  1. I told a buddy of mine before the inning started that if braun got an atbat, the brewers would win. I still believe that to be true, but obviously didn't happen. Those that say umps can't change the game with a few calls should watch this one over. Probably 6 or 7 really bad calls that almost all went against us...a few in very critical spots. The hiura out and the 2-1 pitch to cain jumping out at me most. I feel ok with how team played. I generally think we outperformed the dbacks today, especially from the 5th inning on...but even before that we had our chances to score and simply didn't take advantage. Oh well, 2 of 3 is good. I would be thrilled with another 2 of 3 against the cards
  2. I haven't seen anything, but safe to assume this move was made because chacin won't be ready to pitch before end of season? This is the end of his contract so no sense keeping him on if he can't pitch

  5. Apparently major league and minor league players will not be allowed to play in Venezuelan winter league. I know we have quite a few players who participate in that, and I believe Arcia has been a regular for a while.
  6. Technically I don't think the Astros can do that. Verlander can choose not to answer the guy's questions but Astros can't block him from entering the room. I checked out the guys twitter and he has trolled Verlander pretty hard for a while. Just idiot stuff. Even so...just ignore or dont answer his questions. From what I gather, according to the rules he should be allowed in there...but i personally think this was the correct and best possible result. JV made an effort to try and let that press company know he didn't want that guy there and to have someone else show up. Naturally, they ignored his request and ignored JV's side of the story in the article. Clearly this media guy is simply a jerk, I don't blame JV at all for not letting him in. It's a one off situation, he doesn't face Detroit that often. And a fine is probably whatever to JV considering his salary. So yes JV and the Astros were wrong to not let him in according to the rules...but really they did the right thing...in my opinion anyway.
  7. Apparently Astros security blocked a specific reporter from the clubhouse during Justin Verlander's post game interview. Very interesting argument here.
  8. Crap. At this point, stick him in the rotation and let him get 3 innings every 5 days. Couldn't hurt right now. This is a unique case that it might actually make sense to have him "open" and have someone like Lyles come in after he hits his restrictions. Theoretically could be a full blown save the bullpen day if both guys are on. Lots of options, but it definitely makes sense to hold off until September.
  9. Yeah I see it got pulled down. It said that Turang would be playing as well, which is very surprising to me.
  10. If Suter needs to come in for a starter in the 5th inning of a 4-1 game and can give us 2-3 clean innings, that's incredibly valuable. Gives us a chance to come back and saves high leverage relievers for better spots. Suter can absolutely help this club down the stretch...even pitching in those types of situations. I know this isn't the Jimmy Nelson thread, but take a look at his last 5 outings. If he can continue to build on that, we might get some help from him in the bullpen as well. I would have no problem putting Jimmy into higher leverage spots if he can pitch in a couple low leverage MLB spots successfully first.
  11. Best case scenario, we are one game behind this projection after today. Easiest places to steal an extra game are probably home vs CHC, home vs SD, or home vs Pit...not in any particular order.
  12. I'm not a huge fan of Grandal hitting 2nd. Too slow, too much GIDP. It only makes sense if Cain can get to 2b often, so if we're going to do that...he needs to be stealing way more often when he gets to 1b. Man we really need to salvage one game here. Not a must win, but it's tough to bounce back from a sweep where we are currently in teh standings.
  13. Were these announced? Just saw this on my twitter feed. https://twitter.com/MLBazFallLeague/status/1164253287937273856
  14. Jesus Aguilar got tossed for the first time in his career. Knowing Aguilar, I figured this was an ump being stupid as he's not the type to argue and get tossed. But I rewound on mlb.tv and watched, he slammed his bat on a called 3rd strike and started talking to the ump. He seemed calm enough in talking, but he's such a big and intimidating dude...coupled with slamming his bat, I'm not surprised by it. I generally disagree with tossing guys out of games in almost all cases, but considering what is standard practice...his actions are an ejection almost all the time.
  15. 24% seems like a lot, I feel like Arcia could get just about anywhere on the field in 4.4 seconds.
  16. If he has a bad outing today, I'll take all the blame. I just picked him up in my fantasy league. My pitching situation is a disaster so taking a long shot.
  17. I was thinking that too. I'm going to be very sad when the Cubs don't extend him.
  18. Making that move is within the rules, but the lefty getting the final out of the 5th would get the win. That's generally how it works, but I think the scorer has some discretion on who to give the win. I specifically remember once this year Hader pitched maybe the 7th and 8th inning and was given the win over whoever completed the 5th inning.
  19. I agree. But, God, do I hope I'm wrong. With the year Christian Yelich is having, it just will seem like such a waste if we don't get to bonus baseball. He could win another batting title, put up 50 home runs and 30 stolen bases. The guy's just special. I want to see him take it to the next level in the post season. The team was built to win games on offense. For better or worse, that's what we are. If the bats get hot enough, they can definitely win 90+ games. Especially with the schedule softening around the same time Woodruff/Chacin should be back.
  20. Where does this idea that Weeks had a poor approach come from? He never had a poor approach and produced OBPs of .363 at age 23 and .374 at age 24. Weeks was notorious for repeatedly waiving at outside sliders. It was a hole in his approach the majority of his career, and ultimately his downfall. I guess agree to disagree on Weeks, I thought he was patient to a fault due to leading off...and yes the slider away issues plagued a lot of that RH-heavy squad including Weeks. But regardless, the Gomez/Baez examples are still good examples. I could probably come up with more but I think you get the general jist of it. But that's also not to say that every young hitter with great bad speed and poor approach will have 3-4 all-star caliber seasons age 26-29. Mostly just food for thought. We don't have a slam-dunk easy decision at SS for next year...that much is certain.
  21. Great post I feel like 88 is going to be enough for a playoff spot. The Nationals with a 1.5 game wildcard lead would need to go 23-16 to get to 90. While it's possible, the NL did not soften at the deadline and there won't be many cheap wins out there. I think so many teams being involved in the wildcard is going to keep any team from running away with it. And the division is of course still in play as well.
  22. In fact where were you when he threw out about me whining for stating an opinion? Why no hey man that is unnecessary. Agree or disagree but no need for that. Don't pick and choose man. Wrong is wrong. Admittedly, that part of my comment was unnecessary and not helpful. The negativity and complaining has always bugged me and I'll always make that clear. These in game threads are always best when the attitude is generally positive and hopeful. Obviously some people will be annoyed by some things, but man it couldn't be more obvious that we're caught between a rock and hard place with this one. We don't have a good alternative for Davies.
  23. I will be very curious how SS pans out for next year. I'm a bit torn on whether to keep at it with Arcia. He hasn't been good at the plate, but he also just turned 25...so he's still young. Some guys with great bat speed but poor approach tend to struggle early but then have great seasons in the 26-29 age range. Rickie Weeks, Carlos Gomez, Javy Baez...to name a couple examples. Do you hope on that, or go out an get someone that would at best be solid/unspectacular?
  24. Thanks for noting. I get you can't keep everyone, but I liked Burch Smith and thought he was very underrated. Oh well.
  25. Fair enough. The board is simply much more enjoyable when it isn't filled with complaints. But I'll just ask you directly then, who is the better alternative to Davies in your opinion?
