  1. I’ll take the run but I thought he had a replay of last night.
  2. At this point I doubt if the Brewers will have any All Star position players unless there are a lot of dropouts. Between Burnes, Lauer, and Hader the Brewers have plenty of candidates.
  3. Looks safe to me but I gave up trying predict replays long ago.
  4. That was a terrible miss, but Narvaez standing up getting ready for a throw might have blocked the ump’s view of the pitch.
  5. When you put it in all caps it does sound like you were serious.
  6. Ashby did what was needed but it looks like it might not be good enough.
  7. I think it’s more than an exaggeration to say that the umpire was trying to get Ashby hurt. On the Bally coverage they didn’t show where the 2-2 pitch went. They just cut back to the picture as Narvaez was catching it so I don’t know if that was a bad call or not.
  8. What are you talking about? The batter calling for the late time out.
  9. That was close to a bobble that wasn’t on the exchange but throwing before catching.
  10. Probably just more going with the veteran than a current stat.
  11. If the Brewers fall behind early this could turn into a day where someone in the bullpen will be asked to "take one for the team". With the heavy bullpen usage the last few days, and Hader's return for the Cardinal series in question, I can't see Counsell wanting to use too many relievers trying to salvage a game if the Brewers are 4 or 5 runs behind in the middle innings. Really need 5 solid innings from Ashby and then see where they are.
  12. He has generally been getting the job done but the vast majority of his appearances have been in low leverage situations, either with the team behind (often way behind) or comfortably ahead. His current WHIP of 1.08 is significantly below his career WHIP and his WHIP with the Brewers last year. He hasn’t done enough to inspire confidence in higher leverage situations. I’m just as happy to wake up in the morning with a Brewers win than to stay up until midnight to sit through those stressful innings.
  13. Time to go to bed. If the Brewers end up losing I don’t need to stay up to see it. At least this way I’ll go to sleep with a good feeling.
  14. The next drinking game that will get people drunk is taking one whenever Wong fails to make a play be could have, if not should have, made. He’s looked like Rickie Weeks this season.
  15. A lot of overmatched batters in the lineup tonight.
  16. The Brewers are going to need a good, long start from Burnes and/or a lot of runs (not exactly that lineup for that) to have a chance to win this one. With Hader out and the number of pitches thrown out of the bullpen last night the late inning options aren’t going to be great.
  17. There has been a lot of conversation on this site as to whether the Brewers record has been helped by a favorable early schedule. This article from the MLB site discusses that issue MLB teams with deceiving records
  18. I don’t regret going to bed with the score 2-1 after the fifth inning. After the Brewers failed to score with the bases loaded and nobody out in the third, and knowing Hader wouldn’t be available to close, the Brewers prospects didn’t look too good at that point. Getting up and getting the swift blow to the heart that the Brewers did lose was less painful than sitting through two more hours of frustration. If I had seen the top of the tenth I would have been so POd I probably would have had trouble sleeping. What was always going to be the Brewers toughest stretch of games of the season has suddenly gotten much more difficult and as much a matter of survival as anything. If the Brewers are still in first place in the division at the end of June it will be a pretty significant accomplishment.
  19. I know from past exchanges with you, including some in the past under your previous screen name, that this is heading down a rat hole. So, I’ll bow out.
  20. Maybe it would be a good idea not to feel obligated to respond every time somebody makes a post that doesn’t agree with your outlook.
  21. You don’t seem to be too tolerant of people who don’t share your opinions and evaluations. Rather than telling me I don’t understand or appreciate something, better to just accept that we disagree. The Brewers have their question marks too, and if their leg up is dependent on having no significant injuries all season, it isn’t really a leg up. Every team is going to have injuries. For all of their flaws I believe the Cardinals have scored more runs and allowed fewer than the Brewers so far. So, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to consider them to be right in the Brewers class.
  22. Of course, how far runners go out of the straight line between the bases when they are rounding a base to advance to the next one is totally irrelevant. The rules only prohibit running out of the baseline to avoid a tag. From our seats which look pretty much straight down the first base line that looked like a call that could have gone either way.
  23. The Cardinals have already added two top prospects to their lineup. I don’t think they are relying very heavily on Molina. I would take their offense over the Brewers offense. Their “flaw” is in their pitching which may have taken a hit today with Matz leaving in the first inning. But if they can shore that up at all they should be right there with the Brewers all season. I said when the Brewers went on the road after sweeping the Reds that we were going to learn a lot about the Brewers between then and late June after they complete the road heavy part of their schedule that includes a much higher number of games against other playoff contenders (Padres, Cardinals, Mets, Phillies, and Blue Jays) than they faced in the first quarter of their schedule. So far, they are 7-6 in this stretch with what might be the toughest two week stretch of the season coming up with 15 games in 14 days, with 11 of the games on the road and 11 of them against the Padres (7) and Cards (4). Losing Peralta is going to make this stretch even tougher. I think everyone understands that the Brewers are a “good” team that should be a solid playoff contender all season. But, given the schedule to date (I saw one of the projection sites call it the weakest in MLB), I think it’s more accurate to lump the Brewers with the other “good” teams than to put them in a class with the Dodgers and ahead of everyone else.
