  1. Is there any other team where the 3 and 4 hitters are NOT the guys you want to see up in a big situation?
  2. I hate bunting, but Yelich pushing one toward third might be a good play here.
  3. Have a chance to steal another win in the series if Hader can stay perfect and the offense can scratch across another run.
  4. Because this is supposed to be a game thread I’m going to save my general comments about the team until tomorrow.
  5. Renfroe said early in the week that he would be ready and he was on the field hitting and doing some running in the outfield. But apparently there are still issues.
  6. Is Renfroe ready? Yesterday when Counsell said the plan was to activate Adames on Tuesday, and that Urias wouldn’t be going on the IL(at least right now), he didn’t mention Renfroe. Does he still need a few more weeks?
  7. Wong 2B Taylor CF Yelich LF McCutchen RF Tellez 1B Hiura DH Peterson 3B Caratini C Reyes SS Doesn’t seem quite as bad as yesterday, but still some pretty big holes in the lineup with Adames, Renfroe, Urias, and Narvaez all out. Not expecting much from the offense again today and, if Lauer can’t regain his command, it doesn’t figure to be a happy day. Might be seeing Williams and Hader today regardless of the score. The off day tomorrow might be a good day to discuss the state of the team. I’d like to think the last week is purely a reflection of the injuries and the difficult schedule of the last few weeks. But, there may also have been some longer term problems exposed that will have to be addressed for the team to win the division, much less challenge for one of the top two playoff spots.
  8. Hiura’s OPS seems inflated by having 5 HR in 88 plate appearances. I doubt if he could maintain a pace like that with regular playing time. But his 41 Ks in those 88 appearances looks like a continuation of his problems form 2020 and 21.
  9. Was anything said in the broadcast or after the game about Yelich being completely unavailable today? If he was available at all, not sending him up to hit for Cain in the 8th inning with two men on base was, IMHO, grossly negligent. As bad as Yelich has been, the chances that he might step into one for a 3 run HR, or knock one into the gap for 2 RBI is infinitely more likely than Cain doing the same thing. He could then have stood in LF for the 9th inning. The way he’s looked at the plate since the cycle I have been wondering if Yelich has some kind of injury that’s going to land him on the IL when Renfroe comes back.
  10. Note some of the comments to the article. If I really wanted to nitpick the title I would say it should have said “the Brewers are in good position” because they are definitely not in “great shape” right now.
  11. Also, I am not a doctor or trainer, but at what point is there virtually no additional advantage to holding a player out for an additional 4 days or more. In my 30-40 years of playing sports that involving running and lateral movements (mainly basketball and baseball/softball) I had my share of turned ankles and pulled muscles. Without daily assistance from a trainer and doctor or access to the best treatments I had to decide when I could play again and at some point you just have to start up. After all, guys can get hurt out of the blue with no warning. Using Adames as an example, if he’s played a few rehab games and has been doing infield work for almost two weeks, will his risk of reinjury (or a new injury) be that much lower on Tuesday than it would have been yesterday? I could say something similar about Renfroe, though hamstrings were always more difficult for me than ankle sprains. Once you’ve pulled one the risk of another one is always there. In the meantime, the Brewers are coming close to forfeiting games waiting for these guys to be completely healthy.
  12. Some times baseball produces unpredictable results. Today wasn’t one of those days. Another dreary day at the ballpark for holders of the Weekend 10 Pack. The only bright spot today was that Ashby works quickly so there was only about 2 1/2 hours of dull play before we left after the 8th inning.
  13. The injury situation is bad, but IMHO it also exposes the weakness and lack of depth in the regular lineup without the injuries. Adames, Renfroe, and Urias are solid hitters, but not exactly superstar level. When they are in the lineup they are accompanied by some pretty weak links. The Giants have had a lot of injuries to their position players, but they are still second in the league in scoring. It’s apparent that the Brewers are going to use at least the Monday off day to give Adames and Renfroe those extra days. Any game they get in this series will be a bonus, and they were lucky that Rogers couldn’t find the plate in the 9th inning on Thursday.
  14. I hope the Padres don’t have an advantage because they just faced Ashby last week. They didn’t have much success but, unlike the Brewers with Gore, they have seen his stuff.
  15. Today’s game is on the weekend 10 Pack. In addition to the high number of clunkers that the Weekend Pack has featured the last two seasons (including the recent 8-2 loss to the Nats) it’s hard to get excited about a game with the Brewers facing a dominating LHP with a lineup that will probably be without 3 of its 4 competent right handed hitters. Hooefully this will be one of those baseball games that defies logic, but where are the runs going to come from with a lineup looking something like this against Gore: McCutchen DH Hiura 1B Yelich LF Taylor RF Peterson 3B Cain CF Wong 2B Reyes SS Jackson C There’s no order that you can put those hitters to make it significantly better. Maybe Urias will be able to play and one of the players on IL will be activated.
  16. It is my opinion that the Brewers aren’t going to win tonight. Last night’s miracle looks very big now with a tough lefty going in a game that’s on the Weekend 10 pack.
  17. The game cast on the mlb site says Urias left with injured hand.
  18. Now Urias is out? This is getting pretty ridiculous.
  19. It is my opinion that the Brewers defense has left something to be desired lately.
  20. Woodruff is on the mend, but it probably is a good idea to treat Peralta like he’s done for the season. When I hear “out for a significant time” and “expect him back some time this year” but with no time estimate, it sounds to me like he won’t be back until September at the earliest, and that’s with no setbacks. Anything before that would be a pleasant surprise/bonus.
