  1. If he's "one of the best in the business" then the business is in trouble. Somebody please explain to him that saying "walked him on four straight" is a redundancy that no professional should use. Uecker makes the same mistake but he's an ex-player. Umm...it's not redundancy. To clarify, a batter can be walked on one ball (the fourth ball in an at bat), two balls in a row totaling four in an at bat, three balls in a row totaling four in an at bat OR...you guessed it, four straight. I sure hope you're not one of the best posters in the business or the message board business is in trouble.
  2. What did Sardinas do to diminish his top-100 prospect status other than be just-ok at the MLB level in a small sample size? He's only 21. I wouldn't trade Sardinas for a non-top-100 prospect, no way. Exactly. Some people on this forum make the most reckless comments at times just to see if they stick.
  3. A "possible report" and "might be adding"? Is this a serious post?
  4. At what point do you worry about overworking the kid? He seems to be leaking oil the past few weeks.
  5. Or maybe, just maybe, guys that watch and evaluate these guys for a living believe he's just a guy and can't play at the major league level. Would that be possible? Maybe it's a me problem, but I don't see anybody banging the door down to trade for Rogers thinking he just needs a "fair shot."
  6. The Segura hate continues to baffle me. If Segura's name was Logan Schafer this wouldn't even be fathomable. Segura is a 24 year old former all star coming off a down year/year and a half. There is time to improve and those same people who advocate this nonsense would criticize and conveniently forget about their posts if Segura went on to be a player elsewhere. The age and controllability alone has been of major appeal on this site for years, particularly with internal prospects. Schafer is a never was, total failure of a big leaguer who many here continue to advocate as a viable piece and potential starter if Gomez were to be traded. If only Jean was signed/drafted by the Brewers. I'm convinced that's what people get hot and horny about because they've followed those prospects for so long they hold on to hope guys like Logan can "recapture" the magic they had at the minor league level. I've never understood that mentality. Give the talented, top 100 kids time and trade high if you're going to trade. Do we really want to be the Twins trading young talent at an all time low before they hit their stride?
  7. I would think a team like the Yankees or someone with some money would be happy to have one of the best 2B in the game for around $12-$14 mil per season through 2017 It's not 2011 anymore. I think this quote sums up the small market mentality better than any I've ever seen. Frankly, the Yanks don't care as they have more money than God.
  8. Let the record show that I am not in favor of a Lucroy extension as I believe the catching and pitching prospects you could get in return could significantly trump his early to mid 30's production, but let's ask ourselves something. With Doug being close to the end, is either an extension or trade something that's even on his radar? Either way, if it's not, we have a problem.
  9. As others have pointed out relative to Harper's attitude, there usually is more to a trade than just the black and white. While you seem to disagree, how often do we hear the phrase "addition by subtraction" bandied about? While I think the Nats would shoot a bit higher, I don't think there'd be any giggling going on behind the scenes.
  10. Regardless, the point would be not to spend any money in 2015 and save it for 2016 if I trade away Gomez. If one of the "untested" 1B performs in 2015 and earns the 2016 job, great. If not, the Brewers would have to plan to spend real money on it in 2016. As someone that has been privy to the books of a few sports franchises, it never ceases to amaze me at how "business dumb" the fanatics on here tend to be. The casual fanbase (including many "season seat holders"), TV money, and the revenue sharing make up the majority of the revenue the Brewers bring in. Have you thought about the message it would send to the casual fan (short attention spans by nature) if they started shipping proven talent for prospects? It would also likely prompt media outlets in this market and nationally to rail on the team because they are agenda driven and need something to talk/write about, bring out the "same old Brewers" mantra and ultimately cost them huge at the gate in the short and long run. There would be no "savings." Doug and Mark, through their own short sightedness, have put this team at the point of no return as a franchise. I'm not saying I disagree with blowing it up because I don't, but you simply have to consider the impact that would have on revenue in the long run regardless of what you "save" by moving salaries. You'd need to win the casual fans back, no small task in a dwindling sport like baseball (I don't care about the over the top, glass is half full stuff Bud puts out about attendance to pad his legacy), and I believe a team like the Brewers would really have a hard time recovering from that (see Cincinnati, Baltimore, Kansas City attendance). Mark is in a tough spot and he knows it, hence his tendency to "go for it" every chance he gets. Start playing inferior talent like Logan Schafer every day and that generation of fans you spent the better part of 10 years gaining may just check out for good as they have elsewhere. There are other entertainment options available everywhere and many of them don't require basically a 5 hour time commitment and some late, workweek nights to attend. IMO, the Brewers just don't have the cache, market size or history to pull the blow it up methodology off at the start of any season at this point.
  11. This is where you lost all credibility. AAAA guy at best and has proven incapable of being even a 5th outfielder. If the goal is to pay nothing for CF, not the worst idea although you'll get negative WAR productivity. He's just not good at baseball. Much better and likely cheap options on the late off season, FA scrum.
  12. Doug Melvin. Is that a pretty good source?
  13. I know it's popular to bag on Braun and his thumb injury as certainly caused him to be less-than-Braun-like this year, but really? If he were to have gotten a base hit in extra innings, you'd mock him for being "anti-clutch?" Like a guy sucks if he can't dial up a homer on demand? +1000. League average the last I checked is a .700 OPS. Braun, in a down year, is around .800. What a bum. Some would probably say he's been struggling for a month or better. Just an awful hitter.
  14. No way the Crew doesn't win this game. No freaking chance.
  15. Hyperbole??? He's had 2 starts in his last 10 that don't qualify as quality starts. Not sure about you, but I'll take that ratio all day long over a season of starts from my #4 starter.
  16. Feels like we're playing fantasy baseball again in the transaction rumors thread. Assuming Doug is back, does anyone really believe he's not going to give a guy he tried to lock up long term as recently as 5 months ago another chance next year? And since when is this fanbase so willing to give up on a 24 year old, former all star before he hits his prime? Part of me wonders if that would be the case had he come up through the Brewer system. As a point of reference, there are still people talking here from time to time about Logan Schafer, a never was, being able to OPS .750 in the major leagues if given a starting job. Give me a break.
  17. I know I read somewhere that Counsell has gotten consideration elsewhere for a GM post and was highly thought of already. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get an opportunity elsewhere if not here in the next couple years. On a side note, the Cubs certainly have some nice prospects and have drafted extremely well of late. Assuming they start moving up the standings, let's see if they're able to continue their momentum on the draft front picking closer to the bottom of the 1st round as opposed to the very top.
  18. The Rockies are kind of in that dangerous gray area where their team isn't so bad that they need to tear it up and rebuild, but not so good they can really make some big time moves to contend next season either. Very true, but boy oh boy, any regression from an aging player like Morneau next year and I'm not sure if I'd be happy if I was a fan of theirs about turning down any sort of pitching assuming that is what was offered by Melvin.
  19. This and if his arm can't hold up throwing 15-20 pitches three days a week, how would it hold up throwing 100 or more twice a week some weeks in a starting role?
  20. Even if this comment wasn't completely grounded in hyperbole, for a franchise like the Brewers, wouldn't this be the best approach? In theory, at that age, the player is still ascending and you get all of his peak years under team control. I'd much rather take that than rush someone and sacrifice production at a position for a few years as a result.
  21. Maybe, but nearly all of those great players fell onto top 100 prospect lists at one time. Haniger doesn't fit that description and has never been in the discussion.
  22. That would mean the Crew is in the World Series. I'd gladly take my chances.
  23. Bingo. I've long said that your 4th OF and your 5th IF need to be guys with whom you're comfortable as long-stretch everyday starters. That makes for solid depth when everyone's healthy and NOT so much trouble when someone gets hurt. I've liked Schafer for 5 years or more, and he's still an excellent defender w/ good speed, but Parra's a significant upgrade over him on lots of levels including defense. He is NOT a significant upgrade over Schafer defensively. Again; Parra -.3 WAR Schafer -.2 WAR Schafer has played more, and Parra is a better bat. And frankly, if I was to look at this team and what it needed, a legitimate ace is at the very top of that list and then a very good right handed reliever is 2nd. But it's a matter of cost. Like Parra but not at the cost given how he's performed in a hitter friendly park this year. I don't claim to be a scout but Logan Schafer has never passed the eye test for me as a major league baseball player, nor has he done anything to give anyone hope that he could one day be just that. This seems to be another case of a guy coming up through our system who posters fall in love with during the journey through the ranks, and subsequently overvalue and make excuses for. Fits right in the mold of Taylor Green. I don't care if you give them 1000 at bats up here, they're just not good at the game of big league baseball.
