  1. Looks like the Cardinals may be landing Holland...far and away the most logical fit. If it happens, I'm guessing 2/30ish with an option.
  2. I'm not sure I'd say the Cubs didn't do much. Darvish and a revamped bullpen, though admittedly they don't have a single reliever as good as Davis or Chapman to anchor their pen though. Many very solid guys though. The Cards also made some minor moves along with getting Ozuna, they have some good young players as well that can improve. I'm a fairly optimistic Brewer fan, I'm most concerned with the Cubs offense this year. Much moreso than their pitching...which I'm hoping will tank their season.
  3. Drake must have some inside dirt on the front office or something, that's the only way I can explain him keeping his job.
  4. Drake...ugh. Why? It's getting difficult to embrace the decisions the brewers are making. Depth and quality depth are 2 different things. Drake is barely even depth...he certainly isn't quality depth. I really hope he only costs us 2 or 3 games before we cut him...
  5. I doubt it, I think Thames was dealing with something minor but I don't think that's it. There's an outside chance we are working a bigger trade, but it's far more likely we are trying to get something for one of these guys or will simply cut one within the next 19 hours or so. There's 0 chance we will have Braun, Thames, Aguilar, and Choi on the 25 man roster tomorrow. Well this post aged well...

  7. I'm a bit curious why the yankees and other seem to think Greg Bird is so good. I'm not even remotely convinced he's a better player than Aguilar or Choi based on his years of milb and mlb production. Why is he talked of so highly in baseball and by the Yankees?
  8. So is my dynasty fantasy league as I traded a lot to get him. *sigh* Definitely not good for baseball to see an arm like that go under the knife.
  9. I'd say this is about right on the hitter side, though I'm not sure how long Aguilar is going to last and I guess there's an outside chance Choi is kept over Aguilar. Pitching side, I would remove lopez and drake and pick 2 of Williams, Hoover, and Drake. Yes I know Drake could be added back, the other names are all basically locked in while he isn't so it makes sense to look at it this way. The thought of him on the opening day roster makes me sad. I'll want to throw things if he makes it and Williams gets sent down.
  10. The lineup today is about what I expect it to be to open the season. The primary difference will be no Thames as we won't have a DH. On a daily basis, you'll basically subtract one of Braun, Santana, Thames and slide everyone else up. On days Braun sits, I imagine Villar/Sogard gets bumped to the 1 or 2 hole with Yelich hitting 3rd.
  11. Generally agreed. I have to think Lind or Moss could be signed for 1-2 million, a bit more than the 550k that Aguilar or Choi would get...but hardly a noticeable difference to any team, especially the yankees. I feel like they will be announcing an Adam Lind signing any day, that would make a ton of sense for them. They'll definitely target a LH bat.
  12. 94-68 Playoffs - Yes Lose in the world series All stars - Yelich, Arcia, Hader Offensive POY - Yelich Pitcher of the year - Hader for RP, Anderson for SP Biggest surprise - Villar Biggest disappointment - Pina
  13. Kodi posted a 5.98 ERA starting games and a 2.31 in relief last year. His relief stints were generally 3-6 inning stints, not all that much different from his starts. I wonder if he feels more comfortable coming in in relief.
  14. I think Medeiros breaks out in a big way this year, possibly even leapfrogs into the Burnes/Woodruff/Ortiz/Peralta. Let's not forget he's still only 21, about the same age as Peralta and significantly younger than the other 3 guys. I also think Gatewood has a good year in AA/AAA, I tend to be high on the prospects who put in the jimmy nelson-esque effort and Gatewood is one of them.
  15. I really don't think Gallardo in the rotation is even remotely realistic. There's a reasonable chance he winds up the long relief option, but I'm not convinced he's shown more than Hoover. We'll find out more about those last 1-2 rotation spots later this morning I'm sure, pending those MRI results. Unless Miley's injury is very serious, we'll add him to the 40 man and throw him on the 10 day DL. Then one of Suter/Guerra/Woodruff will get the 5th rotation spot...probably Suter even though he's much better suited for long relief. If I had my way, I'd open with Woodruff in the rotation and Suter in long relief...Williams also gets a spot because he's crazy good for AAA.
  16. What are all your thoughts on the timing of when cuts will start happening. I would think they'll only take maybe 32-33 guys to Houston, of which at least 2-3 will be guys with no show of making the team(Wren, Orf, AAAA pitcher). So most of their decisions have to come probably by Sunday right?
  17. I don't think there's any chance Holland signs a bargain contract. As a reliever, it's much easier to justify sitting out until a significant need arises. Look at the prices in prospects teams paid for high end relievers the last couple years, a team could easily justify doing a 2 or 3 year deal with the first year being at an abbreviated cost sometime in June or July.
  18. To those of you stating adding Cobb would add much needed depth, do any of you realize how much depth we have? Assuming Miley makes the team, our 5-7 consist of Guerra, Woodruff, Suter in some order with Wilkerson as the 8. How many teams have a better 6-8 SP than we project to have? I'd bet all 4 of those guys are better than the 6th best starter on most teams. At some point between May and July, we are likely to get additional reinforcements of Nelson, Burnes, Peralta, and/or Ortiz. Not all of them, but of 4 darts you have to figure at least 1-2 would be ready if needed at the big league level. Plus, we have plenty of ammo to make a move at the deadline. If you thought Cobb would be a high end starter for the next 2-3 years posting low 3s ERA, then you have a legitimate gripe. Doesn't necessarily mean you're right, but that's the type of guy we could use. If you wanted Cobb as a depth move to slot in after Davies as our number 3 and move guys like Woodruff, Guerra, Suter, etc down 1 peg, that's an absolutely terrible reason to want Cobb.
  19. Easy there. Regardless of what side of the Cobb signing people are on, there's no need to call names. I'll add that I'm not entirely certain he was pro-cobb. He just made an assumption that with cobb gone, national pundits may turn their attention to us making a trade again. He's probably right about that, and probably right that a move won't happen until July.
  20. Doing nothing isn't bold, it's the easy play. Having said that, I have no problem with not getting Cobb but doing nothing with regard to the rotation was never the answer. I'm a fan too but I'm never going to accept that the back end of the rotation is anything other than horse fodder and that ain't cause I want to lose. I would argue it's very difficult not to waste resources on a b level upgrade that may not be that much better than what we have just to do something to upgrade a perceived weak spot. He's clearly trusting the brewers scouting that Cobb doesn't move the needle enough as an upgrade over what we have, despite all public sources unanimously agreeing that our rotation is a problem. We have the payroll space, we definitely could have snagged Lynn and probably gotten involved on Cobb, but he stuck with our guys for better or worse. As another poster noted, if woodruff, suter, Miley, guerra, burnes, etc are all terrible this year... cobb wouldn't have mattered anyway as that group will likely pitch a lot of innings.
  21. I would actually argue that not making a move was equally as bold as making a move for arrieta or darvish. Adding cobb or Lynn would have been a tweener type move, not bold at all. Now the question will be whether it was a smart move. I've generally disagreed with the moves and overall philosophy of this off season, but I'm doing my best to embrace them as I'm still a brewer fan and want to win.
  22. https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/976219401442807808 Ken apparently was told his numbers are off. I agree with him he's probably high. TJseven is going to lose his mind I'm pretty sure...
  23. Great point, passing a physical from that team is no small feat.
  24. Good stuff, even though the bold part made me cringe a bit...
