  1. mlb.com reported last week that he's not near returning. Looks like Mid-Sept at earliest, and that wouldn't even be stretched out. Stearns told Grindle in the pre-game today that Woodruff should begin throwing off a mound next week. So yeah, by mid-september he should be ready to start. Will he be stretched out for starting though? Or just pitch multi-inning relief like last year?
  2. I tend to agree here. If you said 20, I'd buy that. Maybe 1-2 starts and a PH appearance in half the games. With 50, you're looking at giving him 8-9 starts minimum out of 28 games in September...with some PH added in. The only way he gets to 50 is if...i dunno maybe he goes 3 for 3 in his first 3 PH opportunities with 2 homers, then gets a start and goes 3 for 4 with a homer. All foolish and unlikely stuff, I'd plan on him getting 15-20 PA max barring injury or a plummet in the standings.
  3. I never thought this was THAT crazy either. It wouldn't surprise me if a team gave him a 2 year deal in the $10-12 million range. I don't know that it's wise for the Brewers to spend that money that much money on a very questionable arm, but the upside he's shown can probably get him a deal in that range.
  4. I think he's gotta throw offspeed to Ozuna. I remember him having success against Hader. He really sells out on the high fastball...
  5. Agree. Get Pomeranz to warm up, just in case he doesn’t have it. I'd be more inclined to have Jackson warm, Cardinals are very RH heavy. But either way yeah, we should be ready in case it looks bad early.
  6. Are they planning to use Hader for 2 innings? I don't really like that to be honest. I'd rather him focus on getting through 1 clean.
  7. Well that's definitely worth a 3 year extension...
  8. Junior's splitter is pretty nasty today. Nice to see him throwing that pitch...
  9. Lyles is starting to get a bit shaky, I hope the bullpen is starting to loosen up a bit.
  10. I have a hard time believing that happens. I think one of Davies/Anderson is gone to make room for a better arm. I also think Burnes factors into the mix at some point. He's far too talented to be hit as hard as he has...he'll figure out a fix and go back to being a very good pitcher.
  11. So that's twice in a row we've scored with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs...
  12. Gotta love seeing Spangenberg advance the runner. Generally easier to do for a lefty, but still like to see good baseball. Now just need Arcia to do something besides strikeout and pop out.
  13. Bahahaha, Dejong strikes out on a pitch almost over his head.
  14. He’s not THAT good. We’ve hit him hard early this year already. Look at his post all-star break number. Spoiler, ERA starts with 0.
  15. This is the part where Flaherty strikes out 15 through 7 innings...exciting stuff about to happen. Less pessimism about the Brewers, moreso Flaherty has been ridiculous.
  16. I love the optimism. I hope you're right. We're approaching a point where we need to seriously catch fire to have a chance. And I haven't seen much fire the last 2 days.
  17. The legality is highly questionable but since most of the foreign players will want to return to the US on work visas, even if they have the legal right to do so spending months trying to sort out visa issues is not good especially since MLB says they want to stay out of it. I would think it's very much legal for guys that have contracts for 2020. The league probably can't enforce anything but their MLB teams certainly could. There has to be language in every contract that says the player needs team permission to play anywhere in the offseason. I'm not a legal expert by any stretch, but the Brewers specifically have pulled players from leagues or prevented players from playing. I know they've done this with Junior Guerra and Arcia specifically, probably plenty of others. They also didn't allow Gallardo to pitch for Mexico in the WBC one year. I think it's safe to assume each team is going to enact those restrictions to all their players based on MLB's stance. It makes sense for MLB to issue an announcement versus all 30 teams making their own announcement.
  18. Suter doesn't seem to be getting enough write-ins...
  19. I feel like I should factcheck this, but there's no way he's lying right? How crazy is this?
  20. I've been saying 88 to make the playoffs personally, quite a few teams on an 84-86 win pace...I feel like the odds of at least one of those teams hitting a hot streak is pretty good. I think 88 would be comfortably making it, if I knew right now we'd end the season with 86 wins...I would put our playoffs odds around 50/50. I see your point though, below 86 wins we basically have almost no chance...so that's probably the minimum number of wins we should be shooting for.
  21. tyrone taylor has surged himself (hitting a three run homer already tonight). entering tonight's game, his august slash: .360 / .421 / .593. Despite those numbers, I doubt we'd see much from Mr. Taylor besides pinch running and defense. Stokes has a pretty good chance of getting kicked off the 40 man.
  22. I would like to see Cain Grisham Yelich Hiura Thames Moose Grandal Spangenberg P I like Braun opening on the bench, and PH for Thames when they inevitably go to a LH reliever to face that section of the order. Moose and Thames would be interchangeable.
  23. I think 2 out of 3 is a fairly required if we want any shot at the division. We could lose 2 of 3 and still have a shot at the 2nd wildcard, but I think it's all over for the division if that happens. And really, we need to get the first 2. We don't want to face Flaherty needing a win. The best SP(per WAR) since the allstar break goes Degrom, Verlander, Thor, Flaherty...and Flaherty has arguably been slightly better with the lowest ERA of the 4. I'm not sure we can win that game, so we really need to get the first 2. Fortunately, we've had some success against Mikolas and Wainwright. I think we have a slight advantage today, and a bigger advantage tomorrow with Houser vs Mikolas.
  24. Man, I was really hoping for the salad man to have about 3 or 4 plate appearances the rest of the season...all with the bases loaded. But I think most people have it fairly spot on. Locks include Suter, Nelson, Faria, Black, Gamel, Shaw, and one of Nottingham/Freitas. Others could include the other of the 2 catchers, and someone like Tyrone Taylor for defense/base running. We could also sign someone specifically for that role. I don't think we will have significant 40 man issues in bringing back Nelson/Suter or signing a speed guy.
  25. Jeez Brent Suter...do we seriously just plug him right into the rotation and plan for shorter starts? We'll be able to rotate arms with relative ease to make sure we have a fresh pen...just in case. Especially with how crazy the offense is in AAA this year, he certainly looks ready to pitch.
