  1. I've been on to this exact thought process since the ghost runner started. It drove me nuts that we'd use a strikeout pitcher like Hader in the 9th in a tie game, and then throw Suter or Boxberger in for the 10th. Those guys have a pretty good shot at pitching a clean 9th...but a much lower chance of pitching a clean 10th and stranding a runner at 2nd considering they don't strike out 15 batters per 9. Even those guys having a successful inning, like a groundball to 2b and a medium deep can of corn to CF...that's a run. I feel like 2017/2018 CC would have figured this out, over the last few years he's become much more traditional and less creative.
  2. A buddy of mine is at the game with good seats. He swears burnes told counsell to "get the food off my mound". I really hope he's right...
  3. Turang being a league average hitter is quite valuable with his defense. Especially considering his offense will probably at least moderately improve over the next few years as he gets experience against MLB pitching.
  4. Turang about to turn his hitting completely around now that they traded Urias away so he can have his number of choice back...
  5. This has been a fun thread. I just wanted to add that, I don't really have any desire to add a positive spin to anything as the loss yesterday was absolutely brutal. Some things I hope the players take from the last week include 1. small leads aren't safe, need to keep adding tack on runs 2. we can't expect the bullpen to be perfect. The Brewers players should enter every game with the mentality that they are playing the Braves and need to score 8 runs to even have a chance at winning.
  6. Miller had the month of his life in May and outside of May was the AAAA hitter he'd been in his career to this point.
  7. 1) Santana for Barrios - C+. Barrios is a fair amount to give up for him, and I wish we aimed a little higher in this spot. 1b/RF/DH are great spots to prioritize offense a bit more than defense. I would call my thoughts a philosophical difference from the front office. 2) Canha for Jarvis - B+. From a value standpoint this seems very good. We essentially got Canha for nothing, for a guy we weren't going to protect from rule 5. I wish we had aimed higher than Canha, and so far in interviews I get a sense that he really doesn't want to be here, like he wants to still be playing in New York. No way for Brewers brass to know about that last part. 3) Chafin for Strezlecki - B. We might regret this a couple years from now if Strezlecki re-establishes himself. I had the sense he was pitching out of his mind a bit to be in the setup role. He seems like the type that's gonna flip from good to bad often and will settle in at middle relief value. Chafin provides immediate help and has a very strong track record. His stuff has played better than his numbers this season so far. 4) Blalock for Urias - A. Urias is a DFA candidate, we got something with potential for essentially nothing. And I generally appreciate giving guys an opportunity when they are stuck. 5) McKendry for Jackson - C. I don't know much about these guys, seems like a depth move that is fine. Missed opportunities= Eloy Jimenez/Jake Burger. The price was seemingly prohibitive on these guys so maybe this is more wishful thinking. I think Grichuk was a great target and would have been a better fit than Canha. Overall deadline Grade= B. I wish we picked a different target than Canha. I also think they were too focused on defense and may have been better served having an offense first guy in RF that could DH a fair amount. Looking specifically at grichuk.
  8. I'm glad the Brewers finally realized that Miller has cooled and shouldn't be getting meaningful atbats. Despite my anti-Miller sentiment, it's more likely that simply Monasterio has outplayed him and deserves the roster spot more than Miller right now.
  9. First, I want to note that I didn't mention you by name...yet you seemed to know exactly who I was talking about. There's much more that goes into analyzing a reliever to determine whether an option will be picked up and you know that. Over his career he's been about a 1 WAR reliever, which for a reliever is pretty solid. He's had only one or two true down years in his career, he had a career best year in 2021 only 2 years ago. If you cherry pick a couple metrics...and only for 2023 while ignoring his prior success...yeah I guess he looks a bit like a middle reliever. If you open your eyes just a little bit more...and look at the entire picture, he's clearly much better than a middle reliever and will slot in ahead of Milner and among Peguero/Payamps for key innings out of the bullpen. The thing is, it's very clear you know what you're talking about. This is why I keep saying you don't argue in good faith, because I believe you see the entire picture and choose to ignore it...cherry pick the most anti-brewer version possible...and run with that story. If your goal is to rile up users on the forums and be the maximum buzzkill you can be, I mean I guess that's probably effective to a degree for some of the users.
  10. If 92 is hard throwing, everyone in the league is hard throwing except Suter and Hendricks.
  11. There's not consternation, there's the same guy as usual going against the grain being anti-brewer in his effort to appear as the voice of reason.
  12. First off, he has the option that you're missing that will be exercised. Second, reliever numbers are volatile as one bad outing can crush them...and you're ignoring a few years of consistently good/great results. It's fair to say people may be undervaluing Strezlecki a bit here, but dunking down the value of Chafin to go against the grain(which you tend to do) is not arguing in good faith. You know very well you are cherry picking here.
  13. Chafin has a $7.25M option for next year that is likely to be exercised as he's probably worth more than that unless he's horrendous down the stretch. He may not be a Brewer in 2024 but we can also exercise the option and trade him.
  14. Did this return get confirmed by anyone else? Anyone more reliable I guess? It's weird to only see the return reported by one guy, usually it gets reported by a bunch of people
  15. If this is the trade, I'm actually comfortable with it.
  16. He has a reasonable club option that will almost certainly be exercised barring injury. So there's a fair amount of value there. Plus, reliever...left handed...etc.
  17. I'm cringing at the potential cost here. Chafin is certainly very valuable.
  18. You were wrong on this too. The Mets effectively gave canha away, is difficult to argue otherwise...and paid most of his salary.
  19. Well the brewers so far have added zero pitchers, and 2 bats that will likely slot into the middle of the order. I would consider that fairly drastic but you tell me...
  20. Mets paying his remaining 2023 salary. Potentially saving some $ there that can be used in another acquisition. We essentially got canha for free. The only fair arguments are that we should have aimed higher, and we still can. There's no rule that says we can't get another outfielder and have to play canha.
  21. I wish they got someone better, but from a value standpoint it seems fine. Jarvis was set to be exposed to rule 5 and decent chance he gets plucked there anyway. I wonder if any money is coming back to cover part of Canha's salary. I don't think this has too much of an impact on any Eloy Jimenez talks. My guess is Yelich/Frelick/Wiemer/Canha rotate the 3 outfield spots with Yelich getting some time at DH as well. You could still bring in a DH only and not have too much trouble getting everyone at bats...and be plenty covered in the event of injury. Depth matters down the stretch.
  22. It says a lot about how valuable pitching is compared to hitting at this deadline. Civale is under team control for 2 additional seasons. This really should drive home that it isn't exactly a sellers market on the hitting front, and it would make some sense to trade one of Houser/Rea for a position player if they are valued by another team.
  23. Literally laughed out loud at this. I think this article has a lot more merit if you pull Chourio's name out of it completely. He's just not getting traded. He's probably the only prospect we have that's effectively off the table in all realistic trade scenarios.
  24. I went poking around on the white sox forums again. There's a thread on the Eloy Brewers rumor. They seem to view Burger/Eloy as similar value all things considered, they also seem to think Tyler Black would be fair value for either one of the players. Some said they MIGHT consider Misiorowski. The Lara/Adams being held out yesterday had them completely uninterested. I'm not going to apply my opinion to that, that's simply the general consensus I gathered from the opposing viewpoint.
