  1. Suzuki is catching, means Grisham and Hiura shoudl be looking to run. Maybe Cain if he's feeling up to it. Also maybe Braun/Thames if he looks particularly slow tomorrow.
  2. I've been reading through both the Brewers beat writers and Nationals beat writers just now. There seems to be a wildly different feel in each clubhouse. The Brewers generally seem more loose and to be having more fun. Nationals generally seem a lot more tense, seem to be feeling a lot more pressure, all the talk is around Scherzer. I admittedly didn't spend a ton of time on it, I think I like the atmosphere in the Brewers clubhouse moreso than the Nats if that is true.
  3. Black really shouldn't pitch at all unless it goes to extras. Black is probably only ahead of our emergency long relief guy(Nelson/Anderson) and maybe Freddy. He's behind Woodruff/Lyles/Suter/Pomeranz/Hader/Jackson/Guerra. Probably equivalent to Claudio but would only pitch to RH hitters.
  4. The Brewers were 20-7 in September, with 135 runs scored against 89 runs allowed. Houston was virtually tied with us for the best Sept record at 19-6...and their schedule strength was pretty similar to ours, arguably easier in fact. The Brewers certainly aren't playing like the worst team in the playoffs.
  5. I've read that Corbin is available out of the bullpen if needed. That's part of why I think Austin over Shaw. We'll have Spang/Gamel available off the bench already. I think I'd rather have Austin PH in the 8th inning against Corbin/Doolittle over Perez. There really isn't a wrong answer though. I'll add, I think the Brewers will be in a fantastic place if either Doolittle or Hudson pitches tomorrow(that or losing by 8 runs and completely toast). Washington has to be thinking Scherzer for at least 5 with Corbin/Stras finishing if the game is close. Even if Corbin is just a decoy, they could easily do 6 and 3 or 5 and 4 with their 2 horses. Both are better options than Hudson/Doolittle.
  6. Just a reminder that the Brewers kinda punted on the game yesterday. They pulled all their good players when the Cardinals got a big lead and realized this game certainly wouldn't matter. I would bet the house that if we used our top relievers yesterday, we win that game. Friday was a stinker(we were overdue for one), Saturday we lose in large part due to a couple Colorado-only HR. Scherzer also hasn't been excessively sharp over his last few outings. 17 earned runs and 6 HR in 5 September outings. He's also pretty stubborn about wanting to stay in the game, so it's not like Martinez is going to be able to easily pull him if he allows a couple runs over in the first 3-4 innings. I'm well aware one could easily poke holes and put seeds of doubt into all the reasons for optimism I listed above. Main point is there is plenty of legit reason for optimism. Also it's one game. The very worst team in baseball would probably win 3 of 10 in a best on best game against the Nationals. I would put us somewhere between 42 and 45 percent chance to win as it stands now. Cross our fingers and hope for the best.
  7. As for the Brewers WC roster I'm guessing. Positional - Grandal, Pina, Thames, Hiura, Arcia, Moose, Spang, Perez, Shaw/Austin, Grisham, Gamel, Braun, Cain, Taylor Pitchers - Woodruff, Suter, Lyles, Pomeranz, Hader, Jackson, Claudio, Guerra, Freddy, Black, Anderson. Really I think they try to get this game done with the first 5 pitchers on the list. Anderson is here as the last arm available in case it goes to extras. I could see either Lyles or Woodruff starting. It might be smart to stagger and have Suter pitch between Lyles and Woodruff so they can't simply stack LH hitters and switch to stacking RH hitters for later innings against Suter/Pomeranz/Hader. Any pitchers used beyond the top 5 will be very limited amount of batters and very matchup based. Claudio would probably face only one lefty(more than one if they happen to be stacked, but definitely never a RH hitter), Jackson/Freddy/Black would be primarily against RH batters. Guerra might get a full inning. I would do a lineup of... Grisham Grandal Braun Moose Hiura Thames Cain Arcia P I expect they'll stick with Moose hitting 3rd and go Hiura/Thames/Braun behind. It would definitely be better to stagger RH and LH along with sliding Braun up with the way he's been hitting though.
  8. This is a good read and pretty fair. Im not so sure it's fair to say nats have a big advantage at 3b and lf...a decent advantage probably but it's somewhat close. I also think hiura won't at all be impacted by the moment. https://www.mlb.com/news/brewers-nationals-position-by-position
  9. Seconded. I really don't understand this philosophy. Is this what the cool kids are doing or something?
  10. Those numbers are a bit demoralizing, but let's note scherzer hasn't seen hiura or grisham. Safe to assume both will be starting tuesday.
  11. The brewers have a pretty darn good lineup if they can get healthy. Not including yelich, it's a pretty strong group. And we have enough quality pitchers we can throw out to match up with the nats. Let's also remember their bullpen isn't super strong. Unless they go a bit overboard and piggyback strasburg and scherzer... we have a chance if we can keep runs off the board and get to the bullpen.
  12. I kinda think we don't pitch hader tonight no matter what. I think it makes sense to give him some rest whether we are playing tomorrow or tuesday so he can pitch multiple innings in one of those games.
  13. Think the cubs may want to give maddon a win on his final game as manager? One can hope
  14. No one did, if you again read the thing, but keep going with this. For real, nobody expects him to press key injured players into action.
  15. We are also rooting for the blue jays, would be better if they lose and keep the Indians in it an extra game. At this point, I'm hoping they have to play 2 games hard before they get mathematically eliminated.
  16. Does any SSH have the info for how much the assigned loge infield tickets are for WC and DS? I can't seem to find it. I found that tix were 90 apiece at general public rates but can't find the discounted rates i paid
  17. I have no issue with him playing whoever he chooses to play, but these comments are hilarious. What a baby...
  18. I see this a lot, but it actually has little to do with expanded roster. In fact, he actually crunches playing time. Grandal catching every day, no rest for any of the starters really. Uses the same, top 7 or 8 relievers over and over. Hes not using 35-38 guys, he's using 25. And really, 20 as much as humanly possible. September has been about the 3 pitching acquisitions, Suter and Hiura coming back, and the team as a whole putting their game face on, and that part is definitely due to CC. Lyles, anderson, davies, houser, gg, woodruff, suter, jackson, guerra, black, claudio, pomeranz, hader, peralta, albers. That's 15. All pitching a lot in september in critical spots. Also using faria and Nelson in mopup. It's hard to argue that 33-34 guys aren't getting significant use. CC got backed into a corner a bit with pina getting hurt. All the starters are pitching shorter outings on similar rest which is obviously much less taxing on their arms. Those acquisitions, suter, woodruff, hiura, grisham, braun, etc...full team effort pushed us to postseason baseball. At the end of the day, its really tough to argue CCs management wasn't one of many significant contributing factors to our september success
  19. I did pretty well on tickets last year as well, but I'm much less optimistic for this year. The games all being weekday and no possibility of cubs crushes the chances to make significant money. I think if i bought 8 tickets to wildcard and 4 each to games 3 and 4 at market rate, i should be lucky to average a $10/ticket profit...all with a ton of risk that things don't break perfectly. My playoff strip is in a much more reasonable location this year, so I'm only buying extras as a legit passthru to friends that 100% plan to attend... that's my stance through NLDS and that's as far ahead as I'm willing to think
  20. I just saw this too. Reminder to all that the Brewers don't like it when you sell your seats on stubhub. Don't do it, or risk not having presale access for potential NLCS or WS tickets...
  21. The Cubs have been better than us since that date in all pitching categories, and are 5-4 in that stretch.
  22. It is seriously amazing how badly Theo destroyed what should have been a dynasty. We basically should have had a yearly NLCS of Dodgers vs Cubs for a significant stretch, over 8 years...it probably should have been that about 6 times. The Dodgers were there, but where were the Cubs? The Cubs should probably take notes from the Dodgers, and use more of their gobs of money on talent evaluation/development rather than past player performance.
