  1. Another vintage condescending comment. I remember the last time you chided me about what you thought was a clear strike the Ump scorecard the next day didn’t show it as a missed call. On these the game tracker on the MLB site showed the ball barely touching the line of the strike zone, but the 3-0 pitch was significantly wide of it.
  2. Those 2:pitches were not clearly strikes. The 3-0 pitch was clearly a ball.
  3. Only a gift strike on the 3-0 pitch saved Burnes from another leadoff walk.
  4. Tellez has not done much over the last month or so, even with sitting against a lot of the lefties.
  5. Hurt his knee running into the tarp after a foul popup.
  6. Two leadoff walks and both score. Burnes is a shell of the 2021 version.
  7. Burnes is making it hard for himself with the leadoff walks. That should do it for Ruf for tonight.
  8. Seems a little odd to have the infield in with a 2 run lead. Says something about whether Counsell expects any more runs.
  9. To hear the Brewers TV announcers tell it, it’s just bad luck.
  10. Considering how few baserunners they get the Brewers seem to hit into a lot of DPs. ETA, I just looked it up on Baseball Reference and the Brewers have the second worst GIDP% in MLB. They have hit into DP’s in 13.1% of their DP opportunities. Only the Marlins are worse.
  11. He might be good at getting K’s but I’d rather have a pitcher prevent runs.
  12. Here is an article that discusses the old tradition of the holiday doubleheader. https://www.vintagedetroit.com/baseball-played-doubleheaders-july-4th/
  13. You have to remember that “when I was growing up” goes back to the late 50’s and predates the Brewers by over a decade. Doubleheaders were much more common then, and seemed to be as much the norm as the exception on Sundays. We attended a lot of Braves doubleheaders on Sundays. Gradually over the years the number of doubleheaders dwindled to the point that scheduled doubleheaders went the route of double features at the movies. Maybe my recollection is fuzzy, but in those days I also recall a lot of holiday doubleheaders. One specific memory is going to the original Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, July 4, 1961 for a DH between the Yankees and Tigers, who were locked in a tight battle for first place. The place was absolutely packed with a crowd of over 70,000 as the teams split the pair and Roger Maris hit one of his 61 HR. I looked up the date on Baseball Reference and on that Tuesday 10 of the 18 major league teams played in doubleheaders and the other 8 played in single games. That was pretty obviously a holiday phenomenon. On Wednesday, July 4, 1962, the 20 major league teams played 8 doubleheaders. On Memorial Day, 1961, which was on a Tuesday, there were 6 doubleheaders. I didn’t look up any more dates, but there clearly is evidence that holiday doubleheaders were a thing in those days, even on midweek days.
  14. My guess is that this is related to Memorial Day. The Royals-Cardinals series is one of those home and home rivalry series which are usually two games each. Like the Brewers- Twins games this year, those two game series are often on Tuesday and Wednesday with off days on either side. Maybe the Cardinals preferred a home game on Memorial Day and had the series set there.
  15. I was around to see a lot of that series on TV. The Yankees won their games 16-3, 10-0, and 12-0, and their losses were 6-4, 3-2, 5-2, and 10-9. We were Yankees (and Braves) fans in those days because my Dad was a native New Yorker and Yankees fan. I remember rushing home for lunch as a third grader to catch a couple of innings of Game 7 on TV.
  16. They just said on the telecast it was 1992 with no walks and no strikeouts.
  17. I’m reminded that one of the great games of all time, Game 7 of the 1960 World Series won by the Pirates 10-9 on Mazeroski’s walkoff HR, had no strikeouts by either team. A different era.
  18. We definitely won’t ever see it from an opponent’s pitcher.
  19. I’ll be looking for a defensive replacement in the bottom of this inning. Like Taylor to right and Anderson to 3rd. Two improvements for the price of one.
  20. One of my many unpopular opinions is that injuries have not played a significant role in the woes of the Brewers offense. . I have always thought that their biggest problem is the lack of true impact hitters, and having Urias and Mitchell wouldn’t have that much of an effect. In fact, before his brief spurt before he got injured, some posters who are generally bullish on the rookies and minor leaguers were advocating sending Mitchell back down because he was striking out too much. I don’t think many people would have bet on him maintaining an OPS in the high 700s through a few hundred more plate appearances, even if he was strictly platooned If you look at a list of the top hitters in MLB in terms of OPS+ you have to drop down pretty far before you come across any Brewers hitters. Some teams have three or four before the Brewers have two, and their best hitters are substantially more productive than the Brewers best (Tellez), who is effectively platooned.
  21. 2 runs on 4 hits. Another impressive display.
  22. The Reds are pounding on the Red Sox for their fourth straight win. They could have a chance to take over first place this weekend.
  23. With the Fox regional telecasts on Saturdays, there are several games that start at 3:10 PM. The Brewers have 4 of them this year, including last Saturday.
  24. Teams can, and do, hold Memorial Day/weekend observances on Saturday and Sunday before the actual holiday. . There are also many other places to observe the holiday I can fly a flag on my house whether there is a ball game or not. Sorry that you think that my opinion is “stupid s**t, but I don’t think it’s a big deal, much less a disgrace.
  25. With the Brewers at 10-15 for the month with 2 games left, it looks like even the most pessimistic predictions might prove to be too optimistic.
