  1. This offense can be painful to watch in these situations. Had a chance to steal a win with B team pitching and couldn’t get it done. Second time on this trip failing to score in the top of the 10th.
  2. Of course, Cain would be leading off the 10th with the runner on second. All you’re looking for is a squib grounder to the right side and he can’t even do that.
  3. Every single person here knows that. If hearing people blow off a little steam is going to upset you so much, I have never seen a sports message board that won’t upset you.
  4. This has the feel of Hendricks going 6 shutout innings and the Cubs getting double figures against the parade of minor league pitchers. Think Bettinger. Episode 3 of Obi Wan looks tempting.
  5. Just what the Brewers need, a guy with no MLB experience playing behind pitchers with no MLB experience. Adames will hopefully be back in a few days. Bringing Turang up to play behind Wong, Adames, and Urias makes no sense to me and bringing him up to play one or two games makes no sense either. I’d rather have guys like Brosseau and Peterson as the utility infielders.
  6. It’s likely going to take a lot of runs to win tonight. Maybe they can slug it out to a 10-10 tie going into the 8th inning and win a 2 inning game.
  7. Cardinals completed their sweep of the Padres with Goldschmidt extending his hitting streak to 23, Arenado hitting a HR, and newcomers Donavan and Yepez adding big hits. Tomorrow they move into Wrigley for their first meetings with the Cubs this season.
  8. Not much getaway with the Cubs at home tomorrow and the Brewers a bus ride away from home. The Cubs seem to play at night on most weeknights and in the afternoon on weekends, including Friday.
  9. Ugh. I was hoping Adames would be back for the start of the homestand but that obviously won’t be happening.
  10. And with that the Cubs equal their win total against the Brewers for all of last season.
  11. This bullpen is fried. Whoever gets the emergency start tomorrow is going to get the Alec Bettinger “take one for the team” treatment”.
  12. The Reds tonight won their first game in Fenway Park since Game 7 of the 1976 World Series. Since they left Milwaukee in early May with a record of 3-22 the Reds have gone 14-9.
  13. Looks like they’re going to have to use all of the pictures they were hoping to use tomorrow just to get through eight innings tonight.
  14. Lauer did not give the team what it needed tonight. Coming off the twin bill and with a bullpen game tomorrow the bullpen is going to have to cover at least 4 innings. Having to use Milner in a close game is never a good thing.
  15. Part of that was because McCutchen was out for about two, weeks and created another opening. Taylor didn’t really start hitting until shortly before Renfroe got hurt, so who knows if he would have gotten as many ABs as he has the last two weeks.
  16. The predicted thunderstorms are coming in later than expected but if the game continues at this pace it won’t be over until midnight.
  17. The silver lining to Renfroe’s injury is that it has given more ABs to Taylor than he might have had otherwise. So he’s now established that he should be playing almost every day until he really cools down.
  18. Lauer again doesn’t have the put away pitch. Looking like another short outing if he can’t find it. 20 pitches already and 3 rockets. Lucky to have one out.
  19. The position players on the bench are Narvaez, Peterson, and Wong. Not a lot of options, especially if he’s looking to give anyone a day off. Also, Steele’s splits show him to be much better against lefties than righties. Shouldn’t that be considered too?
  20. Will have to be that or someone called up for an emergency start, which would probably turn into a bullpen day with whoever isn’t used tonight filling the middle innings. Who did they drop after the doubleheader? If that Strzelecki guy is still on the active roster that would be my guess. With Small sent back to Nashville it looks like the plan will be to use Houser, Burnes, Ashby, and Lauer against the Padres heading into the Monday off day. If Woodruff can get off the IL with a minimum stay they might not need a sixth starter for a while.
  21. There is a significant threat of thunderstorms delaying or forcing postponement of tonight’s game. In the short term a day off wouldn’t be the worst thing for the Brewers as it would eliminate the need for an emergency starter tomorrow. I would assume they wouldn’t try to play another doubleheader tomorrow. The downside would be that the Brewers last visit to Wrigley comes in the middle of a stretch in which the Brewers have a series with the Cardinals and two with the Dodgers with no off days. Squeezing in a doubleheader there would not be ideal.
