to Callis on Bill Michaels. He liked draft but like we have all said, each prospect they grabbed has at least one great tool if not multiple but each has some risk with another tool. Warren kind of gives off a richer man’s Zelous Wheeler. Good hit tool & makes a lot of contact & real versatile but power hasn’t really shown much & Overall does everything good but nothing great. Gritty guy. I was real big fan of Wheeler & think Warren has higher ceiling for sure. Probably just me. I don’t see him staying at catcher. Hoping power comes enough for 3rd down road. Think 2nd or LF very well could become his home. Brewers have maybe more quality depth at Catcher in system than any team out there. Cantrelle is sneaky great pick. His swagger & athleticism is through roof as well. Overall he could really pop up as a top prospect -
2022 is definitely the best class in Fondy history with Allen & Schrauth. Rumor has it that Allen may head to IMG in Florida for senior year. Think it depends on if SEC schools coming knocking more after this season. Have a feeling he won’t go to UW. I hope he does but he is close to having his pick of anywhere. I’d say FSU, Michigan, and ND are biggest threats right now. Iowa was first in on him when he was Freshmen. Billy I think is more likely but Wisconsin will have to battle. UW, ND, Michigan, and Iowa are all schools that produce NFL linemen so can’t really go wrong with any. He has 1 SEC in Tennessee. I coached Bill in Football & Track his freshman year & I’m just excited for him! Both his brothers were all-state studs. Mankato & Winona they ended up playing at. He is an athlete. Hope he ends up on the DLine but he will be great on either side

2020 July 2 Signing Rumors
Jenkins5 replied to Spencer Michaelis's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
It’s not discussed much but it amazes me their approach to international signings. Spend big up the middle as we have come to expect but in Stearns era they have yet to give big bonuses to pitchers. They kind of spend very conservatively on them. Hope that these cheaper arms grow, fill out, and blossom. With risk involved with young pitchers, I definitely get it but still surprises me -
2020 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 1-5
Jenkins5 replied to Eye Black's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
When it comes to profile, Hart instantly jumped into my head. Size, power, arm, and speed fit great. Not sure what Hart’s scouting report was coming out of high school as 11th rounder but based on results, think Hart had less contact concerns. He pretty much hit right away. Dominated AA & think won MVP that year. So not sure if his bat had the hole Wiemer does but Hart potential is def there! -
2020 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 1-5
Jenkins5 replied to Eye Black's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
I'm also anxious for some pitching, but doesnt it seem like Stearns and company draft a lot of hitters? Perhaps the idea is to develop hitting and trade/sign pitching? Was just going to say that. Draft & develop prospects at premium position & use depth to help trade for pitching could be a possible strategy. Don’t think they are intentionally avoiding pitching though, just playing the board. I’ve liked every pick so far so hard for me to be upset with no arms yet. I don’t see all 5 rounds being bats but who knows.
