  1. I don't think that's even close to what the reality would be in extension talks. He got over $5 million in arbitration this year and has it for 2 more years. He's basically guaranteed to get raises assuming we tender him a contract, and is probably looking at around $14-16 million over the next 2 years alone. If Corey were to take an extension, you are probably looking moreso at a 3 year extension...possibly 4. Maybe those numbers would be 3/$24 million or 4/$36 million not including his 2019 salary...and frankly those are a bit optimistic and friendly towards the Brewers. That said, I'm not interested in extending Corey. As much as I hate to say it, it looks highly likely that we'll have a 3-4 year window of competitiveness before needing to retool/rebuild. We have 3 years of control on Corey and the ability to back out at any time if he starts to suck or his arm falls off, and if we did have to cut him loose...we could allocate his projected salary to a different, productive player.
  2. You don't want to play a guy like Perez what it would take to extend him. He's really not a very good hitter, and he's solid/unspectacular at most spots on the field. I'm expecting this to be Perez last year with the team, and Dubon to take on his role as a better version of Perez in 2020 and beyond.
  3. I’m by no means a Harper fan at all, but if you’re telling me you can’t find room for him on your team when you’ve finished below .500 8 seasons in a row, then I’m not sure what to tell you. They have a couple promising looking young guys, but they won’t all pan out. They could trade a couple outfielders or option one and keep him as depth incase of an inevitable injury. In my opinion, it would be pretty easy to sort out. I mostly agree, but there are definitely cases where it would make no sense to add X player. For example, there's 0 reason the Blue Jays should be involved in Moustakas. The Padres don't really have anyone of Vlad caliber or even anyone projected to be a likely all-star in their outfield that's blocking Harper. As long as Harper or Myers can play some CF, they can easily mix in the best 2 of Reyes/Margot/Renfroe/Cordero into a bit of a rotation. Without looking, I suspect some of them could be optioned to maintain depth. Point is, Harper is so much of an upgrade over every one of those guys.
  4. I believe I saw that factoring windchill, we'd be seeing almost a 100 degree swing from Tues/Wed to Sun/Mon. Ridiculous
  5. This is pure gold. Because how could you possibly consider adding Harper if it meant you wouldn't know what to do with Travis Jankowski.
  6. This meeting is quite the circus. One guy says the meeting is tomorrow, another says tonight, another says this afternoon. They all seem to have a source telling something. I don't think the Padres are a token bidder that's wasting their time. I also wouldn't be overly surprised if they got both Harper and then Realmuto. Harper was heavily lobbying for the Nationals to trade for Realmuto last year. Those 2 guys plus Hosmer/Myers could fit 2-5 in the lineup with young players/prospects filling the other spots, and then they just have to hope their ridiculously talented and deep minor league pitching pans out.
  7. In the 3-5 minutes I spent on google looking at this, removing this bone from the wrist likely won't impact his ability to grip/swing the bat. Though discomfort in the wrist could have caused issues for Perez during the 2018 season. This is about that time of year where you find out about nagging injuries guys were dealing with prior season and how they are going to bounce back this year.
  8. From what I've personally seen recently. It appears the Padres, White Sox, and Phillies all want to add one of Harper/Machado as an impact talent. The Nationals are also in play for Harper to some degree. It's basically just enough bidders to keep the prices sky high for the players. Hopefully this saga ends soon, I still expect Harper to get over $300 million in guarantee. I also expect at least one of these two contracts to be obscenely complex...probably more complex than Pollock.
  9. I think if any collusion exists, it's directed solely at Boras. I think owners got a bit ticked off by some of the deals he was able to scrape up for his clients and are trying to get rid of him. I have 0 evidence to support this, it's also possible that hardball tactics simply aren't working anymore and other agents have accepted this much moreso than Boras.
  10. Who are these high yield trade chips?
  11. This seems more credible than a lot of the nonsense we've seen. I thought I remember Keuchel having some negative comments towards the Brewers bullpen heavy approach during the playoffs last year. Based on that, I'd be surprised if he picked us...assuming we are even involved. That said, I'm sure he could get more on board with our approach real quick if we offered him the most money.
  12. I'm in agreement with a couple others on the Cubs pitching staff. Their bullpen is also notably getting older. This estimate also figures on Bryant coming back as a 4 or less WAR guy and not the 6-7 WAR guy he is when fully healthy. I'm also expecting the Pirates to start selling players if/when they start slow. Brewers 94 Cardinals 88 Reds 87 Cubs 83 Pirates 68
  13. As much as it won't happen, that lineup has me salivating. Throw Thames in there as DH or have Woodruff pitch and therefore hit as well...very few teams can match up with that lineup on paper.
  14. I'm pretty sure Machado would get stuffed head-first into a toilet by Aguilar if the Brewers signed him.
  15. Looks like Wisconsin is not the state for Josh. In fairness, conditions are absolutely brutal right now and only going to get worse.
  16. I have a theory that Bryce may make a decision on his team today and I'll explain why. I'm a big fan of mlbtheshow for PS4, their cover athlete this year is Bryce. I thought that was a weird pick personally, the year before was Judge and the year before that was Griffey. Nothing about Bryce really stood out this year aside from his FA. I got the impression from their cover athlete announcement that Bryce would announce his new team through mlbtheshow cover art. If that were the case, it would make a lot more sense for mlbtheshow to pick Bryce as it would be excellent marketing for them. Well, mlbtheshow tweeted this yesterday. It's completely possible and maybe even likely that whatever news they refer to is more about the game and unrelated to Bryce and his new team. I'll be keeping an eye on it though, would certainly be fun if he finally announced a decision today.
  17. And if a higher percentage of those 100+ exit velocity outs go over the fence...that raises his avg, obp, and slugging. If Braun thinks it's the best thing to do, he's probably right and it will probably be a good adjustment. If only it was that simple. It's not. Altering the plane of your swing is not an automatic positive outcome. Since he was hitting the ball quite hard last year there's plenty of reason to say don't change a thing. Well right, it's not that simple. But a change isn't also a guaranteed bad outcome. It's really tough to argue that the guy JD Martinez hired and transformed him from an upper 800s ops guy to an over 1000 ops star is a bad guy to hire to help you with your swing/mechanics.
  18. That was just ridiculous speculation. Looking at past news reports, he was reported as being 'on schedule' in May 2018 which basically meant 2019 unless there was some sort of miracle. Then progress plateaued in the summer and he was officially declared out in August. After such a long rehab his comments are the best you can hope for. Nobody is going to expect him to be a #1 starter this year but I admire his confidence. I'm pretty sure I remember reading that Nelson pitched in fall instructs. I suspect that if the Brewers were 10 games under 500 in September, he might have pitched. You can't throw such an unknown into a playoff race though, especially if it might be safer to simply wait until next year.
  19. If he does make the opening day roster(or really whenever he starts pitching in the rotation), I would anticipate the Brewers treating him like a young arm on an innings limit. Skip him in the rotation more often than the other guys to give him extended rest and limit the shoulder a bit. Having Nelson in the rotation definitely makes it tougher to carry 2 of the younger arms in the rotation as you want at least a couple guys that can definitely take the ball every 5th day and allow for a younger arm and/or Nelson in this case to be skipped every so often.
  20. Man these writers are geniuses. List top 3 prospects "the Marlins could have interest in these guys, though the Reds would prefer not to trade them". I suspect Heyman has literally no idea who's being talked about in any potential trade...though the amount of smoke from multiple writers and that point we are at in the offseason, makes me think talks are progressing. I think I've seen writers say talks are progressing about the Dodgers, Padres, and Reds regarding Realmuto within the last week.
  21. I find those projections to be a bit insane considering the young talent the Braves have. I know the Nationals have an elite rotation and are solid overall, and the Mets have improved...still seems crazy to project the Braves that low.
  22. A number of others have made the point that it wouldn't at all be a stretch to say he isn't 100% ready to go from his shoulder injury, and he could still go on the DL for that. Given what teams are putting guys on the DL for these days, I doubt the Brewers would have any issue doing that if he wasn't 100% ready. I'm expecting Jimmy to be ready to go, work ethic second to none...if it's possible to come back from this injury, he'll do it.
  23. And if a higher percentage of those 100+ exit velocity outs go over the fence...that raises his avg, obp, and slugging. If Braun thinks it's the best thing to do, he's probably right and it will probably be a good adjustment.
  24. You could say literally the exact same thing about Jeffress after the 2017 offseason. 73 hits in 65 innings. 1.638 whip. 5.24 FIP. You want to broaden the sample a bit with relievers. I can understand some of the concerns on Brach, but he's had such a lengthy history of success(and he's not really THAT old for a reliever)...that I suspect he'll adjust this offseason and bounce back just fine.
  25. This deal says a lot about how valuable merrifield truly is. He's not a guy you back up the prospect truck for
