  1. Reeeeeally? Our bullpen is littered with low profile prospects that blossomed in relief under our watch. Payamps, Peguero, Megill, Milner, Wilson, etc. Crafting effective relievers is probably the thing the Brewers development is absolutely best at. This comment makes no sense, and seems to fit better in the 2023 and prior IGT's.
  2. The amount of hate Favre got should have made it obvious that Counsell would get flack for leaving and specifically going to the Cubs(or Cardinals). Comparing this decision by him to anything in our worlds is just completely different. People that work for Spectrum aren't going to be viewed negatively if they take more money to go work for AT&T. There aren't any Spectrum or AT&T fans. The dynamics are just completely different and not relatable. In Counsell's defense, his reasons for this decision were better than Favre's...whose decision seemed very vengeful/spiteful. That said, he still went to the enemy when he could have stayed or managed a number of other places. That action has consequences with the fans. If the money, personal, and family reasons are more valuable to him than the negative impact to his legacy in this state, fair enough I guess.
  3. I didn't really consider this. I'll take your word for his action upon hitting other players. You seem to strongly think he hit him on purpose, I seem to strongly think he most likely did not...though I personally would not say I am certain either way. I think there's enough gray area...that it isn't clear-cut enough that warrants an ejection. He didn't walk toward home plate beating his chest like the more obvious intentional actions. Ejecting him was just terrible, and led to everything else. Umpire fines aren't disclosed publicly like a player fine, but I have a friend that works at the stadium and in this case the umpire did receive a fine for his actions. Probably less so for the ejection and moreso for whatever happened with Big Pat afterward but that part is just my speculation. Regarding 5 games, for a starting pitcher 5 games is essentially a 1 game suspension. Doing 1 or 2 games for a starting pitcher, he'd just take it between starts and it would be literally meaningless. So they always do 5 games at least for a starting pitcher for that reason.
  4. I just watched the jomboy breakdown. Nowhere in there did I see Peralta stare down Siri on the hr. The next at bat I saw 4 pitches that missed the zone by a fair amount.. Slider way outside, fastball in at the knees...but not in enough to hit him, slider in the dirt, and then the fastball in that got him. Because I saw the pitches all in order, it was easy to see his left foot landed in more or less the exact same spot on each pitch. If he was throwing at Siri on purpose, his left foot would land more to the right on that pitch than the other 3 as he's aiming for a different target. For the record, I 1000 percent believe the latter incident doesn't happen if the umpire doesn't throw Peralta out...which goes back to umpires shouldn't be throwing guys out at nearly the rate they do.
  5. So Peralta is now responsible for the actions of Uribe. And mlb should double down on the stupidity of the umpires and make a bad decision even worse when his intent is not known and he's never intentionally thrown at someone before in his entire career? This is literally the worst possible argument you could make for Peralta's suspension. And now Murphy is responsible for the actions of his players from the clubhouse too?
  6. My jaw may have literally hit the floor when I saw the 5 game suspension on Peralta. I still don't believe the hbp was intentional, and there's far from definitive proof that it was indeed intentional. I would think if he intended to hit him, he would have done it sooner than the 4th pitch. I disagree on all the others. Uribe should probably be more for contact with the ump(in soccer, a player last year was suspended 8 games or 20% of the season for lightly pushing a ref...i'm not sure how an unintentional girly slap compares to a light shove), the other 2 should be less. Peralta I'm completely shocked he has any suspension at all. How many games is the ump being suspended for being complete trash?
  7. One thing that's significantly better this year is the in game threads. I had stopped participating last year, but it has been a bit more level-headed so far this year. Generally more positive. Positive vibes are a lot more enjoyable and make it more enjoyable to participate. It might be helpful to be able to stack 2-3 quotes instead of only one. That's all i've got.
  8. Murphy's post game comments give me the impression that he had a big problem with something the ump said or how he said it. "I hope they have audio of it".
  9. What a doofus. Abusing his power. What does he care, the union will protect him. What could possibly happen to him? Boone got thrown out because a fan yelled something at the ump while he stood there silently. Angel Hernandez still has a job somehow. These guys can do literally whatever they want with no consequence, and they'll continue to flex their power every time they feel the need to stroke their own ego...
  10. I don't think Siri will get 5, my guess is he'll get 2 plead down to 1. Uribe I really don't know because he contacted the ump...but your estimate seems pretty good. I also hope Murphy doesn't get fined. The ump was clearly out of line...it would be even more backwards than it already is for Murphy to get fined.
  11. Ehhh, I really just don't have a problem with anything he did...except slapping rather than punching and hitting the umpire. THAT is the problem and THAT will probably significantly increase any suspension. Throwing a slap might be 2-3 games...I'm not aware of precedent for incidentally hitting the ump...but it frankly should be at least an additional week in my opinion.
  12. You'd have a better argument if we were the Cardinals, or Brian McCann or Madison Bumgarner were pitching. McCann would have chased him down with a bat. The Brewers have no history of doing this, Peralta has no history of doing this. Peralta does have a history of poor command and missing the zone by a lot on some pitches...
  13. Absolutely this, I've never once seen Freddy throw at anybody on purpose. The Brewers have absolutely no history of throwing at guys on purpose in the last at least 15 years. Yet another example of why this is absolutely the hill I will die on. This power umpires have needs to be taken away. Nothing that happened in the 6th inning improved the quality of the product. Peguero pitching 1.2 innings that Freddy would have pitched is not good for the product or the game. I would bet my bottom dollar that more people were wearing Freddy Peralta jerseys at the game today than any reliever that's currently active on the roster...maybe all of them combined. All because the umpires want to feel important. Also, more lighthearted tidbit for the conspiracy theorists, Peralta's prop line for strikeouts was 7.5. Notice where he ended the game... I personally took the under(this worked out great for my bet), but the over was heavily favored. Maybe too many people took the over and Vegas made the call?
  14. It honestly doesn't matter if it's "how he slides". It's interference, very clear. If this is deemed a correct call by the league, we should have guys run to second base with a giant umbrella attached to their arm. Nobody will ever turn a double play on us again...
  15. Probably a coaches call whether he's still confident enough to work through it. He'll learn/develop more facing mlb pitching than AAA pitching. At this level, have to weigh that against results since at this level they actually matter. until yelich comes back there's no reason to make a change. when yelich is back...but i still lean against it
  16. The Brewers starters on the season have average 4.5, so it's probably pretty close. He'd be about to throw probably 60-65. The problem as you said if he has a bad inning.
  17. Fair point, but 4 is about all we get on average from starters not named Freddie. I don't think there's a wrong decision between letting him throw once more in AAA or calling him up now.
  18. Give the kid a shot, I mean...can't get any worse right? We've crossed the almost completely irrelevant service time manipulation threshold by now I would think...
  19. This is probably correct, but you can't just decide 10 minutes later that you wish you ejected the guy and do it for literally no reason. Baseball culture has changed a lot over the last 20-30 years. You can actually celebrate a hr without some obnoxious tool throwing at your head the next at bat. Maybe the next change can be transforming current precedent for throwing players(and managers, but I care a lot less about them) for extremely minor reasons....or really for most reasons. Players should almost never get thrown out. I'm not gonna hold my breath on anything changing. Nobody seems to think it's a problem
  20. Because it's the Yankees, I find this hilarious. But even still, umpires need their power truly nerfed and/or in general need some level of accountability for a wide variety of reasons. I mean, Angel Hernandez is still employed. You see star players get thrown out of games early for slightly less stupid reasons(you really can't top this one, he did literally nothing), and all the paying fans wanting to see said player don't get to see him because the ump can arbitrarily throw anyone out for any reason. Institute a true warning system(technical fouls, yellow/red card as examples).
  21. It doesn't make a lot of sense to say Elvis has been one of our best relievers when his ERA is fairly lucky considering a 1.45 WHIP and below 9 k/9. I looked over his batted ball detail and nothing in there leads me to think he's simply allowed a lot of bloop hits. Most hits allowed were clean. That FIP number seems illogical to me and not a fair representation of how he's done. ERA, xFIP, xERA, WAR...all seem better. He's been good(3.5 for me is good) he hasn't been great(2.5 would be great).
  22. This is what I felt like we needed to be good this year. We needed to score 7-8 runs in a fair amount of games, and have done exactly that to this point. 6 players with substantial atbats hitting over 300. I think we'll add starting pitching at the deadline if possible but only if the offense justifies it. The rotation being merely below average has surpassed my expectations(Rea pitching out of his mind, Peralta being even better than the high bar we've set for him...helped a lot), especially considering we've had 8 guys start games already due to injury and Hall/Ashby have been bad in their first few starts. I see the numbers above, but that doesn't account for the fact that we have the lowest innings pitched per start in the majors. 94 innings in 20 starts is quite bad, and it going to cause problems for the bullpen long term. I know people are high on coaching but I would grade it a B- at best, with it going down to a C or worse if Turang sits against lefty starters(we haven't faced many yet). All these wins now do us no good if we have 3-4 of our better relievers that are either hurt or ineffective by the end of the season due to overuse. Murphy is proving to be more Maddon than Counsell so far, in part by necessity because most of the rotation can't seem to get through 5 innings without getting smacked. Still, quite a bit to like on offense. I'm pleasantly surprised most relievers seem to have picked up right where they left off. I figured at least one of two of the guys that were good last year wouldn't be good this year...just the nature of relief pitching and none of these guys were williams/hader type prospects. One could easily squint and see a July and forward team with Peralta/Rea/Miley/vet SP/vet SP potentially winning 92-95 games if this keeps up(Hall/Ashby to relief down the stretch).
  23. They see a bunch of big names that used to be good, that to this point look sluggish and mediocre. Projection systems really have a tough time with aging stars and young players. Also worth noting, 4 of their 16 games played have been against the dodgers.
