  1. Probably not honestly. I feel like the Dodgers are going to offer like 80% of that prospect value and eat Corbin's contract...which is just way more value. Edit - Actually it will be the Cardinals...but then they'll somehow fix Corbin and he'll pitch to a sub 3 ERA in September and October for maximum annoyance.
  2. Bruh, I would send 2 Chourio's for freaking Juan Soto. An mvp candidate for an 18 year old...c'mon man.
  3. Ehh, they don't even have to have a criteria or reason for thinking that. These guys could easily just throw teams out there for whatever reason/purpose they choose. And of 17, only 1 said the Brewers. For this type of trade, as much as i believe the Brewers farm system is a bit underrated, it's at best a fringe top 10 system in the most optimistic possible lense. More likely it would rank in the late teens. We probably could put together a competitive package, but it would seriously gut the system. Chourio, Frelick, Small, probably Mitchell, probably a fair amount more. Because the prospect cost will be so high...a team in the top 5 of systems is more likely to have the pieces to get it done and not completely deplete the system. Also a team with money could incentivize the nationals by taking Patrick Corbin's albatross and offer less in prospect value(but still a lot). Dodgers, Cardinals, Yankees are the 3 teams that make the most sense to me unfortunately based on need/resources. You can never rule out the mariners though because Dipoto still exists and he's capable of literally anything. I would be surprised if anyone else pulled it off, even the padres because i don't think they can eat Corbin's contract so it would have to be all prospect value.
  4. I think I found a fairly good breakeven point for the value of this contract not counting the options. Sean Manaea is in his last year of team control, and as a super 2 player made 23.1M over 5 seasons. I don't know if Ashby would be super 2, and generally you can expect contracts to slowly grow, but I think this is a pretty decent comp whereas if Ashby can outperform Manaea...then we got at least a decent deal. Manaea has a career 3.89 ERA and not counting 2022 has 12.4 WAR on baseball reference over 6 seasons which include COVID shortened 202 and I assume injury shortened 2019. When healthy, it seems he's roughly a 3 WAR pitcher. Of course the options add a ton of value as if he's even equal to Manaea, those are a no brainer to exercise. We can potentially get value out of the bullpen if Ashby doesn't make it as a starter, but it's hard to see getting 3 WAR and I can't see us exercising those options as a reliever unless he's Hader/Williams caliber out of the pen(which he very well could be). If you look at this exclusively on paper, this seems pretty stupid. Ashby has a 4.56 ERA career to this point and -0.5 WAR. That said, his advanced metrics are very good as has been noted above...he certainly has the stuff to be right up there with Woodruff in the rotation(Burnes is on his own level). I feel like he's just a bit more consistency/command in the zone away from a serious breakout.
  5. Frelick having a big July, I feel like he's playing his way to the lowly pirates. I certainly think Frelick would be a prime candidate as part of a trade for Reynolds. I have to imagine the only player Chourio moves for is Soto, and I don't know that completely gutting the farm system for him makes sense when it would make plugging other holes in the lineup that much more difficult. We'd still need a CF, and him and Yelich would lock down the LF/DH spots so we couldn't really rotate other players into the DH ever. Also McCutchen would pretty much never get another at bat ever again(i wouldn't be too sad about this).

  7. Sure are, I figured we'd go 0-162. Fortunately we were able to win one tonight. I can't even fathom what your tears would be like if/when the brewers have back to back losing seasons at some point in the future.
  8. This isn't the best example, but Hiura was drafted more as a contact bat and developed big time power while the contact kinda went away for some reason. But a guy who is a contact hitter now can grow/develop power. We're also in a great position where if MLB messes with the ball again, we'll have a room full of 15 hr guys starting to hit 30 hr.
  9. I suspect Eric Brown would be an under slot signing. Does anyone have a pulse on whether the other 2 guys would be under or over slot guys? If under, we might be able to entice a higher caliber player with a bigger bonus with a pick today.
  10. I hope they don't try to tamper with his swing until/unless he fails. Certainly a possibility at the higher levels, but it's hard to argue with the results and metrics he's posting currently.
  11. Right. You can say this guy has a similar profile to Turang, but he also has a similar profile to gavin lux...who is having a very solid season for the Dodgers at age 24 and can definitely still add some power to his game. I'd be pretty happy if we drafted a future gavin lux yesterday.
  12. If he doesn't get hurt and produces 900 ops or better the next 2 seasons, yeah he might overall get more than that. With that said, he's one foul ball off the kneecap from potentially costing himself and his family hundreds of millions of dollars now. While I can understand comparatively to other contracts this is a bit team friendly, for $440 million I just can't understand not smiling, taking the money, and grinding out your contract for $440 million. The Nationals will certainly be good again, their ownership is actually pretty good about spending to try and compete. And lets say he manages to get $480 million over the same time span, It'll be his great great grandkids that spend that last $40 million unless he colossally screws up in life.
  13. Crazy notion, the brewers help these players add power to their game. It's not often you get a 5 tool player at pick 27, but you can certainly help players develop and improve
  14. The floor for any player drafted today is, flames out in a ball. I would bet over half the players drafted today never play in aa. The draft is a crap shoot. If one of these players is an above average starter, we did well today.
  15. There are a fair amount of hitters doing well in the minors and I suspect we'll graduate at least one pretty soon.
  16. We all know CC doesn't think logically when it comes to Peterson. He's got a weird obsession with utility players.
  17. I'm not sure I'd want a guy that turned down 440 million. Something wrong with your head if you're turning down that money.
  18. You'd think by the second hr, it was obvious he didn't have it. Hader takes the L but shame on CC for letting him keep throwing like he did. Why even get suter up if you aren't gonna use him there? I swear this guy is getting worse by the day...
  19. Dear God CC you absolute moron. Literally threw that game in the toilet. Keep playing checkers my dawg....
  20. Anybody actually watching, is there at least activity in the bullpen please?
  21. And this is exactly I wasn't convinced he'd pitch today. I feel like dude needs the all star break badly. Get him out of there now before this game is tied
  22. This is going to be a terrifying inning. Command doesn't appear to be there. Very hittable pitches so far, at least as hittable as they come from hader
  23. After a bit of a heavy workload I'm not completely convinced he's available.
  24. A zero is a zero. I'm not sure who's available for the close. Maybe we put up 2-3 runs and don't find out...???
  25. When Gustave is pitching the 8th in a close game...the all star break can't come soon enough.....
